Loved the vegan tamales, especially the ones with vegan cheese!
    Quincy V.

Great food and friendly service. Along the road in deep south Texas, I was pleasantly surprised to find a place so friendly to vegans. The menu was extensive and featured a large array of both vegan and non-vegan items. I initially thought the vegan lasagna would be great, but I decided to go for the tamales instead. They have three types and since the plate comes with your choice of six, I opted for two of each. The tamales were delicious, especially when paired with a light green sauce that Kassandra recommended. The cheese tamales were the best, but while the kale ones were good, they lacked slightly in flavor and weren't as savory as the others. The service was very courteous, including an apparent manager who came over to check on me. My only complaint was the juice. I wasn't intending on getting a drink, but a cold pressed juice was recommended. I figured, why not? Assuming it would be $3 or $4, perhaps slightly more, I was shocked when I found out the single serving of juice came to $7.99. Really? My $10.50 lunch quickly turned into $23 with a tip because of some outrageously overpriced juice. Since the food was so good and Kassandra was very sweet, I'll only knock off one potential star from my rating.

    Chicken chilaquiles were delicious

My daughter and I arrived during a slow time just after the lunch rush. This was our first time so did not know whether we should order at the counter or sit at a table. After a few short awkward moments one of the friendly staff showed us to a table. We were allowed to sample various of their coldpressed juices to decide if we wanted one of them. I decided on the raw organic Tumerick elixir, and my daughter decided on the mango tango. I can't say that it was the most delicious drink I've ever had, but it's probably one of the healthiest! And that's partly but the Green Owl is about is healthy food! My vegetarian daughter found plenty of options on the menu which was one reason why we came here. She got the vegan lasagna and said it was very good and quite filling. I got the baked, green salsa chicken chilaquiles. My entrée was just a tad dry but had a great flavor and was also very filling. I loved the style of the music which was played at just the right volume. Very relaxing. However, we did notice that at least one of the songs used the F word, so they don't always use vulgarity-free music, something to consider, especially if you have small children. I love the decorations used throughout the restaurant. Somewhat of a nature theme, done very tastefully and classy. Bathrooms are nice and clean. I'm sure I'll be back and look forward to trying some of their other entrées.

Una opción súper rica y variada pero sobre todo saludable. Un lugar tranquilo para conversar. A delicous choice but mainly healthy food. A quiet place to talk. Thank you.

Wow - we are so glad we found this place while staying in town with family. The staff was amazing and the food was out of this world!! We even purchased some of the frozen tamales to take with us to our family function so we knew we would have some yummy vegan good and out non-veg family was trying to eat it all too! The juice was also super fresh and tasty! We will definitely come back to this place when we are in town!

This is one of two restaurants here in the area that caters to vegans. I understand that because it's a unique concept the food will be a little pricey. However, it is still a little shocking to pay $50+ for a meal such as this: 1 vegan lasagna, 2 cups of soup, 2 cold pressed juices, and a dessert. I had the cup of soup and a juice so it seemed excessive to me. I only keep coming back because my son has so few options as far as dining out.

    Stellar tostadas!

Their main food are - you guessed it - Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches - but with a twist. We tried the A-1 Philly which had beef, bacon, grilled onions and provolone cheese with A-1 sauce. For this one we opted for fries in a cup which are fries with bacon and melted cheese whiz in a cup. The bread for the sandwich was fresh. The combo of the flavors was really good. I'm not a big A-1 fan because it can really overpower everything it goes on, but with this one, it was just enough to give it the subtle flavor but not overpowering. Very good. The beef was soft, flavorful and moist. The fries - I was skeptical when I heard 'cheese whiz' but I was pleasantly surprised - very good. We also tried the South Texas Philly which had beef, bacon, grilled onions, green peppers, tomato, lettuce and provolone cheese. I opted to leave the mushrooms off. It was also a really good sandwich with good flavors. I order the 'regular' fries and they were that - hand it fries - prepared well. In hindsight - I'd order the fries in a cup. I was very pleased with our food. The dessert menu is extensive and their specialty is a milkshake/dessert combo. The milkshake comes in a Mason jar and then the dessert is literally on top of it. I've never seen anything like it - the presentation was amazing. We shared a Nutti Salty Shake which was essentially a chocolate shake with pretzels, a brownie and Nutella. The top outside of the cup was lined with Nutella and pretzel pieces. The brownie was tasty - the shake great - it was just a super awesome combo dessert. We would absolutely come back here!!

During my time away, I found this bagel shop near my campus and so I went. I found a way to wake up early despite hating mornings with the help of a friend. We went together and tried their bagels and I guess that memory, that taste, that connection never really went away. One night in 2022, after failing to get some sleep, I searched up "bagels near me", just like that, without any other thought put into it. I guess really what I was trying to find was ways to go back to those years that had left me already. One single search gave me a list of different restaurants but not one that actually had bagels to choose from and try. I kept searching until I read "Labyrinth BCA" and there I found what I was looking for. I went the next day, filled with hope and hunger. I parked my car towards the back of their establishment and thought I had arrived during their busy hours because the place was busy and buzzing- both good things in my head. As I walked in I immediately noticed all the colorful stickers painted on one side of the wall and these large mirrors that stood tall and mighty. The plethora of windows invited the sun in to take a peek at the people inside. I loved the look and I liked that it aimed to make you feel cozy and at home. I went up to order and was met with a young man and there we began chatting about the coffees offered. I hadn't gone for the coffee but it was there and I was curious. I told him it was my first time there and how hesitant I was to try new coffee places because I had been to many and had never found a coffee I enjoyed. Despite the busy restaurant, the man took his time to help me decide on what to order. I mentioned I leaned more towards sweeter coffees so he brought up their famous "dirty taro". I asked what it tasted like and he replied with "fruit loop milk", his honest answer not only made me smile but it led me to get out of my comfort zone and try it. I paid for my dirty taro and my turkey and egg bagel. Both amazing choices. The bagel originally comes with chipotle mayo but I substituted it for cream cheese. The combination of flavors were amazing. The dirty taro tasted exactly like he said and I wondered how long it took him to find the perfect way to describe a drink to someone who had never tried it. The drink was wonderful too. I thought back to the bagel shop from my college that was a thousand miles away from where I sat now. I thought about how nostalgia can dress like a friend and sit with you in the new places you find around the RGV. Now, I come here every chance I get and usually always try to bring a friend or a relative. I tell them about the breakfast and lunch bagels, I tell them about how cool and inviting this place is, I tell them about the owner of the place and how kind he was during my first stop here, I tell them about the taro latte and how you really can't find it anywhere else. I tell them about how special some places can be and what they can make you feel.
