It starts with…read morea parade down Main Street Sebastopol, and every year it feels like the whole town is out to watch it. People start camping out prime parade route spots the day before, and come morning it's a festive vibe from Analy High all the way down to the South end of town. After the parade there's a two day town fair with all the festivities you'd hope for: good fair food (from local food vendors, not the standard junk food at a lot of fairs), local craft vendors, two kids areas - one carnival style, and another with a more arts and crafts vibe, and multiple music stages. I think because Sebastopol has such a lively music scene, the music every year is way better than you'd expect at a small town fair. The same person (local Sebastopol legend "Mr. Music") who books Sebastopol's summer music festival, Peace Town, is the one who organizes the Apple Blossom Festival music. Tickets are cheap, and I'd say the only thing that could be improved is more entrances and/or ticket pre-orders as the line to get in right after the parade can be pretty long! The Apple Blossom Festival is not to be missed for any local, or anyone who wants to visit Sonoma County on what is almost always a magnificent mid-Spring day!

A portion of the proceeds benefits Stewards of the Coast & Redwoods, the non-profit working in tandem with the California State Parks in the Russian River region, and the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department. $20 is a little steep though. We were handed a raffle ticket with no pen or instructions. When we finally got a pen and walked back, we told the raffle box was at the main stage on the far side of the event. We decided to get something to eat since we were waking past the food. Several food tents were sold out of food early! The food was okay and not surprising...over priced. When we got to the main stage, we were told it was too late to put in our raffle. I think it was a bit unorganized but I got over it and did some wine tasting. You have to buy tickets for the tasting. The pours were weak. With a $20 entrance fee and towards the end of the day, I thought they could have done better. The only reason I would return again was for the music. The last act was so fun! I decided to stop by to check out the art, wine, and of course...food! For starters there is an entrance fee of $15 or more (can't remember as this happened back in April 2022). Why is there an entrance fee?? It's just a bunch of vendors like you would see at a farmer's market. There was music which was nice, but again, why is there an entrance fee? It's not like we're getting a drink with the entrance fee. No, I would not recommend this.

Bins set up for Compost, Landfill and Recycling (although I think most of the compost heap wasn't actually compostable...oh well) The smell of weed, nagchampa and people at every turn. Awesome art, fun vendors, crazy-one-of-a-kind clothing and jewelry. My only complaint is that for a Festival that supposedly boasts loving the environment, being sustainable, and being host to people who are eco-friendly and emotionally evolved - there sure is a lot of trash everywhere. Can't people pick up after themselves if they love the earth so much? There are trash bins everywhere...walk your barefooted self over to one and voila...done and done. This year Lauryn Hill was the driving force for me to come and I have to say...she was late and did her mic-check and volume levels for the first 10 minutes of the show... mmm not impressive. She sang some old school stuff at a very fast pace, probably to get through her set, which as stated before - was late. I was hoping I'd get to hear more from her vocally... you know, like super wailing some of her emotional, righteous sh*t... All in all though - Good Festival. I'd def go again.

The weather is perfect, you're on the river, and on both sides surrounding you are tons (literally) of BBQ to be eaten and kegs of beer to be emptied. There's music, revelry and a lot of satisfied bellies all around you. It's definitely an experience to take in. We had a bit of a logistical hiccup getting in, and unfortunately I wasn't able to try the Mad Scientist BBQ (winner from last year) but there's always next year. And with that being said, I sampled at least 8-10 other very legitimate BBQ teams serving some of the best ribs and chicken I've ever had. If you are fortunate enough to secure a ticket for this event next year I recommend a couple things: -Get a beer lanyard for $5 (they are super helpful) -Come with an empty stomach -Eat first, then drink. The food runs out before the beer. -Bathroom lines can be tough, try to go to the less obvious Porto locations That's it, see you next year Stumptown!
