The Greenwich Pier was of our stops on the Uber boat which hosts the Greenwich Market, which includes an array of foods and retail outlets in a small old village type setting. We ate lunch and had a cold beer from the Old Brewery then attended a tour of the Cutty Sark, which is a huge replica ship from the 1800s. They even had a ferris wheel for the kiddies. Fun time in the market but you definitely need an entire day to get the full effect. read more

Greenwich Market is a cute, lovely market that packs a lot into a relatively small space. If you happen to be on one of the City Cruise boats, this is just a few minutes walk from the pier and a great place to check out. Much of the market is covered over, and it's smaller than Borough or Spitalfields but it's also easier to navigate. Vendors are a mix of tasty food stalls, handmade goods and flea market/vintage stuff. Prices in general were lower than most of the more central London markets. There's also a pub in one of the corners (and many more nearby). Lining the market are cute stores selling candy, souvenirs etc. I couldn't pass up fresh & delicious samosas from a very friendly stall holder and the rest of my group spread out to find their tasty treats. I also found an amazing souvenir - a China goblet (?) or sorts commemorating Prince William's birth with a great photo of Chuck & Di - just £10, in perfect condition. Stopped by here while at Greenwich and it was a pretty great find. The front of the market carries a lot of speciality shops while the back carries all the food. The sides are lined with a lot of little shops. 1. Pizza Calzone - Absolutely delicious, honestly way better than anything you can get from the states. The star is really the crust because of its slightly crispy texture. However a lot of the ingredients ends up at the bottom of the calzone so it's not very proportional in flavor. I do love the cheese pull action though. 2. Hot Dog - Okay dish. It was a bit too meaty for me. Overall a pretty good experience here at Greenwich Market. Definitely recommend if you are in the area but I don't think it's a must for London. read more

The holy grail of unconventional souvenir shopping! No matter your interests, do not visit London without stopping by here. Greenwich was one of the bookend stops of the City Cruise boat tour along the Thames. The Market is a short 5-minute or so walk from the pier. It's a relatively small marketplace with a ton of wonderful stands and shops selling everything from art and antiques to jewelry and semi-precious gemstones to clothing and cuisines from a variety of countries. I saw stands selling Brazilian churros, "Asian" chicken wings and Chinese food, Middle Eastern dosas, 'Southern pork', East Indian street food, a couple of Italian stands, a couple more selling baked goods and one selling a delicious take on fish and chips ("Da Fish Ting" cod fritters are not to be missed!) There are also a few brick and mortar shops selling accessories, paintings and posters, shoes, housewares, beautiful decorative creations made of delicate colorful paper, and my personal favorite, sweet creamy delicious fresh made fudge. I thought I'd only spend a few minutes here, but there was just so much to see, do, and eat in this little tiny space. I'm also not into antiques, but I was able to find a crystal whiskey decanter and an antique 25-piece bone china tea set for way less than I'm willing to confess to. It was an absolute steal! Forget all of the junk that the 'traditional' souvenir shops are selling... this is the place to go if you want to bring back a truly unique piece of London. read more

I came to Greenwich Market for some food, but I expected it to be a lot larger. Though there wasn't as many choices as Borough Market or Camden Market, I still thought it was pretty cool. It wasn't crammed with people, so that was nice. I got the Panz Margherita from Panzerotto, and a 6-inch from The Sausage. Panz Margherita- Ultimately, this is a fried Calzone. Though it only had cheese and Margherita sauce, it was delicious! The dough was chewy and crispy, probably one of the best fried doughs I ever had. The cheese was melty and the tomato flavor came through. I loved this. The Sausage- Honestly, this was similar to an American hot dog, it didn't surprise me much. However, I usually dislike pickles, but pickles on hot dogs are now my favorite. The sauces were pretty good and was flavorful. Overall, I would come here again. That calzone!!! read more

