Grapevine was one of two nanny agencies recommended to us by our hotel. Their online booking experience was easy and I found their rates more reasonable than the other nanny agency our hotel recommended. (I reached out to both and quickly compared all-in pricing.) The babysitter we were assigned, Rima, arrived on time and kept us updated on how things were going. She brought games and activities for my 7 year old daughter based on her interests, which I appreciated. The only thing that was a bit challenging is that we had to communicate with our babysitter via the Telegram app, which was new and different for me. I would have preferred WhatsApp or simple texting instead. I can't even begin to thank Grapevine for sending us two amazing babysitters. My husband and I had brought our 2 toddlers on our recent Napa trip. Having secured a reservation at the French Laundry we knew we needed to find someone to watch our kids. Let me start by saying, I am VERY careful who I entrust my kids with. After much consideration I finally reached out to Grapevine. They were so responsive. Just for good measure I called several hotels. Even the ones we aren't staying at to see what agency they would recommend. Again, crazy mom over here. Grapevine got stellar reviews from all the hotels I called. The day of the reservation, our babysitters Ashly and Rima came on time. Having only our trusted nanny and teachers around my kids, I explained to my oldest that we are meeting his teachers for the day. Hoping to ease him with the idea of strangers in our hotel. To my surprise, both Ashly and Rima ARE ACTUALLY TEACHERS. They are preschool teachers who really know kids. They came with so many toys and gifts for my kids. Needless to say, my children took to them right away. They fed, played and put our kids to bed (a feat that even in our house is hard to do daily). They sent us updates and pictures putting our minds at ease while we were away. Funnily enough, I have family members who live in the area. Ashly and I found out that she knows one of my cousins from high school (small world I know). I let my cousin know Ashly was babysitting my kids. She said something every mom would like to hear: She's great with kids! Even in high school you can tell she loves being around them. She's very caring and good natured. **Booking 1 month in advance is not good enough, and even if you don't have an assigned nanny, their policy is to charge you at LEAST $25 no matter what. ** We submitted a booking request for a nanny 1 month before the date that we needed. We were informed via email that "The confirmation with the Nannies name is emailed to you a week prior to the sitting date." When we didn't hear back 1 week before the date, we emailed grapevine agency to see if there was anybody who had been assigned the date/times. Unfortunately, even though it was 6 days before our date, there was nobody assigned. I thought, no problem, I always have a plan B. I made other arrangements and proceeded to cancel the bookings as a courtesy so that they would not keep looking. Instead of apologizing that they had not assigned us a nanny even though our request was 1 month prior to the date, they contacted us that they would charge us $25 PER Booking. I tried to point out that they were the ones who had not assigned anyone by 1 week before the date, but they insisted on charging us because it was their policy to essentially penalize customers for them NOT being able to complete their tasks. Honestly, this is no way to run a business. I don't believe in their 5 stars. They may specialize in finding nannies on a short notice, but clearly do not do well with advanced planning. In response: It seems that you "would have" done a lot of things. Bottomline is, you did not. There was no confirmed childcare for us even though we had requested 1 month ahead of time, and even 6 days before, there was no plan. To add insult to this inconvenience, you are penalizing your clientele by charging them a hefty booking fee for essentially no service delivered. read more

We used this company in February 2011 to take care of our 1-yr old for the day. Whilst the baby-sitter was great, this company Grapevine Nannies itself a complete scam. The rates were explained in a basic email (i.e. the handshake deal), with a long PDF attachment that secretly slapped on an additional 30% (I am not kidding you!) if you pay by credit card. It consists of a 10% service fee (wah?) and 20% tip. Since we paid the nanny a tip directly in cash, it is clear that this company pockets the latter on the side. Grapevine Nannies will also ask for your credit card when making the booking ... which suggest to the reasonable person that's how you will make your payment. There's no balanced reviewed for this kind of scams: one star. Putting AMEX on the case. Here's my suggestion if you need a nanny or babysitter in Napa, Sonoma or Calistoga (or anywhere in the wine country): go on CL and get multiple references. Grapevine came through, was very prompt, called us back right away and set everything up very efficiently. Would use them again. In regards to what the previous reviewer said, the PDF was very clear. Pay the babysitter directly, and the Agency charges their fee to your credit card - which is $6/hour. They were able to quickly and confidently place us with a sitter for the evening of the event with under a week's notice. Everything was smooth, despite issues with the hotel itself. Fantastic experience! My husband and I were traveling to Napa Valley with our 18 month old son and used Grapevine placement agency to arrange for a sitter two of the days. He has only even been left with a sitter who wasn't a family member twice before so I admit I was nervous. However, our sitter for both days, Natalie, was absolutely amazing. She arrived right on time, was professional, and he took to her right away which I was not expecting! He was even fast asleep when we arrived back from dinner! Not only have we not left him with a sitter many times, but he also has food allergies. As pretty new parents, we were nervous about leaving our eight month old for a couple of hours. I was invited to a wedding in Calistoga at the auberge hotel and I needed a nanny to watch my 18 month old during the wedding and the night before. I was so nervous about leaving my baby with a stranger - I had never done that before - so making the decision to hire someone was tough. But I found myself with no choice since the wedding belonged to a close friend and I had nobody to watch her. I asked the hotel who they recommended and they told me they've been using grapevine for years. I spoke with someone there who assured me she would give me a nanny with plenty of experience in order to ease my fears. And she did. I was fully prepared to have to leave the wedding and the rehearsal dinner several times to have to put out fires and calm my baby down. I even planned on coming home to put her to bed, as nobody else knows how to do it but me and my mom. But the nanny they sent exceeded my wildest expectations. Not only was the nanny experienced and wonderful with my baby, she was able to calm her down when she had a meltdown at the sight of me leaving (no small feat) and she even was able to PUT HER TO BED!! Unbelievable. I never had to leave the wedding or the event the night before. I didn't even have to worry about coming home early. I was able to fully relax and have fun. The nanny was responsive in answering my calls/texts and she reassured me at every juncture. She was also self sufficient and never felt the need to interrupt my night for any reason. She just got things done and handled everything herself. My baby was fed and in bed when I came home and she slept through the nights despite being in a strange place. I don't know what the nanny did but she was magic. I just wish I could have brought her back with me to la. I would give anything to find a nanny like that here.
