The negative reviews on this location are ridiculous, and all but one of them come from accounts that only post negative feedback, and none of them lived here. I have lived in Polo Villas for nearly 2 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. I get to watch my rent money go towards improving the complex and serving the residents almost constantly (security cameras, landscaping, re-paving, and more) - rent which is more than competitive for this part of town, I'll add. It is a quiet, clean, and well-built community. The walls are certainly not paper-thin as one user posted, and are on the thicker side in my opinion, having been to many other complexes in town. I hardly ever hear my neighbors or any street noise. Any issues with the unit are promptly addressed, usually within 24 hours. I'm planning on moving near the end of the year for more space and the ability to have animals. For now, the cats will have to stay with their grandparents, since Polo Villas unfortunately does not allow pets. read more

Cockroaches coming up from the flooring or through the walls, dead bugs scattered in spots, thin walls with a lack of sound insulation between neighbors sharing walls and flooring/ceiling. The yard/ landscaping is nice and quiet, but I don't live outside. I didn't expect to see bugs crawling out of the floor/ walls right after moving in. Submitting noise complaints is very difficult. I'm not sure how many people bother doing so, but when my neighbor's kitchen wall shares my bedroom wall and both lack insulation, what can one expect? read more

I had issues with bugs coming up from the baseboards in my living room & I would find baby roaches & huge roaches. My neighbor had the same issues. They would spray but the bugs still kept getting inside. The spray wasn't helping and you think they would try something else. I was told in an email that having bugs isn't uncommon. It was unlivable having bugs constantly and they wouldn't let me break my lease. I made sure to save all my maintenance requests and emails. I couldn't handle the bug spray smell anymore either. It was making me feel sick. It was embarrassing having family or friends come over and seeing bugs in my living room. It took forever to get calls or emails back. I was never late on rent, very quiet tenant, and took care of my apartment. Very disappointed! read more

I love this complex! it is clean, safe, well taken care of, and beautiful. Management is very helpful and responsive.

If there is an option to put zero stars, I would. I have never encountered discrimination in my life until I came here to inquire about potentially living in this apartment complex. I came in with my fiancé hoping there would be an apartment available since we saw online that there was an opening in July. Right when we walked in and asked if there were any apartments available anytime soon, the lady working at the office told us there's nothing available at all. But when I showed her the listing on apartments.com she all of a sudden said there is already ONE application for it. She didn't even give us an application to apply for it. She judged us right off the bat when we first walked in and I just have no words for her actions. Since I cannot reply to the business managers comment. My finance and I definitely felt discriminated because we aren't an "ideal" couple. The lady that was in the office definitely judged us right off the bat. Right when we walked in, she didn't greet us, she just look at us until we greeted her first. We asked her if there are any listings opening up but she still said no until we told her about the apartments.com listing. She could've mentioned it when we simply asked the first time. She could've at least sit us down and put us on a waiting list. We went to other apartments right after this to inquire and although there weren't any listings, they still gave us their time to sit down and look at upcoming dates for available apartments. It is hard to find a community as fun, clean, and well managed. Shelley goes way above and beyond what would be expected of her by organizing fun community events, ensuring all maintenance requests are processed appropriately, and is a blast to hang out with. She knows how to engage her residents, and is on top of lease renewals and communicating with the new renovations that are coming that will make this complex even more of a luxury retreat. If you can get an apartment, don't wait, because they fill fast. I love living here, but Shelley makes it truly the best part. The units are clean, big, tall, and have nice amenities for a very good price for the area. Check out the other place nearby. You will be back -- that is what I did. There was no way I would live in the other closest communities after seeing this one. It is a hidden gem! read more

I lived at Polo Villas for 23 months and have absolutely nothing negative to say about the complex, the management, or the neighbors. My girlfriend and I simply made the decision to move out for more space. I relocated from Minnesota for a teaching job, had never been to Bakersfield before, and shopped completely online for apartments. I chose polo villas for the location, as well as the reasonable price for the area it is in. The grounds are kept Incredibly cleans and if there is trash in the parking lot, I have seen the tenants picking it up and throwing it away themselves on multiple occasions. They are currently updating many different things on the grounds, and it does make me a little sad I won't be around to see the finished product. read more

