The food and service were both perfect--really hit the spot! There were a few pesky flies around, but considering it's a multifunctional space, I think they're doing the best they can. I went camping here with my family over the weekend and really enjoyed it. We had our choice of campsites, as it was not very busy. It's only 40 minutes from Alamosa, and tent camping is affordable at $30/night. There are a lot of little campsites scattered among the piñon pines. Most have a fire ring built up with stones and a picnic table. There's also an insulated boxcar that has been converted into restrooms with flushing toilets and sinks with running water. You get spectacular views of the San Luis Valley, the Great Sand Dunes, and the Milky Way. GSD is a dark sky park, so this is a great destination if you love stargazing. I have a feeling we'll be back, because all the little campsites make it a perfect place for camping with friends. read more

If you're looking to experience some of the infamous sandboarding or sandsledding while visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park, this is the place to go. Only a few miles from GSDNP, Oasis rents out the boards w/ wax for $20/board, and you just have to return it by closing at the end of the day. Seeing as how we flew out to Colorado to visit the park, we were thankful to find a place that does rentals so we could take part in this activity. The entire rental process was so incredibly easy. We got there when they opened and were the only ones there. We rented two sleds and one board, and we had everything ready to go within 10 minutes. They even gave us a quick tutorial on how to properly apply the wax for best sledding. Returns were also easy. Despite them being busy with a lot of rentals when we came back, they have a separate window just for returns so we were able to walk right up and were done within a few minutes. They also have a nice gift shop with snacks and drinks. We ended up picking up some ice cream to beat the heat on our way out of the park. They also have nice, clean bathrooms - always a plus when visiting the parks. They do have an attached restaurant, but we didn't check it out during our stay. It will be your closest option for food while exploring the park, though. Overall, if you're visiting Great Sand Dunes, I'd highly recommend stopping by to rent a sandboard. It is such a fun experience that will make your stay more memorable. read more

Restaurant- food was mediocre at best, staff was more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving customers after we were seated & orders were taken. RV park- nice playground & outdoor game area (corn hole, connect 4) but lots of goatheads in that area. Nothing special but served the purpose of being very close to Great Sand Dunes NP for a couple days of exploring. They don't have online reservations so you do have to call. They have a store & sand board/sled rentals which is handy since there isn't any rentals in the NP. read more

Luckily we had read that they don't rent sand boards/ sleds in the park so we stopped here on our way in. They are located about 4 miles south of the park entrance. It was not too crowded when we arrived by 9:30am so getting the board was relatively easy. The instructions for riding and waxing were straightforward. $21 seemed reasonable for a whole day rental. Given it had rained the night before the conditions for sledding were less than optimal but we still had a few good runs. Climbing the hills of sand is truly the limiting factor. Returning the board was quick even though there was a long line of people waiting to rent a board. Overall a unique experience worth doing once! read more

Great location right on the way into Great Sand Dunes. We rented 2 sand boards for my son and his friend to use. The boards are due back by 6pm. So consider that when planning your day. We rented around 3pm and they had a lot of boards available. They give you wax for the boards to use and give detailed directions on how to apply it. I recommend you really look at the board you receive. My son's was in great shape and moved really good on the sand. His friend's board looked very worn on the bottom (pic attached)and it didn't move nearly as well. They ended up having to share my son's. Next time if they tried to give us one in bad shape again, I think I'd ask for another. I also felt like it appeared that the people we saw on the dunes with sleds moved faster than boards. In hindsight, I wished I had rented a sled and board. So they could try both. I definitely think if you snowboard it would help you sandboard. They do have some lodging and food, we did not take advantage of either of these, so I can't comment on those. read more

My bank told me my card was being linked to a new phone for purchases and two purchases totaling $1000 had already been posted. 100% sketchy. This place is truly an oasis in the middle of nowhere. It is the last stop before entering the Great Sand Dunes National Park. They had sled and sand board rentals, but come early because in peak season they go quick. Luckily, we arrived early in September and were greeted with a gazillion sleds and didn't have to sweat it. The rental included some wax. Well worth the $25.00 rental fee. The inside of the shop contained everything you could want to help with camping, as well as souvenirs. There was also a restaurant attached to it. The restaurant was full of friendly, down to Earth people. The hospitality was awesome. I ordered a patty melt with fries after spending hours at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It was delicious and hit the spot. I would definitely recommend it. I'm not sure where else there is to stop, but this place is convenient and literally on the same road as the entrance to the Great Sand Dunes National Park, so make it a stop before and after the park. read more

