Love this store for the kind service, unique items and delicious food. There's a large Jenni's cooler with an incredible selection of flavors. They also have Illinois bakehouse bread. Sometimes they have scones and granola bars too. I love the local granola, the drink selection and the in bulk items. They've expanded their selection so it's really possible to do all your shopping there. It's a little more expensive but it's locally owned and a treat for the community. read more

The deli here always has two soup options typically one vegetarian and one vegan they are always absolutely hearty and delicious. Today I had a coco curry veggie soup and I would love to post a picture but it would be an empty bowl! They offer Ezekiel bread rolls or with the soup and they have many other options. My meat eating son loves their Green Earth vegan burger here and this is the only veggie burger he will eat. Today they also have vegetarian calzones and always have an assortment of salads, sandwiches, smoothies and juices. The selection seems limited to me, but if you are looking for a specific organic, bulk, or gluten-free food, you might find it here, as I did today when I stopped in for gluten-free noodles for a casserole. But you'll pay a premium price for almost everything, and still need to shop elsewhere for many of your basic groceries. Since this is the closest independent health-food store to me, I do what I can to stop in here and buy a few things. Their selection of foods and rare anti-GMO, organic and the like....I can write multiple paragraphs. I love buying sodas, snacks and bulk foods there. Even their cleaning products and vitamins are excellent. Some of the items are reasonably priced. I've only eaten in the deli part once and it was alright. That being said, there are a couple downers: 1) like all the other Yelpers were saying, yes, Dierbergs and Target have some of the brands they carry and I can get them cheaper at those stores. I like shopping at small family-owned businesses but Dierbergs has those Xevia sodas for a great deal and unfortunately Green Earth hasn't tried to compete with them. 2) Beware of those coupons you get in the mail. You know the one that says something like $5 off when you buy $30 or 35, something like that. They do NOT count sale or clearance items. The only time I had to deal with a rude employee was when the cashier pointed that out to me. But I wish they did count that, otherwise to the owner(s): Please keep up with the times, yo! read more

My biggest complaint is that this is supposed to be a health-focused business and none of the employees was wearing a mask this week! We make it a habit to stop here every time we are in Edwardsville, about twice a year. Even though we make our trips with ample organic, natural, healthy foodstuffs, we always stop here to patronize a local store "doing it right." The service here is always top notch, and the workers are very friendly. Even though we shop there twice a year, one of the long-time employees recognizes us when we come back, and she has since become a Facebook friend with my wife. I've got mixed feelings about this place. The grocery selection is actually pretty good for such a small store, although their dairy-free ice cream selection is seriously lacking. As for the deli ... well, I had to convince the young girl to check the ingredients of a sandwich to make sure it didn't contain a particular allergen that could cause anaphylactic shock in my husband. She really seemed like she'd prefer to take a nap. The young guy that was working with her finally convinced her that checking was the right thing to do. The vegetarian ruben is made with what I think was barbecue flavored tempeh and it made for one truly awful sandwich. Awwwwwwwww yeah! This is the place for both those trying to get a healthy diet going and those trying to avoid corporate dependency. I'll admit, it's a little pricey (half a gallon of milk and 5 ounces of aftershave for $20), but if you're watching what goes in and on your body, it's totally worth it. This is by far the best grocery store ever! It is a vegetation and vegan's dream come true! All the products(other than food) are natural. They sell homeopathic and diet supplements as well. They have the biggest selection of soy and tofu products in town. They have a large selection of drinks too! They also have a deli there, I haven't been there when its open, but from what I see it looks good! If you go just to check it out, go to the freezer and try one of the "tofues" (not sure how its spelled!). Its tofu ice cream! You can get any flavor and you won't be disappointed! read more

