It's a typical luncheonette but in Palm Beach so has lots of history and nostalgia. The staff couldn't have been nicer. I had a tuna melt on rye and an egg cream. Delicious! Came there this morning saw a special for waffles and bacon for $15.95 on the special board. Ordered it at the counter. The young waitress told me oh oops that was from yesterday. She then jumped on a stool and hurried to erase. I then asked so how much are waffles and bacon? She replied $22. I told her she was rude and left. I walked in and instantly had a childhood flashback. Didn't knw the counter service still existed. This was such a treat. We were greeted by the kindest, sweetest waitress. Took our orders with a smile and even made suggestions. While we waited for the order to be ready, we walked around the store. It was like something right out of Andy Griffith, Nostalgic. This is like theatre. Adequate free street parking nearby if you are lucky. Extremely friendly if chaotic servers. We had five of them each promised to bring a coffee and silverware until after the breakfast arrived they said oh you need silverware. Pretty good fry up. Five rashers of bacon home fries and two eggs for about $20. The location looks like it did in 1960. Down to the chairs and decor. About as good a place for a budget bite on Palm Beach as you'll get. Coffee was good and piping hot. Waitresses were whispering and moaning behind the corner, but I feel like that's par for the course with diners. There's always something going on. It adds to the experience- a side show. You have to take it with a grain of salt. This isn't The Breakers or Cafe Boulud, right? Were you expecting "pinkies up"? Luckily, we snagged counter stools closer to the windows away from the hot flat top & toasters. It looked hot down there. Value = For two Palm Beach breakfasts, with coffees. $33.00 before tax & tip. Why would you do Sunday brunch up the street at The Breakers where you'll drop this month's mortgage payment for two hours of eating copious amounts of delicious food, when you can stay in your Birkenstocks, green shorts, oxford shirt and throw a sweater over your shoulders and take in the "experience" at Green's instead? Ok, ok, two vastly different things, but breakfast or lunch at Green's is an experience in itself and one that everyone should experience at least once. So let's drop off our prescription for our cholesterol medication and dig in while we wait for it to be filled. Let's talk atmosphere. Well, there isn't much. It's an old school lunch counter with a few tables, some uncomfortable stools, and questionable cleanliness where the customers can be as sassy as the help. Most of the food is cooked on the grill out in the open where you can see just how much butter, oil, and other assorted unhealthy ingredients are getting ready to be placed in front of you. Pay no attention to that, this isn't spa food. Sandwiches, salads, hamburgers, etc. are the stars here at lunchtime, while eggs, pancakes, and plenty of bacon make up the choices for breakfast. Nothing here is gourmet, far from it, but you're not here for that .... remember? You're here for that trip back in time where drugstores were the place to go for breakfast and lunch, and Green's proves it still has what it takes to pack 'em in and keep 'em comin' back for more. Everything in Palm Beach comes with two things: 1) a high price tag, and 2) excellent people watching, and Green's is no exception. You'll never know who you'll see belly up to the counter, grab a copy of the Shiny Sheet and order an egg cream. "That can't be him, is it?" "OMG, there's no way that's her nephew!" "Oh, she found a new "walker," I hope she treats this one better." "Oh! Him? He tells everyone that's his "nurse."" The staff knows the regulars and what they order, kinda like Cheers, but there's no beer. If there was, Budweiser would be $35 a bottle. Soda and iced tea are served in huge, old school styrofoam cups, and they'll gladly give you a refill when it's time to hop in the Rolls and go home. Having been here many, many times (to the chagrin of my cardiologist), it's always a favorite spot and a must to take those visiting from out of town. There are not many places like this that exist anymore, unfortunately, so it's a gem in its own right. When it's finally time to leave, pay no attention to what you just paid for a cheeseburger and fries... Grab the handwritten check your server slipped in front of you and take it to the cashier. If you're paying by credit card, you'll add in the tip, be given that back in cash, you'll hear the tax man groan, and then give that money to your server. Don't forget to grab a snack for the road either, because it's the only place where a Hershey's bar costs as much as last month's alimony payment. But you've gone this far, so what's a few dollars more? You only live once! I always say, "one simply does not go to Green's... you experience it." So put it on your list. read more

Green's is a very old school lunch counter, in a drug store. It's the kind of Jurassic cuisine moment that attracts dinosaurs from around Palm Beach island. Sitting at the counter is fun. The wait staff is top form. If only the food was really good, this would be a great throwback spot. It's a solid three. Won't thrill ya, won't kill ya. Paying and tipping is downright weird. As a kid growing up in miami there were tons of pharmacies with an attached soda fountain/luncheonette restaurant. Sadly they are all are gone. But you can still come here to palm beach to re live the experience. From the black and white checkerboard flooring to the lunch counter to the menu This is a total time warp originally opened in 1938 across the street from the current spot. this place oozes authenticity and 50's ambiance. The menu is a time warp too. i had an excellent patty melt which is not something