White chocolate ice cream with waffle

Conveniently located on Wardour street and open till late,  Snowflake feels comforting to have around for a  dessert-lover like me. Nevertheless my experience of it has beem decidedly unexceptional. I had a scoop of white chocolate ice cream with waffle and a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was served in a tall glass but was otherwise very ordinary and possibly sub-standard for an ice cream parlour as it lacked smoothness and a finishing touch. The ice cream was pleasantly flavoured,  achieving a good balance of taste without being saturated with sweetness but it still wasn't creamy enough for my liking.  The waffle on the other hand was their best offering as it seemed soft enough to be freshly prepared including a satisfyingly crisp exterior with a decent sprinkling of sugar frosting.  Overall Snowflake is nice enough but I rather expected it to be better.

I was walking past an eye catching gelato shop that it's name sounds different than other gelato shop. But, when I went there it was like any other gelato shop. Staff were friendly and gave me couple of tasters. The nice thing is, that they have vegan gelato too. I bought the chocolate vegan gelato in a cup. It was very delicious. They offer different fruity gelato flavors. They have a seating area inside. The place is not too far from The palace Theater.

Just like me, you might've heard the hype or seen videos/pictures of this intriguing dessert option. Inside of Oxford Street's Selfridges, this gelateria's most popular order is most definitely its "Avolato." It comes in a true avocado shell and has a nut butter center as its "seed." (I believe it amounted to about £8 or £9.) Just as an avocado isn't sweet, the gelato was not outrageously sugared. It was enough to know that this was a dessert. The nut butter tasted as one might expect. (Note: It is vegan!) I wasn't blown away by the dessert but curiosity got the best of me and I caved in. The service was courteous and quick but I think this was more about the experience (and for avid foodstagrammers). As for the taste of this particular gelato, it might be a tad overrated.

Best milkshakes ever! Made out of real gelato, the only way to make it :) I ordered Oreo, yes, Oreo, it tasted amazing! You can choose different tastes when ordering the milkshake. I went back there another time and went for Chocolate and Hazelnut, this whole thing that you choose the taste you want is best thing ever. They change the gelatos everyday so you might not find the same taste two days in a row, but thats just perfect because then you have to try something new.

I was mentioning possible places to meet some friends for a quick snack before they left London, and Snowflake was decided to be the winner. I then received an email from Timeout offering 1/2 price gelato and waffles at Snowflake. It was very serendipitous, but also a bit creepy... When we arrived, it smelled like they were having a serious clean, it was quite pungent, but we soon got used to it. And besides, I'd rather eat somewhere clean wouldn't you? We presented our voucher and spent a while choosing which waffle combo to go with. It was also a great opportunity to sample different flavours of gelato available. I've been here a couple of times, but I just so happened to forget how amazing the super dark dairy free chocolate sorbet was, so I had to sample it again. ;) I also needed to re-sample the mint choc, (normally my go to, but this time not chocolatey enough), the stracciatela, a couple of sorbets and a creme brûlée, before deciding on a Chef's Special; peach froyo! I teamed that with a white chocolate and strawberry-drizzled waffle and a hot chocolate, and was a happy man. My London tourist pals seemed very happy with the choice; and I'm sure we'll be back again!

Came here for a dessert after dinner and chose to go with the chocolate fondant. The fondant was very moist and the warm chocolate center was the perfect accent to the cold gelato. The price was only £7.5, so not bad at all!

Overwhelming 5 stars for the food but deducted a star because of the unpleasant service that we received. My sister and I came into Snowflake on a Friday evening, so the place was pretty crowded. At first, we started sampling some of the gelato flavors (there are soooo many!), but then the waffles, crepes and sundaes caught our eye, so we decided to sit down. If you're ordering fancier items from the menu, you can sit down at a table, and the workers will take your order and serve you. Our server was quite rude, to be honest, and looked annoyed every time we asked her a question or for a clarification. When I decided on a single scoop in a cone rather than a more extravagant dish, she told me that customers weren't technically allowed to order plain gelato at the tables, and made it seem like she was doing me a huge favor by allowing me to order it. Her expression the whole time just made me and my sister feel so unwelcome. Aside from our experience with the server, the gelato itself is incredible. Probably among the best gelato that I've ever had. There are so many flavors that there's bound to be at least one for every person. The taste of the gelato itself matches so well with the name. I had the almond gelato, and it is now one of my favorite flavors because it so successfully elevated the almond flavor into an amazing frozen treat. The cone itself was also so delicious - so light and flaky like a wafer - and that's saying something, because I'm usually the one to eat the ice cream and throw away the cone. My sister had the Nutella waffle with a scoop of Honeycomb gelato, and she thought the whole dish was spectacular. The waffles are made fresh to order and are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. She said that the ice cream was a great and refreshing accompaniment to the warm waffle. The presentation was also super pretty and just made for an overall very appetizing and delicious dish. So yes, the food is incredible, there's no doubt about it. Next time, if I do come back, I will probably get my gelato to-go rather than be served by the workers in order to avoid another unpleasant server experience.

