1. The owner is an amazing community orientated guy who is always trying to find ways to do good in the ways that he can. I see them around town sponsoring local non-profits and adding their drinks to support fundraising efforts. 2. The drinks are good! What a nice classy casual place. The distillery has some interesting cocktails.... We loved all we tried. Espresso martini - yum Spanish Coffee- which was a special (and the last night for the drink)- so happy to have tried it. Going to wish I could have it again. Conversation is nice here- whether at the bar or at the many tables... no one feels like you are on top of one another. Word to the wise: eat before you come here as these drinks are strong!! But in no way am I insinuating that these drinks aren't worth it because they absolutely are! Stopped before dinner and our night out to the park. They distill a lot of their alcohol if not all. I guess I assume they do it all as it's in their own bottles. We tried about 5-6 drinks total but I'm a little hazy since these drinks hit me quite quickly! Espresso martini is a must if you like coffee and vodka. Brandy old fashioned if you're a true Wisconsinite. Their brandy is incredibly smooth and delicious which I don't often say about alcohol. Service was great and answered all our questions. The whole place is large with a ton of seating and feels pretty retro! I'd love to come back! read more

I'm not a local, but my family meets in Stephen's Point every winter between Christmas and new years as.a nice group vacation. This year we came to Great Northern Distillery for drinks and enjoyed it so much we made a point to come back over the weekend. There is a tour(that we passed up, but I might come back for one), but what we came for was the bar. The bartenders were all extremely knowledgeable of the offerings, as one would hope coming from distillery tenders, but also knew their way around the drinks as well. The Spanish coffee is amazing to watch the bartender prepare and has a delightful flavor to match. The atmosphere is very cozy and warm as one would expect of any place this close to the Northwoods, plenty of spots to sit and even between your groups wasnt crowded at all. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys their liquor or cocktails. read more

After having a beer at Central Waters in Amherst, my wife and I and a couple friends decided to try some cocktails at Great Northern Distilling. We had the Old Fashioned, Sazerac, Tom Collins, Egg Nog and Spanish Coffee. All were excellent. The last two were seasonal drinks on the menu that we had to try and we were happy we did, they were phenomenal! We would definitely come back and maybe do the tour next time. Coming from Chicago, the drink prices were quite inexpensive for the quality. Also, O'so Brewery is right across the parking lot. read more

Great Northern Distilling is a gem in central Wisconsin. The Potato Vodka is flavorful and unique, showcasing the time and effort it takes to create a handcrafted spirit. The Herbalist Gin is outstanding, and makes one of the best gin & tonics I've ever had. I'm normally not a whisky kind of guy, but their Vanguard Whisky is so smooth with the perfect hint of vanilla. Also, the Opportunity Rum is a staple in our warm-weather cocktails at home. Great Northern has won several awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and I'm certain the awards will keep pouring in (see what I did there?) as more and more people discover their great lineup of spirits. read more

Central Wisconsin pride! This place is absolutely delightful, the bar uses old style Mixology. The owner, Brian, gave a tour of the distillery, and as a former chemical engineer he knows his stuff. This company is passionate about using local products and providing the community with quality, crafted spirits and cocktails. The staff was friendly and helpful. Very disappointing. My dear brother, who knows of my love of whiskey, especially bourbon, bought a bottle of Great Northern Distilling's Vanguard Whiskey. Since he lives in Plover, we were excited to try it. The packaging was very attractive and aspired to justify the nearly $40 price. The color of the contents looked right. However, when tasted, the true nature of this swill was revealed. There was no mouth feel, the characteristic pleasant coating a good whiskey leaves on your taste buds. The attractive color seemed to be little more than cleverly tinted food coloring. My suspicion is this distilled product being passed off as high quality whiskey is little more than whiskey flavored vodka. When he made this purchase my brother was told Great Northern Distilling is scheduled to be at Distill America in Madison in Feruary, 2015. If this is the sort of crap they intend to pour they will get laughed out of town. read more

I have been on a distillery tour through the Midwest and finally had the opportunity to stop in at Great Northern. My experience was matched by no others, it was truly a fantastic experience. I loved looking around there beautiful distillery almost as much as I loved their drinks. The people at Great Northern are what makes this place a one of a kind destination in the Stevens Point area. Must haves...Moscow Mule and Gin n Tonic. Trendy place for those who like a different spin on old recipes. The gin is not a piney gin but instead an herbal masterpiece. The vodka is some of the best potato vodka out there. Service is spotty but the mixologists are excellent. Make it a destination! read more

Our experience was a toss-up. The whiskey drinks were sooooo good--easily one of the best mixed drinks I've had in ages. Not sugary--great balance. We walked in just after 9PM on a Saturday night to a busy but manageable crowd. Even though there were 3 bartenders, and we stood right in front of them, we weren't acknowledged for at least 10 minutes. We didn't get service until we protested as another group walked in and were immediately granted a bartender's attention. Really not sure what is going on with the service--and the bartender who ended up grabbing our drinks seemed to be on the ball following up with us afterwards for the second round, but I was disappointed enough to come back and leave this comment. read more
