This is a large faire that you can spend a few hours in. Entertainment: There are lots of shows throughout the day which are included in the price of admission, and they ask for tips so bring cash. Theres also a fairy land area where you can interact with fairies and take photos in front of some cute backdrops. There's also a gaming area with archery and a strong man competition. Restrooms: only porta potties and some areas did not have a hand washing station. Food and beverages: Food options were good and most vendors only take cash. There was a variety of food and prices were reasonable though. However I was very disappointed that they do not serve any alcoholic beverages (no beer, no mead, no wine). Also, most of the vendors carried the same brand of bottled water which had additives in it. I wish I would've known we could bring in our own drinks because I would've brought a lot more water. Shade: there's some shaded areas but not all of it is shady, so you'll still need sunscreen. Staff: performers stay in character but food vendors are not in character. Adult admission is $25 + $5 parking, but I got a Groupon for $18. Overall, I still had a fun time and would recommend it. read more

First time coming here here. I was looking for a medeival faire to go too since I haven't been to one in over 2 years and I'm normally used to the one in Bristol Wisconsin. This one is quite a dive to get too quite near the Pennsylvania border. I love how this place is cash friendly but some places accept card. What makes this faire more different is that there's a wizard /fantasy section which to me is quite reminiscent to me and my time being an active Runescape enthusiast. There's tons of stores and things to do. This place is quite immense as well. The axel the sot show was great though I think the show should / could of went on way longer. We all know a lot of the things are over priced here but I do believe there needs to be some better developed areas that are in need of TLC like mainly around the pirate area. 2.5 because staff, vendors, and volunteers were phenomenally nice and helpful. However, this wasn't a very good venue. Website wasn't very clear, it was a messy cluttered maze, and it was overpriced. No real bathrooms just porta potties. The closest real bathroom is a 10 min drive up the road by 90. USE A REAL Bathroom before you go there. It's literally fields and woods with paths. Very hot and dusty. Wear sneakers or boots! You'll get stepped on plus it's all gravel/stones and tree roots. Middle of no where with bad cell reception. No mead hall :( mead's the only reason I went :( Got an amazing corset fitting and lesson! Like I said, vendors are amazing. read more

An amazing place to dress up, go, eat, and enjoy a multitude of different types of entertainment and products. The people are friendly and accepting, the day is filed with enthusiasm and excitement. Today we rose upon the morn! And set out across the land in our trusty carriage in search of wholesome family fun at a reasonable price. Well, my lads and lasses, we found it, just as we have in years past, at the Great Lakes medieval Faire. Greeting by a wench slinging grog we availed ourselves of the free parking and made our way through the gates! We had taken advantage of the groupon, allowing our family of 4 admittance to the fun for only $36!!! A paltry sum if I do declare so myself. The sights and smells galore were a treat. There are many shows and activities to enjoy for both children and adults. Many vendors selling various sundries abound, and there are endless food choices. We always go with a turkey legge, which for $8 pairs well with the cranberry barbecue sauce. The food is all fine, it's the experience you are after. Throw some axes (5 tosses for $5), shoot some arrows (7 arrows for $5), and watch the live jousting show. This is entertainment fit for a king! read more

Awesome time. I really like the jousting and stuff. Yes they have an elephant that many people who have not been here from different states want to complain about. I sincerely doubt the lady from California has actually been here, all she wants to do is push her agenda about aniimals and cite incorrect facts. There are more than 3 zoos in N America that have elephants, there are 3 in Ohio that have elephants, Cleveland, Akron and Cincinnati. If you are offended by elephants being used as props don't go, but don't tell me its a bad time because of it. Otherwise go have fun and enjoy pretending you are in a different time. read more

I've attended this Faire several times. If you are looking for over priced and filthy, this is for you. We took kids and the actors shouted vulgarities at them. They also had a horribly abused elephant giving rides. It was all I could do to walk past that. I just can not recommend this place. read more

