I've been going to grease monkey for 10 years last time I went a month ago at the oil changed and the fluid checked my paperwork shows transmission fluid level OK. My transmission failed last week when I took it in they said it was bone dry and checked for any leakage and found none! No telltale signs of leakage on my driveway! Now I'm looking at a $2000 rebuilt transmission! Thanks a lot grease monkey! read more

On 1/17 I went to the facility on N.Mulford. I asked them if they would check air in my tires. They said no, needed to come back when the weather was warmer. Great customer service!!!! Went over to facility on Ware rd and with no hesitation they gladly checked my tires. Those 2 employees on Mulford need to be educated on customer service and do their flippen job. read more

Im giving a zero star rating for the Grease Monkey located at 5409 E. State St. Rockford, Il...I have previously left a review last month for services that included a tire rotation and oil change. I have new information to add. About a week after my car was serviced on April 5th, I started hearing a weird sound coming from the left driver's side..underneath. As another week went by, the sound got louder. It was the sound of thumping, and the sound was at its worse while coasting around, normal driving, but stopped thumping when I accepted or hit the brakes. I felt unsafe driving the vehicle. So, I had my mechanic near my house take it for a drive and look at it. He found 4 or 5 lug nuts almost completely out of the front left tire, and the 3 remaining tires had loose lug nuts as well!!! Once he tightened them, the car has been working perfectly. Grease Monkey hires kids who know nothing about cars!! If me or my daughter had lost a tire while driving, it could have killed myself or my unexperienced new driver daughter!!! I would have sued the company in a second. Plz whomever reads this, DONT GO TO GREASE MONKEY!! They give slow service, I mean ..90 minutes for an oil change and tire rotation? Unacceptable!!! The ppl weren't friendly, the bathroom was a dump, and they didn't even honor the 20% discount on oil changes that was listed outside on a sign!! I came in to the location at 375 Ware Ave, Rockford, IL 61107 to speak to the (former) manager, Ben Hernandez, whom I had done business with for years to ask about the warranty on my brakes, and was told he no longer worked their. There were 3 techs standing at the open hood of 1 car in the left bay and not a single one out of the the three standing in front of me would to that. They had a dialogue between themselves about brake warranties and included a fourth who was under the car whom I assume was handling the oil drain. They didn't give me an answer and refused to look me up in the computer. They said that I had to call the (new) manager when he was in tomorrow, and they wouldn't even give me the name and/or business card of the manager, who was not on duty. Instead they where derogatory toward, confrontational, and insulting. When I demanded someone get me the contact information for the manager they told me to leave or they would call the police, I offered to dial for them. I have rarely experienced worse customer service in my 52 years on this earth. The prior manager, Ben Hernandez was stellar. I will never use Grease Monkey again. I am in charge of a team of 62 sales pros who sell direct in home retail, and who generate 1.675 million per month in gross sales. I know customer service, if any one of my employees treated a prospect or customer to way I was treated, they would not have a job. For all those "pleasant" car issues that need to be addressed First and foremost doing reviews on automotive service providers is always a challenge. People have all kinds of varying opinions, expectations, and a lot of people have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to car repairs. To summarize: if you can do it yourself, then do it yourself I come here primarily for oil changes, and they are competent with that. Someone will almost always tell you something else needs attention or needs to be done. That's just the nature of the beast and will occur at almost ANY similar establishment. I simply tell them that "I'll handle the air filter later" and that's the end of it. I've never felt a harder push, but I think its required of the staff. One note of caution: Be wary of asking them to do a service that seems a little outside of their primary service set. I asked the guys to change a belt once and the guy failed to finish it before close of business. THAT was a hassle. Fortunately they gave me a lift home and I didn't require my car right away the next day. This was NOT at the 1701 Riverside location, but I've been weary of "going outside the box" ever since. Oil changes, and other simple services? Grease Monkey is solid. Just have the fortitude to say no to their recommendations once in a while. read more