I ended up in Greenwich on a whim and this was a short walk from the boat dock. I was immediately drawn in by the number of vendors. We have embarrasingly terrible farmers markets where I'm from, so this was very impressive. There were a bunch of interesting food vendors, which I made my way through. It turns out I didnt even see all of the good vendors, as there were more booths outside that I happened to miss. The for sale vendors seems to be a mix of etsy like booths. I did see a few cute items here and there but the prices were a bit ridiculous. Note: some vendors are cash only, so make sure you visit the machines before getting here. As far as restrooms are concerned, I don't remember seeing any of those either. read more

09/12/17 Not far from Greenwich pier or the Maritime Museum is this swap meet. Some of the items are secondhand and some are new. What a plethora of wonderful items to look at and purchase. from food, to clothing, knick knacks and more. There was a variety of global foods to be had. If you haven't been to Greenwich market for lunch then I highly recommend it. Firstly it's good value as you're not paying extortionate prices for service charge or food presentation and secondly its in a beautiful area itself next to Cutty Sark so it gives you plenty to do and see after eating and shopping in the market. The best thing about it is that's it is indoors too with its glass ceiling allowing natural light to pass through giving the place a lovely outdoor feel but without the worry of rain or windy conditions. So here is my review on what we ate: EAT: Hot flavours It's a Caribbean stall selling the usual jerk chicken and variety of curries. The portion are generous as they come filled to the rim of the box served with rice, salad and homemade coleslaw. The curries have been stewing for hours ahead of time for the flavours to release and for the meat and vegetables to soften before being cooled and put into portable containers, brought to the stall and reheated. Order the mango chicken curry if they have it. There was so much flavour from all ends of the spectrum, sweetness from the mango and savoury from all the different herbs and spices. It's very mild for those worried about spice. The chicken was beautifully tender after being stewed for hours in the fragrant curry. Lovely with rice and coleslaw added that creaminess to it to bring it all together. AVOID: Pimp my ramen We were so excited to finally get our hands on our first ramen burger. Sadly it wasn't as awesome as we thought it would be. Maybe we should have gone for the Filipino pulled pork which looked more flavoursome then the cheap bland burger patty we ordered. We couldn't taste any beef! The ramen patty was so flavourless too. They could have really chose a better brand of ramen that maybe had better MSG seasoning to cook it in? The cheese was still cold and not melted, egg was pre cooked so was cold as well. Disappointing and would have rather spend my money elsewhere. MAYBE EAT: Mammia Mia The problem with pre made risotto balls is that the outer layer will just keep getting crispier and crispier and the inside thicker and denser as it dries out outside. That was one of the slight problems here but it was still pretty good if you put that aside. We ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese risotto ball. It sure was crispy on the outside and the rice inside was still nice and sticky filled with stretchy melted mozzarella. It lacked depth and flavour though as the Bolognese tasted very generic and one noted. Could have done with more herbs and seasoning but still had a nice bite. AVOID: The Andes Empanadas We ordered the vegetable empanadas and regretted it immediately. It was overcooked creating a casing that was too dry and dense. It was more crunchy than crisp. It was a shame as the filling was tasty, filled with mozzarella and tomatoes. AVOID: Mediterranean Quiche stall We ordered a chicken and mushroom samosa from this stall but it was probably the most disappointing food of the day. The filo pastry didn't work being too thick and dry and the filling wasn't generous enough to provide moisture making it very hard to eat without a drink. It was all very bland inside, tasting like basic supermarket pie filling. EAT: Brazillian churros These churros were definitely a winner. They were freshly made, thick, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. It is a lot more dense but only probably to hold the caramel creme or chocolate sauce or both if you like. As much as I love the gimmick of filling the inside of the churro with half chocolate and half caramel creme I do wish I could dip my churro with more of the delicious sauces. Too morish! EAT: Planet pancake Who would have thought simple mini pancakes drizzled with salted caramel and topped with flake pieces can taste so good! The pancakes are freshly made in front of you and are incredibly fluffy and spongy. You can choose any toppings you like from the selection to make it your own. So good! EAT: Coopie Coco Now if you you see this stall and they're selling something called "fresh coconut drops" then buy a piece! Small pieces of coconut spiced heavily with sugar, ginger and cinnamon. It had an addictive bite to it being crunchy and chewy, sweet with strong taste of both coconut and ginger. Favourite sweet dish of the day. DRINK: Greenwich Flavoured Coffee We chose coffee brewed with amaretto flavoured coffee beans and cinnamon coffee beans and it was incredibly good. I was quite skeptical at first if the flavoured coffee tasted like they smelt and they did. Of course the flavour was much more subtle but the coffee was smooth and rich with a lovely aftertaste too. On this trip I found the sweet dishes really surpass the savouries. We did miss a few stalls like the grilled cheese, Portuguese stews and fresh pasta so we might have been unlucky. But with the range of delicious sweet treats I'm glad to have saved an appetite to enjoy them all. read more

