    05/26/18 Green Rabbit Rågbrödsbageriet
    Michael U.

Opened by two starred Chefs, Martin Berg and Mathias Dahlgren of Matberen at the Grand Hotel, Green Rabbit is nothing if not unassuming, a simple faded awning hanging over the entry at Tegnérgatan 17 in Stockholm where a pleasant staff stands ready to serve guests from Tuesday through Saturday. Originally opened in 2014 and officially titled Green Rabbit Rågbrödsbageriet, Dahlgren and Berg's specific focus on Loaves and Pastries baked from Swedish Rye, those fortunate enough to pick Green Rabbit out amongst the pack will quickly find themselves greeted by a small allotment of tables upon entry, walls lined in ingredients including bags of Flour for purchase while the collection of baked goods stands behind glass near the register. Limited but not lacking, a collection of sweets and savories rotating based on Market availability but always including at least a few classics such as house-smoked Salmon Smørrebrød, it was with a focus entirely on sweeter things that items were perused and a small order assembled, the bagged goods taken elsewhere for consumption largely because early summer had the space quite warm and Green Rabbit does not offer Iced Coffee. Built on big flavors to compliment a rustic style of baking befitting such a toothsome grain, two pintsized Almond Cakes starting things off with just enough added sweetness to highlight toasted Nuts or tangy Rhubarb nestled in a toothsome base, it is without hesitation that all in attendance should specifically request a wedge or whole Loaf of Ragkaka, each bite loaded with Butter but different from the next thanks to ground Nuts and what appears to be Coconut while the Cardamom Bun is also good but in this day's case a little under-baked leading to soggy insides that also didn't see to adhere to the Rye concept.

i'm from Los Angeles, CA so I'm a sucker for toast and Green Rabbit makes some of the best I've ever had. When we first arrived (right when they opened), the toasts weren't out yet but as soon as we ordered coffee - they brought out a beautiful hotel tray of various toasts. I tried two - they were both on rye bread, which makes sense because it's a rye bakery & that's Chef Mathias Dahlgren's (Michelin-starred chef) MO at this cute little bakery/coffee spot: *Avocado & Hardboiled Egg Toast - This was good, but I've ever better. The avocado is more like an mousse & the egg is hardboiled. I prefer the texture on my avo toast to be chunks of avo & poached egg, so just not for me *Lox - This one was OUTSTANDING. I thought it was unique that it was topped with ribbons of candy cane beets. But, what made it for me was the soft, grated pieces of horseradish. The fineness of the horseradish reminded me of snow. I think it was a bit too horseradish-y for my friend, but I loved it. Like most Swedish places, the barista spoke perfect English & was really patient as we made our picks! 14/365

Ive been a Mathias Dahlgren fan for a while ever since he cooked a dinner I attended a few years ago. I come to Stockholm and Im hitting everything he has in the Grand Hotel. He's been busy lately as the Bocuse D'or European championships are being held and he opened the Matbordet concept which I got to go to. If you've been to these three restaurants in the hotel you know that the food is awesome, especially the baked goods. Taking that with his business partner Martin Berg, they've taken over an old bakery and focused on Swedish Rye breads. This concept has become the Green Rabbit. Crazy good baked breads are now made and to be had right across the way from another new favorite of mine in Stockholm, Mikkeller Bar. Between those two alone you could have your grains in many forms!

Small rye bakery with a few seats for those who want to sit down and enjoy breakfast there as well and that is something you should definitely do! One of the owners is Swedish multi-Michelin starred chef Mathias Dahlgren and for those who have visited any of his restaurants you know the quality to expect. The focus here is on quality rather than quantity so the breakfast is perhaps not the biggest in town but a nice selection of different rye bread with a few different spreads (one of the amazing butter). The almond cake is also to die for, I am not a pastry fanatic but these are really something different with a nice mix of a touch of sweetness and nice salt from the almonds. The place is tiny (and offers no wifi and small tables so not for use as an office) so perhaps not where you linger for longer periods of time but I do happily return often.

