If someone states MY DOG DOSNT LIke HER FEET TOUCHED - let that mean : their dog doesn't like their feet touched. 3. If there is no reason to suspect the dog is aggressive because the answer to their first question is YES then don't ask..is the dog aggressive ? Try, what happens? How does the dog protest ? I'd then - FOR EXAMPLE respond with- like how I stated- " she tries to scurry /run away and whines - so she has to be held and brought in, why are you asking me if she's aggressive. I see the staff has changed - A LOT- it's not welcoming AT ALL- LIKE AT ALL - Brenda got her nails clipped TODAY but y'all come off unprofessional, way too immature and side on PREJUDICE - prejudice of ppl and dogs. I also do NOT care if a groomer is pregnant or not. And? Then don't come to work /get a new job- don't make that my problem or business. Cuz that means you're asking EACH AND EVERY PERSON who brings in ANY DOG for grooming THATS BEEN THERE BEFORE " is the dog aggressive ." Pretty sure you're not asking EACH AND EVERYONE that- I wasn't asked yesterday.... YESTERDAY when I went in and spoke to at least two of the not so welcoming ppl at the counter today- and emailed her up to date shot records. As I stood there I did it so indent walk off and forget. Ummmm where was a concern then? Shoulda, coulda been asked yesterday when I stated- my girl doesn't let me cut her nails. So I bring her here - I was in there for a good chunk of time - only concern was is rabies 1 year or 3 years - has she been there before... Whatever you gotta do to learn how to speak to ppl- ask questions and handle scared dogs- do that. Practice in the mirror IDK IDC- but there was ample opportunity to ask me when I stated it yesterday- today you saw Brenda and asked- if she was aggressive. That's PREJUDICE. Her profile should answer concerns of her temperament. Brendas nails grow so fast- and nails were so long it was dyer they be cut. So I gambled and let it happen because a more friendly female carried her back. So it seems ok and it was- but now I have the ICK I'll take her somewhere else. We had a super bizarre experience here. This place used to be great years ago for our last dog, Ramsay, and we brought our two new dogs here expecting the same quality of care. The initial trial meeting with Robert went well, and he is quite nice and clearly a dog person. but then after their test visit we received feedback that our dogs were panting a lot and possibly too nervous to be allowed to board overnight. We did THREE separate subsequent day care days on their insistence so they could acclimate before being allowed to stay while my husband and I went on a quick weekend away. When we dropped the dogs off for the third required day care visit, one of the workers greeted our dogs by sharply saying "don't bark at me, Jolene" and taking the leash with annoyance. (No one had barked.) The feedback we received when we picked them up was "they can't stay here overnight." We asked if they'd caused any problems, or if there were any behavioral issues. "No, they're just too anxious." Ok... well, I'd be anxious too if I was being left at a place where no one seemed to really want me. Luckily we quickly found Animal Den, an awesome facility on Power Inn Road that's not only cheaper than Grateful Dog, but also has a pool and is staffed with people who smile when we walk in with our dogs. The photo I'm sharing here is of our anxious dogs having the time of their lives at Animal Den. It's a bummer because we live in midtown and can walk to Grateful Dog, but I'm glad we found the new place because of this experience. read more

I was debating on whether or not to leave a review, but I cannot in good conscience allow anyone who loves their dogs to let them suffer at this place. We went here one time because we live two blocks away, but never again. Dogs can absolutely sense when there's something not quite right about someone. I brought my German Shepherd here a few months ago. This is a dog that was docile at every other place we have gone to. The first time here was a disaster. The employees did not know how to handle dogs. They act like they are deathly afraid of every animal that walks through the door. This is not a great environment to bring any dog to. Especially larger dogs. If your dog enters a groomer and all they smell is fear from every one of the workers, they are going to get excited. It would behoove the owner to hire a dog trainer to teach himself and his staff about how to approach animals. Since he clearly has not learned this yet. And that if an employee feels fear, they must exit the building. Or quit the job. Very simple. read more

