We worked with John initially with catering services for our wedding on 11/08/2025. We met John for a tasting and met another time at the venue to go over day of/set up. Both times and all communications before the big day was good. Fast forward the week of the wedding. Here comes in Tammy to fill in for John because he had a family emergency. I'm not sure how much was communicated between the two. On day of the wedding, I noticed it was already 1pm and there was no signs of the caterers. Not one call giving a heads up that they were running late. At our walk thru, John said he would be arriving at 11:30/12pm. Eventually they did show up. I was told by guests that the food was good. I was called the next day by the venue director that Graystone had left grease and oil stains all over their property!!! I have video and photos to show the mess and damages they left behind. They did not lay down tarps in all of the areas they were at. I also have some of their linen napkins which tells me their staff didn't bus the tables like stated. I was told by wedding coordinators and venue management that they did a poor job at cleaning and respecting the property. John had reassured me that he leaves the property cleaner than what it was. Tammy and the staff that night were the opposite. Anyways, I got left with a damage and cleaning bill from the venue from their mess. One star for their business practices. The venue: backyard Wedding Most of the negative reviews on here and on Google, the Knot, are about their lack of communication the unprofessionalism of the husband and wife team and as it gets closer to your wedding and after you paid your deposit, you're pretty much stuck. They do not accept credit cards not even for a deposit. They are currently the preferred vendor at Skypark Santa's Village but talking to people up there because I am a season pass holder, I doubt that preferred status is gonna last very long and again it's based on their business practices and communication. Their food is good, but not good enough to deal with their unprofessionalism. The staff they hire is a combination of mediocre and OK. They wanted to serve cake before even clearing the dishes from the tables. I would never use them again, and I would recommend you stay away. read more

I have a hard time leaving poor reviews, but I'm still really bummed about my wedding at Skypark on 10/8/21. The wedding was beautiful, and the food was great (thank you, John), but I was disappointed with the wedding planner, Tammy. She was adamant we had to use vendors approved by the venue. I told her I wanted a Photo Booth, which was not a vendor option a few months leading up to my wedding. She told me it wasn't a problem and that her and her husband, John the caterer, were thinking of purchasing a photo booth to offer as a vendor. I had to put a deposit of over $1k down once she verified they'd supply their own Photo Booth at our wedding. She promised we would get a copy of all guests' photos, so I didn't get a wedding guest book for our loved ones to sign and thought it would be even better to get a photo book to put said Photo Booth pictures in. I also didn't get a videographer (my husband and I were already paying $40k for this wedding without family help and I was more than tapped out). We NEVER got the pictures. I reached out the next month, and she said there was a problem and she'd reach out after Thanksgiving but asked if I'd leave her a good review in the meantime. It's been almost 3 years, and I'm still waiting for a response and the darn pictures. My husband and I didn't have a videographer (which kills me) because we thought we'd get these Photo Booth pictures to look back at, and now we don't have a wedding video or the Photo Booth book. It's just really a bummer. No apology either!! No recognition at all. For how expensive this beautiful venue is, this and other things left a bad taste in my mouth. Moral of the story: Keep in touch with your wedding vendors consistently, because if they are anything like Graystone catering, if you don't reach out to them, they might just cancel on you too close to your wedding (or not show up at all). If I had never tried contacting John, I'm not sure if they would have ever reached out to me to let me know they were going to cancel on me. I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism from this caterer. I will be getting married in September 2023. Graystone catering received my deposit to secure catering services for my wedding in November of 2022. After I made multiple attempts via email and phone to hear from John (just to ask a simple question), he eventually called me back. Before I had a chance to even ask my question (a question that I had been waiting over 2 weeks to get a response to), he tells me they are going to cancel services for wedding (which I had already paid a deposit for months in advance). I was immediately speechless. He proceeded to explain that it was because of a "family emergency" of some sort (I'm sending my best wishes, but it's hard to wrap my head around an emergency that can come up 6 months in advance). I simply responded with "I will need my $500 deposit back". He questioned me at first, "Did you pay your deposit already?", adding to my distress. Yes sir, 5 months ago when I booked you. I immediately made sure to follow up the phone call by sending him an email with an image of my deposit receipt. Refund was received. However, I made it my goal to lock