Really great saturday brunch (110 sek). You get coffee (from drop coffee and refill included), yogurt, bread basket and several toppings (2 types of cheese, butter, ham, marmalade and egg). Their breads and buns are amazing. Everything wit a touch of rye flour.

A very green table at Green Rabbit. And a cup of good coffee.

Green Rabbit is nice for sure, but I got some critique. Cute place at great location anyway! First, the space is tiny, so be prepared to share a table with strangers (might be hard for Swedes, but especially Finns, haha). Second, the service could have been better. I've been there twice, and both times I didn't feel myself very welcome. The closing time was over an hour away and they already started to put the coffee services away. Third, there was no espresso machine by the time I've been there. Only good tasting brew coffee from tiny cups. Nevertheless, if I remember correct, they were about to get one. So maybe you can get cappuccinos and other there now..? Enough criticizing, woah. The small interior is nicely decorated and cozy. Being situated in the corner with big windows, the space is light and perfect for examining the life happening at the streets outside. The "fikabröd" is worth trying, I have tasted their ginger-cookie and that was amazing! Location is central, nearest t-bana is Rådmansgatan. Prices are basic-Stockholm-high. All in all, Green Rabbit is worth visiting!

What a cozy lil bakery for the typical Swedish fika! We arrived just before 11:00am on. Saturday and we were the only ones inside! We were able to take out time checking out the freshly baked pastries and asked the server some questions since the descriptions were all in Swedish. Everything we ordered was delicious! I'll be back on my next trip!

The pain au chocolat was also excellent: crisp layers with just the right amount of dark chocolate. Coffee was smooth and rich, and refills on brewed coffee are free. The café has a relaxed vibe, and even though it was busy, the service was quick and friendly. Prices are a bit high, but worth it for the quality. Recommend if you're looking for a great coffee and pastry spot, convenient to city center. Outdoor seating if you're lucky enough to land a spot. If not, there's a nice park across the way, if you order take away.

Although the passageway where the interior seating is situated seemed awkward it actually worked out well. Service, despite a crowd, was fairly quick, I would rate the coffee an A or 9/10 on the scale of strength, low acidity/smoothness. It is espresso based and made to exact order. There are serval options for milk (whole, oat, 1/2 and 1/2, etc). The major complaint would be that there is no easy place to throw away your rubbish, nor is there a place that is clearly evident to bust your dishes, which is much needed given that this is a super busy place.. The staff is too busy to bus tables regularly, which backs up the availability of seating . This is the major reason for a one star deduction.. TIP: You can buy beans or ground coffee for home brewing.

We chose this place since it was 1min walk from our hotel and were actually recommended to this place by our taxi driver. We (party of 2) were seated at the bar without any wait. Ambience/interior was amazing for our last night. We ordered the toast skagen (full size) + meatballs, both were delicious (though for lactose intolerant ppl beware, as my friend and I both felt extremeeely bloated throughout the entire night afterwards), probably one of our best meals in Stockholm. Prices were slightly on the higher side (esp for the toast skagen, which has 4 halves of toasts), but overall great for a lighter meal + vibes.

We thought the food was good but probably a half-step down from some of our other dinners on our trip. My wife's chicken was overcooked, my daughter's meatballs were fine but they lacked the depth of flavor of other variants we had, and I liked my asparagus vegetarian entree but it was mostly about the sauce. We ordered their supposedly famous almonds to start but those never came. The dessert was good, with a scoop of ice cream over a simple cookie and topped with a delicious caramel sauce. Nice place. Staff was good. Love the history- you can taste it in the food. Fun place. We'd go back.

I went for a Queen's Negroni to kick things off (a dangerously smooth twist on the classic) and paired it with their pommes frites and aioli, which might honestly ruin all other fries for me. Perfectly crisp, golden, and that aioli? Let's just say I considered asking for a to-go jar.