After over 2 years of taking my highly energetic labradoodle to Grateful Dog Daycare for grooming and daycare, I can still say they're still just as great to her. Every time we say the word "daycare", her ears perk up, eyes light up, and tail wags uncontrollably. She absolutely loves this place, and as soon as we hand over the leash, she doesn't even look back to say bye. Is this how it feels to drop off your children on their first day at school? :( A few things to note for those who have never taken their pup to a cageless facility: - They require a temperament test to ensure your dog gets along with all others. No one wants to see dogs fighting or injuries. If your dog does end up getting into a scuffle, they will likely ask you to not bring them in for a while and come back for another temperament test. I've never had this happen with my pup but have heard of this occurring to others, which makes sense to me. - Your dog will come home smelly, so deal with it! It's a dog playground where they run around, pee, poo, and step in each other's pee and poop. Don't expect your dog to come home smelling like rainbows and unicorns. I've always opted for a discounted bath just before picking up my dog or they can sometimes spritz your pup with a perfume. - The prices are high, but the staff is so attentive and helpful. When I first became a customer 2 years ago, the staff was so amazing and always recognized my dog whenever she came in. Whenever I walked through the door, they knew exactly who my pup was. Nowadays, they've had a bit more turnover and more staff, so it's understandable that we aren't recognized. Although, I do miss the "Coco's going home from daycare" as soon as I walk through the door. - They take accountability for nearly everything and are very transparent. I've run into issues with picking my dog up a few minutes late due to traffic or emergencies, or they'd mess up on taking away an extra daycare day. They always work with you to try to find a solution to any issue that arises. Grooming has been hit or miss here. I used to always go to Monica, and then Marissa, and the Otilia. Now, their schedules are just so full that it's almost impossible to get something in the books unless it's 1-2 months out. I still can't quite find someone who can properly groom my labradoodle, but her fur grows out so fast that it doesn't always matter that much to me anyway. read more

Cut: We typically ask for Reggie to have a full cut, but lately have been getting sanitation cuts. It's always been a pleasant experience, and his haircut always comes out so cute. The process takes about 3 hours, depending on the type of dog. I have to admit, Reggie is not the fondest of all people, but he is slowly getting there. We also request to get his ears and teeth cleaned. Price: Since Reggie is a larger dog, the price is as he is half Poodle, half Golden Retriever. With tip, the price typically comes out to be slightly higher than most places. It is DEFINITELY worth it, compared to other dog grooming places. The quality of Grateful Dog Daycare is exceptional, compared to other franchises (Petco, PetSmart). Location: Grateful Dog Daycare is on a corner, and parking is pretty easy to find since it's close to residential neighborhoods. Street parking is pretty easy, seeing as there's 15 minute parking right in front. It's just enough time to drop off your dog or pay. Service: The receptionist is extremely kind. We have been coming here for almost a year now and they've always provided amazing customer service. One time, we tried to book Reggie with Eli. Unfortunately, Reggie was acting up, so they called in letting us know they couldn't proceed with the appointment and that we had to wait for Lindsay. They offered a complimentary teeth cleaning when we came back for the inconvenience. They really care about you and the dogs they bring in. They want your dog to feel comfortable and happy, and I really appreciate that! Overall, would come back again. I can leave my house and have peace of mind that my dogs are in trusted hands. It can be isolating to have a dog with separation anxiety and Grateful Dog has not only been incredible in taking some of the burden off of me when I need a day or night off, but being accommodating and patient with my special boy Finn and his new sister Noodle. Im at a loss of understanding how poorly this building is managed. It's a complete dump, the walls are dirty and it's run down throughout the entire place and the ceilings have holes as well. Don't even get me started on how unprofessional and rude the receptionist was. The new receptionist Marissa I think was so rude to the point that i never want to go back. My dog also had his tails tucked between his legs when i picked him up and the last time that happened was when i used to leave him with my abusive ex. This is an great service with caring employees. Our dog knows the words "Grateful Dog" when he's taken there for play and mixing with his doggy friends. And they are scrupulous in making sure the dogs are not aggressive towards other canines. I once witnessed our smallish terrier go up to a pit bull while wagging his tail and then giving the pit bull a couple of licks on his nose. The pit only looked on as if to say, "well, never had a kiss like that." Yes, it's possible your dog might have some doggy odor when he's picked up, but it's never been a bother to wipe our pet down a little with a moistened towel or give him a quick bath. I understand the company will also provide a bath if you request that service. Like all animal service businesses - grooming, boarding, vet hospitals included - it can't be the simplest business to run. So accolades to the owner. I believe in this very needed role in our culture which frequently demands two breadwinners in the home and very much appreciate the dedication of the employees and their transparency of service. read more