I've been in love with this place since I was a preteen newly interested in vegetarian living and the store was in the groovy old building off Kansas Street. It's family-owned, and I love supporting The Local Little Guy. They have the coolest, most helpful employees who really know their (healthy) stuff. The deli is tied with another healthy local restaurant to be my favorite place to grab lunch in E'ville EVER. When I was a vegan, it was truly just about the only place where I could get something without having to go to a grocery store and grab an Amy's dinner. I stick to a paleo/primal diet now, but I still love clean, delicious veggie meals, and you'll get one here at the deli. There are always two soups, and I believe that at least one is always vegan. Both are always delicious and I eat them year-round. Oh, and if they've made the Kale Slaw the day you go, you MUST try it...one of the best salads I've ever eaten! (Note to Green Earth: you really should make that stuff daily, or can/bottle it and sell it! It's just too good.) I don't get to eat/shop here nearly as much as I'd like, because I'm a broke secretary/grad student, but I definitely believe that I get what I pay for there, even if it's a little pricey. Need a supplement? A Tofurkey for your vegan cousin who's coming for Thanksgiving? Organic fruits and veggies? Locally-raised organic meats? Incense? Tea tree oil soap? Hansen's Sodas? It's all here. Some reviewers have pointed out that now that E'ville has a Dierberg's, one can get many of their natural/organic/veggie products there. I've been a fairly regular customer here for some time. Even though every grocer now has organic items, I was trying to shop small business. I have been annoyed more than once at the failure of the staff to re-order items in a timely fashion once they sell out, but continued shopping here to supplement my weekly trip to Dierbergs. I recently attempted to return a couple of unopened, non-perishable items after I realized they were not the variety I wanted. The staff person (older woman, short hair, can often be found in the back office and might be the owner, but who knows) took my return as a personal affront. She did not bother to ask why I was returning the items, and did not offer to help me find what I was really after. She merely slammed the packages down on the counter repeatedly after scanning and typing things into the computer, all while displaying a super annoyed facial expression, as if returning products somehow offends her dignity. It was, frankly, one of the most irritating experiences I have ever had in a store. I won't be back. Also, when I checked the website to see if I could identify who this woman was, I saw a notice that the store offers a 10% discount to customers 60 and older. My 69 year old mother has shopped here on several occasions, and as far as I know, she has never once been given a discount. Your policy doesn't mean much if you fail to implement it. I'm giving two stars because the idea of the store was a good attempt that has just been poorly executed. read more

I love shopping here and I love their little cafe with all the organic foods. Also, I don't have much appreciation for wheat grass but you can get a shot of it if you like at their cafe. Their soup is marvelous and very fresh-tasting. I wish that they carry more variety of certain things. I like buying feminine products from there cause they're chlorine-free but sometimes, they only carry a particular size and not much variety. But everything here is so much more expensive. Is it really necessary to charge that much? Dierbergs has much of what this place carries now and they have it a lot cheaper. I'm glad I checked my receipt before I left, because I was overcharged by $7 for a bottle of moisturizer. The cashier refunded the money, but she seemed less than concerned when I suggested that they fix the labeling on the shelf and/or their register. When reading reviews of this store, I was surprised to see they offer a discount for seniors. Although I am clearly almost 70, as was the elderly woman waiting on me, there was no mention nor signage indicating such a discount. After I paid my bill, I recalled discount and inquired about it. The woman said I must request it prior to purchasing. I said I expected to be reminded at time of purchase with a sign or offer. There was no empathy as she was willing to ignore the elusive discount. If they are not going to offer the unadvertised discount, then why is it only obtained by perusing negative reviews? When she was unsure of an answer she took time to search the in store book section relating to my issue. She did research with me and even wrote down additional information for me to go home with. I grew up in Edwardsville & when GREEN EARTH open I was excited to see a health food store option now available in our small town. Previously I traveled to Missouri while working in that state, I went to Whole Foods & Trader Joe's to get the specific items I could not get from a standard grocer. I've had several good experiences but one stands out above the rest. I use the young living essential oils for health purposes, I saw one bottle on the shelf , but it wasn't the item I needed. An employee walked up to me and she always has a great smile and said the owner is here she could help you. The owner came out and said I can place a special order and she did and called me when the shipment came in. It's always a friendly atmosphere & the owners has so many products to offer to be such a small store ! I personally love the store ! read more