down a caterer in 2022 because with inflation, caterers have become significantly more costly in 2023. Now I am back to square one with finding a caterer and time is no longer in my favor. I genuinely want to believe this caterer's reasoning for the cancelation, but something tells me he must have quoted another event for more money and felt it was easy just to cancel on us. I cannot express enough gratitude for Tammy and John and neither can our guests! My now husband and I got married May 15th, 2021 at SkyPark in Skyforest, CA. Tammy is extremely responsive and so so so incredibly kind. Through the entire wedding process I felt informed and heard from. She gave so many wonderful tips and tricks to make the wedding planning easier an more fun! Even during covid, they invited us into their home to try their amazing food for our wedding dinner. During the wedding day, she checked in on me multiple times throughout the day to make sure everything was running smoothly. She informed us of everything and anything that happened covertly without causing worry and concern. John and his team are amazing cooks and our guests cannot get over how amazing everything tasted. Graystone did the catering for a wedding I attended at Arrowhead Pine Rose Cabins in Twin Peaks, CA and they did a phenomenal job! Purely from the perspective of a guest, all employees were very gracious, including walking around to the guest tables after everyone had dished up to make sure we were all happy and if there was anything else we needed. Restaurants don't have service this gracious! And the food was absolutely delicious, our table couldn't shut up about how yummy it was. While it did have the look of a standard wedding buffet spread, there was definite love and quality infused in each bite. We dined on grilled lemon chicken, tri-tip, roasted veggies, a spring salad with two dressing options, buttery herby red potatoes, and rolls with butter. The cocktail hour eats we had were simple but tasty - fresh fruit plates, and juicy spicy meatballs on large toothpicks. Coffee provided with dessert was simple but very nice - good nutty flavor, with two flavored creamer options. We used Graystone Catering for our wedding in September. From our first tasting to the end of the wedding, John and his team were amazing! He was very accommodating when we wanted to change our menu selection. On the day of our wedding, John made sure myself and my husband were taken care of. It was 104 degrees at our outdoor wedding, and our DJ was having equipment issues due to the heat. John and his staff made sure myself and my wedding party were given water and fruit while waiting to walk down the aisle. John personally checked in on us several times throughout the reception to make sure we didn't need anything. We never had to get up for anything; somebody from his team was always there to get us anything we needed. The food was amazing and our guests loved it. His team helped set up the tables before the wedding started as well. Literally anything we needed, they were there to help. They went above and beyond what you expect a caterer to do. They boxed up all the leftovers including the cake for us to take with us. I highly recommend Graystone Catering, you will not be disappointed. If I had to base the review on the food then it would be 5 star. John and Tammy catered my 09/19/21 wedding and they seem like nice people. But leading up to the wedding, I tried to contact them on several occasions but they did not reply or were very short. Later on, I tried to contact them several times regarding timeline and such but they did not reply. They didn't email me until they needed to finalize things just a few weeks before. The day of the wedding; John made sure we were doing good throughout the night and made sure we had a snack before taking pictures. But they forgot to make the vegetarian dish and one of my bridesmaids mentioned they didn't have it out for them. She asked John when getting her plate and he said there wasn't a vegetarian choice. The day of coordinator wasn't Tammy like I thought, she told me this 2 days before the wedding. The day of coordinator they had was Esmerelda. Tammy said she will show up at 10:45am but she didn't show up until around 12pm. She hardly checked on me, I had to go to her to ask her questions and told her to let me preview the centerpieces and arch before the wedding. She did not come get me when she was done. The centerpieces were good but wished they had more greenery around them and the arch didn't look the way I wanted it. I saw the first set up when I went outside to ask her something and I didn't like it. She changed it but she still didn't come to me when she was done and I was already walking down the isle when I saw it and it looked better but the greenery looked like it was droopy (needed to be higher on the arch). So now it's in all the pictures. Also Esmerelda was rushing us on taking pictures and I didn't get all the ones of my family like I wished because she wanted us to do the Introductions to the reception while we were trying to get a few family shots and promised to do more after the introductions but we didn't have time to before the sun went down. If you have been to a lot of weddings like I have, you know just how terrible food can be at a wedding. Not the case with Graystone! Because of terrible past experiences, I had a clear mind of what I thought would be good food for a wedding. Graystone offered to