The first time I went in to have my dog groomed they did an excellent job. The second time unfortunately, it was a different rumor, and she chopped my dogs hair. By that I mean, my dog's hair was uneven and even had spots where her hair was significantly shorter. I have not returned because of that reason. I may give them another chance because of the fact that the first time I took her in, they did an excellent job. It could've just been the groomer. They always say you pay for what you get that is why I took her to this place. Someone suggested that I take my dog there. My dog has been to other groomers and most of them do not do a good job. I have even had the unfortunate experience, where a groomer had to take my dog into the emergency vet because they cut her severely. Hopefully if I return they'll do a good job. Until I was coming to pick her up and Hannah informed me it will be her last day, I was so shocked and asked why and all she said was my dog was opening the gate to the yard. As new dog owners you're obviously going to feel a bit lost when trying to find a place to get your dog groomed. Sure, you can go to your Petco/PetSmart, but a majority of the time it could be a hit or a miss. We were fortunate enough to get a recommendation from someone who had the same dog as us and knew that this place knew how to specifically cut for our little Golden Doodle, Stark (pictured). Location- This business is located on a semi-busy street and parking was by sheer luck. You're going to have to park on the street, so TIP: if you're going during rush hour and are about half a mile away or so, start looking for parking! If you end up missing it you might be stuck doing endless U-turns. Lucky for me, there was a car on their way out and I was able to swoop right in and take his spot. Service- The receptionist and groomers were super nice! I definitely loved the experience I received as a customer and how the groomer took the time to really explain the type of cut I was getting, made sure to hear my needs and offer suggestion if she doesn't think it was a good idea, and basically work with me to ensure Stark would look his best after his cut. It took about an hour and a half for his cut which included shampoo, trim, sanitary cleaning, and nail cutting. Full service for a great price! Let me start off by saying, I have never bothered to leave a negative review of any business, but I can't not say anything after my experience with this place. If you love your dog, do NOT take them here!!!! I had my dog as well as my in-laws dog boarded here for just a weekend while my husband and I were getting married. We dropped them off Friday morning and picked them up on Sunday morning. During their stay, I received a text message that my dog was limping for an "unknown reason" on Saturday night. After sending multiple texts the night of my wedding and getting no response back, we immediately went to pick them up on Sunday. By that time, they stated my dog was magically no longer limping but gave more zero explanation for what happened. Throughout the next week, we noticed that both dogs were scratching a lot and sneezing like crazy. We were able to get them into a grooming appointment the following week and that's when we were told both dogs were found with TICKS. My in-laws dog had THREE TICKS embedded in his skin that required immediate removal, taking some of his skin with it. My dog was found with ONE TICK and the groomer realized he was limping because she found a huge tear in his paw pad. The amount of negligence this place is doing after getting proof of TICKS is disturbing and criminal. I will NEVER take either of my dogs here again. & I will NEVER refer this place to anyone who has an ounce of love for their pet. It is completely despicable, and the employees/owner should be ASHAMED. How would they feel if it was their dog that this happened to? What would they expect in order to resolve the issue? The LEAST they could do is refund us for the vet and grooming bills, if not the entire boarding stay. But the owner claims there is no chance they got the ticks from that facility, suggesting we must have taken our dogs to a grassy, wet or damp field. NOT A CHANCE. Our dogs are indoors 99% of the time outside of walks around residential housing. But at the BARE MINIMUM, protect the SAFETY OF ALL THE DOGS THEY HAVE IN THEIR "CARE." read more

