I had never had goats' milk ice cream, so what better place to do that than Borough Market where they sell pretty much everything. Greedy Goat has a small stand in the ridiculously small seating area of the market. Jamie W. and I decided to treat ourselves on a balmy day. £6 will get you two scoops in a cup, and there were about ten enticing flavors to choose from. After lunch, dessert was in order, especially during a hot summer day! Greedy goat is a cute ice cream stand located at the Borough Market. This is where their story started, humble beginnings serving ice cream cups and cones from their 'little goat shack' at the market. Their ice cream is made in Somerset from British goat's milk. (Uhhhm, don't mind if I do!) Their ice creams are GMO free, egg free, gluten free, lactose friendly, 100% natural, suitable for vegetarians, and all that good stuff . They had a handful of fun flavors available and we went with chocolate for the kiddo and we got the banana & pecan. Our son enjoyed his ice cream and couldn't even tell it was made from goat's milk instead of cow's milk ;). We also enjoyed our ice cream. Nice, clean flavor and not overly sweet! The fact that they use locally sourced ingredients were a big plus for me and something I like to look for when visiting new places. It is quite a bit pricey per scoop, at £3.90, but we were on vacation so ... counting memories not $$$. read more

Goat milk ice cream? You've goat to be kidding me. (Sorry, I'll see myself out...) One of my favorite things about Europe is the predominance of goat cheese. While I wouldn't touch goat milk on its own with a ten-foot pole and only find goat cheese tolerable in moderation, I think there's something to be said for the idyllic image of happy, healthy goats gallivanting around the countryside. It also helps that you can't even taste the goat milk in this ice cream. It's a little creamier than your run-of-the-mill ice cream, but nothing about the actual ice cream flavor is overpowering. I'm used to steep prices for single scoops of trendy, hyped-up ice cream back home in San Francisco, but £3 is a steal for ice cream that actually sets itself apart from its competitors by being goat milk ice cream that's low in lactose and fat. I had a scoop of the chocolate hazelnut, but don't be afraid to ask for samples if you're indecisive. (I've got my eye on the gin & tonic flavor for my next visit.) read more

The Greedy Goat is probably open now 4 months, I can only imagine it's gathering a cult following. Seriously their ice cream is Baaaaaahnanas. I got to taste a lot of the goat milk ice cream at Borough Market. I opted for one scoop of apple pie (£3) but also loved the gingerbread and pistachio. Creamy flavor but less lactose than regular ice cream. Definitely a refreshing treat. read more

It's hard to explain to people that I've developed an allergy to milk. I'm not lactose intolerant. I can't eat any of this "lactose free" stuff, because it still makes me sick. Had pistachio and salted caramel ice cream on a cone. Texture was much denser and creamier than that of ice cream made from cows milk. Ice cream wasn't that sweet so the flavor stuck out a bit more. Bit pricey for ice cream but so is everything else at Borough Market. read more
