Carol and her team customized our space beautifully with attention to every detail. Finding a designer with an architect, carpenter, electrician, and painters as talented as Swift Morris Interiors was no easy task. This was a big project for our growing family and we wanted to make sure that it was done well and within budget (we don't have $$ to blow on fancy details). We chose Carol after seeing her work in another condo within our building. The craftsmanship and design were unique yet tasteful and done better than anything I've seen. So after several interviews with other designers, we selected Carol and team and could not be happier with the results. As with any major renovation, it was hard to live through. Many decisions needed to be made and Carol helped to guide us through this period. And like any major renovation, it does cost more than you planned and may take a little longer, but the choices made were well worth it. For example, lighting is an enormous expense. Much more than I had planned. While I would have been fine opting for fixtures from places like Restoration Hardware, etc, Carol insisted on a more unique vendor that truly brought character to our home and is the first thing people notice and compliment when they come over. It's not "showy" and wasn't a much bigger expense than if I had purchased from a mall-vendor, but it fits so well in our home, making it uniquely ours and has already added value to our condo (should we sell). Same with painting and color choice. Who would have thought that a salmon color would be the perfect choice for our mudroom? Not me. But Carol had a clear vision for this room, which is the most functional room in our condo, with plenty of storage to fit 2 bikes, 2 strollers, etc (it's not often you can that in Hoboken!). I found Brooklinteriors on instagram and was originally struck by how, unlike many designers, Alicia did not adhere to a single style across all her projects, but really understood the style of each client. I checked a bunch of her references (because I was very nervous about finding someone on social media!) and they all said the same thing: you get so much more than what you're paying for when you work with Brooklinteriors. I have found that to be true a hundred times over. Alicia helped us put the finishing touches on our home renovation project--sourcing and positioning cabinet pulls, fixing lighting problems, and designing and upholstering a window seat cushion. Then we moved on the furnishings--the fun part. After creating a inspiration board, Alicia researched and presented me with many options for dining tables, couches, chairs, and more. I was struck by all the interesting, often local, and affordable companies she sourced pieces from--pillows from two sisters who are based in my neighborhood, a USA made leather ottoman with a cool table that nests on top-- she introduced me to so many brands and craftsmen that I had never heard of! She found gorgeous art and accessories made by artists that we are very happy to showcase in our home. Alicia managed the ordering, schedule, and even a couple tricky returns/refunds for everything we picked. She is meticulous and her attention to detail throughout the entire process was super-human! Raine was a friend of a friend, and I initially liked her design, so I reached out. She gave me a good price for her services and discounts for products. But things started going downhill very quickly: - I gave her a top limit of what I could spend and her initial budget came back almost double, so we spent a lot of time whittling down the budget - She spoke disparagingly of every choice that I brought to the table, and kept telling me "I'm the professional." - She ordered a chair cover for a chair that I had, and it came in the wrong size. Rather than returning it and getting the right size, she insisted I buy a new chair! - She insisted that I order curtains that I didn't really love, and then when I still didn't like them when I got them, she said that I had to pay the return restocking & reshipping fee. And when I finally had enough and decided to end it, it just got worse: - She only accepted cash and refused to provide receipts or invoices, so when I tried to get back money that I'd already paid her for services not rendered, nothing added up. - After I tried to reach out to her about what she owed me, she stopped responding to calls, emails and texts. It got so bad that I tried to take her to small claims to get back what she owed me, but she moved. A couple times. So the court could never serve her. Well, on to the court of public opinion - be forewarned!
