This place is a total Petaluma community asset. I have seen three shows there now and each one of them has been outstanding. The acoustics are excellent and the set up is fun and intimate. I want to say the venue holds five or 600 people. It's always pretty easy to get in and find a space to sit or stand and the bar in front as you walk in is always hopping! The staff is friendly and the location is fantastic in downtown Petaluma. We recently paid $35 or so per ticket to see an outstanding country performance and I would highly recommend it to anyone whether it be date night or a small group of friends, you can't go wrong checking out a show at the Mystic Theater. My first experience with the Mystic was not one I would want to repeat. The website said doors at 7, band at 8 but nothing could have been further from the truth. I arrived at eight and upon entering was greeted not by the reggaeton influenced tunes of The English Beat but blaring 80's music spun by a failed wedding DJ. Snippets of old tunes at ear shattering volume continued for an hour followed by a 30 minute turnover. When EB finally came on after 9:30 the acoustics were so bad I could barely understand the lyrics. Not sure if this was an equipment problem or mixer issue but, Blech. Here is summary of my issues: 1) if you say band starts at eight, band should start around 8. 2) use a local opening band to give up and coming artists exposure. 3) Play music at a reasonable volume, hearing loss is no joke! 4) Get the sound right so Fans can actually enjoy the concert. Classic theater vibes starting from the architecture and lighting outside, and the layout inside was unique and just as appealing when we attended a film fest here over the weekend. There are cushioned folding seats on the lower level sides and upstairs balcony. And dining tables with seats throughout the center of the lower lever, all this inside the auditorium. Love the options for enjoying snacks and drinks at a table while viewing screenings, though there were cupholders at the standard seats too. The passion fruit margarita was delightful, and they serve food from McNear's Saloon at the bar as well, along with popcorn and other snacks. Lots to choose from on the menu. Sufficient service. Saw the tribute to Amy Winehouse 6/20/2026. The band and singers were fantastic. Bit the venue's accoustics are beyond horrible. Went to the Mystic back in like 1996 to see the band, Cake for $10. It was awesome. I hadn't been back since. But then came to see Napolean Dynamite Live. We had VIP and recieved an email from the Mystic saying to be there at 5:30 for meet and greet at 6. We didn't get in until about 7p because they were having technical difficulties. Ok, fine, it happens but someone could have come out to let us know. The show itself was amazing and the theater was nice and small. Coincidentally, the VIP circle seats were metal chairs that were insanely uncomfortable, yet the back and balcony seating were plush cushion chairs. The restrooms were the nicest part of this old has been. come on Petaluma, just because the Mystic is historic and old, doesn't give this place "an automatic pass" on what is considered public worthy. this was our first time here to see Fleetwood Mask, a great group, hindered by a very poor sound system full of distortion. But hey, the drinks were flowing and everyone was drunk, so hopefully no one noticed. There is a strange vibe here. Don't leave your table with drinks in clear view, because it will get snatched up and you will get attitude when you ask for your table back, because after you get sauced here, there a sense of entitlement from the locals. read more

We had not been to the Mystic Theater in Petaluma, long regarded as an icon for Sonoma County music. When we learned that local legends Tommy Castro and the Painkillers were performing there we went online and got tickets. Arrived about 30 minutes before the doors opened. You line up along the sidewalk, not a problem at all, it's wide and easy for people to get by. ID is checked at the door, I always chuckle when us senior citizens get checked but it's a good policy to have. Once inside the layout is what you would expect. Stage upfront followed by a large open dance floor. Behind the dance floor are some high top tables and a few seats. There are also some seats along the side of the theater. We heard there were a few rows of seats upstairs and made our way up there to enjoy the show. There is a bar downstairs for alcohol beverages and soft drinks. No bottled water, water and cups available for free from a dispenser. During the show there is security walking around making sure all is going as expected. Finally and most important, how was the sound. Answer is very good. Loud as it should be but balanced. cClarity was also good, the acoustics do a nice job. So how was the show? As usual Tommy Castro and the band were fantastic and had the crowd dancing and singing the whole time! read more

Love the mystic. What a great venue. This was our third time here. The drinks are mediocre and overpriced but I will pay for an ambiance. Tonight we were here for the Halloween show which was advertised as going until 11:45pm. I scheduled my Lyft pick-up for 11:30 and Mystic security told me I needed to leave at 11:10pm because they were closed. Really disappointing to stand in the cold in my costume. read more

