Found the restaurant on a wimp, we were hungry and this was by the bus/train station so it was just right there. The prices looked higher than the rest of the establishment nearby but it is also the only steakhouse. Hubby said we should splurged for a good meal since we had a long day on the road and it was our 1st meal in Bath so we went in. The place was crowded, but it was late in the evening (close to 9pm) that we still got a table without reservation (it was about 85% full). Service was friendly despite us looking like two bumps (we just arrived after a long 10 hours flight + a long bus ride due to road closure from Heathrow). We both ordered the rib eye and I asked if they could substitute the chips (thicker cut fries) could be substituted with a different, non fried side dish, and they obliged. Both hubby and I substituted the chips with mashed potatoes. We also got a sauce each for our steak, hubby had the bbq sauce and I had the cognac and peppercorn sauce. I was a bit skeptical since I ordered the steak well.done (I had to bc of doctor's order), hubby ordered medium rare. The reviews online weren't promising too so I was nervous. Food arrived after about 20-30 minutes, it felt. a bit slow, but I was also starving. The plate looked pretty but smaller in portion compared to Amerizan size ..I was once again nervous we would leave hungry. I had a bite of the mashed potatoes and WOW! creamy, rich, cheesy, delicious!!!! Then had a bite of the side salad that came with the steak (watercress + 3 plump cherry tomatoes) and wow it was good too! I did wish there were more salad on the plate since it was quite little and I felt like I needed more veggies. Then I tasted the sauces...the bbq was not my forte and it was definitely not as sweet and didn't taste smokey like american bbq sauce but the cognac and peppercorn sauce was soooo good!!! It tasted a bit like gravy, but richer and creamier and had more flavors. I'm usually not a sauce person but dang that was a good sauce! Lastly, I had my steak and wow!!! It didn't disappoint! The meat was tender despite it was being well done and the sauce complemented the mest soooo well!!!! Both hubby and I enjoyed our main course a lot :). And we were both satisfied and full after our main course, phewwwhhh!!! I guess though the portion did not look big, it was still filling (the mashed potatoes were rich and good portion). When we walked in and saw their menu we also spotted the dessert: Sticky toffee pudding...so we definitely had our heart set to ordering a dessert..we decided to share one ang glad we did! The portion was enough to share and boy that was one really really good dessert!!! It was a piece of cake (but not crumbly like cake and spongy but more dense than a regular cake) came with delicious caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was not overly sweet and too die for!!! Certainly a must eat if you want a dessert! Our tab (for drink we had tap water and hubby had a bottle of coke) came out to around 57 GBP, not cheap, but again it was a nicer establishment and the food was really good, so we were very happy. The service was also very friendly, they came to check on us a few times, had a little bit of small talk with a couple of the waiters too and they were very friendly. I certainly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a nicer place to eat in Bath. They had lots of beer! It's like a fancier modern pub, unfortunately I couldn't try due to my current dietary restrictions, but if you're a beer drinker, should totally have beer there..they looked good too!! read more

This is a chophouse and bar a minute from Bath Spa railway station. It's situated on the first floor adjacent to the London platform of the station but, frustratingly, there's no direct access. (Good views from that side of the bar you are a trainspotter...) There is a lift up to the bar - otherwise it is a surprisingly long staircase if, like me, you arrive with luggage. Inside it's one large room with a central bar, and the dining area is on the station side. The one major downside for me was the noise - they had piped music which meant, on a Friday night, competing with people trying to talk over the music. So it's definitely not the place for a romantic meal. At other times it may be quieter, of course. I'm vegetarian and, although the choice is limited, my starter of spiced pear salad with blue cheese and walnuts was the highlight, freshly prepared, crunchy and tasty. My main of macaroni cheese with spinach and mushrooms was all right - plenty of it - but a little stodgy, even for a dish which is meant as comfort food. My friend's dish of chicken and salad was very nice apparently - lots of chicken, too. Interestingly, having read the other reviews on here, I found the service to be pretty good - we didn't have to wait long for drinks, the food, or the bill, and our waiter was attentive. A free bottle of chilled tap water arrived before I'd even sat down, which was not bad for the post-work rush on Friday. The bill came to just under £30 a head for two courses, 2 glasses of wine, coffee and tip. So, not the place for a special meal, but fine if you want something close to the station. read more