make me those dishes for our tasting along with some of their past favorites. I was really surprised to find out how good the other food was and completely abandoned the menu I had in mind. I originally wanted fetuccini alfredo and a chicken dish and I got over that real fast when I tasted Graystone's island chicken and grilled steak. I never thought those flavors would be good for a wedding but I was wrong! I loved it, my husband loved it, and my guests are still talking about it. My favorite part was John listened to how I wanted the food prepared. The steak originally comes with peppers and mushrooms. We asked for no mushrooms (per my husband's request) and that was honored. We asked for the steak to be prepared medium, and it was prepared how we asked. The chicken was moist and delicious. I made sure to give myself enough sitting time to enjoy my dinner. They made sure we got our food first so that we could enjoy eating while our guests were busy getting their food. I appreciated this touch as it allowed us to take a breath and relax while everyone was distracted. I also enjoyed that we were offered appetizers right after the ceremony ended. I was so hungry from only eating breakfast early in the day so having a quick bite before an hour long picture session calmed my stomach down and made the moment more enjoyable. We got married at The Grove in Redlands with no package, venue only. Graystone was our all inclusive package and did everything for us. I got married at Marina Resort, Big Bear Lake Ca on Sept 7th 2012. Loved Graystone's food and presentation; Loved our appointment and preview before we booked them, and my guests loved the food too. Everyone had great things to say about the dinner. I disliked the communication between John and us, and disliked that although all our communication was done through John, he wasn't around for our event, and had sent his wife. His wife was lovely, but I felt that if he had stated he would be there at our wedding and was the person we were corresponding with, he should have been present. We had a wedding on 8/22/15. The food was amazing, during the tasting event and during the wedding. Everyone loved it and they loved the Jamaican meatballs and shrimp we added as an appetizer. John and his staff were so professional I felt like they were from a 5 star restaurant, truly amazing and they way they handled things was great. I do have a couple of things that upset me during my wedding. The moment we walked down the aisle they were waiting for us with the appetizers we ordered. Maybe some people are hungry but we were in such an awe with the wedding and just saying I do's to each other, we didn't want food shoved in our face. It would have been nice if they had one staff member come over with one platter about 10 minutes after the ceremony during cocktail hour. So when I told him we didn't want any but would still like to try it, he said he would have a little platter set up on the side for us. This did not happen. We never saw or tasted our appetizers. This was the most disappointing thing of my entire wedding but of course from Graystone Catering. Before the tasting I requested to try the Jamaican meatballs which was an unusual request because John does not usually provide appetizer tastings during the food tasting but he said he would do it for us. So I was disappointed when we go there and they weren't available at the tasting. I know I know, its just meatballs, but no one has any idea how much I wanted to try those suckers and was never able to. Just so disappointing for me. Another minor thing, we were served dinner when we sat down which was nice, but of course we had people talking to us, one kid had fallen down and hit his head so we were distracted with that. We barely ate any of our food and they took it away when we tended the hurt child. I wanted to eat! I was hoping they were going to leave the food there so we can come back and eat throughout the night. All in all, this catering is one of the best out there, these guys are awesome and how they treat you is spectacular. Writing this review is a bit complicated, many things that go into a rating&this star is for the OVERALL experience from day one to wedding 11/4/17. FOOD - if I could just based on food= 5 stars. Received many compliments on the island chicken, red potatoes, and pasta huge hits for veg. I hear the bow tie salad was also good - but when we were given our plate we didn't get any of that an either of our plates. I am sure she would have given it to us if we asked, but to be honest I completely forgot about it so didn't know to ask! Now for the experience and why unfortunately I don't feel I can give over 3 stars IF that - service 2-3 stars- even though they made a few things right, and go smoothly there were too many headaches and broken promises. I think John & Tammy are both nice people & enjoyed working with them,as people. However, for a business that w/19 yrs experience(which I heard like 12 times throughout!) , it should've been a lot smoother of a ride. I decided to go back to my emails and notes before this review (I write DETAILED notes!). First off, my initial email correspondence was great! I really appreciated that. But in my 3rd or so email John wrote $500 deposit. Then when it came to paying the deposit it was suddenly $750 - which honestly I didn't think a big deal at the time - but the discrepancy is in the same email thread and that is a BIG discrepancy from a business