They really need to start giving the option of negative stars. I called to meet with an attorney with their firm - Attorney Weiser. I was impressed with his CV. Instead I get a call back from Associate Attorney David Doria. Not so impressed. I'd called needing an attorney to help wrap up a parent's estate. Not write a new law, my issue is not brain surgery, nor rocket science. My need was not going to make case law. I just need someone respectful. There was no, sorry for your loss, nothing like that. Just a slam, bam, no thank you, mam. He was not pleasant. He was arrogant. I'd left a message that I needed someone who could wrap this up soon, so he starts up - I can't do this in 24-hours.... WTH? You can't even book a massage in 24-hours. I told him it might take 20-25 hours, so he says 30 hours? I can't get that done any sooner than two months, my schedule is full. So why did they pass me off to him in the first place if this was the case instead of having the person who took the call just call me back and say they had no room at the inn? It was not a good fit from the get-go. So he goes on to what? Show me his legal prowess? He claims that Ameriprise and Riversource will trip you up on purpose so they get to keep your money longer. This is ridiculous. Next time I speak with them, I will surely pass this message on, so they can have someone call him back. WTH? It's a clear case of an estate to be closed. No complications. I told him I'd been with a worldwide firm and was a small fish in a very big tank and when I asked for a new attorney there because the one I had had no time to finish this up...it didn't work out and I spent a lot of money for nearly hardly anything to be done in four months. He wanted to know immediately how much money I'd spent. WTH? Right? He has no time, slights two financial institutions and wants me to open my check book to him because he's curious? Everything I said, he had a reason why it was wrong and he was right - there is no way anyone who wanted the business or a good review would respond like this. I don't know this man, but by spending about 14 minutes on the phone with him, I was ready to hang up. I was polite, but I've been around the sun many years, and been in the corporate world dealing with Silicon Valley CEO's, programmers and scientists - primarily male. Nothing had gone from 0-60 like this in my entire career. Frankly, the tone, the questions, the comments.... It didn't feel like I was being listened to, or that he really wanted to make anything clear. It was like a meandering dance with a rattlesnake. Not sure where he was going to try and string next, or why. It felt like he wanted me to hang up. For me, it felt like a misogyny issue. It sure wasn't a good experience. Why would someone treat a potential client this way? This place is too busy, too rude and clearly doesn't want your business, or at least my business. I highly recommend David Doria for men, not good men, but men who don't want to speak to women. These men might have a chance at getting past the initial 14-minute call without feeling like they had their head bitten off, or needing a shower (in a bad way). There are other attorneys at this firm, but their initial protocol might be to send new business to this guy. God forbid you have a female judge. Now, like I said, this is my review of being with him for 10-maybe 14 minutes. Maybe I caught him on the wrong 14 minutes of his day. I completely lost track of time. My next call back was from a lovely attorney. A partner, whom I am meeting with later this week. I imagine it will take $10k-14k to wrap up. So that is...this firm lost roughly $928.00 a minute for the duration of the time we spoke. Maybe they should have someone else do intake with him on another phone. Have a partner sit in when new business comes in until he learns to be respectful of new business. That's what doctors do. That's what bakers do until they figure out the process. That's what sales people do. And veterinarians. Editors. Teachers. Just a thought. His CV reads that he's a really great guy raised tons of money for really worthy causes and did great things at university. It does leave out when he graduated from law school. He must have some good qualities, I just did not find them. Maybe he'd be the best attorney you've ever had. I am just pissed he wasted my time in such a frivolous manner. Jeffrey Lacy was my attorney of choice going into a devoted father's worst nightmare...a divorce with two middle-aged children. I'm an individual that does my due diligence in most things, and I began my search for an individual that could best defend my rights years prior to the day the divorce papers were filed as my attempts to engage in solutions to fix the marriage were not proving to be successful. My mother was a member of the Board of Directors at a community hospital in Long Beach. I asked her to inquire about a recommendation from those board members involved in the legal system. Amongst the board members were a few judges and attornies. From many miles away from North County, Mr. Lacy's name was presented to me as an individual that is well-respected by his peers and those working within the court system (this says a lot). When I first sat down with Mr. Lacy he stated to me "I'm going to be fair". This was all I desired. I work in a field where I see many nasty divorces in which the parents become angry with each other, fight over control of the children and the possessions, and subsequently create additional, collateral damage that is often hurtful to the children. I have been informed that some attornies have a reputation of using this opportunity to stoke the fire, and create more billable hours to their clients. Do not use Jeff or Janet Lacy. They will just run up your fees and before you know it you owe $15,000 and haven't even talked about settlement or issued discovery on the other party. I am a fully disabled veteran disabled at 45 yr old and I can tell you the only other time I was talked down to this bad and given the run around was by the VA when I was trying to get my service connected rating! First I hired Jeff and things seemed great but at the time he was sick and I was just avoided for months. I would get responses from staff that he was out for the week at training, a conference, out sick etc.. this went on for months. Jeff went to court once and the other party had left for splitting their pants open lol and he stayed for hours not knowing what was going on. Another time he emailed me saying he was going to court on the wrong day and had to correct him. They finally admitted after 3-4 months that he was sick and his mom Janet took over. By the time they did this, it was too late to contest the ridiculous vague and overreaching discovery he had served on me. Janet NEVER met with me face to face after over 6 months of representation. She talked down to me, told me I was my husband's accountant whether I liked it or not, responded to every ridiculous response and had me running all over getting documents for them for months. She could not get my ex to cooperate in filing taxes or reimbursing me. She would not request discovery on the other party which was crucial because she said it would just upset the judge to have to look over so many papers. She told me at one time I was stomping my feet and acting like a spoiled brat (have this in writing) and when I stood up to her when I had enough, she threatened not to talk to me again until she got another check. (which was on the way from a distribution from mutual fund but was taking a LONG time jumping through hoops). She had me spend month tracking every dollar, copy of every check. even when I got a letter from the credit union stating that my ex was lying and he DID have access to account, she told me to go get them anyways. I am fully disabled military, two surgeries a year, she had no respect for that or my situation. I ended up representing myself and went to a two day trial with two full binders, I didn't get everything I want but I got to keep my house and got a lot more then they were wanting to get me. SAVE YOUR MONEY I ended up paying about $17000 and they didn't even get involved with mediation, trial, etc.. read more

I had a bad impression of this firm already from first contact when the young assistant I spoke with over the phone seemed highly bored and robotic as she took my details. Unfortunately I stayed and paid a large retainer to Kim Dawson who was dishonest about what she was going to provide for those services. She told me over the phone that the retainer would most likely cover my proceedings, but they were very quickly eaten up by being charged through the nose for every single communication we had, and we didn't even get to the heart of the matter. This attorney is not good at understanding the human/social side behind the legal issues, and she insisted on adding unnecessary legal procedures to my case that were time-consuming and above all retainer-consuming. read more
