222 Artisan Bakery is a nice rustic old fashioned coffee shop. It is conveniently located just down the street from courthouse. Making it a great place to stop by when paying your property taxes, or when you're doing your jury duty. I'm glad to see that they are a proud server of Plaid Coffee. So many other shops use the same local roaster or one from St. Louis, so it is nice to see that they give us a Scottish touch roasted in small batches. I enjoyed an iced coffee. When I drink hot coffee, I drink it black. However, when it is iced, I need a little packet of Splenda and a splash of milk. To accompany my iced coffee, I enjoyed a Mini Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread. I was torn between a blueberry danish, blueberry muffin and the mini bread. When I asked the cashier for guidance, he recommended the pumpkin bread because it was a seasonal special. He said, the other two were always available and could enjoy them on another visit. To be honest, the mini Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chips did not impress me. I found it to be dry and the pumpkin flavor was faint, but it was chuck full of chocolate chips. Next time I'm at the courthouse paying the next installment of property taxes, I'll stop by again and try one of the blueberry treats. I think I may even grab one of the loaves of bread they had on sale. read more

First time here and it's such a nice spot. The inside is very "college town" but the clientele is varied. Suited businessmen, students, retirees, and everyone in between are visible here. The coffee is supplied by Plaid coffee and definitely seems to be of better quality. Forgoing my usual pour over I enjoyed a vanilla latte that hit the spot. I was hoping to try some of the baked goods but it seems like early afternoon is way too late because the sweet treats case is barren, which is a good sign. Instead I opted for a burrito which was simple and to the point the potatoes were slightly too raw but otherwise it was a great savory meal. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to your table or the bar in my case. Everything was prompt and hot. From here I can see many individual items for sale to-go, like tea and bread. There are also cubbies with other food items along with shirts and brewing accessories. Everything compliments each other. I can't say I'll be coming up here anytime soon, just because its out of the way for me. But next time I'm in Edwardsville I will definitely make the effort to stop by, hopefully earlier to get something sweet. read more

I've been here a few times now. The employees have always been friendly and it has a nice cozy vibe. I have exclusively ordered the a maple spice iced latte because it was good the first time and so I stuck with that. I have tried an apple pull-apart and my husband and I got pumpkin cream cheese muffins the last time we went. Both AMAZING. I also bought a loaf of sourdough bread and it was delicious. We just ate the entire thing by itself over a couple of days. Highly recommend! read more

Visiting from out of town and SO GLAD we came here. There's lots of seating, outlets to use if you want to sit and work, and all the food is delicious. Staff is super nice. Also the owners are Scottish by heritage, so their coffee brand is called Plaid, and there's a photo of "the Harry Potter train" on the wall which is in Scotland. read more

My husband really likes the Plaid Coffe, which I believe they roast themselves, and I really like their iced tea, which has free refills. I often have their breakfast burritos or their lunch sandwiches, but today I came in for a coffee and a snack. I had the strawberry jam shortbread, which consists of a heart-outline shortbread cookie on top of a solid-heart shortbread cookie and a thin layer of strawberry jam. It was delightful. I also brought a loaf of cranberry walnut bread home we with me. (Two slices were gone before I got home.) I had a flavored latte, too, but I mixed feelings about that. I've had their lattes before, though it has been awhile, and they were always great. Today it had a funny taste--maybr old burnt milk in their steamer? I don't really know, but that was disappointing. Still, may have been a just-today fluke. I would still recommend them, and I'll still go again! It's a great place to work for a couple of hours when I need to get away from the office--plenty of tables with outlets! read more

If you're wanting a fresh cup of joe for the morning or some artisan bread to go along with your soup and salad for lunch, then head on down to 222 Artisan Bakery! They make their bread and pastries fresh everyday. Also they roast their own coffee. I bought a multigrain loaf and brought it back home. I sliced and toasted it. Then lightly buttered. And wow, this was probably the best multigrain I've ever had. They also claim they have the best cinnamon rolls, so I had to try one. Sure enough, they were right. I took a bite and it was savory, flaky, and just the right amount of sweetness. If I lived in Edwardsville, I would be a regular for sure! Someone recommended this place. When I saw the menu prices I almost turned around. But the recommendation came with raving reviews. Decided to spend the money. I have no regrets. Everything was fresh. The orange juice tasted like they added every ounce of love they could muster. The burrito was good from the first bite to the last. I've been coming here on Saturday mornings for breakfast and sourdough bread and its such a great spot. The breakfast burrito and cinnamon rolls are great! I like that they will slice the sourdough loaves for you, they make really good sandwiches and french toast. The coffee is delicious, pastries & quiche are delightful and we the cozy brick and wood atmosphere completed it all. We loved it so much we came back for pizza, salads, and beer. Loved EVERYTHING! Great coffee that they roast. It was a light roast that had some great flavor. One of those coffees you could drink every day all day. Not too strong, but it keeps the taste buds active. I heard the food is very good. Also the service was great. Water was always available. I did not have any troubles finding it. Also, it would be a great place to meet before or after any event. The kind person working the front informed me they don't serve sandwiches until 11 and in doing so stopped me from looking at that menu for too long.
