Signing up online isn't really that intuitive, but after much scrolling and clicking back and forth, I got the 30 day pass. Even though it's only because of COVID, I really appreciate reserving time slots for using the facility. Downside to being a guy who gyms for 2 hours, the slots are only for 1 hr. The renovated locker room looks so much better since precovid (I used boys room, until I found the grown ups room). The adult locker rooms are reminiscent of my middle/high school days. As for the fitness center, most things I need like bench, squat and deadlifts is pretty secluded from the dumbbell area and cardio machines. Doing this for my cousin, so we'll see how he feels about working out once the 30 days are up. read more

The staff at the front desk and phones are very nice. As far s the rest of it I have been very disappointed. Members are constantly using cell phones in the men's locker room and SHOWERS. Multiple requests to upper management to address this issue have failed. The sauna keeps breaking, OSHA and the town of Lowell stopped work in the men's locker room because members were at risk of getting electrocuted. ( Power cords running along the wet floor next to the men's shower posed a safety risk). The online schedules are not kept up to date and middle and upper management use the excuse "we are privately owned and don't belong to the rest of the YMCAs.) I guess they can do what they want and certainly gave the impression of not caring about members. read more

This review is for the swim staff here and not the rest of the facility, which I didn't utilize. I took my kids for swim lessons here this summer and was a little nervous because I've been here before and it is definitely an older city facility. I was pleasantly surprised, though. It's a little run down at the edges in terms of the age of the building, but bathrooms, locker rooms, and the pool area were very clean considering they were in constant use. It seems like a very busy YMCA between day care and the daily use people. The swim staff were young, professional, strong swimmers, and very attentive to the kids. I could not have been more impressed. Over the course of a few weeks my daughter went from a drowning doggy paddle to a fairly proficient swimmer thanks to the patience of the staff. They took care to work with the kids individually and really did a great job of getting them each up to speed with techniques according to the skill level they were at. I was very impressed and it made me want to continue with swim for my kids year round there. read more

Mixed review here... It's for the pool: Open lap swimming : 2 stars. While the lifeguards are friendly they don't seem to know which lanes are for what and more than once I've been stuck fighting children in the shallow end in my lane. The children were literally swimming under each of the lane dividers while around 8 lap swimmers were in the pool. I got out of my lane, went and spoke to the lifeguard, wondering if I was confused about the setup... he didn't seem to know or care. It was very frustrating to myself and the other swimmers. And this has happened more than once. Swim class: 4 stars The intermediate swim class is a lot of fun and the instructor is really nice. No intimidation and she's flexible on what the class covers. This lets us focus on what is most important to each individual. I wish there was a little more individual attention. After this class I doubt I'm ready for advanced, so it leaves the question... where do I go next if I want to continue to improve my stroke? I don't think repeating intermediate would necessarily teach me anything else. The building itself is a bit run down and I have not used the other facilities. The showers for the pool are clean so that keeps it at a solid 3 stars. read more

I m going there almost everyday the front desk people are wonderful specially Ray he might look a very serious person but he is nice with a lot of sense of humor he is a Yankee fan so don't wear Redsox things in front of him.the Gym area is good the time I go not very crowded..mens health club its ok in fact its an old building but its very well maintained which is ok to use..you receive a complementary towel once you check in.this place is good for relaxing and chatting with people there. sufficient parking available but be careful when you park there at nights as many incidents happened recently. read more

Not sure who runs this place but sure aren't paying attention to detail. The men's spa area is gross, rust everywhere, just filth, in need of major renovations. Work out equipment filthy and outdated, guys are naked without flip flops walking around while shaving in the steam room. Treadmills are good but the General Manager here obviously does nothing. Rates are cheap but still this place needs to clean its self up rather than look like a gym out of a 3rd World Country. I only come here for the sauna, pool, when it's not smelling like urine, and the treadmills, other than that I go to Planet Fitness for a clean club and updated machines. Ray at the front desk is great though, without this awesome dude and kind personality this place would be deeper in the shitta. That guy makes this place happen! read more

When I arrived at the front desk I was not greeted and payed no attention to. There were two employees there, one assisting a customer and another (with a coarse voice I believe from NY) who pretended I was not standing there with an application form for a solid 2 minutes. In reality I know it is not that time, but while awkwardly standing there it felt like eternity. He was literally standing there looking out into space, ignoring my existence and doing absolutely nothing, terrible customer service off the bat. I went here to sign up for a membership, I am about to start a years service with an AmeriCorps program this year. I was planning on applying for financial aid as I do not have a formal form of income and am on a tight budget. I previously came here for a swimming session to ask if signing up/getting assistance would be an option for someone in my position, I was told that yes it would work. After explaining my situation to this jerk, he seemed sickened by the fact that anyone was even talking to him, nonetheless asking for financial assistance, heaven forbid he has to do any paperwork. I have a letter from my program director explaining my situation with a number to speak to her. He quickly scanned my household finances and quickly pointed out that my expenses outweigh my income with a snark and rude demeanor. I tried explaining that I have savings and will be able to pay my own bills (thank-you very much), I figured that I did not need to explain the situation further after all it is the reason why I am applying for FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. He continued to be condescending to me and was "Willing to bet 100 dollars that my application would be rejected, and that they would call me" in a nasty tone. I responded by politely saying that I would happily talk to them and that my director would be happy to talk to them as well. He continued trying to lecture me about how "It doesn't make sense, its simple math" while looking over to the other customer while grinning and nodding trying to earn some sort of satisfaction. WHOA, was am living in an alternate universe where that type of treatment is acceptable to anyone? Who does this person think he is? He seemed like he was an ordinary front desk employee (I hope for the sake of the organization that he is not management) who's job primarily focuses on customer service. I can honestly say that he tried his best to do the complete opposite. After successfully frustrating and making me as uncomfortable as possible I told him that I will go somewhere else, took my papers and left. You can check my previous yelp history, I do not write bad reviews. I am a kind person who tries to find the best in everyone. I am sure that on his good days this guy can be ok, but today around 6:30 on Aug 25th he failed miserably at his job. To be honest he is very close to completely ruining my entire perspective on the YMCA. Something needs to change. To management, this man should be written up twice. Once for not doing his job of greeting people as they come in/ignoring customers (obvious or not) while working in the front desk. And secondly for insulting customers in the front of others while seeking attention to stroke his own ego. On my way home, I visited another YMCA location, and explained to them my situation. I will admit, I did make an error because I did not include my roommate's loan income (not my business, so naturally I did not include it). While there they happily and politely assisted me in filling out my information. It was a simple and honest mistake definitely not as big of a deal as this man made it seem to be. I feel like they did a good job in helping serve their customers instead of insulting/bullying them. The good news is that I was able to successfully sign up for a membership (with assistance). I will be back to this location, I will use their facilities. If I do run into this man again, and am not greeted with a smile and simple welcome I will write another scathing review with a terrible rating. If I do see a change in him or general service I will happily write another review. Until then, if I could I would rate this place a zero. This place is not what I expected at all. I thought Y's were old and musty. This place rocks. The equipment is state-of the art and they have everything, basketball/racquetball/handball courts, a huge pool, spin classes and so much for kids too. The prices are worth it and you don't have to commit to a contract. Check it out, you'll be surprised. And hey, it's pretty clean and the locker room is brand new. read more
