The receptionist Lynn was super nice and overall made me very comfortable however when I was brought to a room the so called Tech Gabbie was extremely stand offish and not friendly. She basically pushed my dog up on the scale to get his weight ( he was scared and didn't want to get on it) after that she had a rude tone and asked what I was there for and so I explained. She then began to say maybe if my dog wasn't so dirty he wouldn't be itchy. ( my dog has had allergies his whole life pretty much and around this time of year is when they start back up) I explained that to her and she got an attitude and said she will let the dr know and that he would be in shortly. The doctor came in and i explained everything and he offered a prescription for apoquel ( which so far is working great). The dr was not the most personable but overall a nice man. I'm glad my dog is feeling better and not so itchy anymore. Overall decent experience except for the tech Gabbie. Someone should really teach her some customer service.

Unfortunately, this veterinary clinic like many other others, doesn't offer any type of wellness plans to help with payments like perhaps a senior plan for not only senior owners, but maybe senior pets would be helpful. Another thing that would be helpful is if you're going to prescribe a medication that has to be compounded that you're able to to give resources on the spot to the owner, not just let the owner go off trying to find a compounding pharmacy. Going through chewy is quite difficult because of the Veterinary clinic will not confirm with Chewy over the phone, you have to send the original written prescription to chewy. Can you imagine in this day and age not taking phone calls or texts or emails or something instead of using the USPS, what a ridiculous practice. My poor senior dog needs this medication and is coughing constantly, and this is what this veterinarian gave me? Nothing to help temporarily, but of course wanting to do all kinds of tests after stating "his heart murmur is at a grade3 now, no longer a one". I literally paid what I would pay for myself a Patient First, with x-rays labs and a work up. My daughter recently talked to somebody in Prague, whose cat had open heart surgery for $100, so as you can say healthcare is not only getting bad for us. We're not gonna be able to afford it for our animals either especially with clinics like this one that tend to prey on people, or at least that's how you feel as a senior. Never mind, trying to recoup your money for your overly done, newly decorated office, why not come up with some economic health plans for people in their pets that makes things more affordable that to me would be much more helpful.. especially knowing that you're the one that helped her renovate the office!!!! I'm praying my little buddy can hold out until I get the medication to see if that works but I, again, will be seeking another veterinarian office. But fear not, Harford County is loaded with them!

Dr. Z and the vet techs are very nice, but the actual practice is not equipped to handle the volume or provide a good communication experience. The front desk staff are not helpful, and do not follow-up with you, even when your pet is due for a visit or immunizations. Ruxton is not a good place to establish your animals, and they do not care about your pets in the way that other vets can (and should!). From struggling to get an emergency appointment (that they don't hold, no matter what they tell you) to waiting 5 weeks for an appointment (when you're already established) to threatening calls from their new Practice Manager, Christy, when I expressed my disappointment, Ruxton has embarrassed themselves over and over. We had high hopes for Ruxton after being a customer for almost two years, but were gravely disappointed within the last few months. If you value your pets health, (and your sanity!), I would strongly encourage you to not take your animals to Ruxton.

She couldn't move her rear hip and leg. she scooted and was fully aware of her fear and pain while her loved ones tried to hold her and comfort her. Finally she was given sedation which put her into a frantic, shaking, saliva dripping, struggle. No vet or tech was with us. Finally after what seemed to be an hour it was over. I have never been confronted with such a horrible experience of death. Over my life I've had many pets. Even the initial diagnosis was incorrect. I would never recommend an animal be entrusted to the care of Caldwell.

Friendly staff and peaceful setting. They made a good effort to schedule me quickly and are…read morereasonably priced. Easily 5 stars initially. However after my cat rapidly lost half her bodyweight and was obviously very boney and barely eating 40cal/d which I communicated, I was told she was a healthy weight with some mild anemia and elevated liver enzymes and to try an IBD diet for 8 weeks. Even at a follow up visit where I said she hadn't eaten in two days and throwing up repeatedly I wasn't advised to go to the ER and was told to be more consistent with the food prescribed despite her not eating it at all. Within two weeks of the initial appointment she passed from large cell lymphoma after not eating for nearly a week and unable to swallow pills to calm her for the final exams. I rushed her to a different vet 10 days following IBD treatment who said her liver enzymes from the original test were very bad and her X-ray from this vet was overexposed and unsuitable for analysis. She had me in the ER after 5 minutes. By the time she was diagnosed she was too far deteriorated to start treatment and was euthanized at home as peacefully as possible after days on an empty stomach. She was sweet and dignified to the end but was suffering immensely when you consider the circumstances. I do not understand how that rapid of weight loss & no appetite did not trigger more urgency from this vet & am frustrated about being misleadingly reassured about her weight loss and "mild" test results while there was still weeks to react. I was told her excessively protruding spine and pelvis was healthy. Had the situation been properly assessed we could have had enough time to start chemo and give her more peaceful final days. If your gut is telling you the diagnosis is outlandish be sure to follow it. This was a 4 year old cat. I was not aware of large cell lymphoma, the deterioration timeline and that all food intake can quickly stop and destroy your options. These are the risks I expect the vet to communicate immediately rather than put her on a fail first treatment plan suitable for mild weight loss. I had a better innate grasp of the urgency and better diagnostic intuition on my own after only several days of research and should have immediately ignored this vet and gone to the ER. Even AI was better at respecting all my observations and lab results. The level of grief I have right now is unbearable.