I must say I loved this daycare for my fur baby, Xena Warrior Princess (Xena for short). The staff were really welcoming when I first went in for a consultation to see if I wanted to take her here. Shortly after the visit we set up a behavior evaluation, and Xena passed, but I wasn't too worried about that. It was the actual stay that made me more nervous. I set up for Xena's trial day and when we get there she is super afraid to go in and that worried me all day. Normally she is super social and will go to any human or dog, so when she didn't, that made me a little uneasy, but it probably was because it was a brand new environment for her. I wish they had cameras, but honestly it's good, or else I'd be looking all the time. When it came time to pick her up, I loved all the little touches. The gift bags, treats, and the report card. If I had to name a negative I would say on the report card it says that she wanted a staff member to pick her up and hold her, and they did, but when I dropped her off, I asked them not to do that because I really wanted her to play. I took her to a different daycare, and they held her all day, and she didn't really get to play. I don't think they did it all day, but it's just a tiny thing. I know she enjoyed it because she was sleeping 2 minutes into the car ride home! I will definitely be back ! read more

My dog, a lab mix, has been going here for years for boarding and he loves it. He also went to daycare for a short time last year when I had to work 12 hour shifts as an essential healthcare worker. They have convenient pick up and drop off which was nice when I was working at 5:45 am and couldn't drop him off myself. However, this past weekend when I boarded my dog, an incident occurred which was fairly egregious in my opinion. My dog was going to be boarding for the weekend and I had originally made an appointment through the online pet portal for him to be dropped off at my house on Sunday afternoon since I knew I would be returning in the evening and so I would not be able to pick him up before it closed. Before I left for my trip, I checked the weather and saw that it was going to be 106 degrees on Sunday when my dog was supposed to be dropped off. I was not planning on leaving the air conditioning on, so when I took my dog in for boarding I told the receptionist that I wanted to extend my dog's stay and pick him up the next day so that he would not be left by himself in a hot house. Apparently it was not changed or communicated because when I returned from my trip, it had indeed been 106 degrees in Sacramento and my neighbor said that my dog had been dropped off in the early afternoon. The house was at least 85 degrees. Luckily my dog seemed ok, but needless to say, I was livid. I communicated by email through their website about the incident but I have not heard back in over 2 days. I am pretty disappointed because I think my dog likes staying here. It seems like there is a problem with communication and my advice would be to really make sure your message is getting across by telling multiple staff members, using the online pet portal, etc. It shouldn't be necessary but apparently it is. I'm not sure if I trust them with my dog anymore and will probably be looking at other options for future boarding. I know this review is long but I wanted to tell the whole story. read more

