The farm was established in the 1850's as a lime kiln and quarry, and became Milwaukee's largest lime producer. My family visits for the nice craft fairs. Visiting this past weekend, my son and I were given lots of mini "tours". Just ask the volunteers for the history of the place and you will get a great explanation of lime quarrying and the building and the history. I enjoyed the Curtis house, and hearing about the gentleman that lived there, who translated Quo Vadis and had an incredible life as a statesman, and eventually "Curtis Hall" at UW-M was named after him. Trimborn also hosts several War encampments, a summer concert series, and day camps for kids. The Spring crafts show was pretty small, the Fall one is the Daddy of them all, and falls on 9/10-11, 2011.

I attended a wonderful wedding last night at the only barn wedding facility in the state. Women…read morewore dresses, skirts and pant outfits. Men wore suits, business casual and jeans. The barn was nice and clean. They have beautiful bathrooms. The wedding ceremony was at 500pm in front of the oldest hickory tree in the county. They set up 200 chairs with an aisle down the middle for the wedding party to enter. The property has a nice area to take pictures and enjoy and outdoor pre-reception. Our reception was inside the barn we ate comfortably and heard bride and groom stories, prayer, a charge from the father of the bride. Dinner was catered by Thunder Bay Grill. The wedding party DJ played nice taped music during the dinner. Dessert was a cheesecake. At the end of the reception we launched balloons with lights in them sending off in the air on a new adventure, just like the bride and groom. A beautiful night. I highly recommend this facility.

A beginning phone call with Matt, then a few months before your wedding you fill out a form with your "Must play" song list, your "play if possible" song list, and your "do not play" song list, along with the names of your wedding party and certain songs. Then I came back in the fall to see China Lights. It did not disappoint - we thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus they made China Lights almost entirely wheelchair accessible, which helped someone in my group. China Lights is a unique imagery experience, I'm not sure what else is quite like it. Plus there was a brief acrobatics show which was also fun to see. I haven't been in winter, so I can't speak to what it looks like in winter (but this is WI - so I'm not sure what you can really expect to see then). Otherwise, I recommend adding this to your list of Milwaukee areas to visit and enjoying the beauty of all that grows here, curated and in full bloom.
