Dr Shankar Bala thoughtfully detailed my daughter's orthodontic timeline, and her treatment went just as planned. Dr Bala was very helpful throughout the treatment and resolved bracket and wire issues that came up between scheduled appointments (my daughter couldn't stay away from eating popcorn at times which resulted in brackets popping off). My only complaint would be that appointments rarely began on time, but we were always one of the last appointments of the day, so that makes sense. I researched many doctors before choosing Maida Smiles. I liked the doctors there the most, and the fees were the most economical. I would highly recommend Dr Bala and Maida Smiles Dental.

Quite apart from his exceptional work - he listens to your needs and readily tries to accomodate what he can. He always surprises me as to what he can achieve and genuinely tries to satisfy ones needs. I've visited many dentists over the years and have never come across one so obliging and great at what he does. So many other dentists just do not consider all the aspects of this very personal work. They had more than a couple of resident dentists so it is possible to have simultaneous appointments for couples to save time... The whole clinic itself is small and only had three chairs for patients who are waiting. They had a bottle of water and plastic cups for patients and also free toothpaste testers from Colgate and Oral B. The receptionist is welcoming and friendly, she book d us both in and made us take a medical survey on a tablet. After about 20 minutes, the receptionist approached us and let us know that my dentist will be calling me soon but my husband would need to wait about 15 more minutes for his appointment... She gave him a voucher for a free hot or cold drink from the cafe just outside for his wait. My dentist finally called my not long after that and our treatment began. The treatment was not too uncomfortable it was pleasant for a cleaning. I had a diamond shine polish which included air polis of water and bicarbonate which the dentist said was good for removing staining... After the treatment, she showed me pictures of how plaque damages the teeth from between the teeth and how important cleaning in between teeth. She made me gargle a special nice mouthwash, my teeth felt clean but my teeth still looks yellowish... But i guess teeth colour doesn't change that quickly in one session anyway. She gave me a couple of small brushes for in between my teeth and small tubes of toothpaste to bring home as well as a string of super-floss from oral b. My husband's dentist did not give him this. But she gave him a lot of advice and recommendations about gum disease because he had so much gum bleeding. They are very good at giving advice on teeth hygiene and future treatments, we bought most of their recommendations and would follow recommended future treatments. The Diamond Gloss treatment costs £89, they will take £40 for deposit upon booking and take the rest upon completion of treatment. The whole treatment took me a little above 30 minutes. They did say around 30-40 minutes of treatment on their advertisements. If you take care of your teeth really good I guess you only need to see them once a year but if you have bleeding gums then every 3-6 months.

So I needed a cleaning and didn't want to trek back to Ireland for my usual dentist or over to Harley Str to be bankrupted. Or to the dreaded NHS. I'd never go to an NHS dentist because, frankly, I am a snob and I'd rather pay for the best treatment. They once took my ex-bf's tooth out when he could have easily just got a filling. But there was a fancy Smilepod place next to my office*. They say they take the bureaucracy out of dentistry, which I like. It's very shiny and white and fancy and Canary Wharf looking so I booked in for a cleaning. 85 bucks for the Diamond Shine or whatever. Like I said, I don't mess around. The dentist was very friendly and welcoming, I am a very skittish patient and she was very soothing. The treatment room is so tiny. Not much room to swing a cat. I thought she did a pretty good job of cleaning and was very gentle. I was quite happy with the result and she gave me some good advice on brushing etc. The prices for actual dentistry work are kind of high here, but that's what you can expect from Canary Wharf. They have after work appointments too, which you don't get with the NHS and I was able to book an appointment the very next day with no nonsense from them. * I literally am so lazy.

It's a private…read moredentist but at NHS prices - mortifyingly, not having been to a dentist in three years, I can't remember how much the damn things are in the first place. My housemate recommended it to me as she got her teeth whitened there (£200 take home) after her new patient exam and clean (£30) which all seemed pretty good value. I went along for the latter and was a bit resigned to yet another hideous dentist experience from hell, but far from it. The studio is very clean and relaxing (looks a bit spa-ish in fact, except filled with posters for good teeth) and Eva, my dentist is blonde, Swedish and knows exactly what she's doing. My exam was very thorough and my clean and polish just showed what a cowboy my childhoos dentist was: I was always used to being poked by that horrible scalpel until I bled, but didn't feel a thing beyond the usual crystals of paste flying around (=as always, that texture is just grim) I was patiently saving up to get my crowns replaced this summer at my old dentist (a squillion pounds, give or take) but am now definitely going to have them at the Dental Studio, £1000 for two porcelain ones. And who knows, I might get my teeth whitened too. God knows I've been grinning like a fool about finding a "keeper" dentist, I might as well make them look a bit nicer.

By the time I made the appointment my pain had subsided as well as the swelling. I mention this because by this time it was not an emergency. I was given an appointment to be seen by a dentist for today, March 27th. By the way Happy St Patrick'Day! Arrived for my 8:30am appt at about 8:24. The front desk was very friendly and profesional. I was given a form to fill out and surprisingly there was no sign saying payment due for services rendered. No sooner had I finished completing the form I was called in to see the dentist. Again no sooner had I entered the room the dentist arrived. The dentist, Dr Alexander Jabour greeted me with a handshake and proceeded to ask about my concern. He listened attentively, answered all my questions, examined me and took X-rays himself. He was gentle, careful, professional and most important knew his dentistry. He also was not in a rush. My experience here was great. Yes it was a dentist office, but this place is clean, professional and he knows what he's doing. After careful examination he assured me that I did not require any anti biotic. I believe he's trained in medicine and dentistry and has been at this practice for at least 20 years. I wish he practiced in my home town.

I had left my last practice partly because the dentist there had been keen on removing my wisdom teeth even though they were not causing me any problems (the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence recommend not removing them unless they cause pain or problems with other teeth). I asked the dentist here about mine and she quoted the guidance at me. She also answered my queries about gum recession and flossing. It seems a good place so far :)
