Remember the Scholastic book fair from elementary school? That memory came roaring back when I entered the Green Valley Book Fair! : ) This is a reader's paradise with a huge selection of books for all ages and on all topics... mostly paperbacks with some hard covers. The accessories are cute and very giftable. This is a great activity whether or not the weather is optimal for the usual/planned resort activities. The prices are very affordable and the helpful staff uses a radio system to find information very quickly. I recommend and would return.

Here's our pup and the $18 wolf.

This was so fun. There were so many kids books and teaching materials and toys. And everything was at a discount. I got a huge wolf stuffed animal that would usually cost over $50 for $18 and it was just fun to explore. Also it was dog friendly so we were able to bring my friends very old and confused dog who got lots of love and attention.

Super nice people (who accommodate wheels awesomely). Plus terrifically priced books. It's worth a stop!

Despite getting distracted by a dog she recognized (lol!), she was quick to greet us and ask if she could help us find anything. She later noticed me quizzically looking at a book and asked again if she could help me. I voiced what I was thinking at that point (because it was a very specific thought about the Italian author), and she researched the answer for me. I then asked a couple other questions, grabbed some books to purchase, and then chatted for a bit. I love that bookstores like this still exist! She also offers 10% off new books, so that's awesome too. And in the age of Covid, book-themed masks are available to purchase - they're located at the front of the store. You can find a bunch of different genres here, and both new and used titles. It's a small but mighty shop, and I'm so glad to have stumbled into it. Future trips to Staunton will have to include visits to The Book Dragon!

The advantage of bookstores that aren't Barnes and Nobles is the better pricing and atmosphere (at least in my opinion)-- and New Dominion just didn't have either advantage on a typical B&N! The prices were more expensive than most bookstores, excluding B&N of course. Further, they didn't have a sale, clearance, or just any special sections. They did have a good selection of classics. When I asked the sales associate about a book price, which was damaged, she acted offended and gave me a shrug saying that that's just how it is. I didn't mention it being damaged, I just asked to make sure that the hardback was indeed the price listed on the cover. Many of the books they had were not in mint condition and there were not multiple copies of titles so you couldn't just select another one. Might as well save the bad parking and cramped store and head to a Barnes and Noble. I try to support small business whenever I can, but this store just didn't have any perks (that I could find) above a normal big manufacturer like Amazon or B&N. I will try to visit again one day and give it another shot.
