On our way to Flora and Fauna coffee shop we came across Graveface Records. Lot's of vinyl records. I picked up a classic Peter, Paul and Mary for $1. Beatle records were $30-$70. Many jazz records and other genre. Inside there was a good deal of record memorabilia. I have about 6 boxes of vinyls and a working turntable. Just needs a little love and maybe a new needle. Located in the Starland hipster district of Savannah (it is astonishing that a city this size has one), Graveface is an exceptional record store and seller of otherwise neat stuff. In the back, there are a couple of free pinball games including The Munsters. The selection of metal and punk, is as if someone knows and cares about those genres. Prices are in no way bonkers. Most of the new vinyl is about $25 or so. There also boxes of used vinyl. Now, looking at their website, I am knocked out by their other locations, which I should have checked out when in Savannah and I can't believe more than one is inside a mall! read more

I just sold my entire collection of Jazz, Heavy metal, Hard rock, blues , and bootlegs on ebay...and this place sorta made me wish I hadn't....sigh. Graveface records is an awesome record store with a good selection of new and used vinyl. I found plenty of 80s hair metal and heavy metal ala Metallica etc. But there is something for everyone. As I was searching for fun things to do in Savannah, this place popped up as a must visit. As an avid vinyl collector, I added it to the list. Graveface Records is located near the Starland District of Savannah. They have a wide variety of vinyl records, new and used. They have bargain bins outside that were only $1 for a record. Inside the many shelves hold everything from metal, rock, rap, country, jazz and everything in-between. We scoped things our for a little bit. I had a few titles in my head that I wanted to check for but didn't find them. I did end up finding a Burzum record that I was pretty happy to snag. The store is decorated with all kinds of cool and funky items. They even have a museum down in the Water Street district. Go buy some records! read more

Strictly a "rock" record store. No good used records. No jazz. No blues or good R&B/Soul. Never seen such a lack of musical representation in music. Don't waist your time here. When it comes to record stores, it's hard to find one that fits your personality. Graveface is my kinda place. Not only do they cover all there, rock, metal, grunge and punk but toss in a little jazz. These are just my preferences. They may not be everyone's cup of tea. It warms my heart to see bands like "F*cked Up", "Minutemen" and "Louis Armstrong" in the same stop. The big bonus about this place is that it also serves as a kitsch and creep mecca. There are cool creepy mask about the shop. Also there's a pretty rad arcade in the back with games like "Mortal Kombat" and "Victory Road". And plenty of taxidermy which adds to the spooky factor. They have a super cool jukebox that you can ask for quarters at the counter to play something. This jukebox is surrounded by clown kitsch. And on top of all this you can still take some nostalgia home with you. I couldn't help myself but snag a "Garbage Pail Kids" button. And at the front by the register there was some eerie and unique pins from "Cellar Dweller". She also made the clown and witch mouse taxidermy. I'm pretty sure the clown is Gacey inspired too. I had to snag a witch mask enamel pin. This place really rulez. I didn't get any coffee that was mentioned in the previous review. But I did see the guy from the shop at "Back in the Day Bakery" snagging coffee the next day. So maybe get coffee there and get records and knick knacks at Graveface. Wish I could have taken that mouse coven home with me and the Ella and Louis record. read more

This place RULES! I picked up an Atrocious Madness LP I've been hunting for. Miguel is super nice, and has good suggestions. Totally going to rock this joint again next time I'm in Savannah. This place is INSANE!! It is described as a collection of morbid curiosities, bizarre objects, and retro pinball machines. It is so much more. If you are into true crime or horror this is a must see museum. There are exhibitions ranging from shrunken heads taken from old circus "freak" shows, a room with UFO materials, and rooms relating to true crime. One of the creepiest sections is the one dedicated to Charles Manson, and has letters, drawings and other artifacts from him. There is also a whole room dedicated to paintings by Pogo the murdering clown. The old pinball machines were awesome to play, and free with a ticket to the museum. read more

The novelty of record stores lie in their homage to the past. Walking into Graveface is like dipping your toes in a classic, thrash horror film. Obviously, you won't be kicking and screaming, but they've cultivated their brand from what they love. This was my second time visiting this gem. I searched for close to an hour, although it could've easily been two. I walked out with Alice in Chains Unplugged, a super important record in my musical life. I'm fascinated by their stock of live albums, from Neil Young to Bob Dylan to Iggy Pop, you'll find live albums you simply cannot find elsewhere. Other things to know: free coffee for all shoppers, a $20 for $30 Yelp deal (which you need to take advantage of), tons of classic arcade games in the back of the store, and huge selection of new/used, classic rock, indie/alternative, hip hop/rap, metal, punk and soundtrack. Ask for Ian, he's informative as all hell. I absolutely love this shop. Especially since one of my go-to shops in my hometown just closed down, I'm more appreciative for locally owned record stores every day. Until next time! read more

This place is awesome and refreshing. Grabbed a couple of records while there and found out about a new artist they were playing.

