I'm a business professional who happens to be home owner in rosedale but since recent back issues decided to downsize to an apartment. While waiting outside for management to return from lunch, I met a lovely elderly woman who is a resident; that's were my good experience ended. As soon as I walked through the office doors I was greeted by a snarky mouth apartment manager who drilled me regarding rental history and income. Like I mentioned I am a business professional and informed her that my income was more than sufficient along with good rental history prior to being a homeowner. The manager went on to say again "if one of these requirements are not met you'll need to get approval from our corporate office". I've never been drilled so hard just to inquire about a rental. Maybe it was the Raider shirt and hat I was wearing or maybe it was my brown skin. whatever it was I wished the lovely lady i met outside a great day and walked out. Funny thing is the snarky mouth apartment manager looked at me crazy after I told her she was being rude. Good luck to any residents or anyone having to deal with that nasty attitude. if I seen her stranded on the side of the road on a dark highway I wouldn't waste my time to trying to help, people like her would probably think I'm trying to harass her instead of help. read more

Website is misleading- No sparkling swimming pool and no hot tub. They post old photos on the website to get people to come and look and then there are no such amenities. Pool has not been operational in months and there is no hot tub. Rent is reasonable but when you choose to live somewhere with certain amenities they should be honest. read more

avoid at all cost. We stayed six months very disappointed with the interaction with management. When we moved out we cleaned it extremely thoroughly. Even had friends help. But our damage deposit was largely kept!! repairs done that nothing to do with us. The air conditioning was outrageously expensive. It was a great relief to leave. read more

BEWARE!!!! Neighbors are nice and grounds are well kept, however, .... MANAGER WILL CONSTANTLY HARASS YOU WITH UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS. Charmaine Rogers seems to be a miserable controlling dictator. Also, be prepared to give up any deposit (and some) when you leave no matter how spotless you leave your until. Maintenance issues are rarely completed in a timely manner. Don't think about asking Charmaine Rogers for anything or voicing concerns unless you're prepared for VERY DEFENSIVE response. I've lived here for 3 years and it's been great, the Complex is a pretty calm and quiet place which is a huge plus for me. Since we put our application in Charmaine has always been friendly and ready to help. when I stop by the office with questions she always makes sure I leave with an answer to said question. Maintenance requests handled within the day and if not I have a text update usually for the next day to have it handled. I really value a quiet safe place to call home and greenhaven has been that for me. read more

I cannot say or give enough praise to Charmaine at Greenhaven Apts. From the approval, the walk-through and getting the keys. She made sure it was spotless and is willing to fix whatever I need if anything happens. She has patience, she is kind, and she walks through the complex frequently which makes me feel comfortable as a resident. I know she cares about her job so much, always responds when I have a question, and is willing to go the extra mile to pick up trash as she walks around. She makes Greenhaven a safe place to live I am so happy to live here and feel blessed that she walk me through the process. read more

The apartment complex is fine. My boyfriend and I rented a two bedroom and 2 1/2 bathroom unit. The master bedroom/bath and garage were a decent size. Our living room was really small but ok for practical people. Not enough heating vents downstairs. The kitchen cabinets were outdated. The paint is cheap especially around the windows. The carpet was cheap as well. Overall the complex is quiet and clean. They do not have enough trash containers outside, so they were usually overflowing with garbage. Additionally, the entrance gates (main and back gate) many times were faulty and left opened overnight. Sometimes for over 24 hours but would eventually get fixed. However, my purpose for this review is to provide a heads up regarding the property manager, Charmaine Rogers. I would describe Ms. Rogers as having a constipated personality and very little people skills. She is not friendly at all and has awkward, defensive communication issues even when the conversation is a simple matter. It's her first reaction which is odd and so unnecessary. She is not interested in helping people at all. She will avoid doing this as much as possible. It's pulling teeth with her. I wonder if she hates her job, hates people, hates helping others, or a combination of all of them. Ha! We met at least 6-8 people who lived in different parts of the complex with the same issue. In fact, the idea of commencing a petition against her was brought up. It never happened but that was very telling especially because it was in the beginning of our tenancy. Mail theft is a problem there. We lost over $400.00 in one day. Although I reported three people witnessed an odd man in a bike collecting random packages, Ms. Rogers would not provide courtesy notice to everyone. I thought an e-mail providing notice was warranted and protective of the community but again her response was short, ridiculous, and dismissive. I did not demand a refund or replacement of my packages. I politely suggested a courtesy e-mail. Especially since under CA Civil Code, landlords have a duty to provide reasonable notice of foreseeable crime on the property. She admitted via e-mail mail theft was a problem. So, in other words, they are aware but do not care to help and fulfill their duties. So, this place is fine. Nothing special. Just watch out for Ms. Rogers and good luck communicating with her. Make sure you complete the initial and move-out walkthrough with her. Hopefully she changes her lousy attitude to become a better, polite property manager. read more