I would avoid this place on the weekends as it can be bumper-to-bumper with humans of all stripes vying for a spot in front of the stall you'd like to visit. I do, however, recommend a trip down on one of the weekdays (closed Mondays) to peruse the antiques, ceramic ware from Jerusalem, vegan cupcakes a la Brixton, and order a decent cup of joe from the local coffee cart without hordes of folk swarming around you. I was happy to find out different days of the week this market offers specific stalls aimed at food, crafts, bits and bobs. Loving crafts the most, I selected my day of the week and headed out. Do not arrive too early on a weekDAY, otherwise you might wait before the vendors are set up. Nice covered area to shop in the market with outlining shops to pop in and out. Greenwich Market is a huge highlight of Greenwich with an abundance of different food stalls and of course some homemade or repurposed Knicks and knacks. My favourite food stalls were the Brazilian Churros, Ruby Tuesdays gluten free baked goods (for when I had a celiac family member with me), the amazing dumpling place that is usually situated across from the churros (sorry can't remember the name) but they do amazingly good tempura prawns on a stick, pot stickers and pork dumplings that are as good as any other Chinese, the pancake place that makes the dutch poffertjes (wow!) and one stall I adore is when the lovely cheesemongers from Godminster would have their pop up cheese stall. Their chutneys are so good! During the week there is only a handful of stalls here so if you want the full experience be sure to come on a weekend, although be warned it is always packed! Although the lines for food look long they actually move very quickly so don't let that put you off. I have so many cool souvenirs or gifts I have bought for people from here. The most loved is probably the customised London Meantime beer bottle wall clock I gave my dad. Great local market! read more

One of my favourite markets in London! Whether you're coming from the Greenwich Foot Tunnel (SO cool, by the way), or training in from the DLR (which is always great to ride for fun), you'll glad you made the trek out. The market is pretty cramped and very crowded, but it's just buckets of fun to explore. Most of the vendors sell great, interesting trinkets and gifts, even home goods. The food selection is generally great value for money and I always find it so hard to make a choice from all the delicious dishes! Some of my favourites so far have been: - Teriyaki-ya: try the pumpkin croquette, the sea bass bento, and hubs recommends the fried chicken and the chicken katsu curry - Block B's: delicious falafel that's full of vegetables and wonderfully moist falafels. A nice bonus is that after you've experienced this wonderful little market, you can head on to the beautiful spots of Greenwich like Greenwich Park, the conservatory, or catch a movie at the quaint Greenwich Picturehouse. So again, a trip well worth the trip eastward! read more