World renowned entertainment? Check! Reasonably priced tickets? Check! Local talent! Check! The Mystic Theatre has this & so much more! Kind of hard to believe that once upon a time, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth this use to be where one could come and enjoy vaudeville. Then as time went by one of it's many names was the State movie theater where they use to show, dare I say it....porno flicks! Yes they did that in sleepy little Petaluma but that was a long time ago and now it's grown up to be the Mystic Theatre where one can come and watch various types of musical entertainment from local to well known talent. And all this at reasonable prices. Not to mention a movie or two. And in all my 51 years of living in Petaluma I've never been to the Mystic until recently when Wynonna & The Big Noise came to town. I've seen her perform many times throughout her career and I can say that watching her in my own home town in such an intimate venue was magical! The Mystic has a dance floor right up by the stage, as well as a raised platform in the middle of the room with tables for your drinks but no chairs for sitting. On either side of this raised platform are seats just like in the movie theater (not the new luxury seats but the standard theater seats). There is a balcony with seating as well, and there is a full bar. Parking is street parking or you can parking in one of the free parking garages located on Keller Street or by the Theater District on Second Street. If you see a particiular performer or act listed as coming to the Mystic Theatre I'd grab yourself a ticket or two as you'll enjoy the venue, the ticket prices and have a great time! read more

The ambiance is what brought us in, and it was pretty cool but unfortunately the food didn't do it for either myself nor my friend. Don't get me wrong it's ok, but paying $30 for a meal and a drink that are both just acceptable isn't my thing. The server was nice, but didn't check in on us until I physically tracked her down to ask for the check, which also was bothersome as we had asked for sauces. I've visited the Mystic since i turned 21; But 39 yrs later my life has grown complex w/ grandkids & aging parents, + working full time, it's been months since I've attended. My hubby and I, + another couple were excited to get out one night to experience Petaluma; planning to catch Spikes Sikes at the Mystic during a Halloween event last night. After the annual dia de la muerte event and having a bite to eat, we finally got to the Mystic to see what the deal would be to come in on the later side. As we approached, we were stopped near the ticket booth, by a costumed woman who looked at us, with no costumes on, and said, "hey this is a concert, the bar is over there" pointing at McNears. We asked if Spike had played yet; she didn't know, & kept pointing us to the bar; it felt condescending. Then a bouncer came up saying that the show is over, as we asked if we could just see how it sounded inside. Initially we'd wanted to ask if it was still worth it to come in & if there was a deal for the 4 of us to could come in late. They said we'd have to buy full price tix. They were clearly discouraging us from the moment they saw us rather than welcome us with what options were available to enter. I have no idea why they were discouraging, other than we didn't have costumes? Our husbands went to the bar, while my girlfriend and i didn't want a drink. We decided to take a walk passed an open back door to the Mystic, with music blasting. We entered to peak into the show that was ending to see what we were missing, knowing we would be turned around and asked to leave, which we were by a back door man who said, "buy tix at the front. " We asked isn't it almost over? He said no it's not. (While at front they said it was over?) We started walking out, only there 5 min max, when suddenly a high strung man came racing up behind us like he was having a panic attack urgently yelling, hey you, hey hey, how old are you? We had no idea it was the owner, aggressively upon us as we were leaving the place to ask how old we are? We were almost out the door so i jokingly said "12!" He didn't like that, and started spewing all kinds of insults; told us to "grow up, leave the area, we are not locals, get the heck away from his business, " and more. We told him it was not ok to talk to us like that. We really don't have a problem to pay any amt. if welcomed to come in; but his attitude was so angry like we were punky school kids trying to sneak in and steal money. He repeated over and over for us to grow up, and yelled that we are definitely not locals. We finally blurted we are 60 years old, lived here most our lives, & who's he to speak to us like that? He slammed the back door shut yelling for us to leave town (?!?!). Then the door swung open and another guy comes out who's jovial. We said, are you a performer? He said yes, I'm taking a five min. break from the costume contest. We told him of our experience and he said "omg, go around front and tell them Sebastian St James forgot to put you on the guest list. Find Sara, she'll let you in. "We were already over it, but since we had to walk back around front to get our spouces, we thought we'd try our luck. We walked up to front door again, & the bouncer who'd told us the show was over and that we'd need to pay full price, sees us walking up and shakes his head like we are punky minors trying to sneak in. Before we can say a word, the owner runs out yelling again for us to grow up and leave the area. We tried to tell them what Sebastian St James said & they laughed, saying they highly doubted us (???) Rather than welcome us and say, oh you guys want to catch the last of the show, it's well worth it, etc, ask us to pay something, but no; they pushed us away. This is upsetting since I've lived here most of my life and the Mystic has been a memorable institution in Sonoma County. I recall sharing their events, when i couldn't attend because i thought it was valuable, during Covid. But i was shocked by the owner's "over kill" attitude toward us; not professional. I just don't understand why they didn't like us from the moment we walked up other than we had no costumes on, or could it be that three in our party were black people? I said I'd write a Yelp about their service; they said it'd be false since we'd not patronized that night. But we were at their door to patronize! read more

I've gone to a show years before and it was a decent vibe (hence some stars). But recently I had purchased tickets online for a non-bigname comedian (a month or so out from the show), and my finacee immediately reminded me that this was a day we had committed to throwing a party for our son so couldn't attend. I called and emailed back within minutes to cancel my order and they responded several days later and refused. So kept our money for two vacant seats. Lame. read more