I just want to say how this place honest to god, goes above and beyond. I have 1 year old Alaskan Klee kai with separation anxiety. He is also a very hyper, high energy boy. So we've been sending him to daycare. Now that he's been going for a month or so, he LOVES it. He always gets so excited when we get close to the building. He also is tuckered when I get home from work and that's been so nice. They don't hesitate to call me if there is something off with Newton (like his allergies and tummy problems), and they honestly go above and beyond to assist in any questions I have, or help my crazy dog mom self. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this yet. When I lived in Sacramento, my dog, Eddie, was a regular here. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I never once had even a slightly iffy experience. To start with, Eddie had to do a full "interview". Not just paperwork and a two minute quickie interaction with another dog - an actual "interview". And it was done by the owner, Robert. He asked a lot of questions, explained everything as he went along / what he was looking for, etc. I was really appreciative of this. Unlike other day cares, they really take the time to understand your dog and ensure he/she will be a good fit. The facility itself is one of the nicest facilities I've seen. Small enough to not feel corporate and nice enough to not feel like a concrete pound. The staff are above exceptional. They are all extremely nice and sweet. And they really love dogs and their jobs. They were always so excited when I brought Eddie in (and he was just as excited to see them). They would send me pictures and videos on occasion. And they would always update me on how his day was, if there was anything unusual (he moped for an hour, he rolled in poop, he found a new girlfriend, whatever). And I could really tell that Eddie loved it. He's been to a lot of day cares, but he has never seem quite as excited and fulfilled as when he went here. The grooming is absolutely outstanding. Eddie never looked better! Seriously, the best grooming experiences I have ever had were here. And I absolutely love (as did Eddie) that they have cage-free boarding. I have yet to find another place that offers this. For a dog that spends his nights sleeping with us on our bed, this was great for him. And I felt good knowing that there was a staff member there 24/7 - yes, there is a bed where a staffer actually sleeps overnight with the dogs! There were so incredibly accommodating to my schedule too. I worked crazy hours and there were a couple of times where I arrived after they had technically closed. They never minded and were always very nice about it. And as far as prices go, it's actually the cheapest of all of the day cares / boarding / grooming places I've used. So the cheapest and the best - it's a dream come true. Not to mention all the fun additional things - Thanksgiving dinners for the dogs, a Halloween costume party for the dogs and their parents (this was so much fun!), bringing in a pet photographer, etc. Robert and his team are incredible! This was the first time I've taken my dog here. My Bichon has special problems because she has a lot of pain when her ear hair is removed but, it must be done to prevent infection. The groomer Eli kept this in mind and was extra careful with my dog's ears. Eli did a perfect job with the haircut too. He was very conscientious. The staff deserves extra kudos because my little girl can be a difficult diva at times, but everyone there accepts her as she is and gives her unconditional love. The daycare is awesome, but I can't rate higher due to grooming. I've been waiting almost a month for my dog's appointment, called to confirm the time, was told he wasn't on the books and it was possible that they booked it under another dog with the same name. The receptionist offered to book another appointment ....... in July. I wish this was the first issue I had booking appointments for grooming unfortunately it's becoming the norm when it comes to my Grateful Dog and my pup. read more

Our pibble Sage loves the grateful dog and she gets recognized by staff when we are out and about in midtown, which I always find so funny! My husband buys a package and we take her to dayplay every other week and she always knows when we are on our way there b/c she gets a pep in her step. Although Sage isn't really into playing, she likes to socialize and especially loves the staff and I can tell they enjoy her too. We have also boarded her for long weekends. We like how they have the kennel free boarding and they even give her a report card so you know where she slept every night, who her favorite doggie friends were, and how much of her food she ate (eating is never an issue). While it is a bit pricey for longer stays, it's perfect for day play or short term boarding needs. read more

For the first time in over 15 years, our entire family had to leave for a vacation. That meant that no one would be home to stay with our dog, Sandy. So finding a place for her to stay overnight for more than a week was a big deal, both for the family and for Sandy. When we found Grateful Dog Daycare through a friend of mine, we were already at ease because she and her wife are animal lovers (specifically dogs). From what I heard and what I researched, this place seemed too good to be true. It was cage-less, for one, and the services they provided were exactly what we needed for Sandy. With that said, I was worried when I saw that all dogs that would stay overnight needed a temperament test. Aside from being a rescue dog, Sandy has never lived with anyone except members of our immediate family. So we weren't sure how she'd react to new people, new dogs, or staying overnight (for several nights) with strangers in a strange land. When we got to GDD, we met Hannah, one of the managers. And when Sandy growled at Hannah, I thought "That's it, we won't get in" and began thinking of family and friends that could drop by the house when we were gone. But instead, Hannah told us that Sandy was just being very protective of us, not mad at her. Essentially, she was very understanding and reassured us that Sandy would fit right in. We went through the rest of the "interview process" as well as a trial daycare session, and Sandy passed with flying colors! She ended up staying at GDD for over a week, and was the happiest, calmest we've ever seen her when we picked her up. We are so grateful for the staff here (pun intended), and we will be taking Sandy back regularly and often. Thank you! read more