I've been trying to re-live my Italian gelato experience but sadly gelato has never been the same since Rome. I figure since I was in the EU part of the world, this place would stand a good chance...... The gelato is good here but sadly it is not pure bonified guido good. If this place was horrible I would call it SnoFake but it wasn't bad.

Having enjoyed the glory that is true, authentic Italian gelato on a few occasions, I've honestly only ever been able to find the good stuff twice outside of Italy: Mo Gelato (New York): http://www.yelp.com/biz/mo-gelato-new-york-2 Paciugo Gelato (Texas): http://www.yelp.com/biz/paciugo-gelato-dallas I had high expectations walking into London's Snowflake, and while the atmosphere was classy, the service friendly, and the presentation and breadth impressive, this wasn't quite up to snuff when compared to what I've had elsewhere, eve in the city. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Like I said, Snowflake puts on an impressive display. I mean, it's called Snowflake 'Luxury' Gelato after all. The servers are well dressed and even better informed, and the variety was more impressive than virtually anything I've seen. Sure, some of the flavors were a bit too exotic, but all the standard players were involved. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? The 'luxury' aspect of Snowflake's 'Luxury' Gelato had me worried with regard to price, and I wasn't exactly optimistic when I was handed my regular portion that I'd just paid £4.20 for. However, this was dense stuff, and at the end of the day was a suitable portion for the cost: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg&select=fjmtrdUyzFaOMPppA2XSxA Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Having sampled what now seems like countless servings of gelato around the world without too much success in replicating the original, I think I've found the key. With significantly less fat (vs. ice cream) in exchange for quite a bit more sugar, good gelato is fluffy, almost like a creamier whipped cream as opposed to scoopable ice cream. Snowflake had good flavor, with both my milk chocolate and italian biscotti flavors delivering, but the consistency wasn't quite there, as you can probably see from my picture. This was, at least with regard to texture, just light ice cream as I saw it, which was evident to me in the way it melted quite quickly even though it was cold outside. Good stuff, but not great stuff. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? The flavor variety might keep me coming back, but there are better options in the city. No Star Granted.

I bought a Wowcher voucher for waffles, gelato and hot chocolate for two people, with a choice of Snowflake in either Wardour Street or Westbourne Grove (we chose the Soho one). On arrival, there were no other customers in the shop, which was simultaneously very handy for us but also a bit worrying! We had arrived at an odd time though, around 12.45, so most people were probably savoury lunching. Once we had ordered and sat down the shop soon started bustling, so we must have just go there at the best time! On entering the store we announced the voucher, and they took us through exactly what was included which was great. Whilst we were studying the multitude of amazing choices in flavour of gelato, the man behind the counter kept passing over taster samplers of many flavours, saying for us to just ask if there were any more we wanted to try before ordering - this was great! The peanut butter gelato was delicious - just the right balance of nutty flavour and creaminess, but in the end I picked the white chocolate gelato with strawberry and dark chocolate - it was delicious and you could definitely taste each of the flavours within it. My friend had the amarena icecream, and that was delicious too (and she said her taster of the pistachio was great as well!). Our voucher also got us 'small' waffles - Snowflake's waffles are made fresh on site with a waffle maker, and they are PERFECTION - thick and fluffy, crispy and ever-so-slightly caramelised on the outside and lovely and moist on the inside. We picked the Nutella ones, which had beautifully piped nutella filling each little hole in the waffle. It was sublime! The voucher stated a hot chocolate each, but on the day we had the option of any hot drink, and opted for lattes to cut through the sweetness and richness of our treats! The lattes were creamy and delicious. The decoration of the shop is lovely, it had a nice atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. And even full price, I would say Snowflake is great value for the type of product it sells. I will definitely be back!

