I had a very uncomfortable experience here. As soon as I walked in, instead of being greeted with a simple "Welcome" or "Hi, let us know if you need anything," the first thing I was asked was, "Are you okay?" It immediately made me feel judged rather than welcomed. While I was in the fitting room, I was asked again if I was okay. I replied, "Yes, I'm just getting changed." After that, I heard someone respond, "Okay," followed by what sounded like chuckling. Whether it was directed at me or not, it made the situation feel even more uncomfortable. The whole experience left me feeling like the staff assumed I couldn't afford to shop there or that I didn't belong in the store. I can't know what they were thinking, but that's genuinely how their behavior came across to me. I left feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and unlikely to return. I hope the staff can be more mindful of how they greet and treat customers so everyone feels respected, regardless of how they look when they walk through the door. When I did leave they were very nice. But that might only be because they saw I could actually afford something. read more

I've been shopping here for 20 years. It's my go to for lingerie and swimsuits. I'm a DDD and this is the only place I trust to help me. Plus all the brands I love and are flattering for busty women. The fact that they do alterations and do everything to make you comfortable is what makes it so special. read more

I have been coming here since I was a teenager. The saleswomen always properly measure me and then together we begin to look at the large selection of brassieres and swimsuits. It's very difficult for me to find a good bra; however, GS always has a style that properly fits, looks great, and is comfortable to wear. Traditionally, I am in the dressing room, cursing, as I try on suit after suit. As if by magic, one of the saleswomen always appears and always hands me a swimsuit that I would have never selected myself. Invariably, I always try it on to be polite and then I always happily discover that the bathing suit she selected looks fantastic. read more

I had a wonderful experience today at Great Shapes! I wanted in and the friendly staff greeted me and helped me with the Bra fitting I came in for. I tried on tons of Bra's and she didn't stop helping me until I found one I loved and was comfortable. I would definitely recommend going to Great Shapes, especially if your looking for bathing suits!! HUGE selection for all ages. read more

Terrible customer service. I tried to return an item that did not fit just hours after purchasing it and was told they have a no return policy. Yet... no where in the store is there any signage with a message to customers that they have a no return policy so customers will have the appropriate expectations when they buy something. Not even an acknowledgement that there are no signs or an apology. read more

Do yourself a favor a find somewhere else to shop. The merchandise is mostly ugly and the customer service you receive is also ugly. They ignore customers upon entering to continue with whatever nonsense they're doing like eating, gossiping and if they decide to briefly help anyone they think they're doing you a favor and have done their good deed for the day. The women that work there wouldn't know good manners or good customers service if it bit them in the face. I don't know how they stay in business. read more

Horrible customer service! Walked in and three ladies were behind the counter, eating and talking about the fabulous views from their apartment etc. (One was named Barbara). Absolutely no greeting upon entering store, no one bothered to ask "can I help you". I am hard-to-fit size and I had to fend for myself. After trying on a few bathing suits, I went to the register, put down my items on the counter and walked out. Was planning to spend a sizable amount of money if I received the right help. Never returning, not recommending this business, actually going to spread the word at my pool club at how bad the service was. If the proprietor goes out of business it's no wonder why. Regret not taking a picture to show all 3 salespeople at the counter doing nothing. read more

Expecting to pay some money for a nice suit, I went here this morning. Its now 9PM and I am still fuming about the experience. We were greeted immediately by 1 of the 7 (60+) sales associates working. They had a good selection of suits but if I am going to invest 200 bucks into a bathing suit I need to be in love. My friend and I chose 4 suits each as we were aggressively followed around the store by one of the associates, she started a fitting room for us. She stood outside the dressing rooms curtains the entire time peeking through making comments which was annoying but fine. I found one suit I liked but was unsure. After feeling slightly bullied into purchasing something and both deciding we were going to continue on our shopping adventure and think about it... the woman's demeanor COMPLETELY changed. She ripped the suits out of our hands after we asked if they could hold 2 of them for a few hours with intentions of coming back. She barked "No, we are way too busy for that" (we were the only ones in there) and for the first time in the past 35 minutes, she stormed out of the dressing room in a huff. Not to see her again. Theres a reason "Long Island Princesses" went here to shop...peas in a pod. I will leave it at that. RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. read more

