I was overjoyed that they actually made cassata cake and they had tiny ones, too. I chose one of those and my husband got the Italian cake. Two items, just under $20. This place would have received (5) stars based on the Nutella Crossiant and the Magic horns. They were absolutely GOLD. Here's what wasn't great: 1. They shorted me an entire dessert but charged me for it. 2. The carrot cake looks NOTHING like pictured on their website and that's what I wanted. It looked delicious. What I got was so far from that. It was fine but like store bought basic. 3. The napoleon / diplomatico again, looks nothing like the website and was probably the worst I have ever had. Which was surprising because the crossaint and magic horns were so good. The filling was spongy instead of creamy. Almost like it was old. Not great tasting either. Excellent for Americans who have never tried fresh pastries and goodies, so for Americans it's a 4 but if you're European or Italian it's a True 2.5 compared to what you are use to there. The nutella and pistachio cornetto were very good. The filling was good for those. Presentation was 7/10. The Sfogliatelle was sad. Searching for a breakfast/coffee treat while visiting Greenville for the day, we came a cross the rave reviews of Dolce Italy. Knew immediately this is where we would stop and we couldn't be happier with our decision. Quaint little establishment with delicious authentic Italian pastries. Truly the best sfogliatelle I've ever tasted. Delicious coffee too! Very friendly staf and helpful with descriptions of choices offered. After our savory Ham & Cheese pastry, we endulged in pastries and coffee. Tried the Espresso Mocha, was fabulous... strong yet delicious! We enjoyed so much, we returned hours later before our trek back to Charlotte for a taste of gelato and a carry home tiramisu. Gelato was refreshingly perfect! I had bites of the gelato, a magic horn, profitterol, and a ricotta cannoli. Everything is very reasonably priced and you can even sit outside while enjoying your gelato or pastry. They are currently only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, but they will likely expand their hours after the summer. They have a savory pastry case as well that includes cipollina, arancini, and more. Never mind the coffee drinks and cookies?! Woof. I am still thinking of Dolce Italy days later. While I absolutely love all the Italian bakeries in town, it will be hard to go anywhere else - just because the variety and freshness is truly unmatched. So don't get all annoyed.. check their website and social media channels or call to get updated hours. I went in a Friday they open at 10 am. It's across the street from The East Ave Wegmans in the strip mall with Canaltown Coffee and Restaurante Luccano in the same strip mall. This dear reader is a tiny store front.. maybe two people inside tops as in customers.. it's that small. They make everything themselves no joke.. the focaccia, gelato, Arincini, pastries. You can order coffee drinks to have at the little table outside like the little Nonna's who were sitting there when I came in or to go. This is a family spot meaning the family is working at the shop and they make the things. Have you ever seen in Netflix "Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat" well one episode with Samrin she makes focaccia with and they way it's made is how this stuff tastes..Focaccia should be perfectly oily with that olive oil and salty and soft and easy to eat. Yea this is it.. they had just put out fresh stuff I got the olive and they had a white one with onions as well. I also picked up an Arincini ball many versions but I got the original with Arborio Rice, Cheese (usually Mozzarella but depends on the cook) a meat sauce and peas.. it was scrumptious. Just all perfectly seasoned and fried and oh my.. they also had a veggie version as well. As for Dolce (meaning sweet) I got the cream horn and the Nutella Croissant. Lordy this stuff is fabulous just.. silky smooth fillings, tasty pastry.. just yummy. They make their own gelato but I will have to come back for it... no I will be back for it and everything else! Listen I've been to most of the spots around here they are good.. seriously I've tried other places in major cities and I've been to Italy. After having traveled throughout Europe, I had yet to find any bakeries in the US that came even in the same realm of what I tasted there... until I discovered Dolce Italy. Obviously it's not the same as a bakery in Italy, but for being in the middle of Greenville, it was delicious and I was genuinely shocked to find it here. Such a sweet little family owned business. Felt very authentic and everything we have tried has been amazing. The owner's son came out to clean up the table next to us and told us some of their back story and we were just so impressed with his work ethic and pride in their family business. If this is how Italy tastes then I need to mark off Italy from my bucket list... Ok so as we come in(1 adult and 4 children) we were greeted. So we ordered pastries with rum turns out, no one said anything until older guy walked past us and looked twice at my kids, few seconds later a white girl comes up and tells me the pastries my kids are eating have rum if it's ok? Like what? Where was she at the time handing me those sweets at check out. No it's obviously not ok. P.s. white girl wasn't friendly until she had to come up and inform us that my kids are eating rum. The owner boy at cashier feels like also no customer service skills(self centered). The only nice person was a girl that brought out the coffee(I'm assuming she's Italian cuz her English wasn't much yet she the only one that made us feel welcomed) CONCLUSION:desserts were not good, not friendly customer service(I dnt knw where these reviews see "friendly") BUT coffee was delicious. I will leave 5 star review tho cuz it's new business and that's what I would want. read more