Hilarity abound as a 9.30pm on a Saturday night in London, my work friends and I decided that gelato was what we really needed right now. We stumbled upon this little gem and immediately hit the giggles which was indulged by the lovely staff who undoubtedly thought we were quite mad. I have to admit, I was quite upset as a newly diagnosed lactose intolerant person I thought there would be nothing for me, but this place has it all - dairy free, sugar free, fat free. Well thought out! My only gripe is this - please, stop talking about your gelato being "guilt" free. Food is about enjoyment and quality and everything in moderation. Not about guilt!

    Day of opening

I have no idea how all these gelato businesses in the UK make money. We all know 364 out of 365 days it is either raining, windy, snowing, sleeting or dark skies overhead. That said, let's get down to it. Popped in for a free gelato on the day of opening. Available flavours seem pretty safe, nothing that would make you go "Wow! I must try this weird sounding possibly horrible but maybe it will turn out great flavour!". Tastes like gelatos you get anywhere else, but the presentation of the store makes it more high end than usual. It is spotless, and most of the time when I walk past also devoid of customers. They had an exhibit stand at Olympia Exhibition Centre when I went to the National Wedding Show last weekend, interestingly you can hire their cart apparently at £300 for 4 hours, and pay an additional £5 (per 200g of ice cream, I believe?) at your wedding/event. How tempting, except, I think the British weather will rain on my parade, literally.

Firstly there are different options for a base- a cookie, brownie, doughnut or baklava. Then you choose your ice cream and toppings. I decided to go for the brownie topped with lotus biscuits and flake, and chocolate ice cream. It was really tasty and enjoyable. The portion isn't massive but is a decent enough size. I didn't think it was necessarily worth £7.30 though, which after adding the toppings is the price mine came to. So I do not think it is value for money, but maybe more attractive as a place to grab something and post it all over Instagram! They have got it right, with pink walls, cool seating and novelty mirrors on the walls. I did enjoy the brownie but now I wish I had tried the baklava as it would have been good to try something different that you can't necessarily get everywhere with these toppings. So now I kind of want to return just to try that! Whereas otherwise I probably wouldn't feel a need to return now that I've tried it. I wouldn't say the place was set up for an influx of customers either, considering how much it has been posted/advertised everywhere on social media. There was just one member of staff there when I went (Sunday afternoon) and so she took the orders and payment and then went and prepared the ice cream, so had there been a queue there might have been quite a wait. Like I said, I might go back to try the baklava if in the area, but this is likely somewhere that people visit for a media post and then don't return. The price point is too high in my opinion for regular customers.

Ultimately, I do think the caramel and framboise options were the winners. They were delicious and moist and just beautiful. Don't get me wrong: I would never turn down the chocolate one, but when I go back I'll be going for the options (and possibly trying new ones).

The quality of the ingredients and chocolate are exquisite, but the downside (where I took off a star) is that they are on the small side and they are expensive at £5 each. They also sell a variety of chocolates (9 piece boxes, 16 piece boxes, beautiful heart chocolates, or by the unit. You can buy macarons in traditional flavors but my favorite macaron place in the world is Pierre Herme and they have more unique flavors there. We tried the chocolate eclair and the hazelnut one. Neither was overly sweet - it was just right. The texture of the cream was perfect too - it was airy, light, tasted fresh and not artificial, and was not too sweet. The bread part at the bottom was firm - not too hard, not too soft, and not spongy. The chocolate one had a raspberry/chocolate topping with gold flakes and it was just perfect. The hazelnut one was really unique, as I had never had a hazelnut eclair before but I love hazelnut anything. There were little pieces of actual hazelnut, the hazelnut cream was perfect and not artificial-tasting, and there was this powdered sugar crunchy thing on top. The hazelnut was a bit messy to eat/share, since the topping part was harder to break apart, but every bite was amazing. I'd definitely come back here again to eat eclairs. Note that if you want to eat here, they don't really have spoons suitable for eating/sharing - it's more like a small spoon to stir coffee. There's one table outside where you can sit and eat, but there's no seating inside, so don't expect a place where you can hang out and drink tea/coffee and eat your eclair. The eclairs here are fantastic, we came at the end of the day so they didn't have many flavours left, but they typically also have vanilla, salted caramel, and I'm sure a few others that escape my memory (I asked one of the staff what other flavours they typically have). I've overused the word "perfect" in this review, so just go here and eat some eclairs and maybe some chocolates too. I had a praline little egg and it was fantastic, but the eclairs were like nothing I'd ever have. Minus one star for the price, but I guess it's relatively cheap next to all the other expensive stores in Marylebone. Worth the splurge every once in a while and I'll definitely be back.
