This was our third year going. We love it. It truly is massive and it has multiple bridges, lookouts, a black light maze and letters and gems to collect along the way. The owner, Mike, designs and installs the field himself with his family and is often the one out in the maze available to give guidance or encouragement (or a reminder of how to take the emergency exits to the bathroom!) Tips: - pay attention to the hours. Entry isn't available all afternoon. - you will be hiking. It's on a hill in the sun. It always takes us at least three hours if you do the full maze and you'll be warm! Wear good shoes, cool clothes and sunscreen. - you can do the hour long scenic maze if you want to see all the things without having to figure out the maze and risk spending an hour going in circles ‍ - you cannot figure out this maze by going all right or all left. The design changes every year and it's impressively large with so many routes. Things to know: - maze is most difficult in August before the corn starts drying. Looking for something you can do to stay as far away as possible from others and still have a ton of fun in the era of COVID? Look no further than this amazing corn maze. Sitting up above the tiny little town of North Danville, with incredible views of the Vermont countryside is one of the coolest (not temperature-wise!) attractions in the NEK. Mike and Dana put on one helluva spectacle every year as their creativity turns into hours of enjoyment (or frustration) hiking through one of the best maize mazes you'll ever find. Under non-COVID circumstances, this place was an absolute gem, with a kids play area and barnyard golf. A family with young-uns could spend literally hours up here and have a blast. Unfortunately, COVID has changed things a bit, but not the enjoyment of this unique treasure of the Northeast. Mike and Dana have done an amazing job setting things up right to limit exposures, provide a safe and fun environment and still challenge your brains as many of you have never been challenged before. This year, especially, is a year at the Maze I will never forget. My wife and I are both healthcare workers, just part of a huge network of people who are considered essential workers and who this country quite frankly could not have survived without this year. Our trip to Vermont was supposed to be pure vacation this year, but things changed. Thankfully, we were able to grab some respite this morning and hit the maze and keep up the annual tradition. To our pleasure and surprise, the maze this year is dedicated to us and those like us, the essential workers that kept this world turning. I hope the owners don't mind, but I shared the center portion of the maze here, not as a spoiler, but to show the truly amazing tribute they created this year. Talking with them, it was heartfelt, and it meant a lot. For those of you Great Vermont Maze rookies out there, you have a couple of options. First, you can attempt the main maze itself, with its hundreds of turns and double-backs, you better pack a daypack with plenty of water and snacks, because this isn't some simple maze you are going to solve in 45 minutes. If you have never mazed before, you may want to clear the rest of your day. For the experienced, I hear it can be done in under an hour, but there are a lot of fish tails up here (mine included.) Ideally, you are looking at 1.5-3 hours to solve. Too much time you say? Afraid you will loose your kids attention span because the corn doesn't beep or boop or have an emoticon? No worries, the Scenic Maze if for you. at a leisurely pace, we finished that route with the kids in about 20-30 minutes and there were a bunch of cool things to see along the way. I chuckled at another review when they expressed their dismay at their being no clues. Umm... its a maze. That like asking to jump on a golf cart to finish a marathon. Really? Well, for those of you who really feel you need a clue (yes, that's me with the side-look and snort right about now), the staff have graciously placed hints in the bear trap area. You just have to get there first! So shake off those COVID blues and PUT DOWN THE COVID SNACKS already. Get off the couch, get in your car and drive up to Wheelock road and get your maze on. You won't regret it. Grab some souvenirs (this year's shirt is awesome) and come more than once and help out this amazing family who have tirelessly put together this national treasure since 2000! If you are a healthcare or essential worker, get up here and check out this amazing tribute to YOU! While you are at it, pick up some grass-fed beef while you are there- much better for you than those cheese puffs that are all over your face right now. And don't forget, bring your mask! Awesome and challenging maze. And there's always the easy way out if you need to bail! It's annoying that some other mazers leave clues in the form of Xs across paths of dead ends. I went out of my way to scratch them out because it did take away from my experience (and therefore I wanted to mess up their system!). In the middle of nowhere, near Danville Vermont, is a quirky few hour activity than which you probably won't forget if you manage to find your way to it. [HINT: use their website map not your GPS] They also say they require internet reservations due to COVID but we were able to walk up the day we visited (Saturday/August). The Great Vermont Corn Maze is a HUGE corn maze that is not for of the faint of heart. Think of it as an interesting hike - through seemingly endless rows of corn with frequent breakouts into meadows overlooking the surrounding rolling hills. And don't forget the person-sized plastic figurines (dragons, mythical creatures) found around various corners and enmeshed in the maze itself. You don't get these on a regular hike. We opted for the shorter 'scenic' version which took us about 45 minutes. You get to take shortcuts through cleverly placed brown doors. The upshot is that you get to see all of the cooler stuff but without having to tromp around for several hours. It is a great option if you are in the area -- but it is a real hike of sorts. The scenic route is about 1.3 miles and if you solve it for real easily several miles with modest up/down. Come with plenty of water, hat, and sunscreen. We saw lots of kids doing this with their parents but probably not a lot of fun with truly young kids unless you have the baby backpack gear. There is an awesome playground with live goats at the end of the maze that would be perfect for the younger set. read more

