We are so grateful we found Green Beans. Our son started there when he was about 19-months and we only left to get a jump on TK. Louise is warm and loving and all the teachers are engaging and kind. Between music class, art class, library trips, and tending the garden our son was exposed to so many enriching experiences. We started at Green Beans after transferring from another school. We had been nervous because of our previous experience, but very quickly, we noticed a big change in our toddler's mood and attitude toward school. He absolutely loves going to Green Beans; he is relaxed and happy before and after school and looks forward to seeing his friends and teachers. Green Beans is truly the best around! My daughter can't wait to get to school and has a huge smile on her face everyday at pickup. This is exactly what a preschool should be in every single sense. So. Much. Love. Lots of play, exploring, getting very dirty, music by Mr. Tony every Monday and library days ( the library is directly across the street) This is a play-based preschool and founded on love so no super rigid lessons or rules. There is lots of reading and learning but it's more for those parents who want their children to enjoy their few precious young years by exploring and playing. The meals are also super yummy and healthy and often include food from their garden or farm box. They have so many special things they do randomly like cooking lessons or bringing in goats and having goat milk ice cream or incubating and hatching baby chicks! So cool! This is my person opinions and I hope this information would help you choose the right day care for your children. My husband and I made an appointment to tour this place. There were 26 kids in this house... Very young toddlers were playing outside and they were all having runny nose and playing with dusted toys... (all the teachers didn't seem professional to us...) The bathroom was dirty and toilet papers were sitting next to the toilet. The sink was full of dishes and kids sippy cups were covered with dust outside and they were having a construction to extent the day care facility. Before you make any decisions, just please go check if this place is clean enough for my child or not. I hope this information helps. read more

Owner Louise has been an amazing person that has treated us with so much love and respect! Green Beans is more than a daycare it is a family, that is centered around curiosity, play, love and imagination. I have been lucky enough to have both of my children attend Green Beans. Louise and her team have helped encourage a positive foundation in my kids, that has surpassed any expectations that one might have when it comes to a "daycare". Do they get dirty? yes, a big part of their day is PLAYING, which includes lessons on gardening (in their own garden!!), art, cooking, music and running around and on the play structures. We LOVE Green Beans! We were initially interested in the preschool because of the Reggio-inspired format, but fell in love with it because of the teachers, the good food, and the chickens and mud hole in the backyard. Our son just graduated from this preschool after 2.5 happy years with them, and he is starting kindergarten well prepared with his interpersonal skills, communication, and creative artistic expression. Mr Steven and Mr Josh emphasize teaching the kids positive social skills, and get them excited about learning through lots of play and exploration. The Director, Louise, is wonderful and loves every kid in her care. She makes great organic meals for them every day, is easy-going about what time you drop-off and pick-up, and lets the kids get dirty while playing and exploring. We are happy that we will get to go through the Green Beans cycle again with our 18 month old who just started in the toddler daycare this month! She is already thrilled to be there and immediately jumped into playing and dancing to music with the other babies. My daughter loves to go to "school." The Greenbeans Teachers make learning fun. My Little talks fondly of her teachers. I love that I receive daily reports, which tell me how she eats, sleeps and plays. That can tell me a lot about any changes in her moods in the evenings. I can't say enough positive things about the care that is given there! They are flexible, caring, fun and genuine! I love that it is play based and educational! My son has recently started kindergarten and is doing amazing... and I know it is in part due to his amazing experience at Green Beans. So I will reiterate what I have said before. My son was at Louise's home daycare, and then the preschool. If you want to send your child to a sterile institutional environment, this is not the place for you. If you want to send your child to a place where your child is surrounded by caregivers who love the kids 110%, a home like environment, where kids have access to fresh air and the outdoors (where yes, they get dirty), to an emilio reggio inspired curriculum (that has set up my son amazingly well for Kindergarten), to fresh & organic home cooked breakfast and lunch, to a place that you can drop in anytime , to a place that is building a kind caring child and a good world citizen, then this IS the place for you. Anyone considering Green Beans to entrust their child to I'd be more than happy to be a reference. I know quite a few past and current parents who would do the same. We have been at Green Beans for 6 months now and I cannot stop raving about it every time child care comes up in conversation. The teachers are genuine, passionate and so patient. They truly let children take the lead and engage with them so authentically. My kiddo looooooooves art and music and both are supplied in abundance. I've been able to witness problem solving in action and love the positive reinforcement, sportscasting, and overall child-centered approach to every single interaction. I'm grateful for the personalized daily reports, a secret Facebook group so I can check in and see what my toddler is getting up to (and reference it at home to further connections and learning for him!) and the true family culture Louise has cultivated. This is my third child and third preschool experience in San Diego. Our first two schools were overall quite positive, but Green Beans pretty much obliterates them in comparison. It is professional but familiar, clean, inviting and such a lovely environment. Having delicious home-cooked meals (all dietary needs welcomed and accommodated!) provided and a visual of them each day is incredible. Wonderful! The best word to describe our experience was wonderfu! We had both our children at green beans for a couple years before they started kindergarten. We all loved the play based model, very family involved, and warm caring teachers. We even keep in touch and sometimes still go camping together with families we met during this time. As a therapist, finding a play-based approach was important to us since that's what research shows kids need at this age to help ideal development. Young children learn best through play. Let me begin by saying that I grew up in a home daycare that my Swedish mother ran for 35 years. When I had my own child and began my search for a daycare/preschool, my standards were very high - I think I visited around 15 different places and none of them felt right to me. My son started at Green Beans when he was around 2 1/2 years old and the love and support of the Green Beans staff was absolutely unparalleled in my opinion. Mr. Steven and Mr. Josh gave my son such an incredible amount of love and care, and Louise was great at taking care of me as a worried first-time mom. Green Beans is truly like an extended family and I am ever so grateful to have found this amazing community. My son is still friends with all of his buddies from preschool. I honestly can't say enough positive things about Green Beans - what a blessing this community was to me and my family. In addition - Louise does all of the cooking and food prep and honors any dietary restrictions you might have for your child - she does an amazing job listening to what your child needs and respecting your requests. Mr. Steven and Mr. Josh are incredible educators - they truly listen to what your child is expressing and value each and every child as an individual. We loved loved loved our experience at Green Beans Preschool. The teachers were caring, loving and a perfect substitute for my husband and I, while we were at work. The Director is very involved with the kids and daily lessons. I love that the kids were taught in a play and learn environment. The preschool hosts holiday parties, haircuts and date nights too! The food that is prepared is always homemade and delicious. My son still loves seaweed, hummus, quinoa and other fruits and vegetables I am not sure he would of been exposed to if he had not attended Green Beans. Honestly, I don't know where to begin with this review. My son has been in Green Beans since he was 6 weeks old. He is now nearing 2 1/2 years old and I couldn't imagine him being under the care of anyone else. Green Beans' teachers all cater to each child's individualized intellectual development. My son has thrived so much at Green Beans and continues to do so each day. The facility itself is exceptionally clean and FUN! The walls are filled with hand-made artwork from all of the children. Louise, the owner, is so accommodating and welcoming to children of all backgrounds and lifestyles. She didn't hesitate one bit when I told her that my son has dietary restrictions. She is also very understanding in emergencies (I was late once or twice due to traffic. Eek, San Diego traffic is horrible!). I am truly VERY confused by a negative review left recently. I almost feel like it was meant for somewhere else as none of those points (unclean with a "horrible" director ) are relevant to Green Beans at all. If you're hesitant about sending your child to Green Beans Preschool, don't be. They're one of the best decisions I've made for my son. read more
