The staff here is very friendly but unfortunately have no good experience in cutting hair. I brought my son in for a haircut before teacher meet on Thursday and it went terrible wrong. I told Ron I think that was his name we wanted a 2 on the sides and keep it long at the top. I usually don't bring him so I went off what my husband usually ask for. And Explained to him my son had a cowlick and he understood and could do it. When he started cutting he was going very quickly and as I was watching him he was leveling with the clippers and comb he missed the comb and buzzed a part of my sons hair at a high point but DIDN'T tell me just proceeded to cut his hair as if it didn't happen...also it was at a super high point for a two so what did he do.... Kept going higher up on his head. It all started going down hill from here he just started buzzing away another associate walked by and shook her head a the situation which at the point I asked if he was sure he was cutting it at the right length he said yeah do you want to check? When he got to the top part, I mentioned I wanted to leave it long, but enough to where it was out of his face. He started cutting away to the point where there was no return. He couldn't get it right. The back was sticking up it wasn't even and He had to ask for help. The lady came over tried to fix my son's hair, but it was too late. It was so uneven and they tried to blame it on my son's cowlick saying he had one in the back. But I've never had this problem in all his life. Absolutely unprofessional of them honestly so I just asked for them to stop cutting I paid and left and still tipped even though I felt it wasn't deserved. During pandemic, you can check in to the store online and get in line to wait. It is easy to check in. Usually the given time in the web is 10 minutes more than the actual wait time. Unless you did not show up on time and they give you spot to the next person. You just need to wait for the next turn. I have my hair cut without sideburn. The hair dresser did a good job for the to keep my hair short and not spiky. Good technique especially for the oriental hair. I got my cut within 15 minutes. Why 4 stars? Good 4 star haircut with 2 star service. I used to go to a Fantastic Sams near Bearss/Livingston for most of my haircuts. That one closed down a few years ago and this great clips in City Plaza is the closest for me. I'm a simple guy. I usually get a standard short haircut every 2 months like clockwork. Due to the FL heat, I usually never grow my hair out and to not blend in with all the Indian/Middle Eastern guys I remain clean shaven. I cant really speak about more elaborate haircuts or perms/colors/styles unfortunately. Anyhoo, my haircuts are generally good 4/5 experiences However, there are a few annoying things about GC. 1) Inevitably, during the cut, there is a product pitch for some haircut product or vitamin supplement. Ive learned to tune it out somewhat 2) There is always a throng of MEN waiting to get haircuts (few females). I guess due to the location and other factors like discounts and such. I would recommend coming early like 9 am otherwise you will be subject to 45 minute waits. Also the check in system isnt really a reservation system bc IF you arent physically there and there a customer lower in the queue than you you will get "overtaken" by the customer who is physically there. 3) The most annoying thing happened on a visit 2 months ago. The senior employee(tall, chubby brunette white lady). checked my USF student ID. She said to me," I think this is a fake ID." It has my name and picture and I show my Drivers Licence with my (you guessed it) name and picture. With a deep breath, she tells me that "just this once" she will accept the student ID for the discount. How gracious. I told her that all the other times I have got a haircut there that no one ever told me that I couldnt get the discount. I have to chuckle at some of these people. As if making a fake ID to save 4 dollars on haircuts is akin to breaking into the Pentagon. Would that other employees were so conscientious! I've been here many times. Haircuts are usually tolerable but the last one was horrendous. Stylist didn't listen to my request. Didn't pay attention to details in their registration computer. Been going here for a long time and literally have gotten 3 of the WORST haircuts in my life. Why keep going back? Convenient location but most importantly, their turnover of stylists and managers always off a fresh opportunity of getting a good haircut. Never have seen the same stylist there twice. this was about 4 months ago but I'm still very upset about this haircut. I can't remember the name of the hair dresser but it was an older woman with short gray hair she is in some of the pictures for this salon( she is the reason why this salon has so many bad reviews)She was very rude and when I showed her the picture of the haircut I wanted and I said I basically just wanted a trim, she berated me on how that haircut was no different than the one I had (no shit i intended that) and basically just yelled at me the entire time and treated me like an imbecile. I was tearing up at this point and didn't even want to continue going on with the service but after all that she said would do what I asked there was literally no reason for her to yell at me. Throughout the entire haircut she made little digs about how thick my hair was and would ask very uncomfortable questions and she questioned and made fun of the types of shampoo I used and said I shouldn't come to a salon until I get my "hair under control." She also DIDNT do what I had asked and proceeded to give me bangs instead of trimming my curtain bangs when I explicitly asked that the shortest piece of my curtain bangs to be my cheekbone and then layered down, she made the longest piece of my curtain bangs up to my cheekbones. This was the worst haircut I've ever received and I've been to this salon multiple times. Honestly this whole experience makes me now hate my hair and scared to get another haircut in fear I would get the same treatment. They do a USF discount but even if they didnt I would still make the longer drive to this location than go to the one right across the street from campus.
