This is one of my favorite Chinese supermarkets in the area because of the parking upstairs (need to get validation at checkout for free parking). It's generally empty midday during the week. The fruits and vegetables are plentiful and sales change weekly. The butchers and fishmongers are friendly. The aisles are spacious. This is my family's go to Asian supermarket. Prices may be a tad bit pricier than supermarkets in Flushing (Main St area) but worth it given the ample (and free!) parking on the roof and not as crowded when doing your actual shopping. Produce wise, they have an abundance of veggies and herbs. Fruit selection is not as varied as you would find in Flushing and I find berries are always pricier here - but if you're in a pinch, it'll do. I love their seafood section - we always get their branzino or sea bass and they do a great job deboning and cleaning it out for us so it's prepped and ready for cooking when we get home. Their freezer sections has your classic American frozen foods and also a myriad of Asian ice creams (like melons, mochi ice cream), frozen dim sums and baos, thinly sliced hot pot/bbq meat, and frozen Thai spring roll wrappers if you choose to make your own spring rolls. The refrigerated section have ready to cook Korean noodle dishes, ramen, and even seitan (for all the vegetarians out there!). Surprised that it's not busy on a Saturday (all Asians know the sales only take place on the weekends). I haven't been here for years since there are many Chinese supermarkets near me. If you're in this part of Queens and are introverted or don't want deal with the crowdedness and loudness of Flushing then you've come to the right place. The prices are OK but I think you might be able to find some items cheaper elsewhere. My favorite part is the parking though. I had a tough time trying to find their parking since it has been years. It's located right next to Chase Bank on a different street. Parking is free for 2 hours as long as you spend a minimum of $10 inside GW!! All the other places I've been to is at least $35-$75 for free parking. 4 stars for convenience (right off of I-495), relaxed and clean shopping environment, and parking. read more

GW supermarket is one of our favorite Chinese supermarkets in the neighborhood since the decor is clean, bright and wide-spaced. It was not crowded at all and there was no lines even on a weekend. The protection of flattening the COVID-19 curve was great and all the staff wore masks, gloves and overalls. The redemption of parking fee used to be waived by a paying machine but the staff would help customers waive when checking out at the counter. read more

Written a few months ago and just realized I haven't posted it. **Blocks face** Curiosity brought me here (I like Asian supermarkets) but their affordable microwavable dinners, quick rice and dumplings keeps me coming back. Mind you, prices on other items seem to be way over the top, at least a lot more than other supermarkets in this Lefrak City area. Shopping here is a bit different. I've hardly ever seen anyone doing much talking (except children), folks just float in and out of aisles as though on hoverboards. I've never seen it crowded either and for a supermarket this size I wonder..... I don't see a lot of tipping at supermarkets but according to signs posted, it isn't allowed here. There is validated parking. I've made a friend here. We bow and (make up) sign language a lot as we don't speak each other's language. Haha. Only him and the Hispanic cashier seems friendly. Hispanic, of course Asian as well as American foods available. Many many many isles of snacks. Seafood galore. Dumplings of all varieties. And everything else. Including toiletries and kitchen utensils. Oh, there's a pharmacy section at the front AFTER you've paid for your groceries. The toilet is the worst I've seen. There's one that's blocked off that hasn't been cleaned I do believe (from my recollection) for months. I don't know why. I've only used the one next to it when I absolutely almost peed myself. Twice. I try not to look down at the other side. It takes me a while to get back to choosing FOOD after I'm done using that toilet. GW, please see about that. **Shudders** Back to my snacks. On the same block as Lefrak City. Did I mention free parking? One of the cleaner, nicer looking asian supermarkets with an extra high ceiling. This place is huge with nice wide aisles, not blocked by cardboard boxes everywhere like some other places. They also have a large meat and fish counter, which I can't comment on because I haven't tried either yet. Some yelpers have complained about a smell in this store. I have not come across that problem. It's nice coming here because it's so clean and organized. I like it. I come here for fresh vegetables and packaged goods (huge variety of teas, sauces and snacks). I get my red bean gallon sized ice cream from here. The produce is relatively fresh and there's a large variety to choose from. They even sell tomatillos. I make a sauce with it. Vegetable prices are reasonable. This is the only asian market that I've seen that sells frozen wild shrimp. Most other places sell farm raised. Check their flyer for extra discounts on products. With this place, no need to go into Flushing and fight the crazy crowds. Bonus: On the roof, there is free parking with any $10 purchase. Just ask the cashier, and after your purchase, they will print out a free parking pass for you. The parking entrance is on 57th avenue. Just drive up the ramp. read more