Green earth is a great place to really round out your needs if your into health food. Their prices really seem to me a bit high, but I still find myself here once or twice a month to pick up items I just can't get at other grocers. They also carry a small selection of produce at a really great price. There is a juice bar and deli available here, just plan on a wait. There veggie smoothies are pretty awesome, you just might have to wait 10-15 minutes on a weekend. However, if you can order and look around, your bound to find something interesting. They have a great supply of organic goods. I always go here for kitchen staples. The longer the store is around the more items they seem to carry. I love the concept behind this store, and it's nice to have an option to find those natural, organic, vegan, gluten-free items when on the Illinois side of the river as there are not as many options there. But it's amazing how one toxic, rude employee can ruin what should be a great experience for shoppers, and it's unfortunate that owners/management allow this rude employee to ruin the experience for customers. Case in point -my mom and I ate lunch in the deli today for the first time, and I was excited to have a place with vegan and gluten-free options clearly listed on the menu, as well as a statement that most items can be made gluten-free. We were the only customers at the deli, and since it was our first time, we had a few questions. I asked if the soup of the day was gluten free since the sign didn't say. The blonde behind the counter rudely said, "I don't know; I didn't make it." (remember, their menu implies they are gluten free friendly.). My mom was trying to ask if onions were already included in the soup or added on top (to see if she could get without), and the blonde interrupted her and said "you can't get the soup without onions, it's not like I can pick the onions out of the soup for you." Then, when I ordered a sandwich with gluten free bread she said, "you really shouldn't get the gluten free bread unless you are like really, very sensitive to gluten because it is smaller and I have to toast it." Ok, I'm not just asking questions about gluten-free and ordering gluten free bread (at an extra cost) for fun, it's because I actually can't eat gluten. And after all of that, the deli food was just average. Certainly nothing special to have to endure such a poor customer service experience. Dear store owners, please find a more pleasant person to work the deli counter that doesn't make customers want to run away and write bad reviews on Yelp. read more

After visiting the store three times, I have given up on Green Earth. The selection is somewhat limited, but several interesting items can be found. However, the service is horrendous. I prefer to shop at small, family-owned stores and am more than happy to pay a bit extra knowing that my dollars are helping local residents and not mega-corporations. The folks at Green Earth are rude and unhelpful, bordering on surly. Furthermore, on two of my three visits, the employees were late and the doors remained locked even though I arrived after the official opening hour. They were unable to offer specific advice or suggestions regarding their supplements and one employee was unable to operate the cash register. She actually said "I don't really know anything." It's a genuine shame. I wanted so much to like them. I will happily give them another chance if they can hire a friendly, knowledgeable staff. This place is full of bulk items (oats, nuts, spices), groceries (refrigerated, raw veggies), and supplements. I especially love the deli. They have green drinks and yummy soups and sandwiches. I especially love the Reuben sandwich. If you get a chance to check out the Goshen coffee (locally roasted) which is like the Lamborghini of the coffees (my favorite is the Italian Roast. I also love to sit down and eat a yogurt outside with a friend (amazing yogurt, milk, and cheese selection) as they have a table and chair outside. Honestly, for a small town, this store has an amazing selection. They just added raw veggies that are fantastic. I was really excited to see Dandelion leaves (threw out my migraine meds and found a bunch of these work better, and give lots of energy). The people are very well versed in what products can help you so don't be shy. Ask for help. This store is a gem in Edwardsville. The store is small, but has some hard to find items. It is definitely expensive, you will pay a premium for anything you purchase. With organic and all natural items becoming more popular and more readily available at stores like Shop & Save, Schnuck's, and Dierburg's, they are going to have to find an edge somehow to continue charging the prices that they do. I have been in there a handful of times for little items, and have a couple items in particular that I really like from there, but as soon as I find it cheaper somewhere else, I will discontinue shopping there. The customer service is hit and miss, and I have had a negative experience recently. I purchased over $60.00 worth of items (easy to do in this store) and got home and discovered my deodorant was not in the bag - the main thing that I went in there for. I called the store, and of course no one knew anything about it, but offered to replace it. I was surprised, but appreciative of the gesture, so I made a special trip back up there for the replacement deodorant, but when I got to the check-out I was told they couldn't do that after all, and made me repurchase the deodorant. Yes, it was only $5.00 or $6.00 dollars, but it was more about the principle of how it was handled. They keep A LOT of random items on the checkout counter and it was explained to me that I might have just set it up there and it might have not got rang up. I forgot the receipt, so I couldn't prove that I had paid for it, but regardless, they got me with the ol' bait and switch. This kind of business practice is why I will find my items else where. read more

Love Green Earth. My husband and I visit every time we're in town. We try to be as organic as possible, but the prices are a little high there. We tend to buy most of the groceries at Dierbergs. They have a very great organic selection, much cheaper than Green Earth. BUT, Green Earth is great for supplements and vitamins and spices. And they have the BEST cola there that we can't find anywhere else. The brand is called Virgill's. Try it out. You'll love it. read more
