These guys need to be knocked down off their "5 star" pedestal. The results are hit or miss, and more miss than hit. They bid twice the work that was requested. The work is not actively supervised (the lead sits in his vehicle "several houses down" so as not to be in the way). They take videos of your property without asking. I was happy with the trimming of the oak tree - the guy was experienced and conscientious, did a good job getting it off the house and making a nice canopy. About only thing I would trust them for. read more

They did a great job removing a massive pine tree that required a crane. It was done in very quick, and they cleaned up well. Hauled everything away as well. The only issue we experienced was they initially drove the crane onto our lawn, which tore it up and cracked the sidewalk. When I called to let them know, there was no apology for the damage. Instead, I was told the city should handle the sidewalk. Then given the excuse of it was "thin and washed out underneath," was why it cracked easily. While we know our lawn isn't perfect, it was still frustrating to see it torn up. Also, the truck partially drove over our sewer line. Fortunately, there was no damage. It would've been appreciated if they had at least consulted us beforehand. We would've gladly let them use the driveway from the start, where they eventually moved the crane anyway. We weren't even aware the sidewalk was cracked until we noticed it ourselves later that day. Someone could've easily gotten hurt. Instead of the company reporting it, we had to reach out to the city ourselves to start the repair process. In the end, great work on the tree, but we were disappointed with lack of accountability for the damage caused. read more

I contacted Greater Bay Area Tree Service online on Sunday. Monday they called me about the palm tree I needed to be trimmed or removed. They explained this tree would grow 1 foot year so probably best to remove. (this palm is too close to my home so I am not attached to it) They came today with a huge team & efficiently cut it down and carried away the parts. Amazing service. Requested a quote on a Wednesday evening, they came out to check out the trees on a Friday, sent me an estimate on Saturday and they were out the next Friday trimming the trees. Just wow. In this same amount of time, fellow Yelper Brett N. was waiting over a week past when another tree company said they'd give him a tree trimming quote. I totally won this one. I have to be honest, I didn't shop around for other quotes. I was on a tight deadline (I'm hosting an outdoor gender reveal and needed our trees to not embarrass me) and I trust fellow Yelpers. What other tree company has 23 reviews and an average of five stars? Also, do you know how hard it is to actually get quotes/work done from contractors? I've been on the lets get every project done due to the fact that I'm always home now and the amount of times that I've been stood up, not called back, etc. is astounding. There is something to be said about a company that works fast and actually shows up when they say they will. I was actually a little nervous about that fact that I almost never communicated in person with anyone. I didn't see the person who came to do the estimate and I didn't know when the people were arriving to cut the trees (other than being told that it was on Friday). The workers just show up and do their job. Which, honestly, if everyone did as amazing a job as they do, then who cares if you ever meet them or if they are ghosts. That's not to say that communication with them is lacking in any way. The owner, Cary, is super quick on text. Again, quick communication is definitely a rare commodity these days. Our trees look great, they are no longer destroying the fence and the only time I ever met someone in person was when a worker knocked on my door to tell me they were finished. They took away all the limbs and cleaned up after themselves. I received an invoice via text almost immediately after. So easy. Nothing; I'd use them, but they were too busy helping clear downed trees on houses, streets,and power lines from hurricanes. That is forcing existing homeowners to wait or risk using less qualified people. They were flexible in scheduling when to do the service and once they got here the crew was amazing! We had a massive sea grape and huge oaks. Because they provided exactly what they said they would, when they said they would. --- --- --- It's sad how prevalent unreliability is within the home services industry, but I almost expect to have to cycle through several companies before finding someone who will actually show up. Unfortunately, the first guy I called insisted he'd get me a quote within 48 hours and was never heard from again. Call #2 was to Cary and it should have been Call #1. He came out to my house to check out what was needed when he said he would. He told me he'd get me a quote by the end of that day, and got it to me within a few minutes. And then he told me it could be 3-4 weeks before he arrived, and he ended up completing the job 16 days later. Amazing. And as soon as they were done, our house immediately looked nicer. Everything we asked for was done perfectly, plus they even cleaned out our gutters while they were up on our roof. I called Greater Bay Area Tree and Crane Service to come out and give me a quote. They were in the same range as others that we had spoken to (but a little cheaper) and they were able to do it the next day. They did 6 trees for me with stump grinding. They were on time, professional, and they all worked together really well. They kept me informed of what was going on and didn't talk down to me (a problem I had with one place) and most importantly did what they said they would do. They protected the pool from getting a bunch of debris from the stump grinding and skimmed out the small bits that did make it in, they removed two kinds of oak that were close to the house and four palms around the pool, and they cleaned up perfectly when they were finished. In just a few hours we were ready for hurricane season. I have already recommended them to neighbors and family, and I will be using them again if I need tree services. read more

A good-sized tree in our front yard was dying and becoming a hazard so I got a few quotes on taking it down. I'm a teacher on a limited summer budget, so when I got estimates in the $1000-1200 range, I seriously considered waiting until August when I start getting paid and hoping that the tree didn't fall on my house before then.