Ever been to the main section of Spittlefields market? You know how there are artisan goods that by and large seem the same stall after stall after stall? Greenwich market is pretty much the same. It's not that I've lost that loving feeling for markets, but it's that I have the sneaking suspicion that I've seen some of those market goods before. Greenwich market was recommended to me as a good place for vintage junk, one of my secret, or not so secret loves. I was thus disappointed to find Greenwich was much like every other market and street fair stands you see. Of course there were some unique stalls, but most seems cut and dry market craft. It might take some witch craft and Kraft macaroni and cheese to lend some spice to Greenwich. This is not to say that the market is bad, just that it's not spectacular. There was, however, a nice selection of organic foods for sale and for grazing. An interesting lotion lady too. She was not only composed of creamy paraffin, petroleum jelly and water, but she also sold all natural hydrating products. I'm not sure if the antiques market about 3 blocks away has anything to do with Greenwich market, the official market, but if it does, I'd up this rating a star. If not, it remains and standard market fare of 3 baked to golden brown stars.. read more

I had been looking forward to returning to Greenwich Market after an absence of about seven years. When I last went I had found plenty to turn my head. Since then, I have discovered small individual markets tucked behind streets, and large ones like Spitalfields. So I found Greenwich Market to be a little bit smaller than I was hoping for, and it did not have the range or variety that I have come to expect from other markets. Still, there is plenty to recommend it. As well as stalls selling the typical arts and crafts, there were a few selling military regalia and army and navy goods. I guess this is a nod to Greenwich's rich past of seafaring and army bases. I also found a stall selling old cameras - some dating back to the 19th Century. My dad found a stall selling old prints of film posters. A couple of deals and a bit of haggling later, he came away happily with some good quality prints. After scouring the stalls, I turned my attention to the food. While there are not a large amount of food stalls, they are well represented - Turkish, Japanese, Mexican, Argentinian. I had a spicy open chicken hot sandwich from the Argentinian stand which was a perfectly seasoned, huge portioned feast - all for £4.50. My dad had a hot sandwich from the Hog Roast stand. The pork here is farmed from Essex - all free range. The owner also sold large pork pies. My dad declared his sandwich to be one of the tastiest that he has had in a long time - the meat was succulent, and he was very pleased with the extra bit of crackling slipped in. Greenwich Market is a perfect size if you get over whelmed by the sprawling qualities of Spitalfields. Its definitely worth a peek. read more

Getting to Greenwich is an experience in itself. Taking the boat ride from Westminster and cruising the Thames to get access to the attractive and historic building on either sides of the bank is wise. Its about a 20 minute cruise to Greenwich and you get humoured with cockney jargons and intelligence. At the market which is thankfully indoors, various handmade goods from around the world are sold under good prices. Mostly called boutique stalls they have art work, wood work, leather goods, food, textiles, furniture, accessories and much more. The uniqueness is that this is not retail, so one off presents for Christmas can be bought this season. During the festive season they are open everyday from the 10-24th Dec, 10am-5.30pm and you can savour some food while shopping. read more

My boyfriend and I are from the US and instead of touring at the tourist spot in London, we decided to live like a local for a day. Going to a market makes it official! We stayed in Marriott by Canary Wharf and yelped the closest Market around. This happened to be 2 miles away from the hotel so we decided to walk there. And omg, it's the farthest walk I've ever done. We went through a port to an underground tunnel, and a park with another port. But we got there and right away we found spots to look for souvenirs for back home. There so many food spots to choose from and lots of things you can buy. I don't remember the spots we bought food from but we got empanada made in Portugal, I think some meatball made in Italy, fresh oysters, another Portuguese food, short ribs, and ramen burger. We had food session! And by far the most unforgettable one we ate was the Filipino Ramen Burger. The chef was also Filipino and very welcoming. He noticed right away we were kababayan. My boyfriend and I both agreed that if we live nearby we'd be 50 lbs heavier from eating that all day everyday. I'm just glad that I even tasted a food so good. When I think of ramen burger, I would think that the Ramen bun is crispy and not cooked at all. And that it would fall apart the moment you eat it and would taste bland. But nope, it was opposite everything. The bun was put together and soft enough to eat like a regular bread. The "Filipino sauce" was good, I couldn't guess what's in it. The pulled pork was so tender. Everything blended together and it works! The end of it all we had a beer and decided to take uber back to the hotel. Such a good day! read more