This would absolutely be 5 stars because I do love this venue. However, I am not happy with the way they are handling themselves at the moment. During covid, they begged the community to help save them from going out of business. They offered $125 giftcards for $100, which I happily purchased because I would hate for them to close. Now that they are opening back up, I want to buy tickets to some shows. There is no way to do this online. I have called (phone number is not active), Facebook messaged, Instagram messaged, emailed, commented on posts. NOBODY will respond to me!!! Look at the dates. Went to see a comedy show here, and that was fantastic. I've never been to this theater, but I've heard a lot of things. I loved the show. It was a little cramped, but it was a great time. However, the owners and staff here are rude and violent. I watched security and the owner pushing and shoving paying customers for accidently standing in the wrong line. They are aggressive and not professional at all. And the lady owner, I've dealt with her before on the restaurant side. She is a snobby individual who clearly has no customer service skills and uses violence and slurs to intimidate people who paid a lot to be there. The fact that I watched senseless violence towards people who were not aggressive or out of control. They were not breaking rules they just stood in the wrong place.....disgusting. and they feel it's okay to attack people with no consequences. Do better. Bad enough, a waitress at the restaurant next door told me she was drugged by a bartender that still worked there, and I'm just shocked. What else goes on there? read more

This is one of my lifetime favorite venues! The best ever bartenders, even when the line gets deep, they rock it out and make great drinks. They never give light pours and that kind of crap. It's an old theater with a very color full past and its still creating great times. Mystic has a great calendar of shows, and it's a casual fun place to be. You can bring your take out foods on here! I really enjoy this venue. So far we have seen a Pink Floyd cover band, Reverend Horton Heat, and a Led Zeppelin burlesque review. The seating is nice for ADA, and I can't think of a spot where there's a bad view. The bathrooms are nice and clean considering some of the shows. There are posters all over the walls outside ladies' room in case you're drunk and need something to focus on while you're waiting to use the toilet. I would absolutely return to this venue to see anyone. My only issue is the bar situation. There are two sides to the bar and people can't seem to figure out how to stand in line due to the close quarters. Sometimes it takes a while to get service, even when it's a sold out show. I'm not sure how to fix this, but it's something that should be noted. read more

Built in 1911, The Mystic Theatre, was built in 1911 and was operated as a vaudeville theatre. Which is also connected to McNear's bar and grill- which is open to watch sports games and is a common hangout in old Petaluma. The theater seats near 500 and it the home to music shows. The sound is pretty incredible in the design of the theater from the stage to the back. As a guest they offer seats for patrons, seated tables, and even a dance floor near the stage. read more

FANTASTIC. Thank you Mystic management for bringing the music world to this sleepy little town. Again, Petalumans are so lucky and I am one of them. I just saw Malo at the Mystic this past Friday and the opening band Sister Morales from San Antonio, TX were too hot. The two lead singer/guitar strumming sisters(real sisters) were like a Tex/Mex version of the Heart sisters. Their lead male guitarist wasn't so bad either. They played modern but very traditional Mexican/Spanish music. They were so good and the audience loved them, as well as management and they let them play a nice long set. I enjoyed the set so much I had my boyfriend buy me their traditional Mexican CD that the gals autographed. Can't wait to let my mom listen to this excellent CD. The ladies mentioned that Los Lobos produced one of their songs. Chalk up another one for Mystic bringing us great entertainment for rock bottom prices. read more

This show venue is easy to like. It's big enough to occasionally book a national, semi-famous level talent yet small enough that the room & the employees are personable. This room is an old movie theater. Back in the 1970's you could see the $3 double features here - they showed different movies every night!. Sort'a like a go-out-on-a-date NETFLIX. About 50% of the old uncomfortable movie theater seats remain. There's a 10 cafe table seating section dead center of the room. You can order healthy hippie type snacks, beer & wine are served. Thus most shows are 21+ adult only admission due to the alcohol. McNear's Saloon is next door. Lot'sa Americana fried food there is served pre- and post- show. read more

Saw a show here last year, Snoop Dogg. It's nice little theatre downtown. Not meant for large events. There's a parking garage a few blocks away; the rest is just street parking. No real place to get merchandise, but has a tiny bar in the front. I'll see a show here any day of the week. read more

Haven't been back to this place since one of the bouncers threatened me. Was waiting for husband to finish going to the bathroom after concert and I started a conversation with a complete stranger there. The stranger asked the bouncer if she could go backstage and instead of the bouncer politely saying NO, he threatened the woman i was talking with. I intervened and said that was no way okay to say to anybody, swearing and threatening to use force. He then began calling us drunks and I was furious, explaining that I don't drink. He then began to threaten me and told me to back off or he would punch my face in! I am a 5'2 woman and I was wearing a dress. My husband comeback and i told him what happened, that same bouncer then left and somebody else stood in his place. Never again. How did something like that escalate so fast??? I get you sometimes get annoying people asking questions, but there is no need to threaten somebody with violence. read more

I saw Amanda Shires and Lily Hiatt play here last year and it was one of my favorite concerts ever!
