We get their farmhouse white bread for our sandwiches now and this bread has much better texture (chew/bite) than most store bought brands. It also is more substantial per slice. Baked fresh daily, but it also freezes well and will last several days just sitting in the counter. At least it will last if we don't eat it all beforehand! My wife loves their scones with her morning coffee or when her lady friends gather together for tea. The Cruffins are a hybrid cinnamon roll/muffin and we probably need to cut back on this buttery, cinnamony goodness. Worth the destination trip. read more

A "must try" from their stand at the Saturday Downtown Greenville market! We are visiting Greenville and I love going to the Saturday market. There are so many choices for baked goods and pastries. This enormous croissant was buttery, flakey and so very fresh. I couldn't wait to try it, so there is a corner missing, lol. I came here to order some bread for my daughter's teacher since she requested fresh bread as a treat item for her. I ended up getting three loaves. I told the guy what I wanted and he told me to go wait in the other line to pay. It took a while to pay and when it was finally my turn she asked what I ordered and I told her. Even though they were sitting on the counter I saw her proceed to get my order on the displays. Someone stopped her and told her that my order was already ready. I've been to many Great harvest Breads from Michigan to South Carolina. This one is the only store that overbakes every loaf of bread by about 5-7 minutes. (Either this or the ovens are running too hot). It is unfortunate, because the flavor of the bread is good, but the whole crust area is dark brown, and super tough. it ruins the softness of the inside bread texture too, as it is somehow "too dried out." Even more so if this was a small business (which I thought it was). Even if it was, the prices are too steep. But it isn't, and the Asiago loaf I purchased was overcooked, and if I'm paying 9$ for a regular sized loaf of bread, I expect it to have much more generous inclusions than a sprinkle of cheese and herbs on top. Stopped in to check it out this bakery. The aroma of baked bread as you enter is Amazing! They provide lots of samples. We are a big group and they were happy to give everyone a try . You'll find things like scones in a variety of flavors, chocolate pumpkin loaf, pepperoni and cheese loaf (like pizza), pretzel wreath, seed loaves, low carb breads, non dairy choices and so many more. They have nut spreads including a peanut pecan one! We tried the cinnamon butter which was delicious. The front staff is very knowledgeable about the breads and ingredients. We found out about them when visiting Happy Cow Creamery. Happy Cow sells their pepperoni and cheese loaf. We're happy we came here. Locals are lucky to have this amazing bakery in town. DON'T FORGET THE TREATS! Following breakfast, we decide to stop by and get some treats for later. This store is about 1/4 the size of my local store so that was totally unexpected. This was not a problem because they still have enough room to do what they need to do. In our local store the samples are on a raised self-serve platter away from dirty little hands. You are able to help yourself, (with utensils), and get what you want. In this store, you will have to wait until they are available to actually serve you because they don't want your grubby little hands in the mix. Anyway, it's something to know. After sampling, I decided to purchase the pumpkin bread and my husband decided on the apple tart. I also requested a sample of the banana bread which was more of a serving but who's complaining. I love the quality baking that has become a standard with Great Harvest. The products are fresh, simple, (not overly dressed or too sweet) and delicious. They are perfect for breakfast or a snack. If you really want to get dirty, you can warm them up and add a scoop of ice cream. We both loved our treats and will return to Great Harvest again on our next visit to the city. I was stoked when I moved to Greenville and learned they had a Great Harvest Bread here! We first discovered this chain in Charlotte, and I am pleased to say that this location in Greenville did not disappoint. As others have mentioned, their parking lot is definitely bit of a nightmare. However, it's totally worth it to get some of their yummy bread. In case you didn't know, they use fresh-ground grains in all their goods, which definitely makes a difference in the taste and quality of their goods. They also use all-natural ingredients and no preservatives. They put out a menu to let you know which days they make a particular product, so you can plan a trip ahead of time if you know which one you want. If you are unfamiliar with their breads or baked goods, most of them are available for sample in the store. The sample sizes are quite generous as well! The staff here have been great and friendly as well. There is usually a person helping us indecisive people by asking if they want samples. As for prices, their breads are around $5-7 per loaf and their baked goods are around $2-3. It might be pricier than what you buy in the store, but the quality is ten times greater. My partner and I used to waste a lot of sandwich bread, but the stuff we buy here gets eaten rather quickly. This place is great! read more

This is such an impressive bakery. Feels like a true small business that has the most enthusiastic bakers. Always happy to give fresh, free samples. We brought $50 worth of bread to Columbia around Christmas time to give as gifts to different party hosts, and there was nothing but rave reviews. We actually had to make another trip up to Greenville primarily to pick up more bread from Great Harvest, because everyone wanted more of it! Insider tip: Call in your order ahead of time, at least a day or two in advance. This is the only way you can guarantee the type of bread you want will be baked and held with your name on it. Wonderful bread, great service and the prices are dead right. We just hate the parking lot and getting in and out. Obviously not their fault, but it makes it hard for us to want to keep going back because it can take 15 minutes to pull out of the lot. The Rosemary bread is a dense beauty and for $6 or so, feeds a small army. Try the cinnamon chip scone and then thank me later. The only thing I will say is that you kind of feel rushed and there is nobody saying "Have you tried this?" Now I know that is not always feasible or even expected, but a little more help up front with some descriptions on how things taste might help a little bit. Overall, you cannot go wrong. Previously, this place would have gotten four stars but they've changed their cinnamon roll recipe and now the cinnamon rolls are dry and crusty. That used to be our go-to menu item. The scones are very good and occasionally they do a blackberry cream cheese dessert that's amazing. They also sell West End Coffee so that's a plus. The pepperoni roll up and Popeye breads are some of their best menu items. I also really like that they offer low carb bread options. Also subtracting a star due to the very high prices here. We usually buy the bread at the GV Saturday Market, as we can avoid the dreaded Woodruff Rd. experience. But...there is a "back way" to get in and out--via the Hobby Lobby parking lot behind the store...so call and ask staff for the "secret" to using that route.