I haven't actually found anything here in years that made me part with my money but I still like squeezing in every now and again. Sometimes the stalls change position and there are lots of eateries surrounding the market itself. Don't forget, this is historic Greenwich so much to see in the area. read more

I love Greenwich market. Accessible by both the river Thames and road (although I wouldn't suggest trying to park a car nearby) it is, in my opinion, the jewel in Greenwich's crown. Yes, within Greenwich there is the Royal observatory, Greenwich park, the National Maritime museum, Cutty Sark, Trinity College, the Queens House... Many such places, but for me, my favourite place in Greenwich is the market. Small but perfectly formed, Greenwich market contains many stalls of varying foods, art, antiques, jewellery, every form of clothing, books, furniture... Many many more things available. With independent boutiques lining two sides of this rectangular indoor marketplace, you'll want to see everything on offer and the layout assists in this. Quite simply, there is a central passageway and an aisle on each side with the stalls themselves practically forming a grid making it straightforward and convenient to weave your way along, able to browse everything and feeling confident that you haven't missed anything. Also, there are two pubs in opposing corners that back on to the market. Great for gift buying as well as finding nice things for yourself and equally as pleasing when one gets hungry. From Sushi to burgers to fairy cakes. Not many markets have two separate stalls that can offer you different styles of goat curry either but Greenwich usually does - and they're both delightful. The best days to visit are Fridays (largely antiques) and Saturdays (everything but antiques) and it will be busy and bustling but the market is open on some other days too albeit reduced in size. This is one of my favourite markets in the greater London area. The first time I was here was in 2009 and was fascinated by the wonderful array of handmade craft. I bought quite a large number of unique gifts for friends and family back at home, and also a leather jacket for myself. To this day, I still thank my local friends for having introduced me to this market, given that this would not have been on the radar had it not been for them. Now, as we are well in to 2014, this market remains to be my favourite - and now mostly thanks to the wonderful and ultra delicious ethnic food available. Or, if you prefer just get their ready made coffee on the spot too. Although Saturday is the busiest, I think they have the best stalls for a variety of foods (what to choose!). Thank Japanese, Korean, Indian, Portugese, Italian, American, and so and on and on. Get out at the Cutty Sark station, walk around the pier, the university, and then stop by the market. Hahaha, I was clicking to write this review and had started it in my head already, and it was going to go, "Best market in London, hands down." So yes, ditto that remark. And hey, I've been to almost all of them! I loved Greenwich because it was of an easily manageable size but still large enough to occupy half of a day. I also loved it because it had an excellent mixture of vendors. I'd say there are about 10 food vendors (holy crap, freshly made churros filled with caramel and chocolate), a handful of antique/vintage vendors, and then an impressive combination of handmade things, from frames to hair clips to art to, of course, jewelry (but not too much, and not all beads). I saw THREE things at this market that I'd never seen before. !!! And not a single vendor with junk or obviously resale stuff. The permanent stores surrounding the market (both inside and on nearby streets) are also pretty cute, and I was a big fan of the clothes stores, which were in my price range (read: cheap) but not junky and hip but not too high street-ish. I'd also recommend this market (to locals and visitors) because it's, of course, close to London, but somehow far enough away that it feels almost like a day trip. Take the RiverBus (not cruise) for £4 on your Oyster and add in a scenic ride there. Oh! And their visitor center is actually useful! They have four little maps of suggested walking tours around the area, along with a huge selection of general London & attraction maps, brochures, ect. I'd recommend this stop first because truthfully, if you're not entire sure where you're going, the market would be easy to miss. It's essentially the inner portion of a city block and has entrances in the middle of the streets of that block. Surely, though, anyone could point you in the right direction. read more