Just had a real bad experience with GW market, cashier refuse to bag my purchases, even when my recycling bag was given to them for bagging my purchases, and I asked nicely .."Can you please bag my stuff, cashier said no and ignored my request and continue serving other customer. I had to ask for a full refund and manager agree with the cashier that we do not pack customer purchases. Take your money and go elsewhere, I will never go back to any GW supermarket. My advice is if you want your purchases to be bagged by the serving employees ...don't shop there. And if you do, don't pay until they pack your purchases...to avoid waiting for refund. A true disappointment in customer service and employee was so rude too!! read more

My favorite Chinese market in the queens area. Available parking, nice and open, not crowded and food is fresh. Even when I go late, I can find decent vegetables to pick up. I purchased a packed insecticide (Combat roach killer Max gel tube), which turned out to be expired for more than a year. Believe it or not, even just to purchase what I thought I would want was a massive struggle with the crooks here due to a lot of negative traits of them such as: their confusing price tagging, inconsistent shelf stickers, those cashiers' limited linguistic skills, their outright rudeness, shadiness, furtive overpricing. These seemed not justified only but rather encouraged (?) in their insular Chinese language circuit and their culture. The last time I checked, however, this is still the U.S. and it is definitely not good practice to begin with, let alone extremely disadvantageous for them to win over general clienteles if they cared. The worst was yet to come on my end, though. Since I could see no efficacy of the product even after the product's application, I called the Combat's manufacturer Henkel's hotline to check its expiration date and further information. As it turned out, it had been expired for more than A YEAR. It was a good thing that the company offered compensation for the sorry state of affairs this time instead of me having to go back to to GW to straighten their croockery, which was apparently a tall order. I surely reported the f*&k out of this business, for which Henkel called 'a intolerable violator.' From this occasion, I at least learned 1) GW is no site you'd want to do business with, or conduct your shopping, without looking over your shoulder, checking every single transaction, high alert, having to fend off their uncivil and unlawful business practice 2) you could to educate yourself with where to locate and how to read the products' code number, Hankel's way, which indicates its manufacture info, and its derived expiration date in order to prevent problems as this in future. Who has such luxury of time, anyway? I was not keen on this shopping but just to for 'one stop shopping's sake this time, which I could not kick myself for more. You could just save your money, energy and time by simply 'KEEPING AWAY. If they meant to serve Chinese customers, let them operate that way. Me? Goodbye to all that. read more

I have been to this business over the course of time. This type of Asian, or Chinese to be specific, supermarkets are certainly heavy in the neighboring area, Elmhurst, or absolutely in Flushing but never in LeFrak city or Corona. So it was a breath of fresh air when their branch off took place in some time ago and it has been really a while. As I observed, although this is a spacious store, it is never crowded. This was a plus when you would avoid snaking lines in lanes and who wouldn't? I was, however, hardly using this business mostly because their customer service seemingly same as non-existent and the staff's non or quasi non communicable manner of service soared in my past experiences until I swore off one day. This was after a few occasions when I had to bring purchased items back to ask for return or exchange with receipts and legitimate reasons to ask for it. Most of the time, it was about their pricing errors and overcharge or expired items sold with no caution nor recognition of it on their end. The last straw was when those two happened at once: an item that I had to inquire on their overcharge shifting into an epic of the irate middle aged woman's abusive behavior toward me. Once I came home, the product expired for unacceptably long time. What a shame. Despite that my patronage was infrequent, the frequency that I ran into trouble with them as such seemed uncannily high. What is it to say? It is saying out loud that their business practice no good. And meh me thinks not. The worst of all was always their cashiers' frantic struggle to fight off anyone when they tried to bring any recourse. Would it be any different if disputing clients were Chinese or Chinese speakers? This sort of behavior would not go too far, though, given this is, you know, America. read more

