I had a surgery scheduled. They called and canceled due to a family emergency. That is completely understandable. When they called to rescheduled, I was pushed back 2 months before I could get scheduled again. I couldn't accept that for my dog. I found a new quality vet. I have a wellness visit in 2 days and the surgery scheduled in less than two weeks. I've always had quality care at Rock Spring vet. But I also felt like they did not care about my dog with his surgery back 2 months, unacceptable. I wish I didn't have to take this action. I just called and requested the records for our elderly dog with a broken foot be emailed to a new vet, and was informed that Dr Scacia? had "terminated" our services, and that they would not do so unless she (the good doctor) were consulted first. I think I know everything I need to know about this business, their customer service, their concern for an animal in distress, and their level of commitment to a family that has been using their services for who knows what maybe a decade. If you are reading this - just avoid this vet, avoid the owner, choose somewhere else to go. She's a nice enough person, but a little bit of an oddball - but wow, if you get into a disagreement with her, look out below, because that's where the relationship is headed. Anyhow, there's no shortage of veterinary practices to choose from - so just - ya know - trust me a bit on this one and move on to the next option. Deeply Disappointed and Shocked by How Our Senior Dog Was Treated Rock Spring Veterinary Clinic has been our family's vet for over 11 years. All three of our animals have received care here, and we've been loyal, never missing or arriving late to an appointment in all that time. We've spent thousands of dollars on their services and always hoped to continue doing so. Unfortunately, recent experiences have raised red flags around overcharging, and today's events with our oldest dog, Bonnie (our sweet 11-year-old Golden Retriever) have left me shocked and heartbroken. Bonnie recently underwent surgery to remove what turned out to be a large cancerous tumor. The clinic received the pathology results but never called us; I had to follow up weeks later, only to be told it had "slipped past them." Now, about 2-3 months post-surgery, Bonnie is in increasing pain, struggling to walk, and can barely manage stairs. A new growth has appeared. Desperate for answers about her prognosis and pain management, I called late yesterday and was offered the last appointment for today (Saturday) at 12:30 pm. I arrived on time, but the front desk informed me that my appointment had been listed as noon and that I had "missed" it. As Bonnie sat crying openly from anxiety and pain in the waiting area, a staff member told me that Dr. Scaccia refused to see her because of the supposed missed appointment. I begged them to reconsider, explaining that Bonnie is elderly, seriously ill, and clearly suffering. The staff member went back to ask again. Dr. Scaccia still refused unless we waited until 1:00 pm--and then agreed to charge us an "emergency vet fee" on top of everything. We had just spent thousands on her recent surgery. We were not late according to the appointment we were given hours earlier. Our loyal, long-time dog was visibly distressed right there in the office, yet the priority seemed to be the schedule (or lunch/end of shift) rather than a sick senior patient's welfare. I had to get Bonnie back up into the van and leave without care. Dr. Heflin has typically seen Bonnie and has always been kind, so this response from Dr. Scaccia was especially surprising and disappointing. We have never been late or missed one appointment at the clinic. After 11 years of loyalty and significant investment in their practice, it feels as though overcharging and strict scheduling have taken precedence over compassionate care for a beloved family member in her final chapter. I never expected to have to write a review like this. We are now actively looking for a new veterinary practice that puts the well-being of our pets first. Bonnie deserved better today. read more

I took my dog Snuggles who was 15 yrs old for her shots that were due in October. She was not sick and was doing extremely well except arthritis. She was mostly a house dog and was small (under 10lbs) I always kept her shots up to date. She got her bordella shots and whatever else she needed because she went to the groomer . This was October 16,2024, A few days after the vets she wasn't acting like herself then I noticed a her starting with a small cough. The more I thought about it the more angrier I become because the first thing I thought was kennel cough. We had the vet Dr Gibson and yes we had an appointment. She kept running back in forth rushing around going back in forth into the back. She kept apologizing. Not one time did she EVER hold or examine Snuggles . I also had my cat there but he was not sick I brought him to get flea meds. She kept asking me if I fed him dry cat food and i don't her he does not eat dry cat food. She kept bringing up his weight . Not one time did she examine his body to check for masses or lumps. She never touched him. The vet tech did swipe his ear because I thought he had ear mites. Dr Gibson never examined my cat at all. She never examined Snuggles either. What I believed happened was Snuggles caught kennel cough from being on the floor where probably another sick dog had been . Sadly almost a week later it happened so fast she could barely breathe and seemed congested. She passed away before I could get her back that morning to the vets. I'm guessing the floor was not mopped properly to prevent something like this happening. I was devastated after losing her and then it turned to anger because I feel Snuggles died because of taking her to Rock Spring Vet. I wished we would have got another vet to see us if Dr Gibson was so busy but of course it's all about money . After Snuggles died I sent a lengthy email and no one ever responded that why I'm leaving this review. Do NOT take your pets there because I have to live with the guilt that I took my Snuggles there and I let her down because I believed in them. read more

