Klecko and Jolene drying off after a dip in the pool at Animal Den.
    Joclyn K.

We had a super bizarre experience here. This place used to be great years ago for our last dog, Ramsay, and we brought our two new dogs here expecting the same quality of care. The initial trial meeting with Robert went well, and he is quite nice and clearly a dog person. but then after their test visit we received feedback that our dogs were panting a lot and possibly too nervous to be allowed to board overnight. We did THREE separate subsequent day care days on their insistence so they could acclimate before being allowed to stay while my husband and I went on a quick weekend away. When we dropped the dogs off for the third required day care visit, one of the workers greeted our dogs by sharply saying "don't bark at me, Jolene" and taking the leash with annoyance. (No one had barked.) The feedback we received when we picked them up was "they can't stay here overnight." We asked if they'd caused any problems, or if there were any behavioral issues. "No, they're just too anxious." Ok... well, I'd be anxious too if I was being left at a place where no one seemed to really want me. Luckily we quickly found Animal Den, an awesome facility on Power Inn Road that's not only cheaper than Grateful Dog, but also has a pool and is staffed with people who smile when we walk in with our dogs. The photo I'm sharing here is of our anxious dogs having the time of their lives at Animal Den. It's a bummer because we live in midtown and can walk to Grateful Dog, but I'm glad we found the new place because of this experience.

Reggie's first haircut with Lindsay! :)

5/5 for the haircut, service, and location. Our Goldendoodle, Reggie, has always been skeptical of other people, but Reggie has really grown fond of Lindsay. He doesn't usually let other people give him a bath, cut, or clean his ears, but she does an amazing job! Cut: We typically ask for Reggie to have a full cut, but lately have been getting sanitation cuts. It's always been a pleasant experience, and his haircut always comes out so cute. The process takes about 3 hours, depending on the type of dog. I have to admit, Reggie is not the fondest of all people, but he is slowly getting there. We also request to get his ears and teeth cleaned. Price: Since Reggie is a larger dog, the price is as he is half Poodle, half Golden Retriever. With tip, the price typically comes out to be slightly higher than most places. It is DEFINITELY worth it, compared to other dog grooming places. The quality of Grateful Dog Daycare is exceptional, compared to other franchises (Petco, PetSmart). Location: Grateful Dog Daycare is on a corner, and parking is pretty easy to find since it's close to residential neighborhoods. Street parking is pretty easy, seeing as there's 15 minute parking right in front. It's just enough time to drop off your dog or pay. Service: The receptionist is extremely kind. We have been coming here for almost a year now and they've always provided amazing customer service. One time, we tried to book Reggie with Eli. Unfortunately, Reggie was acting up, so they called in letting us know they couldn't proceed with the appointment and that we had to wait for Lindsay. They offered a complimentary teeth cleaning when we came back for the inconvenience. They really care about you and the dogs they bring in. They want your dog to feel comfortable and happy, and I really appreciate that! Overall, would come back again. I enjoy the service & experience that Grateful Dog Daycare always provides. :)

Love love love this place. We use them regularly for grooming and have also used their daycare and boarding services. We have two goldendoodles- and we recently started taking our youngest pup there. Always love their cuts!! Highly recommend for sure!

My main concern was our dogs not being comfortable with the rotation of different pet sitters, so I expressed that concern with Janet and figured out a plan to prepare our dogs. We ended up booking walks for our dogs to meet with the different sitters they may encounter during our vacation. Each walker/sitter we met was equally friendly and our three German shepherds had no issue with either one of them. We received reports after each visit, which we appreciated. What I do appreciate most about Lucky Buddy Petcare is that we're not dependent on one person's schedule while planning. The booking process is super easy through their website. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a pet sitting company!

I am grateful to have found Janet and her team to walk and stay overnight with my smart, loving and rambunctious Aussie, Jake. Jake loved his walks and especially enjoyed his time with Janet and Kathleen when they stayed with him when I went on my first trip in years because I would not board him. I told my friends I thought he was two-timing me because he was so happy and relaxed when I arrived home. I also had a dog walker come every day at Janet's suggestion while I was away and I truly appreciate the time and care these young women gave to Jake during that time and his regular walks. Sadly, Jake is no longer with me. He was only six years old but he had a medical condition that was lurking, unknown and undiagnosed until it suddenly appeared shattering my world. My first call was to my friend, a retired vet, who told me the likely diagnoses. My second call was to Janet who told me where the best ER animal hospital was located and provided additional emotional support. Janet continued to reach out and check to see if I was alright after I had to make a pet owner's most dreaded decision. She is not kidding in her business info when she says she will be there for you.

