Not a bad stay! We made our reservation last minute as it was the spur of the moment trip. The room was clean and welcoming just like our previous stay. I wasn't a big fan of the outdoor furniture in the room; it made it hard to enjoy our meal. The tv could have been bigger for the size of the room and the distance from the bed it was hard to get a comfortable angle to watch movies. The check in service was good! read more

Visiting Cherokee for the Labor Day weekend, I booked the Great Smokies Inn through Expedia. The staff provided friendly service. There was plenty of parking available. The hotel was in walking distance of dining and shopping venues. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the room. The bed was comfortable and the room had the amenities I needed. I was in the room much as I got out to enjoy the weather. The only issue I encountered was the outdoor chairs being used for indoor furniture (metal framed with wood slats and no cushions). Not very comfortable trying to watch the game or use my laptop. Good hotel for the price. read more

My stay this time wasn't nearly as enjoyable as two years ago. I only booked this place to sleep during a poker trip. The objective of booking a hotel during a poker trip is to sleep. Unfortunately, on this night, I got one hour of sleep. The thermostat didn't work right, which led to a lot of discomfort. Called office at 4 a.m. and they seemed bothered by it. They did nothing to compensate. Simply didn't care. Also terrible shower and tiny bar of soap. Overall, not recommended. Bay Mountain Inn and Chestnut Tree Inn are much better options. read more

Jennie was the best!!! This is our 6th year staying at GSI. The hotel is clean, quaint and feels like home. Jennie has the best personality and was very knowledgeable on area attractions and eateries. The new lounge was awesome. Love the fact I can go to the lobby in the morning, in my pjs, grab some coffee and sit on the porch in rocking chairs, while looking at the beautiful Mountain View's. Wretched musty, mildew smell. I even sprayed it with disinfectant thinking it would help, it did not. I didn't complain at first because I thought disinfectant would help or after we were there for a while airing out the room that it wouldn't be so bad. Besides that we we were only there 3 nights and I didn't want to pack up everything just to move to another room that would probably smell just as bad. It's dated but that's ok with me as long as it's clean. It was kind of clean, not impressed. Upon check out, I did mention to the receptionist at the front desk that the room smelled horrible and I was very nice about it. I told her all the staff was great. Everyone was friendly, but the room smell was horrible. She actually got an attitude with me which I was surprised by because I wasn't asking for any money back and I did compliment all of the staff. She said that I should've told them in the beginning and they would've switched me to another room and I explain to her that I have mobility issues and packing everything and unloading it into another room would've been hard for me. First and last time I'll go there, surprised that there were over 2000 reviews and this place received 4 1/2 stars.I didn't notice (after the fact) that the reviews that were low in stars were because of horrible smell in the rooms. It did have a pool and it was clean and nice and it is a good location which are some of the reasons I chose it, and the staff was friendly. So if you're OK with wretched smelling musty mildew, but a friendly staff then this is the place for you. I felt like I was probably getting mold poisoning while I was there. read more

This is not a five star hotel , but you aren't paying five star prices ! Our check in was great , very nice receptionist and answered all of our questions. The room was very clean and comfortable and even though there was a car show in town, no problems with noise. The housekeepers were super friendly and the free breakfast had quite a few options. Well, we'll see how I feel by the end of the visit. However, upon arrival it's a bit depressing and wasn't well cleaned. Issues: Hair in the toilet (?why?) Hair on the toilet seat Hair on the toilet lid Used soap in the bathtub. Shampoo and soap on the top of the toilet - who does that? Not sanitary. It has a musty smell. I didn't have any towels :/ Good things: No bed bugs. You never know in a place like this and after it looked dirty. But the sheets, pillow cases, and the mattress support are clean. We stayed at this hotel for one night and that was quite enough!! In the middle of the night (2 a m) I got up to use the bathroom and found that the bathroom door had locked and was totally not accessible Try as I might I could not get in As a diabetic, unfortunately I need to go frequently We went to the front desk and no solution was offered and we checked out and drove home 2 hours at 3 a m In the morning we called and spoke to a very rude manager named Kristy and asked for recompense None was offered, not even a discount Not having access to a bathroom in your room is certainly NOT acceptable when staying at a full price hotel. A belligerent attitude is even worse Never again for us at this place!!!! read more