See here... I'm a blue blooded Brit and I know first hand that we do not do a particularly good job on steaks. The Yanks have elevated steak-craft to a high art form, and I do not normally expect British establishments to come near to the quality of American grain-fed beef. However, if you have the temerity to call yourself a "Chop House" and charge 25 quid for a 200 gram Rib Eye steak, you better be able to deliver on the promise of quality. Graze, despite the arrogantly fancy menu that displays all the different cuts of beef and explains in pedantic detail the difference between medium well and medium rare... failed miserably to deliver an edible cut of beef. Let's start with the incompetence of the bar... The "bartender" (as she announced herself to be) had no concept of what a martini was. Yes, the martini is a Yankee invention, I concede. But, when I saw that there was a bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin and a bottle of dry vermouth next to each other on the display case, I tried to explain to her how to shake one up. She could not fathom it. She offered to get her manager to make one, but she never called him over. At least, my travel buddy got her Campari cocktail and it was passable. It is the only reason I've decided to give this embarrassment of an establishment a 2 star rating. Our pair of Rib Eye steak arrived and they looked significantly smaller than the 200 grams advertised. Worse, they were completely flavourless and full of gristle. This was, quite frankly, the worst cut of beef I've ever been served in years. That poor cow died in vain. The waitress serving us took 10 minutes to bring us a tiny spittle of catsup for our chips. She didn't bring the Worcestershire or mayo that we asked for. We were never offered any water. We never got a chance to contest the charges as we had to pay for the meal upfront (which should have been a huge red flag to me). We had a train to catch, so we left the small, cold, leathery blocks of cow sitting forlornly on the plates, with only the soggy chips to keep them company. A complete waste of 50 quid. read more

TL;DR - overcooked steak, didn't bring dessert when we said we had to leave for train. I've been to Graze before, in Bristol, and, despite a bad experience, thought I might give the new Bath location a try. That time I had to send back a medium-rare steak because it was medium-well (grey through 80%, some red showing in the thickest parts only). We both had squid for a starter; the squid was tender, but came with a distinctly mild aioli, in a very small pot barely half filled. It was served with half lemon in muslin (nice touch) on a wooden board: unfortunately, the board was covered with paper, which went soggy instantly any lemon was applied, resulting in squid-n-paper - not great. My main was a 10oz rib-eye, requested medium-rare: guess what? It was medium-well again. The service was friendly enough, and it wasn't particularly delayed. However, there was a fair degree of char on the bottom of the steak, and it was cut thin; which should be a hint to the manager of how to fix this for future customers. That was bad enough, but this was where the evening became unhinged. We ordered desserts, and asked for the bill at the same time, making it clear that we had to catch a train (Graze is almost on the station platform) in 25 minutes. The bill came promptly, and we paid. Unfortunately, our server (American accent) wasn't seen again! So we left without dessert, having paid for it. Food: The meat (I had a cheese burger and my friend had a Ribeye) was underwhelming. Burger was only served one way (well done) and the Ribeye was rather chewy (as my friend describes). Given it's a chophouse, meat should be the highlight of the meal. Super hungry from sight-seeing all day, we were pretty bummed. Definitely not worth £20 for the steak. Contrarily, the sweet potato gruyere mashed potatoes were fantastic!!! I wish I just ordered the side of them. Spot: Their patio had a great view of the sunset set high in the city. Great environment, decent brews, some incredible dishes....but if you like a nice big juicy steak and you are used to American quality, be warned....as a guy who nearly always gets a Rib-eye steak, I was looking forward to my 10 Oz 25 GBP entree, as was my Dad...if you rate a steak on size, quality and preparedness, my Dad's was small, chewy and overdone. Right timing of dishes , professional and very friendly stuff, good food, excellent selection of ale,lagers,wine etc. probably best in town ambiance. Just improve your main dishes menu and I will say best in town place. read more

Had been to Graze in Cirencester which I preferred, as building and atmosphere were in my opinion better, but food was still very good. Shared the charcuterie board to start, which was excellent, then sirloin for my main, was also very good, there was a little wait in between starter and main, but that wasn't an issue as it was a busy Saturday night. read more

A group of 12 of us came to eat here and we had no problem with the service, the staff were polite, helpful and attentive. Graze is well decorated and well located by the train station. The food was good and reasonably priced, it is bigger than a lot of restaurants in bath which is a nice change although the 'cosy' feel is sometimes nice. read more

We really liked Graze. We read some reviews that were tepid, which gave us pause, but we really enjoyed ourselves. The surroundings were modern and comfortable - I'll bet the patio is nice in the summer. I made changes to the menu as offered and they rolled with every one! Everyone raved about their food. My friends had steak and I had a burger. All tasty and well-prepared. Mac and cheese was really tummy. I recommend you give this restaurant a try! read more