Make sure you wear a coat or a jacket when you come shopping at Great Wall Supermarket. The Meat/Seafood section as well as all other areas with a freezer is so cold. Brrr... Even the staff who works in these areas are with a jacket or coat. Look at the circular for sale items. Always remember to check expiration dates on products. This is very typical of Asian supermarkets to sell items that are close to expiration date. Amazing, no fishy smell and the aisle are clean with no water all over the floor. Bought a pound of medium size shrimp. Saw a whole tub of Squid. Too much work to clean, too hot to fry and make Frito Squid Today.Tip go early when there is no one around. Best time to shop and you can park any where you want in the lot before the mad rush. Saw aisle of Italian, Turkish, Greek, Polish treats. Near bread area is the Mexican cookies, etc... Got some Chocolate Croissants made from Italy. No need to run all the way to Manhattan to Ferrara Bakery. Although, I would love a Cappuccino right now and Tiramisu. Anyways, back to the review. There is free parking. If you are on Horace Harding Blvd heading toward Junction Blvd make a right on 99th street. You will see at corner that GW etched on the glass. Drive down the street and make a left onto 57th Avenue and will see parking on left hand side after turn that say Welcome to Lefrak..., drive up ramp and park. We used to drive far and wide and settled on 2 asian markets we shop frequently. This is one- easy to get to , easy parking and well a wonderful selection of varying freshness of produce. It would be impossible that the veggies and fruits are all fresh the same time due to their huge selection but none are bad- some you have to let stay on the counter a few days and others are ready for dinner tonight! Frozen foods are in abundance mixture of various asian ethnic goods- yes filipino goods there). We just love it because we get bags full and come out pretty great on the price so that is really helping now. read more

Our favorite local Asian supermarket. They are extremely clean and organized and their inventory is always stocked and refreshed from produce to seafood to meats. They have free 2 hour parking with $10 purchases but that is pretty easy to reach with all the good stuff they have there. The only minor issue I see are the workers are not too friendly, can't really help you too well because many of them dont speak English, and they are not too friendly. On 2/17/21, I bought from Great Wall Supermarket two bags of the Green Hometown lotus root products. One is in the shape of fries. The other is the Lotus Root Cake, in the shape of 2 inch discs. These are from the frozen section. When I opened the first bag the fries, each piece was with much frost. So I checked the expiration on bag, It said 18 months on back and " Pass 2019/10/21" computer printed on front. I opened the second bag "the Lotus Root Cake" and in it found blocks of ice broke apart, and the cakes frozen in a block of ice. Same expiration info appeared on this bag as the first. It's quiet, very clean and organized. Prices are mostly reasonable and the fruit is very fresh. They have all the asian products I need without the hassle of Flushing super markets read more