Drew has been such an amazing cat caregiver for my crew of fuzzballs for the past several years…read morethat I've decided I can never move out of the area. If you're looking for someone with a genuine love of and connection to cats, who is very experienced with cat behavior and health issues, and who is supremely trustworthy and reliable - look no further than Drew. Before I met Drew I spent so much time on Yelp contacting other pet sitters in the area and they all seemed like they were mostly dog-oriented and just tolerated cats and would be only dropping by to make sure my cats were alive. Then I contacted Drew and I knew right away she was special - she actually adores cats and her primary concern is getting to know your cats' individual needs and quirks and providing the best comprehensive care possible while putting your mind at ease with daily checks-ins and photos. (She also owns a photography business and you can hire her for an epic pet photo session!) Drew regularly takes care of my guys, whether I'm busy for one day or away for a longer trip. Under anyone else's care, I'd worry about their individual dietary and behavioral needs - I have a picky older cat with anxiety and urinary issues, a goofy black cat with a sensitive tummy and a history of eating inedible objects and getting the occasional ear infection, and a young, spunky one-eyed cat who once had an injured leg. Not only has Drew gotten to know each of their personalities and connected with them like they're her own pets (they greet her at the door), she has expertly attended to their occasional extra needs and has on multiple occasions taken the time to talk me through my concerns about their issues. In addition to being a cat owner herself, Drew has experience working at clinics and rescues and volunteers her time at a cat sanctuary so I thoroughly trust her input and consider her a valued care companion and part of our pet family. My cats (and I) absolutely adore Drew and there's just no better feeling when you're away than total peace of mind that your fur family is receiving the best possible care. 5 stars, 10/10. Thank you, Drew!

Cassi and Lindsay have been great trainers and I have noticed a difference in our dogs. They use positive reinforcement for their training method. Midtown Mutts also offers dog walking, 1:1 sessions and pet sitting. My neighbor uses them for pet sitting and she loves them. You pay based on how many visits and the length of time you want them to stay. They take pictures everyday they visit to show you how your pet was that day. Pros: they have a membership and you can choose 1 or 5 classes a month. These classes don't roll over if you don't use them - I made the mistake of thinking they do. They have a calendar where it lists the classes, time and topic. The calendar is a bit clunky and confusing so it takes a bit to figure out how to navigate. If they don't have too many people sign up and you need help in a certain area, they accommodate your request. They have answered my numerous questions and been very patient. I can say my puppy REALLY enjoyed class because he was showered with treats also as a lab, he never turns food down! My partner and I both work full time and were in a pinch come Monday morning. I Yelped dog walkers in our neighborhood (midtown/ downtown Sacramento), called a few places, and left messages hoping for a small morning miracle. KP to the rescue! KP, owner of Sac Dog Walkers, was the first one to get back to me (just a few minutes after I called) and we set up a time and place to meet about 30 minutes later. We met at a local midtown park and he took his time to meet Toby, walk around the park with him, see his personality. They were a great match from the start. KP has a very down-to-earth, friendly, and trustworthy demeanor and energy. If I had any immediate gut feelings, I would have looked elsewhere. I mean, this person comes into your home and takes care of your furry loved one... gotta have trust! Toby really liked him as did I immediately- so we walked to our apartment, showed him the layout and Toby's kennel, made copies of our apartment keys at Ace and bam- he became our regular 5-day dog walker. It's been 3 months, and we've not had one issue with KP. He texts pictures and videos of Toby every day and even takes him to the dog park with his pup friends for an hour/ hour an a half at no extra charge. He gets to exercise, play with friends, socialize, practice good leash walking, and goes to the bathroom. KP's normal 30-minute rate is $20/ half hour walk, but $18 if you're a regular (4-5 walks per week like us). He invoices every 2 weeks and just leaves the print-out on our dining table. Very convenient. He has also picked Toby up from his groomer and has been able to walk him twice in one day on very short notice when we've had emergencies or just had to stay late at the office. KP even snapped a pic and then cleaned up an accident very thoroughly that Toby left on the couch. Great! I 100% recommend KP if you are looking for someone reliable, dependable, and communicative to come into your home (your home!) and take care of your furry little friend.
