I am finding some great restaurants that serve vegan and vegetarian food here in the Valley We found this place via Yelp and decided to try - so glad we did. It was a great choice for lunch with fast, friendly service. Great menu for vegans and meat eaters alike with lots of options!! We began with a dip and cracker starter featuring Lebneh which is a soft cheese made from strained yogurt - it was delicious as were the two sauces that accompanied the dish. Then I had the Owl salad with Lebneh, strawberries and a delicious strawberry sauce. It was fresh, delicious and the perfect size. We ended by trying their vegan carrot cake which was very good! Great food and friendly service. Along the road in deep south Texas, I was pleasantly surprised to find a place so friendly to vegans. The menu was extensive and featured a large array of both vegan and non-vegan items. I initially thought the vegan lasagna would be great, but I decided to go for the tamales instead. They have three types and since the plate comes with your choice of six, I opted for two of each. The tamales were delicious, especially when paired with a light green sauce that Kassandra recommended. The cheese tamales were the best, but while the kale ones were good, they lacked slightly in flavor and weren't as savory as the others. The service was very courteous, including an apparent manager who came over to check on me. My only complaint was the juice. I wasn't intending on getting a drink, but a cold pressed juice was recommended. I figured, why not? Assuming it would be $3 or $4, perhaps slightly more, I was shocked when I found out the single serving of juice came to $7.99. Really? My $10.50 lunch quickly turned into $23 with a tip because of some outrageously overpriced juice. Since the food was so good and Kassandra was very sweet, I'll only knock off one potential star from my rating. read more

My daughter and I arrived during a slow time just after the lunch rush. This was our first time so did not know whether we should order at the counter or sit at a table. After a few short awkward moments one of the friendly staff showed us to a table. We were allowed to sample various of their coldpressed juices to decide if we wanted one of them. I decided on the raw organic Tumerick elixir, and my daughter decided on the mango tango. I can't say that it was the most delicious drink I've ever had, but it's probably one of the healthiest! And that's partly but the Green Owl is about is healthy food! My vegetarian daughter found plenty of options on the menu which was one reason why we came here. She got the vegan lasagna and said it was very good and quite filling. I got the baked, green salsa chicken chilaquiles. My entrée was just a tad dry but had a great flavor and was also very filling. I loved the style of the music which was played at just the right volume. Very relaxing. However, we did notice that at least one of the songs used the F word, so they don't always use vulgarity-free music, something to consider, especially if you have small children. I love the decorations used throughout the restaurant. Somewhat of a nature theme, done very tastefully and classy. Bathrooms are nice and clean. I'm sure I'll be back and look forward to trying some of their other entrées. read more

Today was my first dining experience out since his open heart surgery last month. I was concerned about taking him out to eat considering most restaurant food is full of sodium and processed foods. I called ahead and Rebecca was super helpful and eager to guide me through some options. She was even more delightful when we arrived. My parents loved everything especially the lentil burger, the stuffed avocado and the enchiladas sauizas. OMGGGGGGGG!!!! First time & very impressed. I had the enmoladas I was afraid to eat them all. They were super stuffed & flavorful. I ate them all I couldn't stop and I am stuffed but I don't feel gross and weighed down. My partner had the lasagna, I had to steal a bite it was quite delicious and full of flavor. Veg-friendly options Cute restaurant with variety of flavorful veg-friendly options. I've been here a handful of times. The best offering in my opinion is the vegan tamales, and they have good choices. Main issue is I don't think vegan food should be so pricey. Almost $11 for plant-based burgers isn't sustainable in the Valley, but I understand there's a low demand in this region which raises these price points. I was excited to try the desserts but was disappointed. The vegan pistachio cake was just a heavily sweetened green food coloring cake topped very conservatively with a few pistachios on the frosting. The cake itself had no pistachio. You also have to request ahead of time if you want whole food sweeteners like dates. Nonetheless, I would recommend this place for anyone in transition to incorporate more vegetables into their diet. There aren't enough veg-focused restaurants in the Valley, so it's relieving to see a place like the Green Owl. read more

Wow - we are so glad we found this place while staying in town with family. The staff was amazing and the food was out of this world!! We even purchased some of the frozen tamales to take with us to our family function so we knew we would have some yummy vegan good and out non-veg family was trying to eat it all too! Wow! For $11.50 I was served a bag of chips and a gas station sandwich. Rip off. The staff was friendly and attentive and the sandwich didn't taste bad, but they're really sticking it to people with the prices. My advice to the restaurant owners: drop the prices or increase your portions -- or both. read more

