Absolute nightmare. Came in for a manicure and left wondering if I needed a tetanus shot. The clippers looked like they came from a murder scene, and the nail tech hacked away at my nails and cuticles like they had personally offended her. The tools were disgusting, one was held together with duct tape, and she grabbed a file from another customer's station and used it on me. The "massage" was basically a lotion accident she had to clean up afterward. I canceled the pedicure because I had already suffered enough. While I was waiting, another customer got her eyebrows done and walked out looking like she lost a fight with a weed whacker -- furious, in pain, and trying to figure out what the F*€k just happened. Dirty shop, terrible work, zero hygiene. If you're looking for a relaxing manicure, run. If you're looking for a story to tell your friends, this place delivers. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]They all check to make sure that you like the shape and length multiple times through out the process.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When they ask you to go wash your hands, they want you to take a moment to evaluate the current shape & length before they finish either painting with normal nail polish, or going forward with a gel finish (I've tried both, I have found that I prefer the durability of the gel/powder-dip/UV-finish result). [[HIGHLIGHT]]They usually have openings in the mornings, but I find that booking an appointment is hands down the best way to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sometimes you'll see potential clients waiting in the chairs by the door wistfully hoping for a no-show opening to happen. Their prices reflect the high volume of clients that they have coming through, which I think is really generous of them. When I start getting pedis there, I'll likely update my 5 stars to 5 stars. Filthy salon. I came in and sat down next to somebody else's dirty clipped fingernail. I have strong natural nails and they drilled them down so far that I have a big dent down to my nail bed (on all of my nails). They clearly do not clean their stations. Doesn't seem they sweep or mop. That should be done daily in a place of business where they are clipping nails and leaving them on the floor. They also do not clean their station in between customers. And the gel nail polish dryers look like they've never been cleaned. They have caked on dry lotion and smudges from prior guests. They are disgusting and I cannot believe they expect people to put their hands in them. read more

My latest attempt in my ongoing quest for a local nail technician brought me to Grass Valley Nails. I needed a pedicure (which turned out great btw), a noticed the nails of the woman in the chair next to me looked really good. Her recommendation brought me back to GV Nails for an appointment with Tammy. Tammy had her work cut out for her when I arrived, as my previous technician audition had not stood up well. I am--so far-- pleased with the results! The salon is reasonably clean and bright, centrally located and attached to a parking lot, which is convenient. They have reasonable prices and offer a pretty wide range of services. My one criticism is that Tammy was overbooked and I did have to wait about half an hour past my scheduled time, but she was very apologetic and offered another technician if I preferred not to wait. Fingers crossed, I won't have to continue to drive back to Sacramento every month for a manicure. read more

I'm visiting the area from out of town. I typically have dip on my nails and they're my natural nails. Well, I snapped 2 off and needed tips, so I stopped in 9/5/25. First of all, my cuticles are all cut up from the first technician. I have small scabs on 5 of my fingers. On top of that, my right hand nails (who were worked on by a second technician) are completely slanted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I mentioned it a few times and the technician would then remove my tips to start over.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She then told me the reason they're shaped differently is because it's hard to match the style of a real nail compared to a tip. I've never had that issue before. My nails are always the same shape when I leave a salon. The nails with tips are also not flat. They have grooves all throughout, even my real nails do now too. The nail technician could tell I was disappointed, so she offered me $5. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She then proceeded to argue with me why my nail shape was slanted again.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Again, I'm not from the area, but I get my nails done at least twice a month every month and have been for years. I've *never* had an issue where my nails were so noticeably crooked. I visit Grass Valley 2-3 times a year. I usually don't need my nails done during my trip, but if I ever do in the future, I will never come back here. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had. I reserved an appt for a $50 deluxe pedicure. My first time here when I checked in they had me select my nail polish color, which I did. Kay suggested we use a quick dry gel polish for a $70 price. I don't often leave negative reviews, but my hands were brutalized yesterday at Grass Valley Nails. I went for a dip manicure and left with 8 of 10 fingers bleeding. I come here about every 4 to 6 weeks and service has been uneven at times, but this was the worst. The manicurist was someone who has done a great job in the past. I don't understand what happened. The photos are from this morning when I woke up and my left hand fingers were bleeding again. Also, the nails don't look very good -- they're filed at different angles and there are heavy ridges of polish at the base of some nails. I should have stopped her but I didn't realize how bad it was while it was happening. Near the end, when she was using a drill file, blood splattered in a circular pattern like in a miniature chain saw massacre -- there was bright red blood her hands and apron. I'm pretty sure she put those files etc back in the box without cleaning them. WTF. Also, general comment: The last three times I have set up appointments they either had no record of the appointment or the person the appointment was with said they hadn't been told about it. read more

I paid $80 for a pedicure ($60 on the menu) with gel polish ($10 extra charge) and my cuticles are inflamed today due to snipping healthy tissue, the tech didn't wear gloves and none of the equipment was sanitized. She just grabbed each tool out of a basket on a cart that likely wasn't even washed between customers. Worst $35 pedicure ever, the technician only spent 23 minutes on me from start to finish, she didn't even file my toenails or clean them out. The paint job is extremely sloppy, some on my skin and paint not down to the cuticle on almost every toenail. All toenails uneven with both polish and edge of nail. They we're obviously taking in costumers they didn't have time for and took way longer than it should've.
