The sea was angry that day my friends, I've always wanted to write that line. And it was Sunday last, and I know this because I still have sand tempests and sea spray nightmares. Needless to say the "hey let's stop to walk on the sand" was a miscalculation, one of the dogs ran, hightailing it behind a closed seasonal storage container in an attempt to avoid the pain of 40 MPH granularity to the snout. So once I bribed him with the last piece of $30.00 Rosemary Focchia from Schmitts Farm Stand (whose getting blown up on my next review, so tune back in) he jumped in, i battled the car door closed and we shoved off into town. Greenport is super sleepy in mid November, some shops are open, nobody was on the streets. I felt like Vincent Price in The Last Man on Earth and as we entered Greenport Fire thinking surf zombies were likely on our tail, I started tasting hot sauces, all of them. "Line 'em up and I'll put 'em down" until the searing sandblasting outer cheek pain melded with my now Schofield Unit mouth of fire causing ample pain, but I liked it so I had more. Heather (store owner and super mom) and I were having a good time talking hot sauce, I pointed out that i took part in some hot wings eating contests, one YELP sponsored, saying this between towel dabbing the sweat from my brow. Walking out with two bottles of the local Greenport hot sauce and some incense for the bathroom the next day, this store is a must see if your in town. They even had NFL on the big screen in the back, Giants were losing a d the Jets had a great day as they were on their Bye Week and couldn't embarrass themselves, barring the Sanchez situation. read more

This review is a long time coming. We've been visiting the store for a number of years now. We love Greenport Fire! It is definitely a "must" stop on our trips to Greenport. Ok, so I can't speak personally to the quality of the hot sauces since my husband is the aficionado and I am a weakling with spice, but they he vouches for their great hot sauces, and wide variety. They arrange the hot sauces by level of heat and the friendly staff is always happy to give you a taste if you want to try something. They also sell cigars and some spicy snacks. read more

Great business! We are major hot sauce fans, so we had to step in. They had a special going on: buy three and get one free. So we splurged and got the Slavic plum hot sauce, Rockin Rasta Jamaican coconut curry sauce, Scotch bonnet and ginger hot sauce, and habanero hot sauce. They let us both samplr anything we wanted and were friendly and welcoming. The range of flavors and spiciness that is offered is so much fun to try. We are loving the ones we bought! What a wonderful store! Hot sauces galore and cigars in a humidor! The staff is a delight, welcoming, friendly, and helpful! They have a large variety of the typical hot pepper item available in many such specialty store. The cigars are a bonus. The atmosphere is open and eclectic. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because tasting of the hot sauces is very limited at present. At other establishments one can taste almost every one available. So far this is knot possible here. However, they are anticipating getting a refrigeration unit. I hope that when we return I can upgrade the review! read more

They shipped it directly to our house 2 days later! (We live 90 minutes away) They must have used their own vehicle because the package was in a shopping bag with a nice "thank you" note. This is the best store in existence. My name is Rowan and I am not even a huge hot sauce fanatic. I mean, I love it but not completely obsessed. But that's not the point. The point is that this place has TURNED me into a hot sauce fanatic. There is a certain feeling of amazingness in the shop. It makes you feel like you are a rock star and when the hot sauce hits your tongue you ARE MICK JAGGER. I was in town because I was bored and this shop completed my day. This was a very cool experience, a store of nothing but regional brand hot sauces. The staff is very helpful and lets you try any sauce and compare and contrast before you purchase. My friend and I needed some cigars for a party that we were hosting later that night, so we popped into Greenport Fire to check out the selection. There were about seven shelves filled with a large variety of Dominican cigars, and we each chose a few. Depending on the size, the prices were in a range between $6-15. They were very potent and totally worth the price--I could only smoke about half of mine (got someone to finish it so it wouldn't be wasted, though!). The guy running the shop was super friendly and helpful. He told us all about the selection and helped my friend pick flavors she would like. In addition to cigars, the main body of the shop is set up like a jewelry store, with low glass cases filled with hot sauce. An underground vibe is clearly trying to be cultivated here, as the shop had very low lighting and was covered in punk rock bumper stickers (and other stickers of that ilk). read more

