Chicken was raw. The lo mein noodles tasted terrible. My friend's girlfriend got sick from eating the raw chicken.

They were serving raw chicken and now we got sick with salmonella and when we asked to talk to the manager she wouldn't even comp our meals or at least give a decent discount. The servers were also very rude and snarky; she looked right at us, saw our empty drinks and just continued doing whatever she wasn't doing. read more

Very limited selection (5 kinds) of sushi (had been made in advance and saran wrapped) and no yum yum sauce for the sushi only wasabi, sweet tea left a lot to be desired (weak and NOT sweet) served in a chipped and cracked plastic glass, (we were the 3rd table seated after opening) the food was NOT hot temp wise (barely room temp), fried foods were NOT completely cooked. But on the dessert side, they offered more of a variety than I'm used to having. Variety of fresh fruit removed from rind, a no see through jello (), and several bite size mini bunt cakes, cookies. Don't waste your time or money. Drive another 15 minutes to another town for a much better Chinese buffet. Food is soggy, not fresh, and not following COVID-19 safety guidelines for restaurants. We two couples met there for a nice get-together and that's what we got. Our waitress was prompt in every way but fortunately didn't check on us too often, so we had great conversation, great food and a great time. I'm not an epicure, gourmet, gourmand, nor a gastronome, but I trusted all the Food-4-Thought stickers on the door for all those years to say that this place clearly passed health inspections with flying colors as well as the keen eye of local TV anchor Ryan Wolf before he left the Valley to anchor in San Antonio. Restaurants with perfect health inspection reports often attracted more business after appearing on Food 4 Thought. Low performers occasionally went out of business. After Ryan Wolf left town, Valley Morning Star's Reader's Choice stickers started appearing. So many people have voted with their wallet that I trust the popularity of the restaurant as well. I didn't jump up and down over anything in particular, but I did enjoy the experience maybe due to the conversation of us four, or maybe the food, or maybe both. I did notice the old review on yelp that mentioned $6.49 for seniors, and I did notice that it's $11.49 for seniors now! We paid a dollar more as non-seniors. I've never had a bad experience here and come often, although the post-Covid requirement to wear one plastic glove at the buffet bar, and a plastic spoon for the ice cream dessert did seem a bit odd. read more

You might want to go elsewhere if you are allergic to or don't care for seafood. Cons: often very crowded and noisy and therefore not the most pleasant place to dine. The food was good overall. The food was fresh and was decent tasting. I wish that they had More of a variety of food. The only problem was there was a weird taste to the chow mein that I couldn't put my finger on and they needed more beef with the broccoli beef. I normally don't do reviews but after having a non-dinner there today I feel like I should speak up. First of about 90% if the food is ice cold including the both kinds of rice. I had finish eating some of the ribeye. I was finishing on my pork-chicken dish and start on the beef and Broccoli when I cut a piece of meat and a wire about a inch long fell out of the meat. I quit eating all together. My boyfriend spoke to a manager about the food being cold and show her the wire that I found. My boyfriend is a cook. This manage said that they used a wire brush to clean the grill. My boyfriend told what should be used instead. My boyfriend also barely ate. All we got was 10% off our ticket. read more

The wife and I read the online reviews so had high hopes for the Great China Chinese Buffet Restaurant. We were both disappointed as always with buffet food. The price was very reasonable, $6.49 for seniors, and the place was very clean. They had a great selection of Chinese & also American dishes. I tried probably 10 to 12 different selections including Fried Shrimp, Grilled Chicken, Lo Mein Noodles, Tempura Veggies, Hot & Sour Soup and many more. All were just average or a little below. Some were cold, like the Pork Ribs, but most were just kinda bland. I asked for hot tea, which normally comes with a meal, but here they charge an extra $1.50 per person for it. The tea was just barely warm so I ended up not even finishing a cup drinking my water instead. If I had known they were charging for the tea I would have sent it back and asked for hot water instead of lukewarm water, but I didn't find that out until I paid after we finished eating. Very nice atmosphere, very classy and the food always seems fresh. Amazing Lomein that no other Chinese restaurant can even come close to. Everything is delicious! Buffet places are pretty much all the same. The thing that sets them apart is how fresh the food is. This one is VERY busy (due to being near the hospital?) and so the food gets rotated very frequently. It's typically hot, fresh, mediocre flavor (ALL buffets are mediocre at best) and service is good. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars believe me I would! First time going to this place after seeing all the good reviews and let me tell you don't waste your time or money! Found not only one but TWO pieces of RAW chicken on my plate!!!! Informed our server who took it from our table and came back and apologized for an apparent new cook and said they were going to remove the chicken from the buffet. I asked the server to take my plate and did not eat a thing after obviously from being grossed out but when we went to pay and informed the front desk of our situation they said they needed to talk to the server who claims she saw me with two plates (mind you the raw chicken was on the one and only plate I got) and they needed review the cameras, they came back and asked us if we had told our waitress, which we did because she took the chicken back to the kitchen and my plate full of food. Apparently you have to TELL your server you are no longer going to be eating out of disgust in order for anything to be done! We asked to speak to a manager who was not even at the location. Ok, so here's another mystery. Great China has been open forever and is truly a contradiction. The food is not "Great" and nothing on the buffet leads me to believe that it has anything to do with "China". There may have been a time when the quality was better, however after a recent visit I felt so used and dirty from the experience that I huddled in a fetal position in the shower for 45 minutes while moaning, 'no, no, no' between sobs of despair. Truly I tell you, the food lacked any taste and the edibility of all items were questionable. There was hardly any selection and for the price paid it was nothing less than theft. I've never felt more like burning a building down for the good of humanity than I did after leaving this place that evening. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would say this: Golden Corral has a better buffet with their horse-meat mis-steak that Great China does. I am still in awe that I didn't contract dysentery and would not have been surprised if the ice cream contained fingernail clippings. Typical buffet with no concept of customer service. Unbelievable experience upon leaving. The food has no flavor, it makes one wonder if the owner, cooks and staff occasionally sit down and taste their food. A lot of chicken dishes and two or three each of fish and beef. Good assortment of veggies and half the buffet is devoted to non-Chinese child geared fast fried food. Now to my leaving experience. I grabbed two of the small almond cookies on a napkin to enjoy in the car. Put them on the counter as I was paying and was quickly told that food is not allowed to leave the restaurant. I am a single adult with two small cookies. So I slid them back to her (the cashier) shook my head and left. So instead of just letting me leave with the two little cookies, she has ensured that not only will I not come back, that I'll share this story with my family and friends. Two little cookies in front of her. I'm sure there have been others that might pack their purses with what they can though I don't know why before they get up there to pay.