I have lived here for 8 years and up until the past 6-9 months was very impressed. However, for whatever reason(s), currently management does not respond in a timely manner, and the common areas have not been kept up. The pool has had tile that needs replacing, the pool furniture needs repair or replacement and the sprinklers are leaving brown patches in the lawns as the sprinklers have not been adjusted or repaired recently. I asked for the pool area to be cleaned off after ducks camped out and left their waste, and when that was not addressed I asked for a working (the one at the pool was cracked and broken) hose so I could hose off and clean the pool deck myself. Still n o hose or cleaned pool deck, several weeks later. Communications works as long as you use the internet, calling does not seem to work, call backs sometimes never occur. I really like this property and hope executive management or ownership would pay closer attention. read more

BEAWARE, For what your going to pay this is what you will receive. The management company on and off-site does not care about you the renter or the constant break-in's in this community. Our family and neighbors have been broken into and the landlord living here to include ownership DOES NOT CARE. If you don't believe this post, go door knocking in the community and ask the residents. The residents wish the management in this apartment community would be more proactive with the high theft crimes. The answer tenants get from the manager is, "Crime is everywhere in Bakersfield and to watch the T.V." This is not being proactive. The apartments look beautiful, the location is great, the theft is high, only because management allows it to happen with ZERO safe guards. The residents are getting together to protect themselves since management will not do that for them. Constant transients entering the so called gated community. Again don't believe me, go door knocking in this community or contact he police department to find out how many reports have been made in this location. bad management and ownership. read more

SUMMARY: Convenient and fun place to live; absolutely worth the price. FULL STORY: I lived in a 2-bedroom unit in the 901 Mohawk community for the past year and was really happy with the experience here. I'm moving away for work, but I would be staying at 901 if I were staying in Bakersfield -- have recommended it to lots of friends. The staff is outstanding, especially the Property Manager (Maria!). They have always been friendly, professional, and extremely helpful. I felt like I was being welcomed home every day, even before I got to my unit. The complex gates close automatically, and the easy on and off Lennox and Mohawk are super convenient. Mail and packages were always taken care of, and I could pick things up easily, even if I got home after midnight. Everything in the unit worked well. I literally only had to put in one maintenance request for the entire unit over the course of the year (air conditioning -- couldn't be fixed that night, but was fixed early the next day). The outdoor space, pool, etc were kept really clean and beautiful. I liked seeing all the grounds kept up, the immaculate streets inside the complex, and the gorgeous greenery throughout. It was a true pleasure to walk through the paths, and jog on the very low traffic, completely self enclosed street that circles the complex. Despite being on a busy intersection in the middle of Bakersfield, the complex is very quiet overall. There was never a time that I could hear neighbors.. many neighbors had children who would occasionally play in and around the pool, which you could only hear by stepping outside the unit. The laughter of children is always refreshing. The gym is really bright and convenient if you need a place to workout, and the free WiFi in the gym/pool area was super nice if you enjoy watching netflix or etc while working out and relaxing. One feature that drew me to the complex was the attached parking garages for every unit... most nearby apartment buildings nearby completely lacked good parking options. The garage had plenty of space, and there are easy outdoor parking spaces for guests that are literally ten or twenty feet away from every unit. And you reallllly can't overstate the convenience of having most of the food options in the immediate area, within easy walking distance and super easy driving distance. There's even a full fledged supermarket just three big blocks down California. Note: The online resident site is useful -- you can easily communicate with the property manager, submit maintenance requests, and etc. read more