I was pleasantly surprised when we checked in tired at 2:00am to find a beautiful rustic lobby with helpful staff and smiling faces. My husband and I have traveled across country and stayed at some expensive places - this by far was THE CLEANEST motel room we have Ever stayed in! (And that's saying a lot!) This is a "partner hotel" of Harrah's, so when Harrah's couldn't give us a room they gave us one here. There are very mixed reviews on sites. We were pretty pleased. We arrived late at night. The teenager behind the desk was pretty useless, I believe high, but very nice none the less. Questions weren't really answered though. From the outside it looks pretty rough... I'm not going to lie. Plus, we had to battle through a number of spider webs just to get to the room. I was scared to even open the door. I'm not sure if all rooms are like this, but I was in room 259. However, when I open the door I was shocked. It was a wonderfully renovated room. Modern furniture and an updated bathroom. Sure... there's nothing lavish. But it looks relatively new and clear... which is all I need. It's completely different from the way the outside looks. Some people complained about the beds. In my opinion this was one of the best hotel beds I've slept in. It was pretty firm, which I like. Also, the pillows were substantial, unlike most hotel pillows which are just air and as soon as you rest your head on them you are laying on the mattress. I'm not saying I would stay here over a four star hotel, but it definitely works in a pinch. P.S. They don't serve breakfast at all. You're on your own. read more

I've stayed at several hotels in Cherokee and this one is by far the most bang for your bucks! Don't let the cheaper prices fool you into thinking that it's a cheap motel because it's not. The rooms are pleasant, clean, and even comes with a mini refrigerator which is a very rare find in Cherokee rooms! They do not offer a free breakfast like a lot of other nearby hotels do but there is a Hardee's just right across the street. I will be coming back here often! read more

So we checked in to room 159 and had to call the front desk because u could not make out the WIFI password on the card because it was so blurry. The woman got mad because we ask her for it then my wife went to take a bath and the tub would not hold water so she had to call the front desk again and they got all pissed about it but they did send the maintenance man and he came to fix it . He was really nice guy . But later on the heat in the room just stopped working and it was so cold u could see your breath so once again we had to call the front office at which time they moved us to room 177 . Well we left out today around 2pm and did not get back till around 6pm and someone had been in our room and took some of our things so again we had to call the front desk . They told us to call the police department so we did . They police came out and took the report then the manager came out and told us that we had to leave the property because we called thy he police. I thank they were covering up the fact that one of there employees is a thief . The best thing that could happen to this dump of a motel would be for it to burn down . Never again will I ever make reservations to stay anywhere like that again . It made my wife and I have the worse birthday experience for her ever possible. Please pay the extra few dollars and stay somewhere nice . If u stay here you will not have a good trip I promise you read more

This was an ok hotel. The people are very nice, and the rooms are clean. The beds were kind of too close to the floor for my liking. The lamp in our room didn't work, and it doesn't really come with amenities like shampoo or conditioner, or a toothbrush (because I forgot mine, ha) I would've preferred to stay at the Harrah's Casino Hotel, if they had rooms available. read more

Bed was comfy. Clean! Paid $79 a night the week of the Trout Derby so it was a good deal. Trust me, everything is booked that week and prices were in the $150-180 a night. We didn't expect much but were quite surprised our room was nice and didn't have a funky old hotel/motel smell. 2 Pantene Shampoo bottles were left for us and house keeping stopped to ask if we needed anything else extra since we were going to stay for a couple days. Girls at the front desk were really kind to try to find us two rooms together since we came as a family. There's a whole lot of gift shops and places to eat next to and across the street. We walked everywhere because it was close by. We will be coming back! Great stay for the price. No breakfast but for the price and 1 mile from the derby it was fine with us! read more

We stayed in Room 210, the bed was literally harder than the floor. No exaggeration! The pillows seemed 10-years old. It was a terrible night. We could not sleep at all. Otherwise the room was okay. It was just a little worn around the edges but the bed ruined any hope of us enjoying this place. The front desk folks were great but couldn't make up for the bed in anyway.