Went in looking for a one piece... I walk in and there's like 6 people hanging out by the register. I go up to some blond lady since she looked straight at me once I walked in the door and I tell her that I'm looking for a one piece bathing suit. She asks me what kind of one piece & I tell her I want one that hugs around my hips like those high rise one pieces with some sort of cut out on the sides & in a very snobby way she's like "it's called a monokini". She decides to walk me over to show me what a monokini looks like and I'm like okay no biggie but then she grabs like 2 options & basically was telling me that that is all she has for me & I'm thinking that they must be closing or something because I wasn't even in there for 2 minutes & she was already rushing me, basically trying to get rid of me. So I ask her what time do they close and she's like we'll we closed at 6..and I'm like oh OK I didn't realize that you guys close so early because I work till 5 and it takes me an hour to get in the area.. And she's like "Yeaaa we close at 6 so if you want to try them on you have to be quick" (way to make it seem like you really want a sale huh) soo I tell her maybe I should come back when I have time to actually look around and she's like Yea you might as well come on Sunday and rushed back to put them back. As a woman, shopping for a bathing suit is one of the most painstaking, horrid, and stressful things to shop for by far! Coming into Great Shapes, expect lots of help.. It's like having a one on one with an experienced personal shopper! Simply fabulous! These hardworking women know the nature of how all the swimwear fits, and will pick out what they know will work with your body type! Great Shapes sucks all the pain and maybe even tears out of spending hours searching high and low in department stores for bathing suits. Growing up on in the area, this was always the place to go for quality undergarments and bathing suits. 20 years ago, I was a 10 year old who needed her first real bikini and went with an older relative. Yes, the experience was jarring, but I've been going back ever since. (Although it took me a good decade to get over the shock.) The "Great Shapes" experience goes like this: You look for what you need, you enter the fitting room to try it on, close the curtain and, SWOOSH, the curtain opens as you're half-nude by an older woman. Jarring? Yes, but in the end helpful. As a 10 year old it wasn't fun, but I get it now -- only really when it comes to bathing suits. Last year I even mentioned that experience with one of the salespeople and she responded, "If you don't feel comfortable wearing the bikini inside a fitting room in front of an old lady, how are you going to feel comfortable wearing the bikini on a beach in front of hundreds of strangers?" Excellent experience at Great Shapes. It was my first time at this location. Very good selection and I was helped by two amazing sales associates. One of the ladies helped with choosing bathing suits and the other lady helped while I was in the fitting room. Amazing and safe shopping experience during COVID. Hand sanitizer was available and the sales associate also checked my temperature. There was a wonderful sale and I splurged on two suits. The quality of the suits are superb and I know they will last me years as my previous purchases have. Please visit and show some love for this local owned business. read more

I bought my daughter in for a bathing suit and the sales person was extremely push and would not let us look around. When she found a few suits to try on the kept going into the fitting room. My daughter is very self conscious of her body and didn't want her looking at her. The swim suits are nice but way overpriced. We did buy a suit out of desperation but my daughter left in tears. It was overall a pretty horrible experience and would never step foot in there again. read more

Great Shapes, Roslyn NY I was an exclusive shopper for several yrs, not for swimsuits instead for the beautiful collection of clothing. I even purchased an outfit to wear to a wedding. I knew the owner, (can't remember his name) but those who live in the area will remember him also being the first (ever) to open an Artisan bread/pastry shop. He started it all, after that, bread stores started baking different kinds of breads. He devoted his efforts more to the bread store which was also a restaurant and spent little time at Great Shapes. I admired him for his excellent one-of-a-kind clothing, he had impeccable taste in women's clothing. Prices were high but well worth it and it was a true fact, you couldn't find what he featured anywhere. I was thinking of returning to the store but after reading the reviews, attitudes of the sales personnel, I decided not to return, and with him gone, no wonder there are so many changes. I remember his face, and will probably remember his name after submitting this review. So the high rating is for what and how the store was. read more