We have been attending the Faire off and on for a few years, but this year we bought season passes and committed to going at least 4 times (we ended up doing 5). The site is mostly wooded and consists of paths lined with buildings and huts of all descriptions, most containing vendors who feature all kinds of products, from armor and jewelry to leather and kilts. While the overall context is the European Middle Ages, the entertainment, town characters, and vendors span centuries of history, mythology, and modern cosplay. Half the fun is watching the audience, who appear in outfits ranging from expensive armor to homemade superhero garb and everything in-between. Elf ears and fairy wings are abundant. The vibe is friendly, tolerant, and upbeat. Kids and pets are welcome, and everyone blends into one weird, happy community for a day. The music is first rate, jousting is exciting, and there are comedy and "danger" shows for all ages. The controversial animal acts are long gone. There is a bit of winking naughtiness in a few shows and one adult-only stand-up comic, but I have rarely seen a family that was not having fun. Food and drink are county fair quality and pricing, so its not gourmet or cheap, but generally satisfying. They don't sell booze, but you can bring your own and discreetly imbibe. Tipping performers and service people is appreciated and will often yield a smile or a "Huzzah!" Stay till closing for the last music jam and sing-along, which enhances the sense of community among the diverse cast and crew. It's scruffy and muddy when it rains, but the middle ages were not known for being tidy. Leave your 21st century hang-ups in the parking lot and have some fun. read more

Huzzah, ye nerd squires and bookworm maidens! I was looking through some old pictures and reminiscing about when we used to hardcore go medieval back in 2000. We bought a season pass and went every weekend. And hit a faire by Dayton twice in the fall. Yikes. Since getting burned out on it that year, we only drop in once every few years now. It's exactly what you think it is. Drama geeks and D&D folk hanging out in the woods in armor. There are overpriced food, clothing and craft vendors. There is boring entertainment like juggling, fire eating and jousting. There is a lot of unflattering muffin top and moobs on display. But i love it. These people are the anti-hambones. These guys like to wear tunics and there are girls there who dig tunics, so it all works out. It's pretty pricey considering what you actually get out of it. And it is a hella long drive from civilization. But it beats the pants(or tights) off of amusement parks, Tribe blowouts or, God forbid, a show at Blossom. Walking around in the woods drinking Guinness and chomping on a turkey leg helps you to reconnect with your inner warrior. Been going to this festival every 2-3 years for the past twenty. In the beginning it was great, with new content being added every visit and more and more critical mass of people in attendance. The music acts especially were usually indie quality, with most being professional (albeit with a limited audience) acts. This last visit this past weekend will probably be our last. First off, $90 for 3 adults and four children. In surfing the web on the way home we found some of the 'top ten' festivals in the US advertising children under 12 free and $15 tickets for adults. The crowds have disappeared. Walked right up to lunch with no line for the first time ever at 12:30 PM. Most of the shows were 1/8 to 1/4 capacity in attendance. The music acts put their hearts into it, but they are mostly local, talented amateurs. Nothing wrong with that, but given the admission price... Jousting is gone, so are any form of weapon demonstrations or staged combat. The parades are gone. Only 1-2 artisans do demonstrations anymore, and a lot of the jewelry and other items are "made in China". The crowds used to be a mix of families, twenty-somethings looking for cool events, and tourists with a mix of the 'eclectic crowd'. Pretty much all that is left is the latter. Some of the shows, advertised by their performers as 'family friendly' are downright crude and offensive once you sit in attendance. And then you have to put money in the hat as you leave, or risk the dirty look. The games section is also getting pathetic. With the small crowds the people running the events (ringing the bell with the hammer, dunk tank, etc.) are getting downright rude (to families) to get a few $. It used to be that you could maneuver through and avoid the verbal pelting, but when you are the only people in a 75 ft. radius, it is bad. No prizes (not even cheap candy) for kids if they win the events. When some parent forks over $3 for 5 tries at a game and you aren't willing to fork over a bite-size candy bar (or maybe a plastic 'medieval souvenir coin') that costs $0.20 it shows the 'cheapness' of what the faire has become. I'm no animal rights nut, and spend a lot of my free time eating tasty animals, but I don't see the point of the elephant. Not really a medieval animal to begin with. It smells. $7 gets you a three lap ride of a 20 ft. circle. If the Faire organizers realize that this might be costing them even 100 customers, it sure beats what I saw this hokey act collecting in revenue. Bad press is bad business. Hard to send it back to the wild where it belongs as it would surely get eaten. Sadly, this NE Ohio tradition is fading, and definitely on a downward spiral. read more

