I was in commercial real estate development for over 30 years. I was responsible for the…read moredevelopment and construction of several million square feet of industrial and office buildings. However, this time I was in need of a residential concrete contractor because my second story deck and porch were starting to move and were out of level because the concrete patio area underneath my deck and porch structures was cracking and heaving. My patio door would not close properly! I was concerned that the next freezing and thawing cycle over the winter would perhaps severely damage both structures. I also needed my front sidewalk either repaired or replaced because it was sunken in one spot and cracked in another. I looked on Yelp for some favorable reviews of residential concrete concrete companies. I saw that Hage Concrete Works had some excellent reviews. I knew their location because I had driven by it several times there were also several other concrete contractors to choose from however, I chose Hage to come out and give me an estimate. They also have a great warranty. Mike Hage promptly came out that week, looked at my job, and forwarded me an estimate. It was a complex job, however, their estimate was fair and detailed exactly what they would do to remedy my concrete issue. The estimate detailed specifications for the job that seemed logical. They also had quite an extensive list of previous work. They had done in my area. They were about 6 to 8 weeks out before they could start construction. I was OK with that as long as it was done before winter. I sent Mike an email and said that I would accept their proposal and forward them a check for down payment on the work. Hage hired a residential contractor by the name of New Leaf Restorations to brace up the deck and patio because the old deck posts and footings we're going to be removed by New Leaf and new footings poured below the frost line at a minimum of 5 feet deep and new posts would be installed to on the new footings to support the deck and porch. New leaf came, braced the deck and porch and removed the posts. Then the next day a Hage crew came and removed the old patio and sidewalk. The following day, the forming crew came and prepared both areas for new concrete. The day after that, the new concrete was pumped into place, trawled and leveled out. A long line was stretched from the street where the pumping machine was to my backyard in the lower level. It was quite an operation to observe. The new sidewalk was also poured and they took special care to slope it away from my house so that it would drain properly. Everything is now level again and my patio door closes properly. They took special care to clean up after themselves when the job was done into repair the damaged lawn next to the concrete with new black dirt. I was so impressed with them for taking such care and to be sure that I was a happy customer. I have to say that all the Hage employees and those of subcontractor were very skilled, professional and personable. I have had a lot of experience with construction companies and subcontractors in various fields, and I can tell the difference between a good construction company and one that does shotty work. Hage Concrete Works is a wonderful company to work with and they do excellent work! Their subcontractor is also very good. I would recommend to anybody in need of a good concrete construction company to consider Hage. They are a family owned company that have been in business since 1930. Whether it's a complicated job like mine or an easy job, I'm sure you would be very happy with the work they do and the great employees that they have doing the work.

Mike Hage replaced our asphalt driveway with an concrete one. Work went well and it looked great -…read more- for 3 years. Then started seeing popouts and mortar flaking. The 4th year it was widespread and by the 5th year it was virtually everywhere. I called Mike and he immediate blamed me for using deicers (which I've never done) and would not honor the 5-year warranty. I engaged an expert who said it was due to poor curing and finishing. After much back and forth with no satisfaction from Mike, I've chosen not to pursue the expense of a lawsuit. I don't need his attitude. Come see it or I'll send you photos.

He gave me his expert opinion on what to do with our existing concrete, as well as how it would fit into our future plans of a three season porch addition. On his way out, I asked if he happened to know any good window guys. He flipped open his phone and started dialing numbers. He and his crew were…read moreat our house when he said he would be there, which I appreciated, and got to task clearing the space, and putting in forms, etc. Glenn had some interesting ideas that were very helpful in figuring out how to design the patio. It was an odd space and he was able to "eyeball" it and recommend several options prior to getting started. Every attention to detail was given. Our patio was poured and it had a nice slope draining water away from the house with some nice flowing lines to accentuate the space. The patio has been in for several years now and it still looks terrific -- no cracks, no problems. We love it! The clean-up afterwards was done in a timely manner and everything was hauled away with no mess or fuss. Our home was left in tip-top shape! When I called Glenn the other day re another project, he was telling us he had gotten his General Contractor's License. So early June we are having him help with our kitchen and laundry room, taking out old countertops, putting in new sinks and plumbing fixtures and tiling the backsplash areas above the countertop. What I like about Glenn is he's a straight shooter. He doesn't dance around your questions and his pricing is always good. He's a very reliable, hard working guy. I trust him. He's top-notch!

AVOID! I hired them this April to replace my 25' x 35' basement floor and they failed miserably…read more They did my front yard cement last year and when I had an issue they were great, so I hired them again. BIG MISTAKE. They botched the job completely and instead of fixing it they are SUING ME. Long story short, water from the newly finished cement condensed onto the ceiling and walls and ran off the pops and crumbled the walls which flaked and chunked off. The freshly poured cement didn't stand a chance. WORSE, they didn't give the floor enough time to cure to do the last smoothing steel coat so the entire floor finish is uneven (think frosted cake) instead of the smooth, hard finish they said I should do. Did I mention large cracks that are forming all over? To TOP IT OFF, they broke my boiler which needs to be replaced at $11k and is another story altogether. Tim's reaction? Nothing should or could be done. Quote, "I hate to say it this way but it's just a basement". Said it would look better in 90 days after it fully cured. Well, I wasn't going to pay for their mistakes so he changed his tune and offered to "make it right". Offered to put a sealant on it and patch the divets (that he had just said were unfixable). I chose to wait 90 days to see how it looked and whether or not I was going to ask for part of my $5k down payment back. But, his 4 page Terms and Conditions contract is so buttoned up that he can sue after not receiving full payment within 30 days. And at my expense!

RRR was subcontracted to replace three of my basement windows with glass blocks, a task Mark…read morepredicted would take an hour and a half. After completely ghosting on multiple days when he said the installation would happen, neglecting to return texts and calls, sending two guys who brought glass blocks in the wrong size and then telling them to jerry-rig them to fit the frames by using half a cinderblock (???), firing those guys because they allegedly overbilled him for their hours that day, reluctantly ordering larger (aka more expensive) glass blocks and then rinse-repeating with the failure to show up or even get in touch on his stated install day(s), he eventually sent two guys who got the job done in a total of 6.5 hours, in between pulling an all-night shift at another project site. The main takeaways, especially if you've got a smallish project that isn't high on Mark's priority list: Mark massively overcommits himself and his crews, lies about it, is impossible to get ahold of, sends people to job sites unprepared and/or sleep deprived, and either does a pretty bad job of vetting people prior to hiring them or lies about why he fired them. Congrats to the reviewers who've had better experiences, but I'm pretty sure mine isn't a fluke. For one thing, if it had been, it wouldn't have dragged out for two months. If you've got a pretty minor masonry-related project, think twice before going with this clown, or before contracting with a larger company that's using RRR as their subcontractor.

Mark (the owner) came out to look at some foundation issues at my mother-in-law's house and spent…read moreample time assessing the sources of the problem and answering our (many!) questions. The job he performed (removing crumbling skim coating on the house's exterior foundation) was reasonably priced and the work completed in the quoted time. And he's even going to crawl into a small, creepy space under the deck to repair the foundation in a restricted area! He is also helping us address mold issues in the basement, and he pointed out a few other things around the house that we hadn't noticed. He gave us frank, no BS advice. We appreciated that and the extra time and effort he dedicated. Throughout the job he was a reliable communicator with super quick response times. We had interviewed other contractors, but he was different - genuinely helpful, very knowledgeable about the work we needed done, authentic and trustworthy, and just an overall kind person.