Compared to most large scale Asian marts I've been in, this is the St Regis standard of hygiene. CLEANEST CHINESE SUPERMARKET I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! I walked in expecting your typical chinese supermarket but boy oh boy! I was impressed by how clean this supermarket is compared to all the typical grocery stores I've been to. The floors looked very new, there was not a single fly in the entire store and there was no stench of seafood around your vegetable area. Impressed impressed impressed! Employees spoke both English and Chinese (and I think also Spanish) to accommodate customers of all ethnic backgrounds. Really helpful for the neighborhood it's located in. Pricing is decent - definitely reasonable. Snacks that you typically have to drive elsewhere to find are found here - amazing! Cute dinnerware, friendly customers, large space. I was able to walk in, stroll comfortably, pick up all I needed to make my dinner and walk less than 10 min home. For all the drivers... FREE PARKING if you spend over $10! According to UrbanDictionary.com, "sheisty" means scandalous, stingy, one that does evil things and is two faced, and is sneaky sneaky! And sheisty is what GW Supermarket apparently may be after today's observation. I have to admit, I had been somewhat of a fan of this supermarket since it opened. Free parking and aplenty? Good sales and great everyday prices? What's not to like? Since this supermarket is fairly new, everything appears clean and is still well maintained. No fishy smells here! You can find American and Chinese goods alike which is perfect for a Chinese-American gal like myself who is in touch with both of my cultures. I do find that some more "American" products like cooking oil and canned tuna fish can be slightly more pricey here than at your local Stop and Shop. While you can basically find what you need here 95% of the time, there definitely is a somewhat smaller selection in products here compared to other even larger Chinese supermarkets. For example: I can't find my favorite Chinese sausage brand "Kam Yen Jan" here! Plus there is also limited Vita boxed drinks flavors to choose from. I mean, nothing serious but nonetheless a slight disappointment. Sad face. Anyway, so here is the thing. Today I did my usual weekly food shopping when I remembered that I had to stock up on some Thai chili sauce since I was running low. I saw a buy one get one free sign, so basically I'm paying only 33% of what a normal bottle costs! Wow, what a deal I thought. My thought was that maybe it is about to expire so I look for an expiration date on the bottle. I couldn't find one, but I wasn't exactly thrown off because many Chinese products does not necessarily have one stamped (gross, I know...). Finally after I was about to go in line to pay, I picked up the bottle again to look for the expiration date since something just didn't sit well with me. Lo and behold I noticed a very faded marking on the cap with the expiration of TODAY! Whoa. Although technically there is no problem since the goods were not expired just yet. Anyway, so I went to the section where all the Thai chili sauces were on display to find one with a later expiration date. I picked up bottles after bottles to notice that they were either all nearly faded or totally nonexistent... (or more like totally WIPED OFF with some sort of an agent - see picture below). I mean at least that is what it looks like to me. Or let's be positive and think that maybe the expiration date had just faded off since the products were packaged over two years ago? I did not bring this up to management to hear their explanation so I really cannot be certain. Let's hope not because otherwise what else should we be skeptical about? Scary. Update: Since my initial review 4 months ago, I've bought moldy noodles not once but twice. They are the "fresh" ones from the refrigerated section. So here's the thing about Chinese markets - they are usually located in areas frequented by Asians...and they all stink. Literally. This is not a trait you will usually find in other Asian markets (Mitsuwa for Jpanese, H-Mart for Korean, or Thai/Indonesian grocery stores in Elmhurst) - it always seem to have this stench of rotten meat, raw fish, or some weird fermented pickle stench. It's really really difficult to excuse this sort of thing, since it makes you instantly question their commitment to food safety, since if a store can operate for months with this frankly disturbing scent and not do something about it, it makes you wonder just how clean and sanitary they are packaging up your produce, meats and fishes. It's odd, though. The people who don't notice it tends to be the ones who had their sense of smell seared off by years of exposure to, oh, the sledgehammer-like mix of spices used in bad Szechuan restaurants or *meh* pulled noodle joints. The ones who grew up frequenting supermarkets with sane sanitary purposes will notice it instantly. The excuses I heard run the gamut from "hey, this smells just like the supermarkets back home" (this from the same people who saves laundry water for 3 washes) to "yeah, but at least it's cheap" (yeah, but you won't tolerate a dirty smelly dentist who gives you a discount, right?) GW, unfortunately, reeks. You can literally smell it coming off the 99th street overpass connecting Corona to Rego Park, since their dumpster is facing Horace Harding Expressway, and the off-ramp snakes around that area a few times. I mean, it absolutely clears your nose with their scents, and a simple look at their floor plan tells you all you need to know. The produce is by the door, followed by a (holy cow) fish/seafood section that can frankly use a lot of ice. I mean, much, much more ice. Then the meat section that is out in the open, and you find monstrosities like having raw chicken legs in a box out in the open, with some ice, and there is a slimey tong inserted into the box for you to pick it up - *ewww*. Let's put it this way. If this is a Trader Joe's or a Wegman's you'll see customers up in arms about it. You got the cans and frozen stuff on the other side. Oddly enough, they have a massive Russian/Eastern European section with product labels written in what the Chinese assume to be Russian, but in Latin alphabets. The results is amazingly quarter-assed - not that they are good with labelling at all, even their signs in English are full of misspellings. Word to the wise - the signs for sales items are not supplied with dates, so you cannot really be sure if they are correctly priced or not, and they will not honor their own mistakes. The Vietnamese section has some decent stuff, as does the Latin groceries and the Jamaican stuff. Of course, Food Bazaar also does an excellent job, and there are 2 around LeFrak. Here's the problem with GW - it's a Chinese supermarket that tries to be the neighborhood supermarket (for those who are old-school Corona/LeFrak, you will recall Western Beef around where the Chase is on 57th Av), but yet it is also way too Chinese to really discourage anyone non-Asian to go in...twice. Hell, I regret going there for the first time. Please do something about that stench, because holy crap, I do not want to be there. read more