This is the closest private RV park near the Great Sand Dunes National Park, the only one for 30 miles. 1st tip: reservations are very helpful if you are wanting a RV spot. The spots are little close, but doable. They are all pull through spaces with easy exiting. Road up & complete site is gravel & bumpy, so please drive slow. This helps keep the dust down. Showers & restrooms were clean, plenty of hot water, & good pressure. Understand all the RVs, cabins, & camp sites use the same building. I still had no problems because I shower early in the evening. Only negative was people driving down from camps even at 11PM to shower. There is a nice small playground for kids, but no dog run/fenced area. The staff live on site which helps keep the stupidity out. The store really helps due to the 30+ Mile drive to the nearest town. No large lights outside which helps with seeing stars. Shower area has orange lights under eves to keep down light pollution. Please keep your RV outside lights off to let everyone enjoy the night skies. 2nd Tip: don't expect to check in early, they are pretty set on this. FYI: dogs must be on leash & cannot be left tied up outside. Misbehaving dogs or kids can get you removed. Only big negative is people walking through RV sites from cabins & tent sites to use facilities. There is no pathway for them. This is very annoying, causes dogs to bark, they do it late into the night, right next to picnic table, stepping over water hoses/sewer lines/electric cords. read more

I went with my daughter to the Great Sand Dunes Oasis in Mosca, Colorado. We didn't have reservations but we were still able to get an Awesome campsite for camping via tent with our dog. They have so many neat campsites on the mountain. Staff was extremely nice and helpful! Watch out for bears obviously. Thankfully we didn't have any bears come to the campground when we were there. This is a very, solidly, above-average diner located just outside the entrance of Great Sand Dunes National Park. It is probably hard to find on Yelp because few people likely have cell signal near where it's located. It has a monopoly on food for miles and miles in all directions. This place has it all. Its the closest business to the National Park and they have anything you need. Accommodations, gas, restaurant, convenience store and sandboard/sandsled rental. We ate at the restaurant and enjoyed the food. Service was good and fast. We were going to rent our sandsled from there, but it had rained pretty hard the day before and they had closed the shop stating it was too dangerous to sled after the rain. However, Kristi's in town was open and renting boards and lots of people were using them in the park just fine. We were disappointed that we didn't get to sandsled as Oasis was only rental place within 45 min. read more

DO *NOT* RENT BOARDS FROM THESE CROOKS! After spending $100 on overpriced convenience items we rented 3 sleds for the kids to use at Great Sand Dunes NP. After lugging the sleds in my youngest tried to use one on the first tiny dune and the board became delaminated making it useless and meaning we had to lug it around while the kids shared the other two. Upon returning them, I pointed out that the board didn't even work wince and asked if they could do anything to make it right. Of our way to the Sand Dunes we wanted to be very efficient, there was this store at the next town over but I noticed this in the direction between the dunes and Zapata Falls. We made the decision here and boy was it a great choice. AMBIANCE: Parking: It's kind of a create your own parking kind of deal. On a Friday afternoon, it wasn't too bad. A lot of people came and went. There's room for about 20 cars. Seating: There are a few seats to seat and observe. As for the dining area, there's room for a good 30 people ranging from pairs to groups. Feels: The place is your local stop n go shop with a lot of merchandise and a dining spot. It's a pretty spacious place with most of your needs. It can be a busy place so do plan accordingly (eating/rental). A great place for everyone of all ages. FOOD: Native American Fry-Bread (A-OK) I was craving for something with a crunch and I got it with this order. There were a good amounts of beans, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, nothing too special but definitely I enjoyed the crunch to it. The oh so Colorado famous green chile verde provided a pleasant kick to it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The servers were patient and quick. I appreciate them. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. This spot came in handy. For people on time constraints I did enjoy the location of the spot. The service was good, food was delicious, and the materials were provided. Definitely a place to go for all your needs when you're in the area. This place made my day! It's located right outside the park, about 50 ft in front of the Great Sand Dunes National Park sign. The staff were very helpful and guided me to the sand sled vs. sand board, but they do offer both! Only cost me $22 for the day, and really made the experience. I saw so many people struggling with sleds and was grateful I stopped here. Seamless drop off at the end of the day, and they have a restaurant too so I was able to grab a coffee and a chicken quesadilla for the drive home. Great place read more

Pretty much the only game in town. We were hungry, and food choices & prices didn't matter. You can order just about anything. The wait staff are friendly. There were a lot of flies inside due to being a heavy traffic area. There's also a gift shop and rental area. Prices are extremely high. We ordered a chicken fried steak and a steak, and it cost us about $80 for average portion and average tasting food. Afterward, I was sick the rest of the day, but I'm not sure why. I wouldn't return. If I went to great Sand dunes national park again, I would just pack a cooler and snacks. read more

