Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! Great Oaks to the rescue. I'm really surprised to see the negative reviews for Great Oaks. I hope this review will be helpful for people who are looking for an exceptional landscape company to hire, no matter the size or nature of the job. Great Oaks solved an issue for us that the original company we hired wouldn't remedy! We will call them "the other company" out of courtesy. A few years ago we had a major landscape construction project done by "the other company." It was very extensive and involved. We had paver decks and boulder retaining walls created for two backyard entrances as well as the walkout basement area and front courtyard. We also had major plantings done as well. The elevation of our backyard is high, so it required dozens of large boulders for the retaining walls that we were "supposed" to be able to hand select. Needless to say it was expensive and time consuming...it took most of the summer and most of our savings, but were certain it would be worth it. When the job was finished, we were mostly pleased with the way it looked, knowing that certain concessions need to be made with any large project. In hindsight, I wish we would have insisted on things "the other company" talked us out of. We were left feeling bullied and shorted of small things we wanted to tweak. Within the first few months after completion, now leading into winter, our paver deck started sinking and sliding down the retaining wall. We called to have it fixed and they told us to wait till spring. Mistake. By spring is was worse from the freeze and thaw but figured the worst was done now because they told us it would "settle". They came to fix it but merely reset the pavers. Still under warranty, we asked if they could fix or reinforce the retaining wall, as that was the cause of the problem. They said it would cost more! WHAT!!! We let it go, as it looked good and hoped it would be done "settling" as they called it. WRONG! The same issue, the same remedy...over two more seasons. Then the warranty was finished, we couldn't get them to even come out to see it. We considered suing them but decided to call an expert to give us advice first. This is where Great Oaks comes in. We had researched to find someone considered an expert in all aspects of Landscape, architecture, design and installation. Great Oaks kept surfacing, and they were also recommended by a few professionals in the building and construction industry that we know. They came right away to assess our problem. In fact Gary, the owner came out himself due to the nature of our inquiry. He brought one of the engineers with him and they concluded that it was in fact an issue of improper installation. The next question...how much do we have to spend to have it done properly? Gary told us that since the materials were already on site, that it would mostly be a labor cost and because they have a fleet of their own heavy equipment and machinery, that they would not have to rent them as most other companies do. He gave us an estimate for the "fix" and said it might be less if the crew gets done in less than the quote. We were surprised at how reasonable the quote was considering what the original job had cost. So we went ahead with the project. The crew that came out was amazing. They arrived early each day and even worked the weekend. They were friendly and respectful and took the time to answer questions and concerns we posed to them without attitude or annoyance. Also, they finished sooner than expected, so it cost less than what we agreed to. Gary came out to the site during the work and when the job was done, he came to make sure we were satisfied. To top it off, he brought us a "gift" to plant in the tore up area in the landscape. I can't explain how good it felt to have a company go to such great lengths to help solve our problem. I would recommend them to anyone - no matter the size of the job. They are extremely qualified in every aspect of the industry. Thanks Great Oaks!!! read more

Terrible employees to say the least. A woman wearing a Great Oaks Landscaping sweatshirt came into a local deli that I was in the other day and lets say she displayed a very negative image for her "company". I've seen the GOL employee several times over the years, as she must be a resident in the area, and usually has on some form on GOL apparel on, not only this but it says "foreman" on most of her apparel. On this particular occasion she was being vulgar, loud, rude and I detected the distinct smell of alcohol on her person. She was approached by a manger of the deli to try to curb her displeasure which made matter worse. When several customers asked her what the problem was the vulgarity and loudness continued and she even told a younger person to "mind your own fucking business". Wow. A person who supposedly holds a position of power within a company acts and addresses people like that off the clock? I shudder to think what she's like while working. She's a great person to be advertising for your company and makes you look so caring and professional. Maybe if you didn't wear your company's logo I wouldn't be inclined to now view your company and employees as drunks and potentially violent people. I would not recommend this company to anyone and am shocked that this kind of behavior is acceptable to GOL. If you must have landscaping done, any other company is a better choice. read more

I hired Great Oaks 2 years ago for our landscaping, sod and irrigation. I dealt directly with the owner for my initial consultation where he guided me through the entire design process. We had a fixed budget to work with and they made sure to stay within it and that is something rare. They ultimately ended up putting in a rock retainer wall that added a level of elegance to our house that is really nice. The reason for my review 2 years later is because they recently came back out to my house to make sure the plants and shrubs they planted were healthy and happy - They were just in the neighborhood. I've been trying to get my landscape installed at my home for the past 10 years but every time I met with a landscape architect they would give me 1 idea and it was take it or leave it. Not only did Great Oaks Landscape give me 3 design concepts at our Initial meeting!!! but they had a group of staff dedicated to my job. I definitely felt the personal attention. Every time I wanted an update they answered me right away and even laid out step by step the rest of the phases. They installed my landscape last year and now 2 of my neighbors are getting their landscape designed this year. read more

My neighbor was trying to sell his house for over 3 years and then he decided to upgrade his landscape exterior and the next month it was off the market...and it went for $15K more then his initial asking price. When I say this i realized that having an attractive landscape really does increase the value of your home drastically. My home looks amazing and even after its finished Great Oaks still calls and makes sure that im still satisfied. I spent $20K on a landscape but my property value went up over $40K. Wanted my yard re-done in the house I purchased last year. Geoff was my landscape designer and his ideas were wonderful! The staff and crew were all very efficient and courteous and did a fantastic job. I hired them to winterize the property and will do so this spring for my clean up. They would always email me when they were performing the next service and it helped me understand the process.