perspective. That aside, I had many questions answered both via email & at our tasting (which was lovely & really sold us), after things started to get hazy. I made it clear from day one I needed to rent linens and a sweethearts table. John was a bit hard to reach until about a month out. I verified with him linens, & he basically made me have a momentary freak out because he said he wouldn't be able to provide linens unless they took them when they left, which was before the end of reception! Same with the sweet heart table! So when I started to freak out a month before the wedding now w no linens or SHT, he calmed me & said not to worry they'll do it still like said, although they at first wanted ME to take the linens & SH table home! Uh no! So they followed through, Great! But really NOT worth the extra stress, perhaps shouldn't offer rentals if you don't want to stay for the reception? More broken promises - he thoroughly expressed at the tasting how he would be waiting for my husband and I at the end of the aisle with our appetizers and water. Did NOT happen. Only after my DOC had already given us water, before our grand entrance, Tammy came with food. I appreciated the gesture, but it an hour too late. I was really looking forward to that promise! 2nd thing - At the tasting I made it very clear that I do no like food waste. John assured it wouldn't be a problem, and he could definitely pack up at LEAST 2 "plates" for us for after. Well - that clearly did not happen. We had 10 people not show up, so I KNOW there was a lot of left over food. I had been looking forward to the plated left overs at the hotel since we would be hungry. I just hope it wasn't all thrown away since like I said at least 10 meals left. 3rd - not so much a promise just a bad experience. About 8 guests came up to me & told me there was no coffee left by time they got their dessert it was away. UNACCEPTABLE. I clearly asked about this & in writing "through cake service" so to me that means THROUGH THE CAKE SERIVCE - We didn't do traditional cake service, a selfserve pie bar & 1 small cake. Since it was self served the coffee should have been out until everyone served themselves their. Nope. 8 people couldn't get coffee, that's too many in my book. Speaking of the drinks, we were told the water would leave with caterer and if we wanted water to provide for after that we could to end of reception. So I bought a Costco case of water explicitly for after they left. But unfortunately the bar tender was giving it out the whole night. Miscommunication. The bar was a good investment and the bartenders were GREAT! Only complaint was when we rented their bar & told everything would be in poured in cups, which I preferred since that's what I expected, not beer bottles being passed out Also, we paid for the china package totally worth it for aesthetics. Instead of champagne flute, had wine glasses, wish the bartender/serving staff would've let guests know to use them! I hardly saw them being touched, seemed like a waste of money unfortunately. perhaps better for the bartender to pour the wine into those glasses instead of the plastic cups? but that is a miscommunication. Overall- EXCELLENT FOOD, but highly disappointed about "left over" situation, the coffee fiasco, not meeting b&g like told, and difficult/unprofessional at times/communication. I recommend them because of the food & monetary value, just be weary of communication, and if certain things are important to your or your group it might not happen as planned. read more

I recently had my wedding catered by John and amazing wife. They are the nicest people ever! Super accommodating. It was very cold on my wedding day and my grandmothers and babies had to stay on the lodge. When John found out they hadn't eaten yet he immediately brought food and drink for all. The food was delicious and the appetizers were amazing. I'm incredibly happy I chose them to cater my wedding. There are many stories of kindness they had done throughout my wedding but the care they provided for elderly and handicapped guest without question really is a testament to how they run their business. If you are considering or contemplating Graystone catering, you absolutely, no questions asked, have found the BEST in wedding catering. John, the owner is an absolute dream to work with! I recently just spent a year and a half planning a pretty unique wedding, one where I supplied all my own vintage china/glasses/flatware/etc.. John worked with me to create a system where all of my dishes were cleaned and packed/hassel free. It was amazing. Not only was their service impecable, their food was to die for. I cannot tell you how many guests told me that Graystone was the BEST wedding meal they had ever HAD... and, I agree with them. The meat is cooked on site, portions are HUGE and the presentation is beautiful. We also had quite a few vegetarians, and there were plenty of options!! Graystone was the caterer for our wedding over a week ago. They are absolutely amazing! Not only was the food amazing, which is not very common at weddings, but as I was coordinating the vendors Graystone volunteered to help me with whatever they can. Furthermore, though we requested a buffet-style dinner, they not only brought my and my wife's plate to our table, but they also did the same for all our elderly guests. To bring us back to the topic of food, I just want to say, my wife's aunt, who normally hates eating chicken, is determined