We stumbled on this gem by chance, as it didn't have much signage, but we are so happy we found it. The "yes we are open" sign is actually what we saw and then figured out it was an oddities museum. The museum had serval pieces from famous serial killers and cults (Charles Manson, John Wayne Gacy, Peoples Temple/Jonestown, Aileen Wuornos, Heavens Gate, etc). Also oddities and creepy things like shrunken heads, clown memorabilia, alien encounter info. I didn't spend any time in the pinball room, but it was available had I chose to. The worker and owner both wore masks and were knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions. read more

I really loved the store's look and feel and it had some of the most unique and cool items I've ever seen. However, I have to take it down a point for one frankly bizarre interaction I had. I found something I wanted to purchase and it didn't have a "Not For Sale" sign or anything on it. I went to the register and asked how much this particular item was and the shopkeep answered, "Hmmm, I'm not sure. I really like it. I think I wanna keep it for a while." Undeterred, I explained that I was really interested in this piece of merchandise. He said, "You'll be back." Now, here is where I said I was visiting from Minnesota. He said, "You'll still be back. Everyone comes back here." Now, he's not exactly wrong. I would love to come back here if I am ever in Savannah again. But in that time, I *guarantee* someone else will already have purchased this cool thing I really liked. And that disappointed me a lot. And that's the story of why a store I really like and continue to root for wound up with only 3 stars for my review. read more

I had planned to stop at a number of record stores as I made my way south on the Atlantic route to Florida on I-95 this season, but as it turned out, Graveface was the only one I actually did make. I learned a little about Savannah itself as part of making my way to this shop as it is well outside the established tourist route. Once inside, I engaged the young record seller who was on duty, and made my way to the used bins on the floor by the counter. I quickly found a number of $2-$3 soul and reggae records once owned by "Sonny" (he'd made sure no one was going to walk off with his LPs by marking his name on them). Nonetheless, Sonny's records weren't in bad shape despite being a bit dusty, so I overlooked the personalized labeling and wondered where Sonny is today...if he is with us on this Earth still. Part of the charm of old LPs to some extent. Eventually, I made my way into more expensive fare (but not too expensive because this is one of the most reasonably priced shops I've entered in 2014). Graveface has very decent electronica, reggae, hip hop, jazz, and soul sections and I found a little bit in each to add to my stack. Finally, I made my way to a section called "Psych/Pop" and hit a goldmine of reasonably priced new records that are actually hard to find if you expect not to order them online (which I try not to do). For example, I found several rarer Guerssen Records (a Spanish/German reissue label) reissues of American psych bands of the late 60s/70s. These are well made European records and always a pleasure to own. By the end of my digging, the owner had arrived behind his counter, and I had tallied quite a stack that ultimately resulted in a purchase of nearly $300. I was surprised (and maybe a bit put off) by the owner's failure to offer me a discount on the basis of such a large haul but I feel that his prices were already evident of the small business' need for cold hard cash and I respected that right off. Still, Graveface is the first record seller in the entire USA who hasn't offered at least a 10% discount to sweeten the deal for a serious purchase of this sort. I believe this was due to having been marked as a tourist. Maybe? I was offered a tote bag or t-shirt and I wound up with two totes so the proprietor tacitly acknowledged the significance of my patronage. I laughed all this off once I realized that my Yelp checkin at the start had resulted in a 10% discount offer and I had just failed to notice it! I won't make that mistake again. Certainly, I would encourage any big time buyer to make a stop at Graveface and to press their advantage by asking for a discount up front for large purchases, but in any case you will be getting a very fair deal from a shop that clearly knows what vinyl record collecting is all about. All said, this is one of the most well-curated vinyl record shops I've found in my recent travels. Highly recommended! read more

I've been patronizing this establishment now for awhile. I'll show up weekly and there's always some quality "new" selections that have shown up the week before. I like the owner..Hes super engaging and will take your email down and locate anything you might be looking for. Every genre you can think of..my OCD thanks him for the Clear Separation of different types of music..or even movies on Laser disks.. tons of stuff for a real music nerd to spend hours crawling through.. They're practically GIVING AWAY albums outside... hundreds of $5 (might be less!! just ask) records that didn't meet the quality for sale inside the store.. Not necessarily somewhere if you're looking for "valuable Vinyl Collectables" to be showcased on display in the store. However, he has these, too. Just ask. But for the rest of us looking for High Grade vinyl to LISTEN to... ...this place fits the bill! Nothing against the (small selection of) competitors in town but this joint is my favorite. Great shop! Graveface has done a great job a curating an interesting assortment of records that is quite different from most others. Located a little off the beat and path in Savannah there is a lot of close Bu parking on and near the quite street. Inside the shop is of fairly good size with new arrivals right up front for the regulars to sift through. They stocked both new releases and used titles with pricing right in line to slightly under the norm which is a great thing for their customers. For me, the selection of titles is what sets graveface apart from the competition. They have their own record label and carry titles in stock. As a fan of shoegaze, it was a unique experience to find everything from Ride to My Bloody Valentine to Slowdive. My challenge as a shopper was understanding the cataloguing of the records as I found the same band in a couple of different places. It's all good if you're able to dig through the entire store, but I only had a short amount of time so I feel like I may have missed some titles. I asked about a couple of artists to the clerk to which I was told they had nothing only to find a few 7" hidden. I know it's a bit nit picky but organization and knowing your stock is tantamount to building a business. Either way, I would definitely recommend stopping in and having a look.