So much fun! My husband, MIL, and I drove up here this past Saturday. We had so much fun. It took us 2 hours and 10 minutes to get out. We had to ask for a clue to get out of the first part. I was so impressed with the maze's design. It is very carefully thought out. Tips: Wear comfortable shoes. It's not all flat. There's a lot of dirt. Wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. There's no shade! Bring water! You can purchase water and snacks where you purchase your ticket. I bought a candy bar that I ate during the first part. There are plenty of emergency exits if you give up or need to go to the bathroom. Everyone is super nice and ready to be helpful if you need a clue! Focus! Remember where you turned so you can go in a different direction when you mess up. You'll need a strategy to get out of the maze because it's that complicated. There's a scenic maze that takes less time, if you prefer that. read more

My hubby and I drove out to Danville last week as part of our tour of the NEK for Staycation 2012 (sick critter = cancelling Maine trip and having Staycation instead). I had always wanted to go to what is touted as the best corn maze in Vermont and it did NOT disappoint! The people who run this wonderful maze were VERY friendly and we were quite impressed at how well-organized it was. They have special exits for the kids as well as emergency exits in case you have a fussy toddler, need a bathroom break, or are on the verge of corn-y mental breakdown. There were also a couple of people stationed throughout the maze, on the lookout for anyone in distress or looking for a tip to escape. We chose to forgo the tips and they respected that, calling in closer the people who wanted clues. My husband wasn't so sure about the act of walking through corn for 2 hours but even he was impressed and loved the challenge of it. It took an hour and a half for us to complete it (average is 1 1/2 - 2 hours) and seeing the aerial view of the maze afterwards was a treat. So impressive! Bring water and a snack in a backpack - you will need it! We will happily do this in future years - Gorgeous setting, lovely people, fun and challenging.... a truly great Vermont activity! read more

This is an absolutely astounding place. The amount of work they put in to make the maze is incredible. There are a lot of kid friendly activities like a mini town, farmers golf, and goats you can visit and pet. The goats each have their own little bio and name on a plaque near the entrance! The maze takes quite some time unless you get really lucky with which way you choose to go. With that in mind I would suggest you wear some comfy shoes that are good to hike in. The owners are very friendly and wait at certain spots in the maze to give you hints if you need them. The maze each year is different and they shape it to some kind of theme. At the end of the maze you get to see an aerial shot of what you just walked through. I won't ruin what the maze was this year, so you'll have to go and check it out yourself! read more

The great Vermont corn maze is the first corn maze we have actually been to in the New England territory. Go big or go home is what we always think being from Texas! The only bad thing about going here first is now I am afraid all that come behind this corn maze will be let downs in comparison!!! To say this maze is a true maze is an understatement! It was an absolute blast! The fun begins by choosing your path to start! There are three stones to find along the way and then good luck finding the exit lol. We got the stones within the hour and then got lost trying to find the exit and had a blast for another 2 hours in the maze going in circles. Well worth the visit. True artist and creative mind that makes the design every year and what's more he stands on one of the bridges and offers help or encouragement along the way. Probably the best excuse I ever had to travel East of Montpelier (DISCLAIMER: I am a total flatlander so bear with me). Although it changes annually, I'd like to avoid spoilers here. I'll only say that as you wander through the path, randomly or planned (or maybe even while using one of those "cheat sheet" postcards they sell at the store), it's a great way to get a nice view of a fairly hilly terrain that offers some beautiful scenery. Great way to travel and when you're done ringing that bell of victory (that's the only spoiler you're getting from me!), you can relax savoring one of the most picturesque scenes you could get around here (REMINDER: total flatlander) before walking around goats and chickens. Only thing that took me off guard was the surprising lack of VT-themed things. They sell popcorn, sodas, and candy but not much beyond that; no artisanal sandwiches, no fresh-squeezed lemonade, maple-themed goods or the like. There was a stand selling jams and jellies, though. Personally? After a long walk for a few hours (or if you're like me, a couple), they might get good business if they convince someone to set up a grill and sell hamburgers and hot dogs to enjoy while taking in the scenery. It was so much fun! Came here on a trip to Vermont last summer - last minute decision and it was really worth it! It's the first time any of us have been to a corn maze, there is really no easy way out or cheat because the corn stalks are above your heads. The fun comes from being confused and trying to devise strategies with your friends to explore all paths and marking places where you've been. The official guides, who are standing above your heads at each segment of the maze, gives your current approximate location (e.g. 3/4 through the maze), cheers you on and gives you hints if you ask for them. We are handed punch cards at the beginning of the maze, and at each punch station (throughout the maze), you get a shape punched on the card. Once we are out of the maze, the punch card can be compared to a map in their store to see the routes you took (and retook). It's a great way to have fun, exercise (a lot), and test your patience/strategy. read more

