A haircut should make you feel good, not leave you depressed and frustrated. Instead, I left the salon feeling absolutely awful. I trusted them with my hair, and they completely ruined it. I called a few months ago to make an appointment for an updo and told the receptionist that my hair…read moreis fairly long and that my only requirement was that it be quick & easy to let down at the reception.  I was thinking a hair clip or barrette with few, if any, bobby pins.  She said that Tess is the only person who does updos there, and she's really, really good!  I sent my ideas to Tess as well in subsequent texts.  I arrived for my appointment with about 6 or 7 different clips and barrettes for her to choose from that I had purchased to match my gown.  She asked if I wanted the updo on top or in the back of my head.  I told her "on top".  (What's the point in an updo if you can't see it?) She never touched any of the clips I brought, and I could not see the updo AT ALL when I looked in a mirror.  She put it in the back of my head despite what I said. Since time was of the essence, I couldn't have her redo it. Additionally, she cut a couple pieces of hair that were sticking out. It took my husband a good 10 minutes to pull all the bobby pins out of my hair at the reception.  I wish I had counted them, but I'd guess there were between 20 and 30 of them. For the amount of money I was charged, I expected her to at least attempt what I had asked for.  Such a disappointment.  I'll never go there again. LISTEN TO YOUR CLIENTS!

I have had experiences where I have felt that they didn't want to do my hair. I. Thinking, is it that bad? I haven't experienced welcoming stylists there. Not friendly at all. I've asked about twists and they act like they hadn't had any availability at all for it. Not for that day or other days. It was very strange. I never had this experience anywhere else. I thought, let me give them another chance and tried a different day. They told me to wait until the lady come which I'm assuming is the owner. She had no time in her schedule either. She didn't even check a schedule to see when she would have availability. The customer service here is very poor especially walking out feeling like, what the heck? Nobody in there wants to do my hair? As a black woman with natural hair, I thoughts alone who say they specialize in natural hair, would make you feel welcome and help you embrace your transition. So glad I found a different salon that is extremely helpful in fostering healthy hair!

When finished, she also made the comment that she deliberately didn't give me the color I wanted because she was afraid it would be too vibrant... so she made a safer decision. Ummm WHAT.... She also had told me stories of similar situations with other clients and her not wanting to make anyone angry.... I left in tears and very disappointed. Would not recommend.

They will up-sell you at every turn! You are required to pay for a package as apposed to individual services. At least at the time I was there. I've lived in the LKN area for 40 years and I'm just not impressed with the "package thing". It's ridiculously overpriced and too restricting.

I showed her a picture and said I wanted to go darker with subtle highlights around my face. When it was done it was BLONDER. I immediately started saying I didn't think it looked right and it had too much of a reddish tone somehow and wasn't dark enough and she straight up just told me it looked exactly how it was supposed to and I needed to see it in different lighting. But I was telling her it didn't look right and she didn't careI felt so uncomfortable and it was so late I knew she was just rushing me out. She kept saying "don't you love it?!" Over and over and I felt so uncomfortable I just said yes and left. I tried really hard over the last few days to get used to it and like it but it's the exact opposite of what I wanted and I'm beside myself that I spent $300 for my hair to look horrible. Stylists: your clients are literally always right. Hate to break it to you but it's THEIR body. If they don't like it, no matter what the excuse, fix it. Don't argue with them. It's belittling and mean. Now I'm embarrassed to try to go back because she made me feel so bad. But felt like making sure everyone else knew my experience. UPDATE: Emily was AMAZING. She fixed my hair so perfectly and couldn't have been any nicer. I am blown away by today's experience at this salon. Management and my stylist were so kind to help fix this issue and I'm so happy with how it turned out. THANK YOU! I will definitely be going back to Emily.

The salon refused a refund but offered to have a more "experienced" stylist redo it the following week. I lost half a day and no longer have confidence in the salon's ability to provide services for my wedding party. After I asked to speak with someone above the salon manager, my calls were screened, went unanswered, or I was left on hold for extended periods. When I called from a different number, however, my calls were answered quickly. I truly did not want to leave a negative review. Making this right would have been incredibly simple with a refund for a bridal trial that their own team acknowledged was not acceptable work.

About a week after my horrible experience at Serendipity, I called Amy up and asked her to fix my hair. I LOVE my new haircut and I won't stray from Amy and the Shear Shoppe again! She does thorough consultations, listens to what you want, gives you a great head rub when she is washing your hair (a LOT of people don't do this anymore...isn't a haircut supposed to be sort of spa-like and relaxing)? Anyway, her prices are also SO reasonable. Love this place!