This. Place. Oh my heavens. I've been waiting for this place the whole time I've lived in the valley. I can actually trust that what they are serving me is wholesome. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and the staff is inviting. For those concerned about the price of the food, please keep in mind that good fresh food is not cheap, particularly when you're catering to a largely vegan crowd. And good grief- the food is so delicious! If sandwiches seems expensive to you, go for the tostadas, nachos, etc. The best thing I've discovered is their super healthy cupcakes; the frosting is made with avocado and cocoa. AVOCADO and COCOA. I tasted this stuff, and it's like gooey, healthy, heaven. Try this place. Your health is worth a couple more dollars at lunch time. read more

This is one of two restaurants here in the area that caters to vegans. I understand that because it's a unique concept the food will be a little pricey. However, it is still a little shocking to pay $50+ for a meal such as this: 1 vegan lasagna, 2 cups of soup, 2 cold pressed juices, and a dessert. It's 2:40 pm in the afternoon and me and my family walk in to a empty restaurant absolutely no one but the employees themselves, once we get seated it approximately takes what I think was 20 mins to just get our DRINKS. At this point I was getting a bit impatient once they decided to come with our drinks and take our order once they began cooking the lights went out I'm guessing it was the breaker that was wrongly connected with the light system in the building. I always go to Green Owl during lunch because they are quick and they offer a variety of food. To be honest, this is the perfect place to go have lunch with my girlfriend since she's vegan. I can have a delicious Panini while she has a healthy vegan meal. I have to be honest, even though I'm not vegan, their vegan posoles, tamales, sandwiches are all pretty good. It even made me doubt that it was actually vegan food. Green Owl also has fresh organic juices that are prepared every morning. The atmosphere is great and the setting of the place is very unique. There's a lot of plants all over and even though the place isn't that big, you can always find somewhere to sit do the layout is pretty nice. read more

Really disappointing. I order a panini, and got an $11 sandwich. First, the panini was using regular wheat sandwich bread. Second, it wasn't grilled, it was lightly toasted, very lightly. And last it wasn't pressed. It wasn't bad, but i wouldn't call it a panini and certainly not worth the price at all. Me and my guest left hungry. Paying was also an unpleasant experience. You use this smart tablet register. And it prompts you to leave a predefined tip while the waiter is standing in front of you. My ticket was for $24, forgive me if i thought leaving an $8 tip was unwarranted for the 2 times he came to my table during my 20 minute lunch. Overall, they do cater to vegans and the food isn't bad. But your paying quite a bit for very little. At the very least avoid paninis. read more

Loved it! Everything is 5-star worthy. The place is small but clean and neat, so it doesn't feel crowded. The lighting and general atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. Our server was friendly and knew the dishes pretty well. I ordered the vegan picadillo tacos, which were surprisingly filling and tasty. They came with a side of Mexican rice, which was also pretty good. Also tried the vegan lasagna and it did not disappoint. All of the plates were served quickly and without errors. This was on a Tuesday during lunch time, with 2 other groups there. They offer free juice samples, so we tried a few. The Iron Boost was my personal favorite, because it wasn't as sweet as similar juices I've tried. Like other reviewers mentioned, the juices are a bit pricey, but if you've been to other juice/healthy places around the Valley, it shouldn't be too surprising. First time at this place and while I welcome a healthy choice for the area, after tax and tip, the $15 salmon salad was more of a side salad than an entrée salad! The salmon was very small pieces of what appeared to be thinly sliced deli salmon. While the salad was tasty, it should be listed as a side salad at no more than 1/2 the cost! The food was great. Loved the grape chicken salad, had a cheese dip sample with crackers, the crackers were actually great with the chicken salad, which is served on a ton of greens. The cheese dip was fine, we ordered the "normal" stuff not the vegan-gluten free- etc stuff. I didn't feel there were enough regular food menu options, though, and it was expensive. The decor is very cute, shabby-chic-homey-girly. The waitress was sweet but did a terrible job, sorry. That's not her calling, that's for sure. The people over at City Cafe awkwardly stare at you through the windows. I probably won't be back soon due to cost.