We rented sand sleds ($20/day, has to be returned before 6 pm) and they gave good instructions and include wax disks to give the sleds good zip on the dunes. Awesome Blue Bunny ice cream bars were a treat. We also had food as takeout (they have a window to order through as the cafe and its seating is currently closed because of COVID) and the quality was fine, the staff were all wearing masks and they run your food out to the car when it's ready. We appreciated that they were only 4 miles outside the park entrance so even as we camped inside the park we didn't have to go far for the sled rental. They have gas pumps out front but one was marked as out of order and the other didn't look functional; we never saw anyone getting gas either. read more

Restaurant- Breakfasts here were good, nothing to write home about but this is the ONLY restaurant for miles and miles. We tried several breakfast dishes and all were fine. Servers were friendly and efficient and a high point of the establishment. Went here for a late lunch / early dinner. Burgers were hockey puck like and over cooked with no juices remaining. Fries were good and with red chili on top tasted even better. Bowl of chili that we poured on top was $7 but contained little to no meat, mainly just a sauce - tasty but one expects meat to be present in chili. Pie lady pies were sporadically good - lemon cream was tasty and delicious; mango peach crumble was nasty, tasteless and I would have returned it anywhere else. Beer mugs were cold and frosty, beer selection is slim pickings with zero local micro brews. The kids enjoyed the elevator music playing softly in the background. Board Rentals - $21 for the day for a sled and lots of fun. Return by 7pm to avoid a charge for an extra day. Board was in good shape and wax provided helped the boards glide down the dunes. Fun!! Being family owned and operated, they put pride in their work as well as their customer service. We stayed here two years ago and there's been a lot of changes since then. Some good some lousy. Restaurant: Food: okay. Breakfast Burrito- (was $7 two years ago, this time $13) steep jump in two years. Ordered twice on this trip. Once for dine in and once takeout. Takeout was smaller, had no meat and was same price. Omelette meal- toast burnt, hash browns and omelette greasy. Hot Roast Beef with mash- okay but didn't seem to be from scratch, white wonder bread, very salty Breakfast staff- Slow service, not very friendly and helping others that came in after us first, Dinner- nicer friendlier staff, lots of flies (I asked for a new water since a fly landed on the rim of my glass. The waitress made jokes about the fly. I didn't think it was very funny), staff holding infant while helping guests (health code?) and young child (seemed to be same person's kid) seated at a table singing loudly which was very disturbing Buser- going in and out of the kitchen was wearing a shirt that exposed half his torso (health code?) You can rent sand-boards and sand-sleds here, which is pretty cool. We enjoyed it enough to have rented them twice. Two people can easily share one; you won't feel the need to sled or board continuously! Each rental is $20 per day. The closest thing I can compare the shop to is a Stuckey's. The food is alright, it's not frills and the place is a little run down but overall its fine to eat while you're here exploring the great Sand Dunes. The ranger at the park directed us here with the promise that the pie was amazing. It was! The Oasis is a fantastic roadside diner from a different era. The inside is clean and the staff is very friendly! We shared the fry bread - it was HUGE and very filling, covered in multicolored peppers and a delicious sauce. Of course, we HAD to have pie! I had a chocolate mousse and Larry S. had the lemon. Both were excellent. The bill was laughably small and the waitress was fantastic! read more

We booked a cabin here on our road trip. We were lucky to have gotten one on such short notice. The forecast was calling for rain and we really didn't feel like setting up and breaking down camp in that. The guy at the desk was very helpful when we called and made our reservation, as was he when we arrived. The place was easy to find, as it is right outside the entrance of the Sand Dunes National Park coming from Alamosa. I was so happy we found this little piece of heaven nestled at the base of the mountains with amazing views of the dunes. I could not stop taking pictures throughout the afternoon into the evening and even into the night. It was really magnificent. We loved our little cabin so much we even booked it a second night so we could enjoy all the surrounding area had to offer. The cabin was a good size and very basic with a full sized bed and a set of twin bunk beds. It had a little table and chairs inside and windows on both end so a nice mountain breeze would blow through. There was also one electrical plug which was great for charging our camera batteries and cell phones. It had a cute little porch, a picnic table, and fire pit. The camp store sold dry wood and rented sleds/boards for you to play on the dunes. The restrooms were clean and close to the cabins, just a short walk away. The hot showers were nice as well. They even had a laundry room in case you need that. The camp store also has a restaurant attached to it. We had breakfast there one morning and it was really good. All the reviews about the green chili burrito - spot on! I love the chili, but did wish the burrito had more egg than potato in it. But they added some mushrooms and bell peppers to mine as per my request, so that made up for it. Our waitress was super nice too! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