to hunt the recipe for their lemon chicken. Great food! My hubby and I just got married at the Mariena Resort this Saturday the 13th, and I cannot put into words how perfect their team made my wedding day!!! They really went above and beyond to get to know us as a couple, and make everything not only go smoothly, but make it so you (the bride) have little to worry about on your big day. The food is AMAZING, seriously... I highly recommend the chicken.. The coordinators are so friendly and focused on you. Graystone was recommended to us by our wedding venue, Skypark Weddings. The owners invited our immediate wedding party to a tasting at their home and showed us some pictures of their work at other weddings (food, appetizers, and ways they had displayed deserts and appetizers). The tasting was wonderful, a great dinner with choices that almost had us torn between options (it was all so good!). When it came to the wedding reception, they delivered exactly what we had ordered with great service. The food was wonderful, the staff was efficient and friendly. They coordinated well so that my wife and I would have time to eat at our own wedding while our guests were being served. My wedding was 2 months ago and I'm STILL getting props on how delicious the food was!! Every single compliment we received included how the food was the BEST! In my Mexican culture, people always worry about the food, and I've heard props on how good or bad the food was in every past wedding I've attended, so that was a priority to me, and let me tell you I did NOT go wrong with Graystone Catering!! From that first phone call all the way to my wedding dinner, everything went so perfect!! Not once did I have issues!! John answered every single question I had without me even asking on that first phone call, which was extremely helpful as I have never booked catering before. Then on the tasting day, John treated me and my 2 matron's of honor like royalty!! He even was generous enough to pack leftovers and let me take them home!! My mother-in-law cooks amazing and to hear that she absolutely LOVED the flavor of each entree (I gave her some of the leftovers John had packed for me), was a confirmation to me that this was the way I needed to go!! The day of my wedding, John took care of EVERYTHING!!! And my husband and I felt so honored that it was the John, the owner himself, that came and served us at our table, constantly checking up on us. This was by far the most amazing wedding! We got married at big bear Marina resort. Everyone could not stop talking about how wonderful and delicious the food was and how beautiful everything looked. The food is honestly amazing and was a big hit! All Our guests went to breakfast the next day with us and we're still talking about the food! Tammy was so wonderful to work with and made sure everything went according to plan and everything looked perfect. I could not be more impressed and thankful for the both of them. This caterer gave us samples of good food before the wedding and we were satisfied with the food. At the wedding the food was completely different from what was agreed on in the contract, we payed for chicken breast and beef well done, but at the wedding we got burnt chicken thigh and bloody beef.. the contract said one thing and we got another, the servers weren't professional and didn't give you a warm welcoming feeling. It felt as if the servers were just doing the job to get it over with. This caterer did not offer water in the room where we were eating, we had to get up out of our seats and walk passed a whole mess of chairs and people to get water, and the water dispensers were constantly clogged with fruits. read more

All of our guests raved about the food at our wedding. John and his team created a wonderful dining experience for everyone. He was flexible and accommodating. From start to finish, everything was tasty and perfect. We especially loved the beautiful cheese platter appetizers. John included all of our favorites! The steak medallions and island chicken were a hit. Although we never met our "personal attendant" because we were busy with our guests, they were there making sure we were served and happy. John and Graystone catering made our special day run smoothly and perfectly. Not only that, John was always there for us when we needed him. That's huge because we live in Orange County and could not make it up the mountain as often as we wanted to, so it was reassuring John would answer my calls and emails in a timely matter. The Marina Resort staff were so kind and accommodating. We felt so taken care of and appreciate them all for helping make our day so wonderful and unforgettable!! We just celebrated our 2nd year anniversary in July and are making it a tradition to revisit the gazebo, where we said our "I do's" and take pictures. The location is breath taking and I never want to leave when I revisit. The food and DJ were unreal!! Those are very important aspects of a wedding and they were on point! We also used a photo booth vender John recommended and he was amazing. So sweet and gave us a reasonable package!! The flower shop we used for the wedding that was also recommended from John, we're so sweet and so professional. Our flowers were everything I wanted and then some! They really helped pull my wedding all together and made it complete! Honestly, if you're looking to get married in the mountains, Marina Resort and Graystone Catering is your way to go!!!
