I like this place for all the different vinegars. They are very high quality and I love the different flavors. They have good snacks as well, like the truffle oil popcorn, which is quite strong - eat in small quantities! You can actually bring your bottles back and have them refilled so you don't have to purchase new ones each time. I really appreciate this aspect. "Oh hello?" Was all we got. I wondered if I interrupted the women tapping away on a laptop. Didn't even help us as we entered the store ...waited still no help . We had to eventually just walk out since this is a business we're you have to actually taste an try the product before you purchase. I've been to this store a few times when traveling in the area and every time it's been a great experience. The people in the store are very knowledgeable about their offerings and made some great suggestions that we used that night for dinner. The Italian Herb dipping oil, a fresh bread and pasta was a terrific meal. We were able to taste several samples until we found the one we liked best. Why oh why is the owner of this store so hostile? Lady, it doesn't cost a dime to smile at the customers who buy your high quality but limited and high priced merchandise. Stop sulking or find another line of business. I spent $35 on a small bottle of vinegar and a jar of salsa. So at least be gracious when you hand me my bag. To Rita - you might look at some of the other reviews which also had the same comment about unfriendly staff. The person working there (an older woman) pushed my bag at me. I came to Yelp to see if my bad experience the other week was a one-off or if other people have run into the same issue. Clearly my experience is common... what astounds me that even after all the negative reviews across multiple platforms regarding customer service... nothing seems to have improved. Stopped by in December and felt like I was interrupting and not welcome. No offer to help, short and curt answers to my questions, but the woman working there was energetic enough to reprimanded someone else picking up a product to look at (?). The other customer turned beat red, it was all around just an uncomfortable place to be. The positive reviews sound completely alien to my experience... perhaps those people lucked out and the woman everyone refers to wasn't there. Regardless, lessons aren't being learned regarding how to treat people, and I can't support a small business that won't support the people who try to shop there. read more

I, too, experienced some curt behavior from the sales associate over the holiday weekend. No one but my husband and I were in the store. It was my second time there and I wanted to introduce my husband to this gem of a store. However, the sales associate was so curt that my husband walked out. I ended up buying some oils but felt like I was putting the associate out for wanting a product. Sad to have to reinforce these reviews about poor service. read more

In response to a recent comment about a "hostile" attitude from one of the staff who served a lady. Do not sample or shop in the Greenport store!!! It is a health hazard and they should have a health code violation against them. I was appalled and shocked when the woman who worked there told me that I took too much of a sample (which is in a very small white cup) and she needed to put it back in the bottle after I used it!!!! It is disgraceful that would jeopardize their customer's health in order to save a buck and they should be ashamed of themselves. The Greenport store is unsanitary and I believe should be closed permanently. I would give them 0 stars if that was an option. To answer the comment from Rita W. As I previously stated clearly and concisely, the sample of oil was poured into the bottle AFTER I used it. First, you were not there to witness it. Second, if you were the woman that was in store then SHAME ON YOU as you looked right at me when I dipped the piece of bread in the oil and ate it. Thereafter, the same woman approached me which was my very first encounter with any representative of the store. The said woman stated I poured too much, demanded I give her the cup and the oil was placed back in the bottle AFTER I used it. Probably the worst customer service I've experienced in a store. The woman working the cash register with short brown hair was incredibly rude and condescending when asked the most simple questions. She basically tossed two books at me when I asked about the recipes in them saying she didn't know and to look myself. She gave my mother a horrible stare down when she was taking a free magazine at the door while I was purchasing something. Will never return and would return the product if I lived closer just on customer service alone leaving a bad taste in my mouth. read more

As other reviews, loved this store for it's product (& spent hundreds of dollars each time), but maybe the shop manager/owner (an older woman with short brunette hair), is awful rude & menacing awkward to say the least. You automatically sense her stance breathing down your neck as soon as you touch anything. Oh and, don't take any more than just 1 of their tasting cups, especially the little kernel of their extremely "stale" popcorn left in the open. On my first visit to the store a while ago I encountered the same rude, unfriendly, condescending store clerk that others have described on here. I reluctantly went back yesterday (Sunday of Labor Day weekend) because I like the products that they sell. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a different friendly, pleasant woman working at the store who actually liked talking with and taking care of customers! Thus, I averaged out rating to a three - the first being a zero, and the second a five. It's a nice store and product line. If they keep the great sales people in the front and take the ones who aren't good at that off the front line, they will have a great place. read more

So, there's a narrative to follow here. It's a good product, but the vibe is decidedly unwelcoming and in some cases specifically rude. We used to be fairly frequent customers at the Main St location, but the unpleasant vibe (and some nonsense about returning bottles) was too incessant and we took our business elsewhere. Today, we ventured in the new location, to give it another try. Nope. You can feel the disdain and contempt for the customers the moment you enter; a friend who had no prior knowledge commented immediately upon leaving, unprompted. No one forces someone to open a business; if you're in retail, you deal with people--that's the drill. So, to the owner: get used to customers--frail imperfect customers--or get out of the business. read more

I've been a customer of Vines and Branches for many years and am always blown away by their products and service. I've sent many baskets all over the country and they are always a huge hit! The customer service is awful, rude and owner lacks professionalism. I am a repeat customer. Have purchased many different vinegars and oils. Walked into the store to return the bottles. The sales help/ owner wouldn't take the bottles back. Now the label states to clean bottles. They would not take them back bc they were not cleaned in a dishwasher which isn't stated. After I drove a long distance on a holiday weekend, taking me a long time to get here as well as having foot surgery don't you think it would be nice to say okay we will take them back. Vines and Branches should clearly state on the label that the bottles MUST be cleaned by dishwasher. I was going to purchase many bottles of vinegar, but just walked out instead. This is a good way to lose customers!!! I was outraged by the owner and in no way used profanity. My husband also heard the entire conversation. The owner also didn't want to listen to me that I just had foot surgery. After driving this far out on the island it wasn't possible to bring the bottles home to rewash in the dishwasher. The Crushed Olive offers better products and service. read more

I was so excited to purchase a few different olive oils from Vines and Branches but, unfortunately, the customer service also turned me away before I could do so. As my boyfriend and I began to sample one we were intrigued by, the woman at the register suddenly snapped at us saying, "Um....have you ever been here before...?" in what was possibly the rudest tone of voice that anyone in a store has spoken to us before. She then proceeded with this voice and instructed us on how they expect customers to sample the oils, which happened to be precisely what we were doing (using the cups & taking from the sample bottles, etc...it's the typical olive oil setup so it would be difficult to butcher the correct way to sample). May I add that she was in the middle of ringing up other customers so then we had about four other adults staring at us sympathetically. Talk about unnecessary. We immediately left the store without trying anything. Hopefully others have a better experience because there were many items that sounded delicious. read more

decent product, lousy customer service. was a long time customer. when the Southampton store was closed a Tuesday after Memorial day weekend, I called in my order, informed who I was, placed a $150 order and asked if they can waive the shipping charge. they refused. when the order wasn't fulfilled properly, I called and they told me, if I wanted to return it, I need to pay for shipping back to the store and shipping again to send the corrected items. both times spoke to the owner. As I stated above, product is good but customer appreciation is Null. might be the reason why, two stores closed and the one remaining one, is much smaller than original. read more