A surprise find while searching for "Chinese supermarket" on Yelp, with low expectation for a hit outside of Elmhurst or Flushing. More evidence that expectations interfere with discovery. Located on the border of Corona and Rego Park, right by the LIE, this branch of Great Wall Supermarket is part of a small shopping center and the Lefrak City apartment complex. A major plus is a mid-size free parking lot on the second floor, accessible via a ramp on 57th Avenue near 99th Street. This GW is pristine and organized. Having yet to visit during the weekends, it is a pleasure to shop on weekday evenings, without needing to elbow one's way through hordes of shoppers. And even if there were, it is enormous, its' aisles roomy, the ceilings high. Although open for about half a year now, it still feels very new. As a Chinese supermarket, it has everything that could be expected, with excellent selection for many items. Huge produce section, neatly stacked and comprehensively labeled in English and Chinese, and often offering less common items. Plenty of non-Chinese items too, including kale, Brussels sprouts, nopal, Scotch bonnets, tomatillos, and varieties of mushrooms. Organization is exceptional; everything looks as good as the presentation at a Whole Foods. Large meat and seafood counter, with some live offerings. Multiple open freezer sections with dumplings, seafood, meat, and vegetables. Nut and grain section (oddly missing plain old peanuts), purchased by weight. The back has long aisles with rows and rows of sauces, condiments, noodles, dry goods, canned foods, snacks and cookies, beverages, and really anything else one could possibly want. Small utensil and kitchen goods section in the back. There are a few sections for products from Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and Korea; there are even some for Eastern Europe and Latin America. Prices are reasonable, and not necessarily more expensive than Flushing. An excellent Chinese supermarket for those who live closer to here than Flushing. A great food shopping experience for anyone. Note that those with large bags are expected to check them in at the door with the security guard. read more

CHECK EXPIRATION DATES!!!! I sent my daughter to pick up somethings for me and two things were expired. When I opened up the package of cheese, it smelled! And it had some funky looking spots on it (mold perhaps)?? Upon further inspection, the cheese use by date was January 7, 2019! Also, the can of beans was 11/1/2018. Come on GW! Get it together. This supermarket is a hit or miss. As another Yelper mentioned they do sell expired food, so check the expiration dates on every item. Last week, I got frozen dumplings from them and two out of the four packages were stale (stale pork). There were no expiration dates on those packages. My parents have also gotten spoilt meat from the butcher area. There are some pros. The supermarket is nice and well lit. The vegetable and fruit selection isn't bad. I'll still go because this is the only Chinese supermarket in the area. read more

From a wide chice of produce, fresh poultry and fish to yummy snacks and candies for my little onebut i would have to say her favorite part of the market is the live frogs, shell fish and eels !!! The only problem i have with this place is that when you are asking the staff for help finding certain items, they either are totally clueless or they dont speak english, which is not useful at all in this neighborhood. I don't really like writing reviews so there must be something that really triggered me into writing this review. This place has its pros and cons but I would say that the con is a deal breaker. Yes, this place is big and has a variety of different food other than Chinese. But the employees here have a disgusting I mean DISGUSTING attitude, especially the butchers. This place is very unsanitized. I was trying to buy ribs and I politely asked the butcher to help me and he looked at me and went back to whatever he was doing... Hello, it's not like you're helping another customer. I had to wait for him for 3 minutes just to come over and help. Before he came over to me, he was cleaning tools and his gloves were all dirty and he didn't even bother changing new gloves or even washing it. He simply came over and grab the ribs that I asked for with his DIRTY gloves. Before he even went for the ribs, I asked him to wash his hand (gloves) before touching the meat but he simply ignored me. I asked him again politely to wash his hands "glove" and then he began to get very annoyed at me and gave me a very nasty attitude and look. He raised his voice at me asking if I still want the ribs or not... I said no and just walked away. But seriously tho? That is really disgusting, touch food with dirty gloves. He obliviously doesn't care because he's not the one eating the food. I don't want to get an upset stomach because these butchers are so unsanitized. Also, they just have chicken thighs laying in an open bucket... that's gross; there wasn't even ice in that bucket. Not only is this place unsanitized but also it's a scam. Last time I bought cherries from them and when I went home and took out the cherries there was so much water in the plastic bowl where the cherries well kept in. They charged the cherries by how much it weighed. I understand if there's just a little bit of water but there was about 1.5 oz of water in there. Are you kidding with me... GW Supermarket is a welcome addition to the neighborhood! It takes a lot of work to keep a supermarket of this size so organized and open for so many hours in a day. No matter what time we go, the inventory is fresh and well stocked. The prices are similar if not better than other supermarkets such as Skyfoods and Food Bazaar. A parking lot can be found upstairs; the entrance is just around the corner on 57th Avenue. Keep up the good work GW! read more

This super market has a large selection of produce, Asian groceries, seafood, noodles and all type of Chinese specifically good. It is great since there are no Chinese supermarkets in the nearby area. They also provided free parking validated with purchase of 10 dollar minimum, I believe. When I went there last time, he even had sampling for fried dumplings. Good place to pick up your Asian goods of you dont want to trek out to the busy hustling streets of flushing or Elmhurst. read more