The Sandy Hollow Rd location is price gouging taking advantage of the quarantine. I took my 2010 Cadillac SUV in on 5/22/2020 for an oil changed. They charged me $106.76!!!!!!Get this he (JAF) claimed he included a $10 discount. When I question him and explaining I had never payed that much at their location...( I might as well have gone to Napeltons). I digressed. Shame on him for taking advantage of a female and AA. Went in for a trans flush and fill, board in office says $84.99.. When it comes time to pay, the price is $126.00, I asked what gives.... Oh, that price is only for the cars that have drain plugs in the trans mission pan, like Honda and Toyotam most American cars don't have one. So we have to flush using more trans fluid, instead of the normal 14 we had to use 24. My reply was why don't you make the customer aware of that prior to the service and let them decide if they wish to proceed. Extremely poor customer communication. But the worst part is, they lied. I had a new trans pan and filters put in two days before... the new pan has a drain plug!!!! Will not be back ever!!!! read more

When they did an oil change on my car, they tried to tell us that we needed to have power steering and antifreeze flushed. We didn't. I took my car to another, more honest mechanic, who said that my car definitely didn't need any of that. They were just trying to make more money. So, they're fine for an oil change but don't let them do anything else without a second opinion. read more

Usually this company has been awesome when I've gotten oil changes. But I definitely don't recommend this location at all. By this location I mean the one by the Spice Galleria. My husband and I went to get an oil change as part of our errands for the day. Normally they take about 20 minutes to do an oil change. But we waited for an hour before they even pulled our car in. They had three people working and only using two of their carports. The three people were typically congregated around one car...which made the process much slower. To be fair, there were a couple of people ahead of us. Once they finally pulled our car in they decided to open their other car port, using all three to work on vehicles. This is a great company overall, but I recommend not going to this particular location. read more

The sticker date on my windshield indicated that I needed an oil change, but the employees stated that I didn't have the miles. They topped the oil off for free and I drove away happy. Iv'e been taking my 13 year old Hyundai there for about a year, and they never have tried to sell me something unnecessary, unlike the dealership. I don't always go to a shop to get my oil changed, fluids checked but when I do, I expect people to actually do their job. I didn't examine my print out receipt when they were done assuming they were professionals I was wrong. Now looking over things I feel completely different about this place, considering the check list I got that apparently they had checked all these things and everything was fine... is far from the truth. I went into this place KNOWING I had a light out, I was never asked until I pointed it out if I wanted it changed. The service was so in and out and frankly too fast that I know not all my fluids got checked. I was also told that my air pressure was low and that's why my tire sensor was not reading right. I got brand new tires on my vehicle last fall and that shop had told me one of my sensors was out,so nice try again something I already knew about and trust me is not fixed now by simply adding air. I do not recommend this shop at all, when paying somebody to care for my truck I need to have trust in them, not rushed and overlooked. Just to add on to this jumbled mess I was never asked if I wanted to change my air filter changed, they didn't ask me what kind of oil I wanted, they sure as shit never cleaned my windows or vacuumed inside, which was also checked done. Very Disappointed! Went for an oil change and tire rotation. With a coupon and a discount for Early Bird special, I was out the door for about $40 and around 30 minutes. About 3 weeks later I had a strange noise coming from the front end of my car. Kept getting worse every day. Finally decided I needed to get this checked out. Found out the drivers side front tire lug nuts were not properly tightened! They were less than finger tight by now....A disaster waiting to happen. I will not let them or any of their other franchises work on my cars ever again! read more

The first time I went here, I was pleased. They did a brake job and threw in an oil change for free. I decided to come back again for my next oil change. I paid $90 and had to come back THREE DIFFERENT times to get things fixed. My car leaked oil like sieve after they changed the oil (no leak before) and the engine made a terrible loud clacking sound. At least a quart or two of oil now coats my driveway. After I returned, they fixed a seal that they had damaged while changing the oil filter and replaced a hose that they'd nicked with a wrench. The guy DID NOT test drive it. So, I had to back a third time because it was STILL LEAKING ALL OVER MY DRIVEWAY, and they'd left something hanging underneath. After the third INCONVENIENT trip to Grease Monkey, and a total of at least SIX HOURS sitting in their waiting room, some of that with children in tow, as I'm a single mom, I will NEVER be back. They did NOT offer to refund my money or give me any sort of compensation for my lost time , so I'm still out $90 for the crappy job they did. The kicker is, I told them right off the bat that I'm driving ALONE on a 15 hour trip this weekend, Hope I don't get stranded! Grease Monkey does not care about the safety of their customers! And they don't mind inconveniencing them, either!! read more