Great Shapes was recommended to me by a co-worker and I'm so glad she sent me here. Upon entering I was greeted by Susan who became my "personal shopper ". Susan was terrific!!! I was looking for bathing suits and a new bra. She asked me about size and style and then took me on a guided tour of their almost overwhelming selection. We picked out a number of suits to get me started. She was mindful of my privacy and never came into the dressing room while I was changing but was close by to offer help. When I was in the fitting room more suits would magically appear as I rejected the ones I didn't like. And cover ups. And then on to the bras - the first one she brought me to try was perfect! I felt so pampered and left with one new bathing suit and cover up and a new bra. Great Shapes has a new customer. Thank you, Susan! read more

They have a nice selection of bathing suits/ cruise wear.....but I can't get past the pushy behavior of sales people and their insincerity. You hear them constantly complimenting EVERYONE trying on swimsuits!! Not everyone looks fabulous-but that's their go to word. read more

I went to the Great shapes in Woodbury. The 'invite I walked in, I was asked if I needed help. I said I would like to look first but that fell on deaf ears. The saleswoman kept bringing me one bathing suit after another. She became quite annoying. I then took a few me bathing suits in only to have the saleswoman come in the dressing room. Out of courtesy, they should ask if they can come in. I felt quite uncomfortable. I found the sales people quite inappropriate . The prices are quite high. When I went back to pick up my bathing suit after some alterations, they made like they never saw me before. I can honestly say, I would never go back! read more

I just went to great shapes yesterday looking for a fun and sexy one piece bathing suit. I soon as I entered, the staff was kind, helpful, and allowed me to shop around before the sales woman made suggestions. This was the first time purchasing a one piece. So I wasn't sure what I wanted or what was going to look flattering. The sales woman reminded me of an honest, sassy, grandma!! She was SO helpful. The suits she choose were perfect for my body type! My husband even loved her choices or mine!!! I felt sexy and confident. Originally, I walked in the thought to only purchase one suit. However, I fell in love with two beautiful suits. (Thanks to my sales woman.) The manager offered to give me the more expensive suit 20% off if I purchased both. He was also so kind and helpful! So how could I say no to such a deal... When I went home I tried to find the lines they carry online and was unable to locate one of my suits. I know I won't be a twin this summer at the beach! Great Shapes has a wonderful selection. You will not find the same styles at Bloomingdales or Saks. If you need assistance finding a suit for your body type, I highly recommend Great Shapes!! They know there bathing suits!!! read more

this place is unpleasant, I walked in looking for a good bra as I have a hard to find size, and within 10 seconds of coming in I was approached by a brash sales woman interrogating me. I could tell from her that she had sized me up and made some sort of judgement about me based on her preconceived notions of societal distortion. So we go to the bra section and within 10 seconds she hands me a bra to try, I could tell it wasn't my size I tried it on. I go into the fitting room and starting trying it on and literally every ten seconds this women pops her head in and oh my god it's uncomfortable and extremely invasive when a pushy sales woman barges into your room while you're top-naked possibly to make sure you don't steal the bra or damage it, and I mean I get the fact that they want to keep the merchandise pristine but there are subtler ways to do so. As I'm looking this woman polarizes between sales tactics that involves making one feel fabulous one minute then like an infidel the next minute. According to her notion she perceived me as somebody who is not in their target sales demographic and with that judgement she made her opinion very noticeable and in my opinion I think she was downgrading the reputation of the establishment for the worst. Then she proceeded to upsell the terrible bra she chose and it did not fit properly. Being in there you can see that they are merely putting up with you and their salesmanship exudes falsity. I wonder how such an unpleasant place stays in business as there are friendlier and more knowledgable places one can purchase from. read more

I went into Great Shapes on my lunch break to browse and wound up trying on a few suits off the sales rack. The sales woman who assisted me was very friendly. She even asked me if I wanted her to let me browse on my own for a bit before offering more assistance. Yes, she comes through the curtain in the dressing room, sometimes while you're standing there naked. But I joked around with her and she could tell when I needed privacy. She was very complimentary and helpful and it was a fun time for me. I found THREE awesome suits that were originally over $100 each, on sale for $39 each! (A Shoshanna, a DKNY and a RALPH LAUREN). I did not have to settle for any of the suits, I actually LOVE them, and can't wait to wear them on vacation in January! There were two other suits I really wanted but they were more money than I can afford to spend at the time, and, since I already just bought three new suits, I don't really need anymore. I highly recommend Great Shapes and look forward to shopping there in the future. read more
