Sad to report that the manager of the pool seems to have a power issue and enjoys exerting herself and excreting her power over the senior aquatic class. ( the class itself and the instructors are incredible.) The manager orders her life guards about often before the end class and disrupts the aquatic class by closing down the lanes and often double books lanes time with various other water activity. So shocked when she closed lanes and squished a class of 30 to prioritizing one child's private lessons to s full class of 25 plus seniors. Mean while the open lanes remained open. is this a power control issue? Not sure Bizzare as when I show up a mere few hours later and no one is in the pool. Nice facilities for working out. Friendly and helpful staff. The equipment is well maintained and the cardio machines (mostly) connect with my Apple Watch, which I appreciate. read more

Certain days of the week there is a crazed female trainer, who is very loud and obnoxious. When she comes in, she blares horrible music and turns all the fans on even if there are arctic temps outside.....She claims almost 1/2 of the gym space for her class. It seems to be growing each week where she will take the entire gym! If you encroach on her space, watch out!! God forbid you move something she says is part of her class!!! read more

I am a member of another y and I used the away program that is offered with my Membership to use all the Y in Massachusetts and N.H. and this y is Great small but with a big enough for what I wanted to do so I workout on the treadmill and swam but first this I notice is how clean the Locker rooms and the rest of the place is the only thing I did not like is how old some of the Cardio Machines are but I will be back from time to time when I am in the area if I like near here I would Join it's work it read more

Visiting from out of town for a few days; the staff has been so very welcoming and helpful, especially the greeter at the front desk. She was patient and so kind to get me registered with a few daily passes. The facility is clean and has so much to offer. read more

This place deserves ZERO STARS. I am absolutely disgusted by the actions of the management and staff at the Ipswich location. I was SCREAMED AT for trying to walk into the gym with an active YMCA pass. The lady at the front desk is EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL. Do yourself a favor and head somewhere else!! read more

We were asked to pay $15/person by the front desk, if we accompany our son inside the YMCA no matter what. We explained to the front desk that our son has youth YMCA membership and we don't need to pay for just watching him swim. But the explanation we got is funny - since we take one spot of area inside the YMCA, we need to pay. We are very disappointed in Ipswich Y and decides to cancel my son's membership. read more

My daughter has been taking swim lessons here for several weeks, having switched from another location that wasn't a Y. I'm very disappointed in the swim instructors. I've seen my daughter regress and lose stamina, due to the poor instruction, and reliance on kick boards and noodles. They don't get in the pool with the kids to correct stroke issues, they just stand on the edge of the pool deck yelling instruction. So disappointing for the price. I complained to the front desk and aquatics director, but my complaints have gone unheeded. Off to search for a place with better instruction. On the upside it's clean, only reason it gets the two stars is because of that. read more

I have to thank the aquatics staff at the Ipswich Y for getting my reluctant young swimmer to not only look forward to, but want to, get in the pool. This is a child who got nervous if the water in the tub got too deep who now doesn't want to get out of the pool at the end of a lesson, and who asks to go to free swim so he can "practice his swimming" as he says. Your staff is accomplishing the three major goals anyone involved in youth sports should focus on: you're teaching my child the skill set appropriate for his level of swimmer, he's having fun learning, and he wants to come back and learn more. My son has been taking swim classes here since 2012. All the teachers we have met have been great. They encourage the parents and children to be independent. If someone needs more attention for their child, they offer private lessons as well. So far, I don't think my son will need them. This Y is extremely clean, and the staff is great. We are actually going to be enrolling our son in preschool here as well! read more

We use the YMCA in Ipswich for swimming lessons for both my 4 year old son and 7 year old daughter. Both my kids are shy and have had a mixed bag of swimming lessons elsewhere. The Ipswich Y, has been the best thing for our family!! The staff and teachers have been so wonderful to us, and my kids have benefited greatly. Everybody has been so supportive, and really go out of their way to make the kids feel comfortable. It is truly a wonderful experience! I can't say enough good things about this place and the people who work there. I recommend this place to all my friends who have kids in the area. Thanks so much Ipswich Y. read more

Great place to go for a workout. Very nice executive director. Staff is very helpful. Wish they did more road races. My favorite is the Gorilla in April. Great race! read more
