You can now park in a little lot adjacent to the store, and they took the trouble to do some pleasant landscaping out front, which to me is always an indicator the proprietors care. In any event, the nagging doubts about the location are now all gone and they've proved reliable over multiple years so they are definitely a five-star local business. Repairs here again were fast, cheap, and done quite well on my most recent issue (kid got a string tied up inextricably with the roller on a brush unit). The stock in the store for new sales is quite varied for vacuums, much less so for sewing machines, but they know their way around both for repairs. I have bought a refurbished used vacuum for about half the price it was selling for new and it's been perfect, and our "beater" vacuum I leave for the second floor was brought back to life for about $40.

Mike Kanciruk has been in the repair business for more than 15 years. He's racked up great reviews which convinced me to give ComputeRx a try. Mike fixed my broken MacBook Pro in about a week. The laptop screen had cracked and I forgetfully let the warranty expire. Ugh! Mike charged me $75 for labor to install a new replacement screen which he had to order. It wasn't cheap. The whole thing ran me close to $600. I like Mike because he was upfront about costs and what needed to be done. Initially, I took my broken laptop to a repair shop near me where it just sat untouched for more than two weeks. The repair cost they finally quoted was between $100-$200 more than what ComputeRx actually charged, plus they wanted the money upfront. I had a bad feeling about that so I took my laptop back and brought it to ComputeRx instead. So glad I did. ComputeRx at 2215 Nott St. It shares an office with Nott Street Office, a shipping and copy business. They're few doors down from Lange's Pharmacy. .

I brought my crashed external hard drive into the store to see if they could recover the data from…read moreit. The guy who did my intake explained that it will be $162 due today. I asked if that is a flat fee if they are successful or unsuccessful. He said it was. I asked in there would be any additional fees, he said no. He said if they have to mail it out if they can't figure it out then it would be extra. I told him to not mail it out without first calling me to approve or not approve. He also asked if I wanted them to put the files on a hard drive which would be extra. I said no and asked if I could bring my own hard drive to transfer the files. He said yes. I asked if I should just bring it at a later date to do that and he said yes. He told me it would take 10-12 days. On day 14 I still hadn't heard back so I called. The guy who answered didn't know what I was talking about and had to call me back. Another call where the guy seemed confused about what I was asking. At this point I lost the tiny bit of confidence I had with this place. He called back a second time and said they recovered my files and I asked can I bring my hard drive at 3pm the next day to get my files. He said yes. I arrive the next day to be told by the store manager that it will cost me another $75 to transfer files to my hard drive. I refused to pay and told him nobody said anything about a hidden data transfer fee. He said then I couldn't have my files I paid $162 for them to recover. I was so upset and he admitted it was possible his staff neglected to tell me 2 different times there was this hidden fee. He offered to charge me $50 not $75 for the error. Had I known upfront it would cost $237 not $162 I would never have hired this shady company. I am skeptical and think this is a normal predatory practice of this place