We were going to Rockspring with our dog Kikyo since we got her back in 2023. We use sit means sit for training so they have e-collars apart of their training program, anyways so we were seeing Dr. Heflin there that didn't mind the ecollar since we didn't use it awhile we were there it was just on her Like a collar. Come this past Saturday the 15th we had to see a different vet for a new problem we thought our Kikyo was having, Dr. Scaccia who later we found out was the owner of the clinic. She comes in with the report of Kikyo's Analysis and gets down at her level and sees the collar and goes oh is that a shock collar let me just take that off and proceeded to take it off without permission. When my husband and I told her to leave it alone her respond was why, which we told her because we said so. This made her mad, which she then told us after this visit we are not welcome there anymore because she's the owner and thinks shock collars are inappropriate, mind you it's just on her like a collar we had the remote away not touching it like we do for every visit, if she would have asked us to remove it and not try to do it herself we would have. It must have escalated more ( can't remember tuned her out or my pregnancy brain is kicking in) because she just told us here is her report (didn't even tell us if it was negative or not) and told us to leave. Walking us out the door saying how she's the owner and how we are not welcome here anymore. She made me feel like a terrible pet mom and it probably didn't help that I am five months pregnant so I was crying after I asked the front desk to check us so we can get the hell out there as fast as we can. Today, I emailed and texted them to get her medical records so we can find her a new vet clinic, which they normally respond super fast this time it took them almost 8 hours to respond after I sent second email to follow up since I didn't get a responds from them. They are just very unprofessional, except for Dr. Heflin he's the only great one there that doesn't deserve to be in a terrible vet clinic like Rockspring. I am so glad to be done with them. If you are thinking of using them as your vet I advise you to look elsewhere. DO NOT USE THIS VETERINARY CLINIC! I wish I could give no stars but we have to do at-least one which we will give it to Dr. Heflin the only reason we stayed there this long for. read more

Wow! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Scaccia. She has taken care of our (3) dogs for several years now. All of them are "Special Needs" including: IVDD, thyroid, Meningitis, and diabetes. Yes, we see her A LOT. When we first came to her my Chihuahua was in poor health; he had just been diagnosed with diabetes. Dr. Scaccia worked closely with us to get his blood sugar and insulin dose regulated. She went above and beyond, even calling in the evenings to check in and see if he needed anything. Sammie, my dachshund has had two back surgeries due to IVDD. Thankfully she recognized the signs the first time, and we caught it just in time that he was able to be operated on resulting in a full recovery. She assisted us in his recovery and educating us so we could care for him properly after his surgery and recognize the signs earlier if were to happen again. Unfortunately, it did happen again... exactly 1 year later. She was slammed that day and I remember she stopped what she was doing, saw us immediately and called ahead to the hospital so we would be seen immediately. Because of her sense of urgency and caring, we caught it early enough that Sammie had surgery that afternoon and walked out of the recovery room. AMAZING!!! We moved to the area and needed a new vet for our senior mixed breed dog. Our previous vet was outstanding and I trusted her opinion 100%. I am one of those people who research a lot before committing to a new medical provider. Even more so a vet for my dog. Rock Spring is our 3rd vet in this area. The first 2 came highly recommended but why their ratings were so good baffles me. Fast forward to Rock Spring. We went there for a second opinion and never looked back. Everybody we came in contact with so far was very friendly and caring. The vet techs are thorough and take their time with pets who don't want to cooperate. Dr. Scaccia is outstanding. She takes her time, explains the whys and hows, gives options, has a wealth of knowledge - and most of all, she cares. We never feel rushed. We don't know how many more years our girl has but we know that Rock Spring will stay our vet. On a side note - their prices are very competitive! read more

I have been going to Rockspring Veterinary Clinic for 16 years and I don't recommend anyone take their pets there due to the uncaring, unloving, unprofessional and overpriced and much overrated Vet Dr Scaccia. What kind of vet complains about her work hours after telling a client that she will contact you on "her day off" ?? She does !! Here's my story: May 2018 I took my 16 yr old dachshund to Dr Scaccia who is one of the new owners, i have never had an issue with previous owner for 15 yrs. she ran test on my Dachshund and began to inform me she would email me on her day off which was the next day. I did not ask her to do this. She took this upon herself. When no email was received I called and receptionist gave me ProtocoI info and I received an email late that evening. Going on in an unprofessional manner of how she is working for me on her day off and she tries to respect that time off because she works more than 40 hours a week. Like she was doing me a favor. She went on about results but in an uncaring fashion. Fast forward til today August 27, 2018. When I contacted their practice with another concern about my dog and the uncaring vet doesn't want to treat my dog. 3 months after our interaction from email only !! Who does this ?? Not a professional!! Don't trust your pet with them !! You won't get the care and results you deserve !! read more

