Great location and old school feel. Nice owner. Fairly priced and I'll stay again if I'm ever in Alamosa again

We didn't hear any traffic noise during our stay. -the room was spotless, bed was very comfortable, adequate supply of towels, toiletries. TV had cable. Air conditioning was cool after a day's hike. -breakfast was delicious. They served hot scrambled eggs, seasoned potato wedges, sliced sausages. They also had bagels with a selection of toppings, muffins, yogurt, sliced fruits, boiled eggs, assorted unpeeled fruits, waffle batter with ready to use hot griddles, oatmeal, cereals. They also have lots of dark roast, medium roast, decaf coffee, and selection of teas, juices. -service was good. Check-in was effortless, you either get your card key or you can use your phone via the app. Check-out was a breeze. The lady in charge of the dining area was very helpful. -they have a filtered water refilling station near the reception area (similar to the water bottle stations in the airports) so you can fill up before your hike. -lots of parking spaces -location is within walking distance to a Walmart so if you forgot something for your trip, you can buy it there. -location is also near gas stations and restaurants.

It does seem like the mattresses need to be turned, but otherwise, the rooms are clean and I feel safe knowing that you need a keycard to enter the main doors-including the lobby doors late at night.

The accommodations and restaurants make staying in Alamosa attractive when we're doing anything related to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The only negatives were a non-working elevator and not-kept-filled bacon bin at the buffet breakfast. No doubt the elevator situation was temporary and we just had bad timing. Odds are high we'll be back many more times, especially since you can get really good pricing when IHG is having one of their frequent flash sales.

What's worse is I came to find out the elevator was broken for at least 19 days. It's not like Alamosa is the back side of the moon -- how long does it take to fix a hotel elevator? But this hotel could have reached out in advance and notified guests -- or at least told us before we checked in (it was mentioned as an afterthought). My wife and I muddled through (even though we had to make extra trips because key cards kept deactivating) but I felt horrible for the elderly veterans that were forced to stay here (in town for an American Legion conference) many of whom were in wheelchairs, had mobility challenges or were carrying oxygen tanks. Come on IHG -- if you are going to be that inaccessible for that long, you could have notified people but I guess money matters more. I'm not going to focus on the broken jacuzzi or smelly moldy refrigerator in the room. Instead, my biggest complaint was the unsympathetic, "could-care-less" staff. I've never met people in "hospitality" who were so oblivious (or pretending to be) to the problems in the hotel and the complaints guests had. If Adams State has a hospitality course, I suggest management enroll their staff immediately. Having some empathy and pretending to care about issues like elevators that don't work, guests who may be facing challenges or other broke amenities would have been nice. This is only the second time in my adult life I've stayed in a Holiday Inn property and that gap was because the first time was horrendous (Gallup, New Mexico). As I told my wife: when given a choice next time -- anywhere but a Holiday Inn property. Skip this place and stay somewhere else with staff who are trained to care.

The air conditioner is in an alcove and it is a window unit. There is then a floor fan to push the air into the sleeping area. Forget about air conditioning in the bathroom. Everything in here is ancient and the dust is so old that whoever cleans would have to use a stiff bristle brush to get it off the stucco walls and the baseboards, so imagine the filth in the afore mentioned ancient carpet! The room smelled strongly of Febreze, makes me wonder what stench they are trying to hide. No one on the property after 9 pm and until after 3 pm the next day. Hated it.

We were pleasantly surprised by the huge water slide in the pool. Perfect for entertaining the kids while we did laundry and resupplied between national parks. Background I stayed here on Feb 2022 with family (and dogs) while enjoying a pleasure trip to the St Luis Valley area. It was winter, it was cold however the reception here was fairly warm. No restaurant, no lounge and some reminisced about a once nice water park addition and talked of the past when this was THE PLACE to book weddings and parties. Not anytime recently apparently. My review and feedback in February was to improve consistency with the rooms, work on getting junk cars gone from the parking lot, work your way out of the transient business while actively courting business travelers, vacationers and other nightly guests. So fast forward 3 months. The vehicles sitting on flats are gone from the parking lot and it was nice to see familiar and friendly faces at the front desk. Transients, loafers and those looking to be down on their luck are still hanging about. The vandalized entry doors (most are shattered) and the lack of security locks catches the eye first. Secondly still not offering so much as a stale doughnut in the morning? Some sort of breakfast is expected in the 2020s. Oh well there is coffee and a little shop offering snacks near the front desk. We can make do, the rate is favorable. Now in May 2022 "my rate" is 85% higher than 3 months earlier. This is the high season. Oh. I have 2 canines again and although not well kept the front vegetated area adjacent to the street suits them. I asked for a quiet room convenient for the pups. Upstairs, yes that's fine. Incidentally room 201 is mine for 3 days. Across the hall guess what..a nice loud family complete with overstressed mother, screaming children and a door that can only be slammed. Long-termers apparently. Quiet? Anything but. I took a few pictures. We all enjoy seeing what that guy is talking about.. Oddest? Nearly no toilet paper, wires dangling from the ceiling where a smoke detector once resided and a glaring hole in the entry where missing ceiling tile lets you see the fossilized remains of a chill water air conditioner system. A relic actually. Someone has gone and broken the back of the bed and although here to enjoy the valley it shouldn't include a mattress that also resembles a valley. Day 2. I return, no maid service, so no toilet paper for a start. I saunter down to the front desk and mention the missed housekeeping service when I asked for toilet paper. "Weekly guests receive maid service on Wednesdays". Yes, but I'm a nightly guest.. The polite young man encouraged me to read a notice on the desk that explained "Due to Covid...". Wait, what, that's over and this is a hotel, not a rooming house...and just who made this decision? Ridiculous! He doesn't know, it's the way it is though. So my mistake is now obvious. This IS a rooming house that will occasionally accommodate a nightly guest, so long as you don't mind the rules put in place for the transient folks. OK, never mind.