While this complex works hard on its promotional image, and is easy to spot in most vacancy listings due to its SPECIAL! SPECIAL!! ads, I urge any prospective tenant to ask themselves what kind of place they want to commit to before shacking up at Greenhaven (I offer my own answer, of course, at the end of this review). It says something that when I let a neighbor know that we were moving out, his response was instant: "Yeah, we're ready to leave soon too. This place kind of sucks." For background: I'm a serial renter. I tend to stay 2-3 years before a job or other life event takes me somewhere else, and I love being able to change up the scenery and start fresh. The tradeoff is that I always risk landing in a place that has subpar management, or is in the deposit-keeping business rather than the rental-upkeep business. I've been fortunate to have some great property managers, and so I know what a good job looks like. So let's talk Greenhaven. What you will love is that it really does live up to its name: the common areas and landscaping are incredibly green. Even in an historic drought, the management works hard to keep the sprinklers running (even after it's rained!). It makes this a nice place to walk around, especially at night when the hot summer days become slightly more bearable. I spent a good deal of time in the pool area, which is well maintained and adorned with patio furniture during the warmer seasons. It's common sense, but don't let the gated entrances fool you into thinking that this is a safe enough area for you to leave your garage open at night. We made that mistake, and were robbed. That's not the fault of management - we just mistook the area to be a little more secure. Maintenance is not always done timely or completely. Less than a year into my tenancy, a pipe burst, leading to a leak in the ceiling above the garage. It required a repair of the pipe (which the plumber noted had already been given a "quick fix" sometime prior) and a patching up of the ceiling. This alone took upwards of 2 months to complete, after multiple follow-ups (and a highly unnerving gaping hole in the garage ceiling), and ended with with a big discolored patch where the contractor hadn't bothered to finish the job by painting the drywall. We left it alone because after 2 months, you're just tired of asking when stuff is going to be finished. Fast forward to move-out time, guess what shows up on one of the many bills that was taken from the deposit? "Paint garage ceiling". That's a nifty little trick, isn't it? Leave the job unfinished so that you can charge the tenant for the rest at move-out. Genius! Common area maintenance can be scheduled at seriously inconsiderate times. You may love those lush, green trees in the complex, but will you feel the same way about living there when tree trimming, which features a constant motor of chainsaws literally right outside your windows, starts up at 8am on a Saturday? Hopefully you and your kids are already up, because someone already made the decision that you should be! So you can guess what move-out and the settling up of the deposit probably looked like. Here is a fair warning to those who fall into these common cheap tricks: The complex will charge you for paint, with complete disregard for the 2 year useful life rule of thumb that most responsible landlords abide by. And TAKE PICTURES. It does not matter how much you clean. They will charge you for cleaning (and then some), and if you're like me the list of things you cleaned will not only include, but be LONGER than the list of the services Crystal Clean Homes provided. So ultimately the question you want to ask is, "What kind of place do I want to live?" If you want to live in a place where care and cleanliness is recognized, timeliness and responsiveness are simply the way that work gets done, mutual respect is upheld between both tenant and property management and there is no attempt to nickel-and-dime you once you have fulfilled the terms of your lease ...well, then you might want to keep looking for your next home. read more

I would like to say that Greenhaven Apartment homes is a comfortable environment for families to live in. I've been here 2+years and I don't have any complaints. I've spoken to several residents who have been here several years and they're beyond pleased. The apartments manager has been exceptional in managing the complex. Near 5 year resident. The past 9 months have been challenging. We were never informed that the on-site manager would be unavailable so often. I'd like a dollar for every time I've seen someone standing at the door reading the note or the clock saying "back at whatever". Saw a man take a picture of it the other day. I never see the manager showing apartments, and it used to be, not a day went by when they weren't showing. The amenities have basically been destroyed. The pool area is not cared for, broken tiles, torn furniture, garbage left behind by residents who don't/can't follow rules. Biggest problem we have is people not reading the rules and following them. It's not that hard. We had an inspection in the Spring, and I shared that the linoleum in my kitchen was disgusting no matter what I did to try to clean it, and the manager sounded so optimistic about it being replaced. No word. Said she couldn't rent it this way, and yet, after reading the previous reviews, perhaps she's banking on us moving, and paying for the new floor after we go. I'd like some fresh paint, too, but honestly, I feel like it would just be more trouble than it would be worth. We have put up with a lot over the past years. Problems we hoped were solved. The parking of industrial vehicles where they absolutely shouldn't be, abandoned cars with cobwebs on the wheels, screaming children (I mean sweet Jesus, she's at least 5) someone save us and tell her to STOP, the robberies, young kids climbing over the wall to wander the property and wreck havoc, the man who climbs over the wall to rummage through our garbage. Scares the crap out of people when we open the gate to toss trash. White Ford Focus parked in front of the trash area this morning. I didn't bump it, but I had to work hard not to. We like to think we are a community, but when I say things like that to the manager, I think her eyes just glaze over. read more

This place is unsafe!!!. Car was broken into twice and apartment was robbed this last time. Lighting is completely inadequate at night perfect for thieves. Management has been terrible and they informed me that they have not had security here in over a year and have 0 security cameras. Despite being off of a busy intersection with all sorts of people crossing by. This last time I was robbed, I decided to see if landlord would mutually end month to month lease (essentially forgoing 20 days of notice) and they were totally unwilling to work. Just repeating over and over that no security is guaranteed in the lease and thus I must pay 30 days worth of notice for vacating 20 days early even though I'm paid through to the end of the month. I heard a year back other neighbors also had break ins and nothing has been done. Either way I am out of here just turned in my official notice. read more

I have been a resident of Greenhaven for 30 years (since 1986). Believe me, I could have relocated any time, but, this is a beautifully maintained, secure and quiet complex. The GSFI management is top notch and always has the "customer's" comfort and needs at the top of their priority list. Prior to my retirement, my job required me to be away from home a lot and relocate periodically so I opted to go the apartment route. The final move of my career was to Bakersfield, CA and I feel fortunate to have found such a nice place to live. They call these apartments, but, they are more like townhomes with spacious floor plans, attached 2 car garages and amenities such as fireplaces, a beautiful pool and professionally manicured landscapes. read more