Very friendly & caring staff, they always have an appointment when needed and give you excellent, modern veterinary care. We've seen three of the 4 vets so far, and everyone was knowledgeable, very friendly and most importantly, took their time to answer all our questions. Prices are reasonable, and their app makes vet care even easier, and gives you points to use for discounts. We've had pets for 25 years, and this is our favorite vet ever read more

I just recently started going to this vet. It was actually by emergency. My 14 year old cat woke up in distress. I could my previous vet, although they were open they had no vets available. I looked online because I didn't want to take him to an emergency center. I thought I would try out Rock Spring. I was a complete mess on the phone, the receptionists were so kind and comforting on phone and I. Person. They called my vet to get the records for my milo! They got me in within an hour. I knew going in that Milo was most likely going to kitty Heaven. We saw Dr Scaccia she was so amazing! She hugged and pet Milo and I could see her sincere compassion for animals. She did an amazingly thorough examination. She ended up finding 2 tumors I didn't know existed. One I could hold in my hand. She said it was restricting his breathing and that at this point he was suffering. I decided to ya Euthanasia to give him peace. They let me spend quality time with him and gave him something to relax him. Although I used an entire box of tissues it was the best experience I have ever had in a bad situation. I have started bringing my puppy and other cat here and have found the prices to be comparable to other local vets and on the lower end. The compassion is amazing and that is more important to me than the cheapest you can find. I look forward to bringing my animals here for years to come. I also love that they have a children's play area inside so you feel welcome no matter who you are. In reference to the 2 negative reviews by Lucy, it saddens me that someone would have to bring down such a quality business because of their loss. I went through two other vets (Forest Hill and Hickory) before finding this place and I found a winner! Dr Gibson is fantastic. She takes her time and never rushes. The vet techs are fantastic. I have never spent more then five min in the waiting room. They always call to follow up on your visit and ask how your furry family member is doing. Highly recommend. read more

Please take your dog (s) somewhere else. We took our dogs to Rock Spring from late 2009 to April 2015 and have a dead dog because of it. Dr Svoboda is inept. Rock Spring is overly expensive. They have taken very good care our cats every time we go. You can tell they all really love animals. One of my cats needed oral surgery and they answered all of my questions and actually called me every day over the recovery process to see how he was doing. After the horrible experience at Harford Emergency and Referral Vet Clinic Rockspring Vet took amazing care of our poor feline! Doctor Hubbard was amazing! She made us at ease in dealing with the loss of our pet. In the past Doctor Savoda(sp?) extended the life of my dog. A previous vet at Hopewell Vet Clinic said there was nothing more they could do and let my dog continue to swell with fluid! Doctor Savoda helped him, and diagnosed his issue and gave him an extra 5-6 years!!!! He was a wonderful man, and the team at Rocksprings is a amazing! They are a caring staff! Never again. They FAILED to write a drug intolerance on the chart or, in fact, anywhere in it and prescribed a combination drug containing the same med to one of our dogs today. All this after the dog was made so ill the first time that it required a stay overnight and 3 GI meds upon release to combat the effects of the drug. Vets who can't read or write important information in charts shouldn't be seeing patients. This is not our first problem with Rock Spring but I guarantee it is our last. read more

My family has been going to Rock Spring since I was I'm 5th grade. We started going here because it was one of the only places that treated small animals and at the time I had a rabbit. 5 years later I got my first cat. 3 more cats and 16 years later I am now 30 and still seeing Dr. Svoboda and Dr. Schmitt. I do not really care for Dr. Melissa however she is a new vet. I now have 2 older cats one is 16 and one is 13 or 14. My 14 year old was diagnosed with mouth cancer about a month ago and both vets have taken wonderful care of him. My 16 year old recently started kidney failure and again both vets have been SO attentive of him!! I also need to add that he girls at the front desk, especially Jess, are SO helpful and understanding! I am always calling there and they never give me an attitude or push me off. While I am feeling like I'm being a pain they always make me feel like I can call any time for any reason. I LOVE this vet and HIGHLY recommend them. My TJ, Bailey, Kodi and Cooper thank them so much for taking such good loving care of them!! Lastly I would like to add that I have NEVER written a review before but I am a hairstylist and know how much an excellent review can mean, that's how much this vet means to us! I have taken multiple cats and dogs to Dr. Svoboda and now also Dr. Hubbard for several years. The staff is unfailingly helpful and kind, even when we were flying overseas and our paperwork had to be modified by fax practically at the gate! We received a handwritten sympathy note from Dr. Svoboda after one of our cats was euthanized. I can't say enough about how professionally run this clinic is. read more