We found out about this place through a FB post and took the 1.5 hour drive from our home to check it out on a mutual day off, man was it worth the drive. So much fun, the staff was super friendly and the maze was simply amazing, it was my first time at a corn maze and this place did not disappoint - very challenging, the size of this place can not be described here it is simply gigantic. They have punch stations throughout the maze that gives you an idea of where you were when you get out and look at the map..so much fun - a word of caution, bring comfortable shoes, it is hilly and a long walk, and wear comfortable clothes and bring your A game patience this is not for everyone. read more

Pros: During foliage, the drive through country roads is spectacular. The 16 acre corn maze will keep adults busy for hours; rated top 10 mazes in the USA. If you want to kill a day or two with friends and or family you should totally come here! The mazes are amazing and quite challenging. You'll never know what to expect inside the maze itself it all depends on the theme. Last year there were dinosaurs hidden in the maze! There are mini mazes and other activities too. Make sure to pack sun screen and plenty of water/snacks if you don't ,take one of the exits and grab some at their convenient shop and head right back into the fray. Our best time was 2 hrs in the main maze. They also have barn golf and a little petting zoo. It's a great place for all ages so long as you can walk up and down hilly fields. Check it out around October too for a wicked spooky experience. The people here are friendly and it's a great way to have some fun and get some good exercise. To navigate you can use your punch card given at the beginning of your journey. You'll have to find the hole punches in the maze to help figure out where you are. There are guides to help inside if you have emergencies or need a hint. In one of the buildings they also have the current map of the maze and you can check how close or far you were from finding the end of the maze while you were wandering around. Use this to your advantage and challenge your friends they will be amazed when you beat the maze hours before them. read more

Maybe it's better if you have children, but my boyfriend and I felt it was only ok. We thought there were going to be clues along the way, I thought it would be fun if you had to solve riddles to know which way to go. It's really just wandering around a corn maze, which is fun for the first 30 min. There are beautiful views from the raised walkways and the goats are super cute, though they literally appeared sedated. read more

Despite of what their business website said, the GPS was able to locate the place but it took a more "direct" route, which also meant a longer route since we had to drive slowly on an unpaved road to get there. Following the directions on their site would probably have been a better idea. Besides that, the corn maze was actually pretty fun (but frustrating at times). Having never been to a maze before, I thought, how hard can it be? I'm glad there were guides scattered around who gave us clues when asked and were really friendly. We were probably lost as soon as we entered the maze. There were no maps of the place, but I guess that was the point of it, until after we were done with the maze. We finally got the hang of it (while still getting lost of course!) a little more than an hour into the maze. We were probably the slowest people and finish in a little less than 3 hours. Boy was I glad that we grabbed water and sun screen! It was a lot of walking. When we finally got out, I rang the heck out of the "i made it" bell!!! If I ever go through a corn maze again, I think I would be better prepared. The plan of attack would be to eliminate paths instead of trying to find "the route" and going with a group of people is very helpful. read more

We just went last night for Dead North - a halloween special at night that they only offer two weekends in October. Walking through the maze in pitch darkness -anxious because you just knew someone was going to jump out and scare you - freaking out at the wind blowing the corn - is an excellent recipe for a scary and fun time. We had such a blast. This specific event is tailored so you can't get lost in the maze. You can only go one path. In my opinion, if we walked through this maze on our own in the dark in silence it would have been far scarier. However, the whole purpose is to have a haunted fun time and it works. We are definitely going to go again on another night where we can do that. It's a great experience and it's definitely worth checking out anytime of day and any weekend. I do advise that if you choose to do Dead North -be mindful of bringing kids. It can definitely be a bit much for kids. And if you cannot stand the idea of people jumping out at you (and sometimes even chasing you!) - then avoid this. read more