you see on the menu any more (for the non initiated that's a burger with cheese and grilled onions between griddled bread, rye in this case) I had it with large tasty and non greasy onion rings. The food and service are exactly what you'd expect from a mediocre diner. The place has that lived in feel. That said, there is bit of charm here. This is kind of a hard thing to rate because the vibe alone is worth five stars and the service is so kind, but the food, however, is absolutely disgusting, and the prices are weird (diner coffee should not be $5!). I popped in on a rainy Labor Day morning for a small breakfast and cup of coffee, and I loved the old school vibe of this place. It takes me back to the Woolworth's counter as a very small child. The place was not very crowded, and the service was chill and laid back. I ordered a cheese omelet with grits and an English muffin. It seems pretty hard to screw that up. Well, unfortunately, (and vegetarians take note!) I didn't realize they cook their eggs in bacon grease or lard - or at least it sure tastes like it. The omelet was practically inedible because every bite tasted of bacon grease, something I personally find gross. I know bacon is popular, but I hate it and I don't want to taste it, especially if I didn't order it. The grits were fine with the right amount of seasoning, and it is basically impossible to screw up an English muffin. But in the end, I couldn't finish even half of the omelet. I came out $15 poorer for the experience, in part because that of crazy priced diner coffee. But it's all for the experience, I suppose. read more

Cool old pharmacy with both some interesting merchandise (my wife found a great beach hat from Panama Jack) as well as a great breakfast and lunch restaurant. Waitresses were great like your grand mom. Attentive and nice. The menu is surprisingly full. Any option from one egg, and any other breakfast you might want... to all sorts of burgers and sandwiches, even fish and chips. She had pancakes while I had a mushroom burger. All was good. The burger was a half pound cooked to order. It was very juicy. No complaints from either of us. We picked some snacks and a bottle of wine for tonight watching TV. The food is good, but really exactly what you'd expect--really solid eggs, hash browns, french toast, etc. And of course, bottomless refills for your coffee. But the real fun is that this is a surprisingly go-to spot for business meetings! You can impress your clients by taking them to where JFK ate instead of the usual hoity Palm Beach establishments. It gets 5 stars from me for the history alone! Green's Pharmacy Luncheonette is an old fashioned lunch counter in a pharmacy. Where can you even find that anymore? I thought Walgreen's had pretty much put all of the pharmacy's out of business but no, there is one remaining in Palm Beach that looks like it did the day Jackie O walked in the door. Green's has been in business since 1938. JFK used to come in for milkshakes and Frank Sinatra would visit when he was in town. Rod Stewart and Jimmy Buffet have been known to pop in. Most of Green's customers however are the residents of the area. In addition to the lunch counter there is an independently owned pharmacy. Green's has been in business since 1938 when brothers Murray and Robert "Bob" Green brought to Palm Beach the same kind of soda fountain/pharmacy that they had owned in Hampton Bays, Long Island, before a 1930s hurricane destroyed it. The business became a Palm Beach staple and the Kennedy's would visit for breakfast after church across the street when they were at their north end estate. Late former Florida Gov. Claude KirkIn announced his candidacy at Green's in 1967 and a waitress got married in the luncheonette in 1981. In 1986 Green's was bought by a chain but it reverted to private ownership in 1993. We sat at the long formica counter on the bar stools for lunch. Although the place looks nostalgic, the prices are very 2019 Palm Beach. A shake will set set you back $7. I had an iced tea and turkey melt. It was $20 for the same kind of lunch I could have easily made at home down to the potato chips from a bag and a side of bread and butter pickles. This place was founded in 1938. It was originally located a few blocks away, but moved to its current location in the '50s when the diner/luncheonette part was expanded. It celebrated its 80th birthday last year. The reason to visit is because it has history -- the Kennedys used to come here to eat and Jackie used to buy sand toys here for the kids. Other famous residents and visitors on the island have passed through as well. But that being said, without knowing its background, it would just be a slightly worn diner in a corner of a convenience type store. Albeit in Palm Beach. With Palm Beach prices. We came in to visit to check it off our list of bookmarks. We didn't realize they operate with shorter summer hours now. So we made it just a half hour before closing. I'd already eaten lunch, so I was looking for a dessert. Per the menu, the options are mainly ice cream based. I chose a chocolate egg cream. Unfortunately, they don't have a real old fashioned soda foundation here which I was hoping they did. So they just added some club soda to some chocolate syrup for me. I got the milk on the side. It was okay. My girlfriend ordered a turkey melt sandwich. It came with potato chips out of big bag. It looked good but nothing exciting. What did look appealing were the onion rings one of the staff was preparing and also a big burger that they were eating. The rest of the place is a combo store and pharmacy. We were able to easily grab a seat as they weren't too busy. I ordered a breakfast platter which came out after another table that had come and ordered after us got their food, so that was a little weird. Food was decent though.
