Great Lakes is very friendly and helpful when opening an account but apparently that is just to snare you in their web. If you ever try to call the bank it is impossible. I have the number to the woman in charge and she never answers or returns calls. Same happens with the main phone by the lobby. Workers say that they are busy helping customers but i have gone in when it is vacant and used my phone right there and it dose not ring. Apparently there is a computer by their work area and it alerts them to calls but they don't see them or check messages. There are like 3 phone numbers online to call but they are useless. I called one of them and it told me i had one a life alert button and went into a promotion. Then i called another and it was some guy about stocks. Then there is one with a virtual assistant that is worthless. All in all if you want to try and conduct business over the phone with them you are out of luck..... read more

Horrible Customer Service. I had a client that tried cashing their check through GLCU but it was returned, Unable to Locate Account. When I spoke to Marlene at GLCU she did not understand that when Great Lakes ran the deposit the MICR line was read incorrectly and they would need to fix it. Nope they just wanted to blame me or the other bank where the routing number was completely wrong location. I also tried calling customer service, she was very nice but then I must have gotten the wrong email, because it was returned undeliverable. Lastly I verified with my bank and she agreed the MICR was encoded incorrectly, but she said sometimes you can't reason with people. I tried to go to bat for this customer, but unfortunately there wasn't anything I could do to help other than write another check and hope it doesn't get returned. Very Disappointed. read more

Alright, if I can do a bad review, when needed, I can do a good one as deserved as well. I had a prior negative experience at this branch. I spoke with the manager and she assisted me beyond what I asked for. I had a overdraft reversal issue and she assisted me by waiving them and then some. I'm satisfied with the turn around. I have been a member for a long time and I appreciate the fact I was able to communicate my issue and feel heard and assisted. Thank you Great Lakes! read more

After such great experiences at this bank, I was drawn away so quickly. I had a charge on my debit card that was not authorized and when I went to report it, they told me I had to file a police report to get my money back. Why would I go through so much of that trouble for $20? So, I decided to not do that and quickly closed my account. Manager there was rude and did not seem to understand the concepts of customer service. She was short, cold and miserable. Anyways, one star for this place just because of the rude manager there. It's a shame she ruined the reputation for this bank because the rest of the tellers were tolerable (one of them in particular was very nice).