The event which costs approximately $22 is held in rural Ohio. The grounds are somewhat dirty and run-down. The area is filled with aggressive vendors, carnival level food and limited third rate entertainment. I particularly disliked the presence of weaponry sales booths and an apparent adult entertainment area. This is not a child friendly event. read more

Nice festival. Good food. But they still let elephants give rides at their festivals! These elephants are solitary and abused into submission in order to be so compliant to the handler. They are beaten and chained 90% of their life in these traveling zoo, festivals. Elephants are not entertainment. They love and feel. Some go insane in this environment. The venue is located about less than 1 1/2 hours from us. It was a fun event and worth the drive. It really felt like being in another world. The people are very nice (except the people assisting with parking...they were a bit rude), and they all stay in character. Wonderful atmosphere and overall it was a nice family event. The food was decently priced and had a lot of variety. It's not unusual to pay more at events and parks, so to me the prices of the food seemed ok. Talented artisans were everywhere and the music and skits were very entertaining. If you have the money, there are really beautiful arts and crafts for purchasing. The entrance fee was a bit on the high end for our family considering you had to pay for food and games and such. But I would gladly pay again since it a once a year thing. My only real complaint would the poor elephant that was confined to such a small space for the purposes of carrying people in a limited enclosure. It would be my hope that the managers of this fair discontinue this saddening display of such a gorgeous and regal creature. Let it spend it's days in a large zoo or a place with other elephants, being pampered and spoiled. It is in dire need of being pampered IMHO. read more

I've taken my family every year for at least a dozen years. It's been a good time as my kids have moved through different stages of life. In our earliest visits, they saw it as magical. As adolescents, the human powered rides and shopping won the day. As Teens, the pageantry and demonstration of medieval art and warcraft seem to be the focus. The Faerie Forest is great for the little kids, but the performers will go out of their way to give extra attention to the young ones all through the Faire. There are some bawdier shows, but they are pretty clearly marked for appropriate ages. There are several stages with rotating acts of performers including music, comedy, stunts, juggling, etc. The large arena hosts jousts and (depending on the year) demonstrations of archery and medieval weapons. The costumes are a lot of fun. The food is a great change of pace, and we've always felt welcomed. read more

We have gone the last three years. Some of the entertainment is pretty enjoyable to watch. I particularly liked some of the musicians. They have a wide variety of food. Parking is easy. I've taken four kids each time and they always have a blast. Admission for me (adult) and four kids (10-12), food, games (archery, knife throwing, axe throwing - because what Dad doesn't let their kids throw hatchets at a target), rotten tomato throwing...runs me ~$120 for the day. Its a nice family event; not too crowded usually. The venue is a little worn down in some places, and of course, there's always a few weirdos - 'hey 250 lb hairy may in a spandex fairy suit, maybe not a good look for you!" read more

I was very disappointed for what little was offered for the absorbanant $23 entry. The few performers I saw had their hands out for money...some were not even paid. Everything cost additional money. Majority of fair was little shops peddling their goods. The only performance that was wothwhile was the Chess match where they dueled for squares. Spend your money elsewhere like Midievil Times in Toronto or Midievil Fest in Fairhaven, NY where shows are exciting and worth the price. read more