Called in recently to inquire if it was possible to get a letter sent to my old address. Under normal circumstances, I would have gone through the traditional route, but given the sensitivity of the matter, I figured I could ask the manager she could ask the recent tenants if I can get my mail. I spoke to Shelly, on the phone who handled the matter poorly. I'm not sure what kind of day she's having, but she didn't have to be rude nor did she have to raise her voice. She had two options: offer to ask the recent tenants if it were possible to get that mail or politely come up with something like, 'I'd love t to help, but we have policies in place that prohibit us from inquiring. (Which I doubt you do, but that's not the point..) The point is, the latter is more tactful that yelling. I don't understand how someone who works in management doesn't know how to brainstorm another way of responding to that kind of inquiry. Shame on Polo Villas for the abysmal display of customer service. When you are in a profession which serves the community, you should be cognizant that your conduct is on public display. If they can't even be polite (the basics of customer service) over a frivolous issue, would you trust this place to handle more complicated ones as a resident? Do yourself a favor and skip this place.. Furthermore, some (negative) key highlights that I refrained from mentioning in my previous positive review are.. 1. The layout of the apartment is small and awkward. 2. The walls are paper thin. I could hear my neighbor's conversation through the wall. 3. Because of #2, if you live downstairs, the noise from upstairs is more apparent. My neighbors had moved 3 times during my 1.5 years as resident. 4. Crime: There are a significant amount of break ins in that area even though it is a gated community and there are squad cars on campus. The price of these apartments is on the high end for the Bakersfield area; however, you certainly get what you pay for. The grounds are well-kept, there are many amenities such as the pool, jacuzzi, community room, and various social events for residents. The apartments are spacious and have plenty of natural light, and the community is gated. Residents are given a personal covered parking space. In my experience, the manager, Angelica, has been great about responding promptly to any of my inquiries or comments. When she first began working here, I had some questions for her regarding my lease and she emailed me back almost immediately, even though it was after-hours. Even aside from that first time, each instance I have needed to contact her she has responded clearly and promptly. In fact, since she has become manager, she has implemented aesthetic/safety changes such as re-paving the entire parking lot as well as changing the policy on internet/cable allowing residents to choose their own service rather than the stock BrightHouse cable/internet formerly a mandatory part of the lease. She communicates with residents often, sending frequent updates and reminders about upcoming events or things which have occurred in the complex. Whoever was complaining about the robbery which happened recently - a gated community is a deterrent to crime, not an 100% guarantee that no crime will occur. I have lived in this complex just over a year and this is the first instance of crime I have been aware of. It is disingenuous to blame apartment management for an event out of their control. The area around Hageman and Jewetta is, in general, a safe and low-crime neighborhood. Additionally, complaints about rent being raised should presumably be both blamed on and addressed to the owners of the complex rather than the management. Once again - you get what you pay for, and more. In my experience, these apartments are well insulated - I have never heard my neighbors entering/exiting their apartments, playing music, etc. Polo Villas is an upscale, quiet, well-maintained community, and the residents are (in my experience) friendly and courteous. As a full-time student working two jobs, this complex is ideal in its location, amenities, and quietude. I plan on living here for a few more years, and would fully recommend it to anyone looking for a good place. read more

Single male who was hardly ever home, had guests over only three times in the whole year, not one party, and kept it very clean and neat. After lease was up thoroughly cleaned my apartment. I had some nail holes in the wall where I had put photos and frames up that I didn't fill in myself and for that they took $800 out of deposit. That would have been no more than $50 for spackle and a gallon of paint if I had done it myself. Watchout for the bull$h!t when it comes to deposit. I was moving job locations and didn't have time to fight this legally as they were being obstinate about it. read more

I have lived at Polo Villas for over 10 years now! I always have found the staff friendly and attentive! The complex itself is a quiet, well maintained , modern, gated development . The unit I am in is a 1 bedroom apartment with a nice layout, with walk-in closet in the bedroom, large size bathroom , modern kitchen and a laundry room with washer and dryer! Great location and great price for this apartment complex. Convenient features such as online payments and online applications. Ive been here 6 months. Very quiet and safe area. Apartment manager is friendly and handles all request immediately. Maintenance requests are handled usually same day. Very well kept landscaping as well and plenty of parking space!! My only issue is poor cell phone reception and lack of fitness center. Would recommend to anyone. read more

We just got a community email today about a robbery in our complex, it's a gated community and still there was a robbery, it's not safe here, take your money somewhere where it is. They are raising the rent...AGAIN...things may look nice on the outside, the reality is that you will have so many added expenses, think about this, what complex in Bakersfield doesn't have ceiling fans? With temperatures being what they are you will see an AC bill off $200 just to stay cool when it heats up here. The on site manager is a jerk, the pool is freezing cold most of the year and while it may look nice on the outside the reality is, it's just an average complex, you can do far better elsewhere. One last thing, there are certain nights (this isn't the fault of the complex of course) when the stench of horse s*** / piss / a** is in the air, it's the location of course but that smell, nasty. That is not all of the time of course, like I said, it's the location but that's one of those things you don't know about until you live here. Well I have to say it saddens me to read such ignorant reviews. First, living in a gated community apartment or home doesn't guarantee ZERO theft. Yes it will put more of an obstacle in thieves way BUT if someone is desperate enough to steal then guess what... nothing is going to stop them. I couldn't be happier that Angelica is so diligent in keeping our community informed. She does the best she can. Be proactive renters and get renters insurance and make sure your apartment is secure before you leave. Get rods to stick in the window. Do what you have to do as a renter because SHE is doing what she can as a property manager. Second, you get what you give. There has never been one moment that Angelica has been anything less than amazing to my husband, myself and our crazy little 2 year old! From day one she has gone above and beyond what she needed to and with a smile on her face. I have never even sensed the slightest bit of attitude from her. I moved in to Polo Villas villas July 2015 when I landed a job in Bakersfield, this was the first time I going to be living away from home so I was nervous and since I am afraid to be home alone and such, I wanted feel safe therefore selected a quiet gated community. I have been very happy with the community at Pollo Villas, very quiet, neighbors keep to themselves but are pleasant (they say hi, but aren't nosy) any time I needed maintenance they came within the week. The front office people are also very polite and professional! If I was getting married and moving in with my fiancé (he lives in another city) I would love to continue staying at Pollo until we decided to get a house. Towards the end of my one year lease there were reports of car thefts and such, however I must say, that was due the fact people were aiming to be targets themselves leaving valuable stuff visible in cars. Also, we must keep in mind even though we are in a gated community we can not be careless because a gated community is not fool proof for thieves, we need always be aware of our surroundings. Over all loved this community no complaints as close to perfect as can get for living accommodations. My apartment was an upstairs one bedroom unit. read more

I have lived in Polo Villas for almost seven years now. The place is clean and quiet. Whenever I've had a maintenance issue it has been taken care of quickly and professionally. The office managers throughout my time here have always been friendly and helpful. The apartments are well built which helps with any noise issues occurring. Yes it would be nice if my rent did not go up every year, but moving somewhere else to save just a little money would not be cost affective for me. It doesn't matter how gated a community is or how many cameras situated around the grounds there are at some point someone will probably have security issues, I feel completely safe here, but you must follow basic common sense practices like locking your door and keeping a light on whenever you're going to be away for several days.