This is a really awesome shop with very knowledgeable and friendly staff! I was visiting my sister, who owns a house in Greenport, when she brought me to this shop. I explained that I was from out of town and not checking any bags, so if I were to purchase anything, it would need to be under 3 oz. They told me that they didn't have anything that small, but proceeded to give me samples of hot sauces that they thought I would enjoy. Greenport Fire is the place to go if you're out on the North Fork and want to check out a unique spot that's got a little bit of everything. I was in the area yesterday following the Strawberry Festival in Mattituck (as part of my birthday jubilation), and I heard about it through glowing recommendation. The shop is located on Main Street where there are boutiques, bars, ice cream and Italian ice places, and waterfront restaurants overlooking Shelter Island. So, great area to park your car a little further back and stroll through, ending down by the water. I came into Greenport Fire to try some of the hot sauces that I pulled up on their instagram page. The shop itself is awesome; floor to ceiling, its dressed up in vinyl records and band stickers, with a line of sauces beneath an illuminated sign proclaiming "Death Row"... hmm, are those are hot?? Haha (no, unfortunately I did not try them. Godspeed to those that do*). It doubles as a smoke shop, all put in fully stocked display cases that are crystal clean and easy to eye up and down. This visit was accompanied by a killer soundtrack playing overhead.. they had the Eagles, Sting, Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder, BB King, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel.. god, I was jammin the whole time I was there, lol. Everyone behind the counter was cool as hell and didn't mind me bustin a move here and there while browsing their merch, and there's a sweet golden lab named Molly that hangs out there too :) Good vibes all around* While I'm no hot sauce aficionado, I do enjoy good flavor without the BLINDING heat behind it, and just a touch of sweet, especially when making my "famous" cheese empanadas. Dale and Heather are the husband and wife team that run the joint, and their knowledge of hot sauce and helping me find what I was looking for went way beyond expectation. I overheard other more "experienced" shoppers being assisted, and Heather was able to point down the region of where the sauces came from, direct them towards sauces that had more chipotle, or tomatillo, or jalapeño, or "smoky" flavor... whatever they were asking for... and they had it A-L-L... WITH free tastings of everything on the shelf. Major plus! I see previous posters mentioning limited tastings - GO BACK! It's all out there now! I was able to take my time and found myself enamored with this gorgeous mild peach mango habanero that I know will be a huge hit. Super excited for this find! So for the smoke shop portion, if you're into cigars.. they carry the classics. I picked up some of my favorites - Blondies - of which I got 1 hand-rolled vanilla flavor, and 2 acid (1 modelo). I got them cut and setup with a pack of matches (finished 1 before even leaving the shop, lol). Come in with a brand or flavor you like, and they'll put some options out there with you. What else... spice infused liquers, incense, sage, vapes, loose-leaf tea, and coffee are other items that they carry. I didn't try them all, but that's another reason to return, I suppose? Haha If you're in the area, I'd definitely say stop by.. even if just to experience what the hell this place is about. It was a huge hit this past weekend for Father's Day, and they wrapped everything beautifully. Super helpful and extremely knowledgeable staff, good prices, an in-SANE variety of hot sauces with something there for everyone, and a fun casual atmosphere that will definitely have me coming back. All of this coming from someone that isn't into hot sauce like that is hilarious to me.. so take me up on this recommendation - Run, don't walk to Greenport Fire! I was in Fire this past weekend and it was a great experience. The owner was very nice and very helpful. I tried a few hot sauces and purchased a crab sauce salsa/dip and Foo Foo Mama Choo Smokin Ed's Carolina Reaper Sauce. The crab salsa was meh...the hot sauce is FIRE! with a nice taste.
