I'm not sure if that is actually true, but more than 1 time, I made it just in time. When I first began visiting, I parked in the parking lot directly next to the facility, as it is the first parking lot you see when seeing the building, but that is not actually the right parking lot. Thank you to the kind staff person who noticed me exiting that way who made sure I knew that was the wrong parking lot. The right parking lot is gated, and on the opposite side of the building. I definitely felt better sitting in that lot for the 15 minute wait between check in and visit. There is a very large, open-air, covered waiting area with benches, bathrooms, and tiled artwork on the walls and columns. The tiles are cracked and falling apart, which defeats the purpose of having bright fun imagery for loved ones to wait at. I've never seen more than 10 people at any visitation, but I like that someone thought there would be crowds of people wanting to visit. I was very intimidated at my first visit - did I follow all the rules? But the staff has usually been patient and helpful. They give you the number of your booth when you check in, but you can't bring in any phones or paper, so I learned to write the booth number on my arm or hand with a marker so I wouldn't forget during the 15 minute wait. When they let you in, you have to know your number and find your spot. You sit at a cubicle which has a tiny bit of privacy- but not much- and look at a tv screen and talk on a hard wired phone. I wish there was hand sanitizer or wipes to wipe down the phone earpieces.

Scrambling to find testing, drive-thru testing is available at South County Civic Center 7 days a week from 9-7. We're all vaccinated and have our boosters. My husband & I tested negative last week when we flew back from Colombia so I'm not too worried, but with the holidays, we have family coming, and we all have to work in the office this week, so just to be safe. The line is long. It wraps all through the parking lot and onto Jog Road. It moves and is well organized. I got on the line at 11:15, an hour later, I'm about half way through. From start to finish it was just under 2 hours. Not they way I wanted to spend my Sunday morning, but it is what it is. Testing for both tests, the rapid and the PCR took less than a minute. Results for the rapid came back really fast. We weren't even home yet when the text came through. So what were the results...my younger boy and I are negative and my husband and the older one will be in a hotel in Miami for the next 10 days.

The office has a sign telling you who they're waiting on and letting you know when they are ready for you -- and to which window you should go. There are two service windows open to the waiting area and another one through a closed door. We were able to pick up the right foms and have some questions answered. We needed some new photos so we had these done here, as well. As a veteran, my husbands's photos were free. Mine cost $15. They only take checks or money orders. No cash or credit cards are accepted. This was such a nice service to offer here. It was so much faster with much less hassle than dealing with a larger municipality or post office.

The City Hall Receptionist was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She had me scan the QR code to secure a place in line to get our photos. The waiting area is in front of the City Council Chambers and we waited until our number was called. Second of all this has to be the worst housing authority I've come across- so bad that I ended up forfeiting my voucher!!! Riesa A Lowery the portability specialist as she calls herself is a cruel unfair heartless woman who could care less about anyone who isn't of her RACE! Now normally I wouldn't say such a thing but what she did to me needs to be known. She waited 48 days from when my packet was received to issue me an appointment and that was only after I had a social worker step in. She fails to answer calls or emails for weeks on end. When I got there it was a side show circus of the low of the low. We were all dragged into a classroom after being given recert packets that normally you get in the mail before the day of appointment- rushed to fill them out in front of about 13 families and were to pass our social security cards and licenses around a room full of people. We were then called one by one to the back of the room where everyone else could hear our business and was yelling and running in and out the door like this was a social club . All other families except mine were African American - I'm Caucasian my husband hispanic we had our child with us who had to see this nonsense- I was the first one in and the last one out. Many people didn't bring their required paperwork I however did- those who didn't caused some disruption causing everyone else to sit and listen to the screaming for 3.5 hours!!! By the time they got to me it was 4:28 and Riesa said she doesn't get paid a min past 4:30 so she told me to sign papers without reading them! As to say I received them!! and agreed to terms I never heard of before which is BS! Then for me questioning her as to how this isn't fair that I traveled so far and wasn't even really seen she gives me a $1000 voucher for a 2br when I'm supposed to get $1200 as per the website. Everyone else got the website amount but me. Then I asked if she was gonna reissue my voucher being I only had 12 days to find a place now and she said no. Mind u she was the one who wasted my voucher time by not telling me how much my voucher was before arrival and wasting 48 of my 60 days! She was very rude and disrespectful to me. In floridas market right now there is nothing for $1000! Unless u move to the "first 48" and plan to be robbed and killed. I told her I felt I was being treated unfairly and she didn't care she told me if I don't like it why don't I just give up my voucher and then I could do or go wherever I want. That's real professional! She told me that any packet I turned in to move she would deny if it was one dollar over $1000. She left me unable to find a place before returning 10 days later to my home state. She first approved all my income and papers and then turned around for me asking for her supervisors number and said now she wanted 6 months of bank and paypal statements which were hard to get without a computer and printer out of state! I had brought the requested 3 months with me. Needless to say even working with 3 real estate agents I found nothing! My voucher has run out now and still not one phone call or email from her! I'd advise not to port to this office! 10 years I had section 8 with no issues! I come here and basically lost my voucher in a weeks time!!! The place is dirty the staff are a bunch of inconsiderate people the supervisor could care less took 4 days for him to call me back! I reported this woman and this agency to HUD for investigation as to housing discrimination . I looked up ms Lowerys Facebook after my realtor brought it to my attention she's one racist lonely woman who has the nerve to look down on people who need help when she has an $8000 goal on a go fund me page for a trip to Orlando lol!!! I'm now on my own and idk what I'm gonna do. But I'm gonna fight till she no longer has a job! So much for trying to have a better life and build self sufficiency . I wasn't about to end up somewhere worse than where I came from when there are so many complexes in nice places that would have took my voucher IF she gave the right amount! I recently attended an adult Intro to Crocheting class at this library branch. I came to this…read morelocation specifically for this class, which I signed up for online as soon as the class opened up! Thank you to the awesome librarian who created this opportunity. She was so patient and kind, limiting the class to a very small number in order to give 1:1 attention to each and every attendee. I knew there would be no better place than to truly learn than in a library environment. I love our library system, and I am so grateful for this programming! The classes offer so many different types of things, and learning to hand crochet (and knit, also on my list) has been something I have wanted to learn for so, so long. I have tried before and failed, and trying to learn by book and video has just not worked for me. This in-person class allowed me to fail repeatedly until I got the basic first step. Success! Thank you again to our kind leader who only just started crocheting in the past year but loved it so much she wanted to share. This kind of intro really helped me to embrace her instruction, and her demeanor and attitude was just so wonderful - thank you so much! She also hosts a regular crocheting circle and other levels of learning at this branch. After my class, I wandered into the main section and checked out a couple of cookbooks. This was a 3.5 hour drive for a 5-10 min interview lol. It's all good though the officer was nice and personable and overall good journey.
